Latest IELTS questions from Australia – October 2025 (General Training)
We are grateful to our lovely student, T.F., for sharing the writing tasks from her recent IELTS exam in Australia.
IELTS Writing Test – General Training
Writing task 1 (a letter)
You recently read a book and noticed that it contains some incorrect information. Write a letter to the author of the book. In your letter:
– explain how you found out the information was wrong
– describe the incorrect information
– explain why it is important to correct the mistake
Write at least 150 words. You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Writing task 2 (an essay)
In many parts of the world, the proportion of older people is increasing. Do the advantages of this trend outweigh the disadvantages for society?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

New IELTS Speaking questions from Canada – October 2025
Big thanks to our student R.M. for passing along the Speaking questions from his latest IELTS exam in Canada, below:
Speaking test
Part 1 (Interview)
– Do you live in a house or an apartment?
– Can you describe your home a little?
– What do you like about the place where you live now?
– Is there anything you would like to change about your home?
– Have you ever lost your phone before?
– How did you feel when it happened?
– Would you like to replace your phone with a new one soon?
– Do you think phones are too expensive these days?
Part 2 (Cue Card)
Describe a time when you said “thank you” to someone. You should say:
– who the person was
– what you were thanking them for
– how you expressed your gratitude
and explain how you felt after saying “thank you”.
Part 3 (Discussion)
– Do you think people today express gratitude as much as they should?
– Is it important for society as a whole to encourage people to say “thank you”?
– How do people in your country usually show appreciation?
– Do you think saying “thank you” is becoming less common in modern life? Why?
– How can schools or families teach children to be more thankful?
– Do you think gratitude is expressed differently across cultures?
– In what ways does showing gratitude strengthen relationships in society?

Writing test
Writing task 1 (a letter)
You recently had dinner at your friend’s house and would now like to invite him/her to your favourite restaurant to return the favour.
Write a letter to your friend. In your letter:
– thank your friend for the dinner you had at his/her house
– explain why you would like to take him/her to your favourite restaurant
– say when you would like to go
Writing task 2 (an essay)
Many people who are born in rural areas move to big cities when they grow older. Do you think this is a positive or a negative development?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

– What type of magazines do you enjoy reading?
– Do you usually read magazines alone or share them with others?
Part 2 (Cue Card)
Describe a newspaper or magazine you like reading. You should say:
– what it is called
– what it is about
– how often you read it
and explain why you enjoy reading it.
Part 3 (Discussion)
– Do you think young people today are interested in newspapers and magazines? Why or why not?
– What skills do you think a journalist needs to have?
– Do you think journalists should always tell the truth in the news?
– How much responsibility do you think journalists have toward the public?
– Do you think watching the news is important even if the stories don’t affect you directly?

IELTS Writing Test – General Training
Writing task 1 (a letter)
Your friend and his/her family are planning to move to your hometown. Write a letter to your friend. In your letter:
– describe your family house and its surroundings
– recommend some good schools for his/her children
– suggest ways for the family to meet new people in the community
Write at least 150 words. You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Writing task 2 (an essay)
Some people believe that paying workers according to what they sell or produce is the best way to motivate them to work harder. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

The graph below shows the percentage of unemployed people aged 15-24 in five European countries, compared with the overall unemployment rate in those countries.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

– Why don’t you like it?
– Why is chocolate so popular?
– Do you think people in your country eat too much chocolate?

Describe a gift you have received. You should say:
– what the gift was
– who gave it to you
– on what occasion they gave it to you
and explain how you felt when you received it.
Part 3 (Discussion)
– Why do some people become greedy and want everything for themselves?

– What effect does this behaviour have on the people around them?
