Latest IELTS questions from Canada – November 2025 (General Training)
A big shout out to J.S. for kindly sharing the Writing questions he remembered from his latest IELTS exam in Canada:
IELTS Writing Test – General Training
Writing task 1 (a letter)
You have recently enrolled in a training course and would like to tell your friend about it. Write a letter to your friend. In your letter:
– explain what the course is about
– give details about when and where it will take place
– describe why you decided to take this course.
Write at least 150 words. You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Writing task 2 (an essay)
Many people nowadays take photos of their daily experiences and share them on social media. Do you think this is a positive or negative development?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Part 1 (Interview)
– Do you often stay up late at night?
– What are some reasons you stay up late?
– How do you usually feel the next day if you go to bed late?
– Do you think staying up late affects your productivity?
– Do you prefer working or studying at night or in the morning?
– Did you also stay up late when you were younger?
– What activities usually keep you awake at night?
– How important do you think sleep is for your daily routine?
Part 2 (Cue Card)
Describe an object that you found beautiful. You should say:
– what the object was
– where and when you saw it
– what it looked like
and explain why you found it beautiful.
Part 3 (Discussion)
– Why do people create beautiful things?
– What makes something beautiful to one person but not to another?
– Do you think people appreciate beauty more now than in the past?
– How does culture influence what people consider beautiful?
– Do you think people care too much about appearance and beauty today?
– Is creating beautiful things more important than creating useful things?

– Do people in your hometown often wear jewellery?
– Do you like wearing jewellery?
– What kind of jewellery do you usually wear?
– Do you think jewellery is a good gift for others?
– Have you ever bought jewellery for someone else?
Part 2 (Cue Card)
Describe a meal you tried for the first time. You should say:
– what the meal was
– when and where you had it
– who you were with
and explain how you felt when you tried it for the first time.
Part 3 (Discussion)
– How have people’s eating habits changed over time?
– Why do some people enjoy cooking while others do not?
– Do you think it’s important for children to learn how to cook?
– How does technology affect the way people prepare meals today?
– What role do traditional dishes play in your country’s culture?
– Do you think people will cook at home less in the future?

IELTS Writing Test – General Training
Writing task 1 (a letter)
One of the machines at your company has stopped working properly. Your manager has asked you to contact a local engineer to get it repaired as soon as possible.
Write a letter to the engineer. In your letter:
– describe the problem with the machine
– explain why it is urgent to have it fixed
– suggest a suitable time for the engineer to visit your workplace.
Write at least 150 words. You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Writing task 2 (an essay)
Some people believe that learning about the history and culture of a country is essential when moving there, while others think it is not necessary.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Describe a wild animal you would like to learn more about. You should say:
– what animal it is

– what you know about it so far
