The Ebook is Coming!

It is time again for our weekly update! For the past couple of weeks, I have been posting information about the features we've included in the Spring Edition 2023 on social media, and I thought it was high time that I shared some of them here! Some of the features include: Stronghold (our new Science Fiction serial) by Nathaniel Caldwell, the next installment of Her Father's Mantle (by me ; D), a Rivers of Truth article by Lisa Loucks-Christenson, our writing contest winners, puzzles, cartoons, an article about the making of the cover, and Devotions from Christian Nerds Unite, Finding God in Video Games, Geek Devotions, and Finding God in Anime. These are not all of the features included, but some of the highlights I could pull off of the top of my head. And this list doesn't even include the reviews! At 136 pages, you will not want for fun things to read!

Do you love our magazine? GREAT! Share it with your local bookstore! As of right now, we have 5 distribution locations and we would be thrilled to add more. If you are interested in being a Clean Fiction Distributor, contact me via email (info@cleanfictionmagazine.com).

Don't forget to mark your calendars for March 20th and the Spring Edition 2023 Ebook release! Only 4 days left!

Now for some more photos of the Spring Edition 2023 in the wild! These photos are from Bradley Caffee and Tony B. Richard. You can find Bradley at bradleycaffee.com and Tony at jointhealliancetoday.com. If you would like your photo featured in this way, send it over via email or tag me on Facebook or Instagram!

The Windows into the Multiverse Writing Contest is back! Visit our website under "Contests" for more information about content and the submission period.

This Contest is Sponsored by Strangers and Aliens, a Podcast By Ben Avery Exploring Faith and Imagination, at strangersandaliens.com (Facebook & YouTube).

May your day be bright and your reading be epic!

Almost There

Hello All! Sorry to have missed you last week, but I was in sunny Florida for a family vacation and by the time I realized what day it was it was too late. The vacation itself was rather ill-timed considering our deadline, but it could not be helped. The past few days I have been working feverishly to have a finished magazine for March 1st and I expect to continue to do so as soon as I am done sending out this missive. If you could send up some prayers for my sanity, they would be appreciated to be sure! Now, if you missed it on social media, here are the winners of our Cover Art Contest!

Congratulations to our top three covers for the Spring Edition 2023!

First Place
Depths of Atlantis by Hannah Carter Designed by Miblart

Second Place
Love's Full Circle by Cherry Christenson Designed by Elaina Lee/For The Muse Design

Third Place
Ghosts of the Future by Ben Avery Designed by radu_muresan

This contest was sponsored by Peacock Books & Wildlife Art where you can find books & photographs curated & produced by Lisa Loucks-Christenson (peacockbookswildlifeart.com) and Author Joan Fennell Carringer, fast-moving stories with sweet romance and a touch of humor (joanfennellcarringer.com).

Clean Fiction Cover Design Contest: Voting goes through Saturday, February 25th so don't wait! This Contest is Sponsored by Author K.M. Carroll (Find her books at KMCarrollBlog.Wordpress.com) and Author Jessica Bertrand (Find her books at JessicaBertrand.com).

Contest Winner

Hello Everyone! We have our first winner of the year, Artist Laura Hollingsworth! Her image of Artham "Pete" Wingfeather from The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson won with a total of 290 of the 426 votes that were cast. This gave her image slightly more than 68% of the vote. Wonderful Job, Laura! You can find Laura Hollingsworth on Instagram under @laura.hollingsworth. Show her some love!

I want to give a special thank you to our sponsors for the Character Art Contest. This contest was sponsored by LisaLC.Live (blogtalkradio.com/lisalc) "Walk the Talk Show". Listen in as Lisa chats with authors from all genres about their books. This contest was also sponsored by Author Pam Halter, an award-winning children's, middle-grade, and YA fantasy author. Learn more about her books/services at pamhalter.com. Show these sponsors some love!

We only have a single Sponsor Banner that has not been claimed for our Clean Fiction Cover Design Contest. It is only $25 and the money goes to pay for the contest prize. If you enjoy our contests, please consider becoming a sponsor.

Clean Fiction Cover Design Contest: This popular contest will return for our Spring Edition 2023. The winner is featured on the cover of the Winter Edition 2022. Will your image be the next cover of Clean Fiction Magazine?

What Are The Requirements?

1) The artwork must include bold color blocking. This makes the cover easier to enjoy when it is displayed in a tiny format, such as on a person’s phone. View past Clean Fiction covers for the preferred style, but feel free to use this style loosely.

2) The artwork must include a figure in modest attire. This could be a man, woman, or creature. Obviously, if the figure is a creature, only humanoid creatures must wear modest attire.

3) The theme of the Spring Edition cover is “New Life”. This topic is as broad as you would like to make it. Feel free to be as creative with it as you’d like. The border will be a medium purple.

And, that’s it! We wanted to leave the requirements as broad as possible in order to give artists the opportunity to flex their creative muscles. Depending on the number of entries, all entrants or staff-chosen finalists will be displayed for the Clean Fiction Community to vote on a winner.

How Do I Enter?

The submission period is January 30th-February 11th. Email your submission to info@cleanfictionmagazine.com along with the following information: Your Name, The Name of the Artwork, Social Media Handle/Art Website, and an Email Address (for contact purposes only). Voting will be February 13th-25th and the Grand Prize Winner will be announced along with the Cover Reveal on March 1st.

What is the Grand Prize? $50*

* Due to a lack of Sponsors for the Winter Edition contest the prize has been decreased. You retain all rights to your image other than the use of the image as the cover of Clean Fiction Magazine. We reserve the right to reject a cover for any reason.

This Contest is Sponsored by Author K.M. Carroll. Check out all 23 of her books at KMCarrollBlog.Wordpress.com.

Windows into the Multiverse Writing Contest: Submissions are now closed for this contest. The winner/s will be announced on February 10th. This Contest is Sponsored By Ambassador International (Books that Magnify the Lord Jesus Christ) at ambassador-international.com and Strangers and Aliens, a Podcast Exploring Faith and Imagination, at strangersandaliens.com (Facebook & YouTube).

Cover Art Contest: Voting has begun and will run through February 11th. There are 8 wonderful covers for you to choose from. Which Cover Art is your favorite? You decide the winner! You may vote once per day. Have your family and friends join in on the fun! May the best cover win! This contest is sponsored by Peacock Books & Wildlife Art where you can find books & photographs curated & produced by Lisa Loucks-Christenson (peacockbookswildlifeart.com) and Author Joan Fennell Carringer, fast-moving stories with sweet romance and a touch of humor (joanfennellcarringer.com).

2 More Days

Hello All! I had such a fun time with everyone on Friday during our Clean Fiction Community Day event! If you are bummed that you missed out, never fear! All the games, conversations, and information are still available on the Clean Fiction Community Discord (https://discord.gg/yetJ9ZpGED ). Pop over and see what you missed. I hope to enjoy the company of even more of you during the next Clean Fiction Community Day.

Some extra events that are coming up include FREE FRIDAYS! Starting tomorrow, an ebook edition of Clean Fiction Magazine will be available for FREE every Friday on Amazon through March 3. (See Schedule Below)

Unfortunately, I will not be able to offer the Winter Edition 2022 free again until after the launch of the Spring Edition 2022, but you have plenty to read until then! At last count, we have featured 156 authors, columnists, poets, and cartoonists in our 4 Editions of publication. That is a total of 434 features. Did you know that you can find the contact information for all of these 156 authors, columnists, poets, and cartoonists on our website? Check out the "Author" link in the menu and browse for your favorite genre. Following Indie Authors not only will give you a unique selection of books to enjoy, but it also helps their small business to stay afloat. In this time when money is tight, every little bit helps.

Another event on the horizon is the Clean Fiction Advertising Deadline on February 11th. If you have an upcoming event such as a book launch or want to advertise your editing services, feel free to send me an email at info@cleanfictionmagazine.com and I will be happy to find the most inexpensive price for what you need.

May your day be bright and your reading be epic!

It's a Beautiful Day

If I am being honest, things in my personal life lately have been pretty stressful. People I love were having major surgery, friends of mine are hurting, my kiddos were sick, and in the last week, 3 women close to me have either had a baby, are actively having a baby, or are trying to save their pregnancy. I don't know how you deal with stress, but even though I am worlds better at it than I once was, I am not great at it. Others' pain and hardship weigh on me as if it were my own. Lately, I have been floundering under the weight, but in the midst of the hardest day, God sent me a smile in the shape of a young boy singing a song. And now I want to share the words with you because I am well aware that as long as we live in this world and not the next, we will have strife and hardship. This is your reminder that no matter what is going on in your life right now, you are not alone.

Lord, I thank you for sunshine.
Thank you for rain.
Thank you for joy.
Thank you for pain.
It's a beautiful day-ay-ay-ay-ay.
It's a beautiful day-ay-ay-ay-ay.
It's a beautiful day!

I don't want to act too high and mighty 'cause tomorrow I may fall down on my face!

Lord, I thank you for sunshine.
Thank you for rain.
Thank you for joy.
Thank you for pain.
It's a beautiful day-ay-ay-ay-ay.
It's a beautiful day-ay-ay-ay-ay.
It's a beautiful day!

May your day be bright and your reading be epic!

A Day Late, but Not a Dollar Short

Do you know what happens when you are juggling a few too many things and then come down with a cold? You allow Thursday to pass you by in a haze of that feeling that you forgot something. Thankfully, I may be a "Day Late" but I am not a "Dollar Short". I am not exactly certain where that phrase came from, but I thought that it applied to my predicament today. How many times have you been late with something and felt that overwhelming sense of guilt as you tried to explain why things had ended up that way? All of us are late sometimes. In most cases, it is not a conscious choice, you did not think to yourself, "I cannot wait to inconvenience this person!" There are times when people act as if this is exactly what happened, and times when no one pays the slightest bit of attention. I should know. I could win the gold medal for lateness in the Olympics. We all have character flaws, and this is mine. It used to bother me a lot because it is a flaw that is easy to point out and criticize, and frankly, I am rather a perfectionist. Within the last year, I have come to realize that instead of beating myself up for my flaws I should instead try to find the positives within them. Here is a secret I had to figure out for myself that I will give you for free: Some flaws are God-given and there for a reason. I mean, Paul had one that he called a "thorn in his flesh", but God wouldn't take it away. Why? It had a purpose. THAT is why I am a "Day Late" but NOT a "Dollar Short" because without my ability to put my whole focus into my tasks (the quirk that is constantly making me late) I wouldn't be able to complete things with the level of skill that I do. Accepting my flaw as something that the Lord has given me on purpose has become more of a blessing than I could have thought possible. So the next time you want to beat yourself up for a quirk that society has decided is a flaw remember that God made you exactly the way you are for a good reason. Fearfully and wonderfully made, right? Of course, right.

Character Art Contest: There are only two more days to go in the submission period for this contest! We currently have 5 submissions and they are strong ones at that! I can't decide which one I like the best! Voting will begin January 16th and run through January 28th. You may vote once per day. Have your family and friends join in on the fun! Within this last week, we have gained two sponsors for this contest. It is sponsored by LisaLC.Live (blogtalkradio.com/lisalc) "Walk the Talk Show". Listen in as Lisa chats with authors from all genres about their books. Also, sponsored by Author Pam Halter, award-winning children's, middle grade, and YA fantasy author. Learn more about her books/services at pamhalter.com. Show these sponsors some love!

Windows into the Multiverse Writing Contest: We have received a half dozen submissions at this point, but don't worry there is still plenty of time to submit! The deadline for submissions is January 31st. To find out more about this contest please visit the "Contests" page of our website. This Contest is Sponsored By Ambassador International (Books that Magnify the Lord Jesus Christ) at ambassador-international.com and Strangers and Aliens, a Podcast Exploring Faith and Imagination, at strangersandaliens.com (Facebook & YouTube).

Meet us on the Clean Fiction Community Discord Server for an evening of information, prizes, and introductions. We will be giving away exclusive stickers, 3D-printed bookmarks, and a paperback copy of the Winter Edition 2022. I will be sharing with you about upcoming contests and quotes from some of our Windows into the Multiverse submissions. You will also be given a chance to connect with some of our reviewers. It will be an evening of fun where no one takes themselves too seriously. Come be part of the community!

Happy New Year

Happy New Year Everyone! As the new year starts so does the process of the next magazine. Sometimes the relentless pace of quarterly publishing is daunting, but the show must go on. I will continue as long as the Lord allows. This past December was a bit of a recuperation period for me. Even with the rest, I have already been able to give our Patreon subscribers 5 completely finished pages including a Sneak Peek at our new serial story, "Stronghold" by Nathaniel Duane Caldwell, set to appear in our Science Fiction section. Please consider joining our Patreon at even the $1 "Sneak Peek" level. The more steady income from subscribers helps us to pay those pesky monthly bills that come with keeping the magazine running. I will keep all of you posted on what is coming, but subscribers get to know first ; D There will be more fun things on the horizon so keep your eyes on our newsletter, website, and social media.

Contests: Both the Windows into the Multiverse Writing Contest AND the Character Art Contest are open for submissions. See information on our website under "Contests". The submission period for the writing contest is January 1st-31st. The submission period for the art contest is January 2nd-14th. Don't wait or you may miss your chance to enter.

Gentle Reminder: Please continue to pray for Mary Schlegel, her children, and her family. Also, please contribute to the GoFundMe set up by Mary's cousin https://www.gofundme.com/f/schlegelfa... . I do not know if they had life insurance, but I can tell you that everything going forward is going to be VERY expensive. Also, our friends over at Lorehaven have set up a way for those who did know Aaron personally to contribute to a book of memories for Mary to share with their children. You can send memories and photos to lacy@lorehaven.com by Thursday, January 5th 2023 (Today) to have your contribution included.

May your day be bright and your reading be epic!

Are You An Artist?

For the March 20th Spring Edition, we will be holding a Character Art Contest for the Clean Fiction Community. This contest was formerly known as the Book Fan Art Contest, but we wanted to encourage professional Character Artists to participate as well as those who make art for fun. We ask that the characters be from a book/book series/manga, and not movies/shows/anime.

We do not require a particular art style for this contest. Do you draw manga? Great! Draw a character from your favorite manga. Do you prefer westerns? Wonderful! Desert paintings are great. Are you a digital artist? Cool! Share your art with us! Whether you are drawing at your kitchen table, computer, or studio your art is welcome. We also encourage authors who have had character art drawn for their books to contact their character artists and ask permission to participate in this contest. We want to promote as many artists as we can.

DATES AND PRIZES
Submissions will begin January 2nd and go through January 14th. Voting will begin January 16th and run through January 28th (See our website for the small print). If you win, you will receive a $25 Amazon Gift Card to use in buying books, paints, more art supplies...whatever you want! You will also receive a commemorative medal, a printable certificate, and an Artist Feature (a $40 value).
