Anti-crime Cards Spark Racism Row
Workers in Worcester are being forced to apply for a “green card” which gives them access to upmarket neighbourhoods in the Boland town. The system was introduced by the town’s community policing forum in June 2014 and has all the hallmarks of the DOMPASS system. Some residents say the identity system is nothing but an evil apartheid relic making a comeback. Many gardeners and handymen working in suburbs such as Meiringspark, Rouxpark and Panorama have been issued with the cards, which bear their photograph and personal details. People looking for employment are also issued with the cards to make it easier for homeowners to identify legitimate job hunters. People who cannot produce a card are treated with suspicion and, though not prevented from entering an area, they are monitored closely.

Gavin Rajah's Copycatwalk
Citypress reports : Cape Town fashion designer Gavin Rajah is being accused of stealing another designer’s work – for the third time in two years. The garment at the centre of the latest controversy brewing in fashion circles is a dress shown by Rajah at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Joburg last week. It appears to be an exact replica of UK designer Han Chong’s dress known as the Liliana, just in different colours.

Mission Improbable - Spy accusations
Allegations of espionage against Public Protector Thuli Madonsela and certain political leaders made on social media. Now The security agency is investigating a claim that Julius Malema, Thuli Madonsela, Joseph Mathunjwa and Lindiwe Mazibuko were spying against the state. Julius Malema says the investigation is merely an effort to divert attention from a failing State Security Agency. (David Harrison, M&G) “Our intelligence service is not intelligent and is led by someone who is not intelligent,” he said. On Thursday, the SSA released a statement saying it was investigating claims made on what appeared to be an amateur blog that Malema, public protector Thuli Madonsela, Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union head Joseph Mathunjwa and former Democratic Alliance parliamentary head Lindiwe Mazibuko were involved in spying against the state.

Bibi - Israeli Sniper
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was invited by Republican House Speaker John Boehner to address a joint session of congress to the annoyance of Obama and his adminstration. This invitation was issued without knowledge from the White House. Boehner fully admits that his failure to communicate with the White House was not an oversight. He sneaked behind Obama’s back to set the date for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech with his country’s ambassador to the United States. Boehner asked the foreign dignitary not to tell the U.S. president. The disconnect between President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is about a lot more than bad personal chemistry. Their relationship founders on a deep ideological divide and a sharply conflicting world view. The US under Obama's leadership is trying to arrive at an international agreement with Iran over nuclear arms. This is strongly opposed by Netanyahu and US Republicans. The invitation and the speech itself is considered by many commenators more about political electioneering by both Netanyahu and by the Republicans than about the actual topic of discussion. The speech was classic Netanyahu. He mixed the politics of fear with the politics of bravery in adversity. Israeli opposition figures and columnists reacted to Binyamin Netanyahu’s speech to the US Congress with a combination of shrugs and cynicism. Some suggested it had served his desire for re-election more than helping stop Iran’s nuclear programme.

The Cape Town Fires and the No Confidence Vote in Parliament
City Press reports the motion of no confidence in President Zuma was proposed by Agang SA, who subsequently tried but failed to get it postponed pending the outcome of a court bid to prevent Speaker Baleka Mbete from presiding over the debate. Agang SA also wants voting to be held by secret ballot, not open vote as is currently the case. At the same time of this charade, more than 100 South African firefighters are battling wildfires on the mountains around Cape Town. Thousands of hectares of vegetation have been reduced to ashes on Chapman's Peak, while several homes and a holiday lodge have been destroyed.

Fifty Shades of Red
Fifty Shades of Red - State security minister 'speechless' with embarrassment'. Experts said A mass leak of South African espionage secrets will cause many foreign agencies to think twice before sharing information with Pretoria, hampering its efforts to walk a delicate diplomatic tightrope between East and West. State Security Minister David Mahlobo has responded to the leaking of South African "spy cables" by the Al Jazeera news network, saying "the leaking of the purported documents detailing operational details of the State Security Agency is condemned in the strongest possible terms". Mahlobo said: "In terms of the legal and policy framework governing South African management of classified information, it is illegal to disclose such information outside of the classification protocols in place. "Such conduct has the dangerous effect of undermining operational effectiveness of the work to secure this country and borders on undermining diplomatic relations with our partners in the international community. Any leakages of classified information undermine the national security of any state." Mahlobo said "a full investigation" had been launched into the leakage and that "its veracity and verification will be handled in terms of the protocols governing the management of classified information". Democratic Alliance Parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane said that it was worrying and embarrassing that such delicate information about the state of the country is now in the public domain.
