Strange Bedfellows Talking Dirty
The EFF's Julius Malema and IFP's Mangosuthu Buthelezi have decided to let go of past grievances and protect each other's members while campaigning. At a press conference Malema apologised to Buthelezi. Back in 2009, Malema called Buthelezi a Factory Fault and the IFP a terrorist organisation. Malema apologised for unfortunate remarks that were made at the time. Buthelezi "wholeheartedly accepted" and "acknowledged that this reflects the maturity that defines the EFF's approach to the electoral policies of South Africa".

National Unity - Mamphela Ramphele and Helen Zille?
Democratic Alliance (DA) announces anti-apartheid activist Mamphela Ramphele as their presidential candidate in the next election. Ms Ramphele, the companion of late black consciousness leader Steve Biko, only formed her Agang party a year ago. Against criticism that the DA is too white to win an election in democratic South Africa, Helen Zille, leader of the party said there was "no better person" than Ms Ramphele to lead their election bid. The political marriage brings together a charismatic leader who lacks organisational resources and a party that has strong structures but has long battled a perception that it is white-dominated and evocative of the apartheid past.

World Economic Forum - Davos 2014 on the Theme of Inequality
World leaders meet at the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting in Davos. It draws the world's top CEOs and the some of the planet's most powerful leaders to Davos. Other than economy, its forums focus on the international issues generating headlines. The divide between rich and poor continues to increase. The theme of this year's gathering is 'The Reshaping of the World: Consequences for Society, Politics and Business,' which looks at the causes of future global instability, like climate change, income inequality and the vast and growing rates of youth unemployment around the world. While world leaders are discussing growth, Oxfam said in advance of the annual meeting that the world's elite have rigged laws in their own favour, undermining democracy and creating a chasm of inequality across the globe.
