Believe it or Not...
You guys are never going to believe what happened this week. I can barely believe it. I am sure many of you who are authors received an email from Amazon this week notifying you of the price changes that are to go into effect on June 20th. When I first read the email the only message I received was "Print copies are going up in price". Already I was having to sell our magazine at a ridiculous price and receive only as much as $0.48 in return for a print copy. A price increase would put the final nail in the coffin of print editions for us. But upon my second perusal following a mad dash around the web to find another printer, I saw a glimmer of hope. Amazon admitted that they were charging too much for color and had decided to fix it. WHAT!?! My eyeballs couldn't read the words fast enough. I went to their chart and did the math. This is not possible! I rushed over to KDP to make a draft to see if what I suspected was true. It was! Previously, Amazon charged the exact same for Standard and Premium color. So because of this I always went with Premium color because why not? Well, now I had a reason to switch.
So what is the big news?
Our print magazine is no longer $17.99-$16.99 anymore it is $12.00. $12.00!!!!! I spent the last week converting all of the print editions over to Standard color and the savings to both the readers AND authors/distributors is enormous! If you could see me, you would see that I am having a rather fun time with the most silly of happy dances. I never wanted Clean Fiction to be so expensive, but I had no other choice. The fact that Amazon's print department admitted their mistake and fixed it is a miracle to be sure. What I thought was going to be the end turned out to be the new beginning our magazine needed so badly.
So, Clean Fiction Community, snag a print copy for your church library or homeschool group. Tell your local public library that you want them to start carrying our magazine. Pick up a copy for your friend for their birthday or share it with your mom. The barrier to paperback purchasing is down and may you all have the chance to hold a copy in your hands. It is a page-turner to be sure ; D (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C65TX7PX)
May your day be bright and your reading be epic!
~ Amy Lynn McConahy, Clean Fiction Publisher
P.S. Please bear with me. The website links are not yet updated and the very last edition just went fully live this morning. If you have problems purchasing, please let me know. Due to all of the changes, there is a high likelihood of this week's Free Friday being messed up. This week's freebie should have been the Spring Edition 2022. It is possible that it will still go through, but in case it doesn't you have been apprised.

A Winner and Thank You
I asked for help last week and OH BOY did you guys deliver! Not only did I receive a tear-jerking amount of love and support over email, but we went from no book covers for the Cover Art Contest to 24! Whenever I feel discouraged or wonder if I am doing the right thing, this community comes through with the encouragement that I need. I am over here alone on my computer trying to shine the light of Christ as best I can and when my mirror becomes cloudy, you hand me the Windex. Thanks, guys. *dabs eyes with tissue*
*cough, cough* NOW I am asking you to show some of that love to our most recent winner, Margaret Reinhardt! Margaret won our contest by a mere 6 votes and there was some pretty epic back and forth with Joan Fennell Carringer's submission, but she managed to triumph in the end. Margaret shares her manga (Japanese Comics) finds on her Instagram as well as on YouTube under the handle margreadsmanga. I encourage you to follow her on both platforms! Congrats again, Margaret!
As for the Cover Art Contest, it is a good thing that I managed to have three sponsors for this popular contest because otherwise, the "Vote" page would look pretty crazy. Here is a little update on how things are going: So far we have received a total of 313 votes. Our top three covers are only separated by 10 votes total so it is still anyone's contest to win. Our current first place is Cover 19 The Road Home by Malissa Chapin, second is Cover 24 Show Me Betrayal by Ellen E. Withers, and third is Cover 6 The Death and Resurrection of Baseball by William R. Douglas. As I said before, the votes are VERY close up through the top 10 so keep the votes coming for your favorite authors!
Would you like to support Clean Fiction Magazine? Advertise your business with us! Our advertising deadline is this Saturday, May 20th. Author/Book Events start at just $5 and all advertising is very reasonably priced. Please check out our website's "Pricing Guide" page for sizes and prices. Your support means a lot to me and our reviewers. It is also the reason I can give the Ebooks away so often.
May your day be bright and your reading be epic!

Cover Art Contest
Before we get into talking about our current contests, I wanted to make an admission of sorts. I am behind. Behind in laying out pages, contacting advertisers, and otherwise running the magazine. Why? For the last six weeks, my family members (including my littles) have been suffering from back-to-back illnesses. Being the "last man standing" so to speak and a constant caregiver to the others in my household, left me with very little time to complete my normal tasks. Praise the Lord that everyone is healthy for the moment, but this leaves me in a rather difficult place. Due to being so behind, our advertising deadline will be moved to May 20th and our paperback release may also have to move to June 20th instead of the usual first of the month. Don't worry, this magazine isn't going anywhere, but for the first time, I will have to use the time cushion I left myself in case of an emergency. I do ask that you send up a prayer or two for my stress levels, but I know that God is in control of all things. He allowed this bump in the road for a reason and will also provide the way forward.
Now, with that out of the way, I want to talk about our Cover Art Contest. We have not received any submissions yet which is perplexing to me. This is a FREE way to advertise your book or cover design services. Can a cover designer participate? Of course. Can an author participate even if they did not design their cover? Yep. Is there a limit on the number of covers that I submit? Please, only send one cover per person/design company. Does it matter what genre the book is? No, but keep it clean! Submissions go through May 13. (Only 2 days away! Don't miss out!) Voting will begin May 15 and go through May 27. Simply email info@cleanfictionmagazine.com the following: Your Cover Art (In JPG format), Your Name, the Name of the Cover Designer, Title/Author of the Book (if it is not clearly visible in the image), Your Website/Social Media, and an Email Address (for contact purposes).
This Contest is Sponsored by K.M. Carroll, Esther Wallace, and by Lisa Loucks-Christenson. Find Carroll's fantastic books at kmcarrollblog.wordpress.com, Wallace's books/art at theblackphantomchronicles.com and The Cougar Creek Herald Series by Loucks-Christenson at cougarcreekminnesota.com.

Last Call!
First of all, I want to send out a big THANK YOU to our readers and reviewers for making last week's Surprise Super Sale so successful. During the sale, we topped the charts in all of the Literary Criticism Best Seller Lists on Amazon. Both the Winter Edition 2022 and the Spring Edition 2023 are still sitting pretty in the top 100 of several categories. Most notably, the Winter Edition 2022 is at #16 on the Literary Criticism Reference list. Thanks again for making this magazine a success!
Also, have you watched the Christian Nerds Unite Podcast yet? If you haven't, I highly recommend it! Ricky Pope does a great job as a host and ALL of the episodes are fun and informational to watch. It is available on all of the podcasting platforms and as well as on YouTube.

This was a Banner Week (from 4/20/23)
This is a banner week! Please read all the way to the end of this week's missive or you will miss something great!
This week we added 3 new reviewers to our lineup. Kathleen Bird will be our Fantasy Reviewer (find her at AdvenTrilogy.Wordpress.com), D.T. Powell will be our Fairy Tale Reviewer (find her at dtpowellwrites.com), and James E. Merritt will be our Epic Reviewer spanning both Fantasy and Science Fiction (find him at https://www.amazon.com/author/jamesem...). You can find their social media handles on the "Contact" page of our website. I am so glad to have so many talented reviewers. Our Fantasy & Fairy Tale and Science Fiction & Superheroes Sections will definitely not be lacking in the Summer Edition 2023.
The next awesome thing that happened this week is that I had the wonderful privilege to be interviewed by Ricky Pope of the Christian Nerds Unite Podcast. I am extremely honored and humbled by this opportunity. Ricky was really fun and easy to talk to. The interview lasts slightly over 47 minutes, but I know that we talked way longer than that. It was really great to get the chance to chat with another like-minded Christian brother whose level of nerd was similar to my own. If you haven't heard of the Christian Nerds Unite Podcast, you really should check it out. You can find it on all of the podcast platforms as well as on YouTube. Find the interview at this link: https://youtu.be/oIgyvQRYfbk
The next fun thing is happening TODAY! We will be having FREE Friday tomorrow as usual, but TODAY we will be giving away ALL FIVE Editions of Clean Fiction Magazine for FREE as Ebooks on Amazon. That is right! You read correctly. ALL OF THEM ARE FREE TODAY ONLY! Tell your friends. Tell your neighbors. Tell your mail carrier. Tell everyone! I want to give away a stupidly large amount of magazines and I need your help! Share the news around your social media or forward this email to your family. Whatever you have to do to get the word out. We won't be offering a deal like this again any time soon.
Beachy Bookstagram Contest: Submissions end April 29th. Voting will begin May 1st and go through May 13th. To submit your photo, simply email info@cleanfictionmagazine.com the following: Your Photo, Your Name, Title/Author of the Book (if it is not clearly visible in the photo), an Email Address (for contact purposes), and Your Social Media Handle/Website.
This Contest is Sponsored by Author Pam Halter and Author Jessica Bertrand. You can find Pam Halter's books at PamHalter.com and Jessica Bertrand's books at JessicaBertrand.com

How is your Bookstagram Game?
We have another contest coming up! This super fun contest is our most low-key and is a great way to advertise your book for FREE. Our Beachy Bookstagram contest boils down to a fun contest based on book photos that are then voted on by the Clean Fiction Community. Instagram is not required in any way despite the name. Whether your book is beach themed OR it is beach ready, we want your photos! Does the book have to be beach themed? No. What book isn’t fun to read at the beach? The answer is none of course. Do you have to be an author to participate? Nope. Can you be an author and participate? Yep. This is purely a contest to see who can take/make the most beachy picture of their favorite book! Is that fun or what? Whether it is a photo with a pair of your favorite flip flops or a scattering of sea shells send in your best Beachy Bookstagram for our Summer Edition.

Happy Easter!
Easter is almost here! And to celebrate, you can find our newest edition (Spring Edition 2023) Ebook FREE tomorrow on Amazon in celebration of Good Friday. How do you celebrate Easter? Some dye eggs, some prepare baskets of presents, and some (like my ancestors) bake Serbian Easter Bread.
It is true that I am only part Serbian (technically Serbs of Croatia) as with many of those who were born in the USA, but this particular portion was enough to have some traditions passed down through the family. If you were to search for "Serbian Easter Bread", you would find all sorts of different shapes and symbols, but I am only qualified to talk about the one that was passed down to me. This particular loaf is a tri-braided circle with three red eggs tucked into the braid to form the points of a triangle. The red eggs represent the members of the Trinity and the color represents the sacrifice of Jesus. The round shape represents the unending existence of God. No matter how you celebrate Easter this year I implore you to remember the words of this silly kid's rhyme:
It's not about the bunny.
It's not about the eggs.
Easter is about the God who saves.

New Contest Time!
I hope that everyone is having a fantastic week so far. I am coming to the end of my vacation time and feel refreshed and ready to work. You will find the information for the next Windows into the Multiverse Writing Contest below. Submissions begin April 1st. Also, do NOT miss your opportunity to snag the Winter Edition 2022 ebook tomorrow on Amazon. This is the first time that I have been able to offer it for FREE in 3 months! Now, on with the contest information:
The photograph (found at cleanfictionmagazine.com under "Contests") is what I prefer to call a “Window”. In a way paintings, photos, and other visual arts are “Windows” into another space. Whether it is in the artist’s mind or a recreation of an actual place, these “Windows” allow us to pause for a moment and see someone else’s view.
Why the “Multiverse” then? Many authors use paintings, photos, and other visual arts in order to inspire them to create whole new universes and times for us to enjoy. What message will you find in this bottle? I cannot wait to read about what you find.
This popular contest is a staple of our magazine and will continue to accept submissions quarterly. You will find 3 winners in this edition: one in Fantasy & Fairy Tales, one in Science & Superheroes, and one in Mystery & History. All 3 of these stories were so good that we couldn’t help but give them all a prize.

Amazon Flag Hoisting (Take 2!)
Hello Everyone! I am so happy to share some pretty awesome news with all of you, we have a second #1 New Release Amazon Flag. We first achieved it for the paperback version of this edition and it is back up and flying again for the Ebook. Did you know that Clean Fiction Magazine has received a #1 New Release Flag for every single edition at the time of release? Well, it is true! We are now 5 for 5 as a #1 New Release in a Literary Criticism category. This is currently where we sit in the Amazon Bestseller categories:
Best Sellers Rank: #120,922 in Kindle Store
#8 in Science Fiction & Fantasy Literary Criticism (Kindle Store)
#20 in Books & Reading Literary Criticism
#33 in Science Fiction & Fantasy Literary Criticism (Books)
I am so excited to share this awesome news with you all. God is Good!
In other news, we need sponsors! Sponsor a Clean Fiction contest for only $25! There is a limit of 3 sponsors per contest at this time. With a sponsorship you receive: a website banner, mentions on social media, and your banner will be printed along with the contest in the upcoming edition.
Send your banner information, graphics, business name, and contact information to info@cleanfictionmagazine.com to see what sponsorships are open for the Summer Edition 2023.
The Windows into the Multiverse Writing Contest is back! Visit our website under "Contests" for more information about content and the submission period.
This Contest is Sponsored by Strangers and Aliens, a Podcast By Ben Avery Exploring Faith and Imagination, at strangersandaliens.com (Facebook & YouTube).
May your day be bright and your reading be epic!
