The Link Up: The Calming Show Em Is Shocked Everyone LOVES, Mal’s Perfect Summer Set, And The $15 Electric Shaver We Won’t Live Without

Happy Sunday! It’s fair to say that everyone on the team was READY for Friday this past week. All good things, but it was definitely a week that wiped us out (we can still blame it on Mercury Gatorade, right?? :)). Not complaining though! But it’s probably best that we get straight into these links…
This week’s house tour was just a joy to see! The comedy powerhouse couple, June Diane Raphael and Paul Scheer, have a home that is not only full of character but is somehow both moody and airy. And if you’ve ever listened to June’s (and Jessica St. Clair’s) podcast, The Deep Dive, you would expect nothing less than perfection. Go see it in all its glory and peep those green ceramic candlestick holders that we now must have:)
From Emily: The “right before bed” show that we let our kids watch ON A WEEK NIGHT. I won’t deny that we watch TV many nights a week together after dinner if there is time (they are upstairs by 8, usually asleep by 8:30 if you want to know). Brian recently reset our smart TV to automatically start with the Bob Ross painting show instead of whatever annoying news program was coming on and y’all, all of us are MESMERIZED by it. So if they want “just one more” show (if we’ve exhausted the Blueys and finished whatever design/art competition show we are binging – 4th Season of Blown Away is out BTW) we happily throw on the calmness of Bob Ross and watch him paint a beautiful seascape. Man, he makes painting look so easy and it’s just really calm and inspiring. All of us LOVE IT.
From Gretchen: A few weeks ago, our photographer, Kaitlin turned me onto a new iPhone tripod attachment. With the amount of content I need to capture on the daily, a good phone mount is a must. And thank goodness I’ve now got this one! Gone are the days of adjusting the old, crappy, plastic phone holder I had been using, what felt like 11,182 times just to get it to sit straight. This new mount uses a ball head design so I can spin, angle, and LOCK the phone to sit exactly where I want it to. Every. Time. It’s very robust, made out of aluminum so I know it will last, and aligning the shot so it sits totally straight is now a breeze! It works on just about any tripod base, so even if you go the cheaper, plastic route on the stand, springing for the mount makes the whole setup feel like a million bucks–even though it’s only $40, which for a product this good feels like a steal of a deal! Highly recommend.
From Alryn: I first learned of the clothing brand Boden when I was spending far too much money on baby clothes for my unborn daughter (now it’s basically strictly Target ha!). The first two things I ever bought her before she was Earthside were a bumblebee dress and a fox jumper, and the quality on those is SO unbelievable. It feels like pieces I’ll pass on to my grandchildren one day, honestly. Not everything is necessarily that level, but everything I’ve gotten from Boden since, including for myself, has been so wonderful and well worth the price. If you’re looking to buy something special for yourself or your kids (or as a gift to someone else), definitely check out this brand.
From Caitlin: I recently discovered Deliberation Station – a $3 printout with 14 questions, designed to help me shop more thoughtfully – and I’m kind of stunned by how helpful it is (and non-restrictive, too – still room for some fun!). I always try to be a conscientious consumer, but I have a medium-sized case of FOSO (fear of selling out) and questionable impulse control so it can be really easy to fly through an online checkout without a second thought…until now. I really wish I didn’t need a worksheet to help me shop (especially as a grown adult in her 30s!) but if it helps, it helps, you know? If nothing else, they’re great questions to keep in mind as you shop!
From Jess: This might be my second time recommending this product but given it’s been a while, I used it this week, and I still love it after 4+ years, it’s worth shouting out again. Actually, a few months ago my best friend asked me what I did about my upper lip hairs. I told her I use this wonderful little electric shaver and have never looked back. To think I bleached my ‘stashe for over a decade when I could have just done a quick buzz buzz, it’s wild. Look, it’s my mother’s fault who put the fear of god in me that if I waxed or shaved my mustache it would grow in patchy and look bad. To be fair she’s not wrong in the patchy department but since my hair is thin and not super dark, it’s really not noticeable. It’s a whopping $15 and I hope it sets you free too:)
From Mallory: I’m a sucker for fun pants and I found my latest victim. These are literally called resort pants and they’re SO cute on – they make the booty pop while still being comfy and light and flowy!! How do they do it?! And for only $25??? Add these to cart y’all. Plus it comes with a matching top I just bought too bc we’re about to go to Mexico. It’s perfect and I’ll be able to wear them all summer long.
Lastly, we got an Instagram DM from a follower who is desperately trying to help a beloved Portland nurse, Stephanie Payne, who not only recently lost her husband to dementia but during the January ice storm had her home hit by a ton of trees causing an unbelievable amount of damage. The pictures are so awful. Her insurance will hardly cover anything which has made it impossible to live in her home. Here is her GoFundMe that friends started on her behalf if you are able to contribute anything.
Thanks for stopping by and see you tomorrow! xx

Shopping IRL: I Went To Target And Found Some Killer Spring And Summer Sets (Amongst Other Things)

In another episode of “I Go to Stores and Try on Every Single Thing In Order to Show You My Favorites,” today I present to you a little local store called Target. Now, as you know I had an extremely wonderful partnership for over 8 years that grew, morphed, shifted, and changed annually (typical to digital/social media). While this post is completely unsponsored and we are not currently in contract, you can take the girl out of Target but you can’t take Target out of the girl (they were simply too good to me + their stuff is just so good + an unmatched retail experience). I will say that in the past I have found way more fashion at Target than I did this trip – I think their attempt to appeal to Gen Z is leaving some of us cuspers confused, but I think that more of a “me problem”. Anyway, Kaitlin, Gretch, and I went for 2 hours and I tried on a billion things. Here is what I found and loved (that I felt good in).

Linen Trench Coat – $55 | Vest – $25 | Shorts – $25 | Mules (not Target)
I may need to get an office job – all of these cute short suit sets (with vests) are selling me on a life outside of athleisure and mud clothes (I bought this one from Old Navy and LOVE IT). Now, this vest has more of a shape than the straight-shaped Old Navy set that I bought (and prefer) but the color and material of this light green set is so nice. I didn’t see a jacket that matched so I paired it with the best white linen coat that I ever did see. It’s a linen trench that I’ve worn a few times now and does exactly what it professes to do – give you that nice spring layer in a really casual and chic way.
Black And White Knit Set
Top – $21 | Skirt – $21 | Mules (not Target)
How cute is this??? Again, another separate set (not a dress) but so comfortable and stretchy in the best of ways. I’m wearing an XL skirt which is actually totally fine (not sure if a medium would be tight or not, TBH). I would style it totally differently (it needs some accessorizing for sure) but I think it’s very chic and cool.
A Great Button Up And Cargo Pants

Button-Up Shirt – $25 | Cargo Pants – $30 | Purse – $25 | Mules (not Target)
If you like boxy men’s-style button ups this is a great one (rounded in front, cute front pocket). Then while in the market for trouser pants (cargo counts) I tried on these, cuffed them and I was pretty darn happy. While I wore these exact pants in high school circa 1995, those front and side pockets were flattering then and are still flattering now.
A SHOCKINGLY Good Jumpsuit

Jumpsuit – $45 | Mules (not Target)
As you know the EHD team has always believed in jumpsuits (led by the jumpsuit queen Emily Bowser) but you guys this one is EXTRA GOOD (especially for being so affordable). The pattern makes it just so darn flattering (I find that some cling too much to my boobs and other areas where I prefer looseness. I’m not into a jumpsuit that’s trying to give me an hourglass shape). So I’ve been picky, opting for the more boxy/roomier jumpsuits (like Frank & Eileen, which is still my go-to but 5 times the price of this). This one is in collaboration with Future Collective and it is just so cute. It’s roomy but with a drawstring should you want to cinch her up. I was immediately sold and I’ve worn it many times both dressed up and down since I bought it.
Another Denim Shirt Dress – With Pockets!

Denim Dress – $32 | Sneakers (not Target)
I didn’t let myself buy this because I have a lot of these, but it’s a good one if you like the oversized denim shirt dress look. Just so easy to wear, with cute front pockets and side pockets (that don’t add bulk, which I appreciate). Also, those New Balances are the sneakers of the summer – at the airport yesterday I saw 5 women wearing them – FIVE. I mean, they are strangely flattering, cute, and graphic (not Target, obviously).
A Denim Jumpsuit

Denim Jumpsuit – $44 | Mules (not Target)
I know I JUST said that I don’t love jumpsuits that try to give you an hourglass figure (it’s antithetical to the utilitarian purpose of the workman suit), but this one had this nice blousy top portion that looked almost tucked into the waistband. I cuffed the legs because the legs were a bit overwhelming. I’ll be honest that I think this one would work better for ladies with more petite ladies. I liked it enough to show you, but I knew that I would opt for one of my roomier jumpsuits should I be in a jumpsuit mood so I skipped this one.
Another Great Linen Shirt/Short Set

Top – $25 | Shorts – $17 | Mules (not Target)
For beach, office, brunch – as long as it’s daytime or casual, sets like these win (I like them with flip flops, sneakers, slides, or a pointy heel, these mules are too basic for this outfit). It’s just good. The only reason I didn’t buy this top and bottom was because I preferred the pink/white stripe of the Old Navy boyfriend set sold here and here. But this pink and taupe set is super cute, too.
A YELLOW SUIT WHAT IS HAPPENING!!!!

Linen Blazer – $32 | Top – $18 | Shorts – $25 | Purse – $45 | Mules (not Target)
I literally laughed when I saw this set on the rack, saying out loud “Who wears a bright yellow suit??,” but I tried it on because the fabric felt nice. Then as I turned around to show Kaitlin and Gretchen how it looked and all of us were like, oh shit – YOU WEAR YELLOW!! Now, I do think it looks better on me with a spray tan (representing here) and I’d wear it with a more casual T-shirt, but I’m proud to say that I’m now the owner of a yellow summer suit!! Move Over, Kate Hudson!!??
Good High-Waisted Wide Leg Trousers

Shoulder Padded Tee (not Target) | Jeans – $46 | Mules (not Target)
Undeniably a great shape and a really thick denim which is nice to keep everything in place. These pants are kinda “sailor style” in fit. I loved how they looked, but knew that I wouldn’t wear them enough. The top is from Free People (Farm Rio) and perhaps I needed to size down in it because it’s a bit overwhelming (huge shoulder pads).
Clearly sets and jumpsuits are a thing this summer and we are absolutely here for it. Thanks, Target for delivering some dope outfits (and if you missed the same style try-on post from Old Navy head here).

A Fun Fast Post About Sweet New Spring Decor With Lots Of Random Shout Outs Including…HAPPY WORKAVERSARY GRETCHEN!!!!

Three things happened on the same day – Jess was in town looking at our second round of rug samples (WE LOVE THEM), we shot a social campaign with Anthropologie (I got to choose what would look good in my house and it was a lot of great stuff), and lastly it was Gretchen’s 1-year workaversary. So despite all of us going out the night before, AHEM, we had a nice lunch (although MAYBE Jess and Gretch stayed up later together and understandably didn’t feel like being on camera so it’s just me…LOL). Champagne was included because I’m an Enneagram 7 and can go hedonist really easily if it’s on/near the weekend (this is why I lock myself down during the week). It was also the day before a long vacation so my hedonist side won! Meanwhile, we had some vignettes set up for this social campaign and figured we’d do a fun post about what I love at Anthro right now, amongst other things. This blog post isn’t sponsored (they only partnered on stories), but the photos came out so cute that we thought it would be fun to show and tell.

Ginny Low Bowls | Morgan Wine Glasses | Morgan Stemless Wine Glasses | Bed Threads Scalloped Linen Placemats (color unavailable) | Napkins | Flatware | Cinched Scandi Vase (unavailable)
Here was our lunch, which was nothing fancy but certainly fancier than normal days. I already had everything except these pieces:
New stemless wine glasses – which have a nice flat and heavy-ish bottom and come in so many pretty colors. I almost got the teal, but then realized that I like to see what I’m drinking and how much I have left so I opted for the blush (no surprises there). The blue pasta plates – Now these are EXCELLENT salad plates (which is mostly what we ladies eat for lunch here) because they have a great lip but are still shallow (I do not like deep salad bowls as I don’t like the bottom lettuces to get soggy and yet “salad plates” are too small as we like to make giant salads).

We obviously kept it simple and I didn’t style it out much, again just using what we already had and clipping some branches. Not sure why I put two forks on there… perhaps I was trying to show off my 4-H skills from when I had to set the table in front of judges when I was 8??? (obvious fail with nary a spoon in sight).

I swear I had friends to to the left and in front of me!!!! I wasn’t eating, drinking, and laughing alone! I’m not a psychopath.

Jess’ hand for proof that I wasn’t alone. Also Happy Workaversary Gretch!!!!!!!! A year of so much fun, creativity, hard work, help, and REALLY GOOD TIMES. While we laugh a lot about how we overheard my son saying, “Oh, she’s my mom’s helper” when his friend asked, I do really need a lot of help!!! And you are a real pro at that (as well as having many other highly creative and skilled talents like graphic design, interior design, editing, storytelling, etc).
New Front Porch Pillows
Jute Scallop Pillow | Striped Ruffle Indoor/Outdoor Pillow | Throw Blanket | Planters | Rounded Dome Top Lanterns | Pillar Candles | Watering Can
I was extremely drawn to these ruffled striped pillows (they have them in red/pink which are sooooo fun). For outdoor pillows, they are extremely plush and mushy (in a good way, not too stiff). I mean, the scalloped sisal pillow is also very cute (but less comfy as you can imagine). You’ll see these float around my yard this summer.

Shout out to my Old navy oversized shirt (wearing a medium and loving it tied around my waist because it has the perfect thing drape), my awesome pull-on shorts, and platform New Balance sneakers The blanket is Sunbrella so ideal for outside.

I bought the lanterns last year from Terrain, with the huge candles from Pottery Barn (fun fact, they still have their plastic on them but since there is glass, too, I figured you can’t see the double reflection). Perhaps someday we’ll light those candles, but WHO KNOWS? The pots are from Rejuvenation, the wood swing is from Danish Design Store, watering can is from one of my local favorite stores JP General. OOH one more shout out to my local Dennis’ 7 Dees – non-spon, they just have great plants and they are so lovely.

In the bathroom, I styled out that cute pitcher with flowers (it’s a pretty small pitcher so I’m pretty sure its real purpose is flowers, IMHO). Big old shout out to SPRING!!!!!

Long-Sleeve Racing Stripes Top | Jean Shorts (similar)
My hair is looking admittedly really dreamy thanks to Alyssa Fitchie, I’m loving the messiness. The red sweater is from Anthro and the jean shorts from Madewell, last year.

I think Spring is the main winner here and making my job and life so much easier/better. Great team. Great day. Great new pretty things. Happy Friday, friends. And Happy Workaversary Gretch!!! Go over and see her first MOTO (MakeOver TakeOver) if you missed it!!!

One Month From Move-In Day – My Brother’s River House Update You’ve Been Asking For

Every time I walk into this house I think “My God, I love this house” and hopefully by June my brother and his family will be living there and enjoying a summer by the river (with ME…OBVIOUSLY). It’s been three years and a million lessons learned (and so much to share). So today I’m going to give you a little tour of where we are as of last week, with about 80% of it done and a heavy layer of color, pattern, and texture yet to come. I’ll try to refrain from piling on every bit of detail or disclaimer that has historically come so naturally to me, and just show you around, let you see for yourself.
The Entrance And Main Living Room/Kitchen
This whole area is quite the warm minimalist dream. Wood? Check. Tons of natural light? Check. Views of the river and trees? check. Jealous sister? Check. I love our house, SO MUCH and I wouldn’t actually trade it, but BOY when I walk into this house I feel the same calm that I do at the mountain house (obviously, that was the inspiration). Yes, of course, there are a lot of neutrals, blues, and greens with us bringing in much more color and pattern in furniture and decor (don’t worry). When you are in this house the light, wood, and the view are the big moments, with all the other materials supporting that and it’s an absolute dream. You walk in and see the green of the trees and the blue of the river (fine, gray on a cloudy day) and you are enveloped in stunning wood (shout out to Stuga on both the floor and the ceiling – more to come later but we are extremely happy with it).

It’s very true that the original inspiration for this home was what we all loved about living in the mountain house – the streamlined ease, the sense of openness and space, and the warmth without clutter. It’s just SO EASY to live there because of how we designed it. There are a few things that were non-negotiables for us that came directly from that house – the wood on the ceiling, the wood cabinets in the kitchen (no paint chips EVER), and the number of windows facing the right direction for the best light. Yes, it’s neutral which I fully recognize is not what is as popular right now (which is wonderful – it’s ALL wonderful) but we also know that a base of high-quality simplicity is easy to layer on the color and patterns du jour.

Annie Usher was the architect and she has full credit for how it’s laid out, where the rooms are, the window plan, etc. Of course, I was consulted but I was/am mostly involved in the interior design of the rooms that I’ve partnered up with. The ceiling plan, the door plan, the flow – all of that was Annie (huge thanks to Max Humphrey, too who weighed in heavily on this and much much more). I personally think it looks both modern yet interesting enough not to be cold or stark. Where she put the walls, windows, and fireplaces – it’s all part of an overall intention that really really works here.

There is so much wood and windows with views of the river, with an additional focal point of the fireplace in the most beautiful Ann Sacks Tile. Shout out to Max Humphrey for pushing us towards this tile – the dimension is just so subtle and beautiful. More to come next week on all things tiled fireplaces (I learned a ton).
We made a promise that we wouldn’t put any recessed lights where there was a wood ceiling (we broke that in a secret spot that you’ll barely notice) so as you can see we lit this room with these hanging shades from Rejuvenation (more to come on how challenging it was to find the exact fixtures that would do the job).

Now, you have to ignore all the dust and of course, picture that green stone (that as of now the rings have not come off but are so subtle that we might be fine with them).

This is the dining area, and there def might be some tweaks but the view out the window is soooooo dreamy (and in case you think that’s a dining bench, it’s not – lots to tell you).

Yes, it’s an entertainer’s dream, luckily Ken Starke has like 1,500 close friends! He is also a football coach so you know, a lot of open space for a lot of bros to bounce around.

Those doors go out to the patio that overlooks the river and the blue room is the home office/library/music room (with pocket doors).

This will be the last time you see the mudroom before its reveal (it’s ALMOST done) and will be one of the first rooms that we shoot this summer.

That green color (SW Rocky River) is so perfect and look how good it looks with the color in the family room (which I’m going to keep a secret because it’s my favorite in the whole house). Debating window treatments in the mudroom…

The hood will be tiled, obviously. The range is a dark green that I wish we could see more, actually, and there is a full pantry around the corner in case you were concerned about where they are going to put their food. Tile is the new Studio McGee for Ann Sacks line and it has so much beautiful movement.

What are we waiting on? Plumbers, tiler installers (kitchen grout isn’t in), electricians – all the subs that are on different jobs and getting them back to finish the little stuff is hard. We have a lot of loose ends and they all only want to come back once (and we have a couple of hiccups to solve, still so no one likes these TBD endings).

So much more to show you, and even more to tell you, obviously. Ken/Katie could move in soon if we could get the plumbers back to finish (and then a big old clean, more electrical to finalize – like those awesome Blueprint sconces that shouldn’t hang like that).

As a reminder, I was only a part of this project with the architect, Annie Usher, and my friend/co-interior designer Max Humphrey making a lot of decisions as well. I’m just the full documentarian of it all. While I feel a lot of ownership and pride over this project I definitely feel like it is a shared project up until this point. We are off to the races when it comes to furniture and decor which may have spurned the need for a line of furniture (finally)…

A Summer Project – The Barn Turned “Kids Summer Clubhouse”???

As many of you know, we have a lot of outbuildings on the property – each of which are competing for “most falling down” – most of them “tying for biggest winner”. We are equal parts grateful and daunted by the forever projects on this property (“neverending” is the word we use, sometimes with a positive inflection, sometimes less so). Each one is a mini-renovation. In fact, I got the quote back for the garages that I wrote about a couple of weeks ago and let’s just say the scope of that project has been cut down in 1/2 – AT LEAST. And yet each one is an opportunity to have some fun and increase the value of our property. This one, the barn, is by FAR the least amount of work and should be done in a matter of weeks. WAHOOOOOO!

The barn is back in the paddock, behind the “too-large sports court” (a different conversation for a different day), and has two sides – one for the animals and feed, the other side open for any possibility. We brought electricity over there when we redid EVERYTHING, but no plumbing.

It’s pretty darn cute and has potential, but no, it’s not in the best shape.

I had dreams of putting a colorful mural on the side of this barn (and still might on the front) but clearly, the beautiful paddock + animals are creating a lot of dirt and this will likely always be a magnet for mud in the rainy 6 months of the year. If you are wondering what those squares are on the ground, the last owners had a big skate ramp thing so I think they were part of the foundation for that.
What Will This Be Used For?
Crafts! Listening to music! Art, drawing, reading, utter unmonitored play. I have this dream that the kids just hang out here in the summer, don’t ask for screens, and have a revolving door of neighborhood kids to play with and develop perfect emotional social skills by solving their own problems and navigating each other’s emotions with maturity. Perhaps it will go Lord of the Flies or 3rd grade Mean Girls. So yes, they’ll solve their own problems, work through their own emotions, and make their own snacks. It writes itself!! (LOLOLOL-ING). But seriously, that is what I want – while we are working we might still have a high school babysitter to give them a tiny bit of structure or take them to the library or a big pool. But outside of a couple of camps and some time in Arrowhead, I want this to be where the kids feel free with their friends and keep their mess away from the house.
The Inside Of The Kids Summer Clubhouse
As you can see there is a lot of potential. Here is what we are planning:
The Window: The big low window you see on the left is in really bad condition so we are going to replace that with a bigger one (standard size, vinyl since it’s the back of the barn, not visible from the house). It will slide open so they can pet or feed the animals if they want and have a breeze on warmer days. However, it will be high enough so that the dogs can’t jump into the pasture if they wanted to. The other two windows are fine so we’ll leave them. Insulation and Paneling: While I wanted to be cheap and just do drywall and orange peel spray, everyone agrees that for a few hundred more, shiplap will be way more appropriate for a barn. I’m not going to worry about the seams though – we’ll leave it pretty rustic (and may stain or paint, not sure). If I’d have to guess right now I’d love just simple pine boards… Basic Electrical: An overhead light fixture, a new sconce, and some outlets/switches. That’s it. No air conditioning, but small cadets or mini splits for the cooler months: The barn stays very very cool even on the hottest days (completely in the shade) so no AC is needed. We’ll keep the OG barn wood flooring: We’ll likely sand it to get rid of splinters and then stain/seal it all.
As you can see we put a ton of crafts out here last summer and the kids definitely went out there but we weren’t fully set up and without systems there is chaos. Brian booked them in more camps last summer than we plan on this year so now is the time to get this baby ready for kids.

Obviously, this space could turn into almost anything if my plan doesn’t work – office, workout space, kids projector TV den (I could see us having sleepovers out there this summer), or maybe a yoga/meditation space in the future. I don’t know one parent who doesn’t struggle with the amount of screen time their kids want and even more importantly, the question of what media they are allowed to watch/play?? It’s SO HARD. If they could have their way Charlie would play video games from sunrise to sunset and Elliot would watch 5-minute crafts on YouTube til her eyes bleed. So I guess my hope is that with a detached space like this (and some very firm boundaries around video games/YouTube) we won’t battle all summer long. Obviously, I’m going to involve them in the design of parts of it…So…I hope you all like purple and lime green!!!! (JK).

Is *This* The New “Modern Farmhouse”? The Happy, Warm & Inviting Trend Arlyn Is Seriously Crushing On

I know I’m about to make a bold statement here but we’re amongst friends, right? I can be bold? I’m really quite smitten with a new style for me and claiming it’s the new Modern Farmhouse. Now, I’m not saying it’s so trendy that it *is* replacing the ever-popular shiplap-clad suburban favorite, but what I am implying is that it *should* steal its crown.
Before I tell you what it’s called, let me back up just a minute (mostly, I’m buying myself time…you’ll see why):
An inconvenient thing happens when you’re as obsessed with interior design as most of us around these parts: you fall in love with many styles. I say inconvenient because well…I only have one place to live and a wild mish-mash of styles in the same 1,500 square feet of my home isn’t my vibe. Can you imagine me explaining my design inspiration to any guests who ask: “I was going for the perfect marriage of English grandmother who lived in the mid-century—in a cottage in the country—who time traveled to modern-day Milan who also really loved color but liked things soothing and peaceful but also was after a touch of Victorian baby.” Maybe someone could make that work, but not me.
Now, as someone who is design polyamorous, I often make the mental jump to hypothetically decorating my rooms every time I fall in love with a new aesthetic. And I’m at it again but dare I say, I think this one has the potential to really stick for me in my current stage of life as a mother, homebody, writer, and wanna-be-entertainer. Except, here’s the thing…it doesn’t quite have a name and I’m not entirely sure what to call the style.

This project by Jessica Helgerson Interior Design (photography by Aaron Leitz) is a beautiful representation of this style I think is about to come to the forefront of design. It’s so rich, warm, and lasting. It doesn’t feel like “fast home fashion”…but rather that it’ll be a time capsule (in a good way) for decades to come.

This “new” Modern Farmhouse is one part mid-century modern but without the retro vibes; one part contemporary without being trendy. It’s just the right amount of colorful, interesting, and eclectic while also being calm and welcoming. It’s not overly precious (a.k.a family-friendly) and feels like a beach vacation but without the heavy-handed coastal or weathered look. It places you in Melbourne, Australia, but also maybe Copenhagen but also the Pacific Northwest, with just a hint of “Is it IKEA?” Maybe a name for this look already exists, but I haven’t quite found it yet, so for the sake of this article, I’m going to call it….drumroll please… Warm Modern Beach Bungalow (or WMBB for short).
If you know anything about my personal design aesthetic, I’m not sure you’d leap this being where my head is going. Perhaps it’s in response to the overload of cottage core/English country with lots of muted colors we’ve all been seeing everywhere. You can’t swipe a thumb on a social media account without getting smacked in the eyeballs with the design style. While I do still find it so beautiful and charming, I’m ready for a palate cleanser of sorts, and perhaps this is it. Plus, if the unexpected red theory taught us anything, people are ready and open to receive…gasp…primary colors.
I. Am. Here. For. It.

Rather than keep flapping my proverbial lips, why don’t I get into some specifics? Here, I’m going to break down the five key elements that make up the Warm Modern Beach Bungalow aesthetic, and why the look has captivated me so thoroughly.
#1: Neutral Wood Paneling on the Walls & Ceiling (& Everywhere)White painted shiplap is to Modern Farmhouse what natural, neutral wood paneling is to Warm Modern Beach Bungalow. It’s the crux of this style. There’s wood, and there’s lots of it. It’s up, it’s down, it’s side to side. And I’m not talking about the kind of wood paneling that was the darling of ’60s and ’70s tract homes (goodness, no). This isn’t heavy but rather light yet warm. It’s not blonde wood as we see regularly used in Scandinavian styles or even casual California aesthetics, but it’s not as deep as walnut like you might have found in mid-century modern homes. A lot of the photos I earmarked have wood with either slight red or yellow undertones, leading me to believe it’s oak, but the stain is neutral enough that it won’t feel like a time capsule of a specific era.
The downside of a style rich in wood surfaces is, of course, it’s not easy or inexpensive to change if you’re looking for something fresh down the line. It’s not friendly to the gallery wall lover (the holes!), either, and while yes, I said this style is family-friendly, I shudder to think what would happen with a toddler and a rogue marker.

Regardless of these limitations, it’s undeniably beautiful and inviting. Take, for instance, the above photo (slide 1) from The Design Files. This is a bit darker and more “cabin” than “beach” to me, but it holds the essence of WMBB, nicely. Wood, vast expanse of windows, contemporary upholstery, simple color blocks. I can just envision myself doing a stack of puzzles with my daughter on that coffee table, watching the birds fly around outside, not at all worried about a roaring flame right next to us and my girl’s curious little fingers.

Another Australian beauty above by architecture firm Clare Cousins. It feels so peaceful to me. Simplicity without starkness. Even a littering of toys on the floor probably couldn’t shake the stillness in here, and boy what I wouldn’t give for that kind of visual peace.
View this post on InstagramA post shared by Inside Out (@insideoutmag)
Can’t you just feel that dusty, kind of annoying grit of having sand stuck between your toes looking at this image from Inside Out Magazine? But in all seriousness, that is the worst, and this beautiful home is the opposite of that. But the wood wrapping this dining nook imparts a gravitas that a paint color or wallpaper could never.
View this post on InstagramA post shared by The Design Files (@thedesignfiles)
This is either a look loved by Australians (I know Aussie readers are out there…any truth to this?) or editors of The Design Files have the same crush I do because it’s so often found in their gorgeous home features. This one isn’t quite WMBB but the paneling throughout makes the place feel like it’s glowy, and that, at the very least, puts the “warm” in warm modern beach bungalow.
#2: Bold, Primary ColorsYou heard it here early (not first, because I know other people have talked about it): primary colors are having a huge moment. And no, I’m not just talking about red. Clear, bright, saturated blue, and yellow are also powerful primaries making a name for themselves in this century. In warm modern beach bungalow, they’re typically balanced by white or wood. In a digital world dominated by images of rooms absolutely sprouting with pattern, WMBB’s penchant for being able to deliver life and personality without all the hullabaloo is very attractive to me right now.
View this post on InstagramA post shared by domino (@dominomag)
This kitchen by Mel Architect has reached the far corners of the internet and also my heart and soul, and I don’t think it would have had the impact it has had in design circles if it weren’t for that red door, beam, and accents. It’s like a siren call: draws you in and makes it hard to release oneself from its alluring grasp.
View this post on InstagramA post shared by Nina Freudenberger (@ninafreudenberger)
Okay, I’ll admit this room—from Nina Freudenberger’s book Bibliostyle—is way more mid-century modern than the modern WMBB is going for, and especially Mondrian-esque in its color story (the first slide). But I’m sharing it because hopefully you can take a step back, look at it, and it’ll do for you what it did for me: make me smile. There is a swift punch you get with the use of solid, bold colors, rather than a ton of pattern, and I’m really, really starting to dig it.
View this post on InstagramA post shared by EMPTY WALL (@emptywall.store)
Between the amount of white and the concrete floors, I may jump to call this a bit cold, but the sharp red and blue in the art and furniture leave it more in the happy, friendly camp for me. Plus, the wood railing does a lot in a subtle way for balancing all the contemporary materials.
View this post on InstagramA post shared by LAUN (@launlosangeles)
I am very fond lately of the creamy, butteriness of a color like this, especially as a backdrop to a deeper yellow and some pops of blue. I think it only works well (and doesn’t read “depressing accounting office”) when the natural light is warm and abundant.
View this post on InstagramA post shared by Schoolhouse (@schoolhouse)
It doesn’t have to be super potent, either. Solid red and (maybe it’s pink?) yellow pillows do a lot for a mostly neutral room.
#3: Subtle StylingAs much as I love the highly decorative rooms of the English cottage style that encompasses half (or more) of my saved folder on Instagram, they feel like they’re magnets for dust. This warm modern beach bungalow vibe feels so clean (and easy to clean). Like nary a dust bunny exists in any corner, or under any furniture. Wiping down surfaces would only require moving a vase or two, rather than 12 objects, 6 wicker baskets, and 4 decorative brooms hanging from the peg rails. It elicits simplicity but a strong sense of style all at the same time, a heavy weight carried by #1 and #2 (abundant wood paneling and the strategic use of primary colors…for anyone skimming or not paying attention).
View this post on InstagramA post shared by Inside Out (@insideoutmag)
It’s not easy to pull off a contemporary kitchen that also feels approachable, friendly, and rooted, but this one, by Mel Wilson, absolutely does (in fact the whole home, minus a rug or two, tbh, feels very warm modern beach bungalow and I wish I could move in straight away).
View this post on InstagramA post shared by GardinerArchitects (@gardinerarchitects)
There’s barely anything “styling” this photo (though I’m sure a lot more went into it than meets the eye, of course). It’s a large plant in a simple planter, two baskets, a rug, and some (perfectly placed) toys, and it doesn’t need anything else. It doesn’t need a cushion in a patterned fabric. It doesn’t need a gallery wall. It doesn’t need stacks of coffee table books with candelabras on top. It feels like a breath of fresh air in how little it needs.
#4: Floor-to-Ceiling ShelvingAny style that consistently has books as a key component of its design is one that will always make me very happy. Considering I still have at least 10 boxes in my garage full of books from when I moved last year (I have nowhere to store them in the new place), I dream of a day when I can implement Project Floor to Ceiling Shelving in a home. And omg…a ladder? CAN YOU IMAGINE? I love having books of all sorts (yup, even including my toddler’s board books) as part of the life of every space.
View this post on InstagramA post shared by And And And Studio | Architecture & Interior Design (@andandandstudio)
I love the openness of this built-in shelving unit. And while yes, the shelving-unit-with-no-back is decidedly a mid-century modern design move, it also has a place in warm modern beach bungalow because well, the “modern” in WMBB is birthed from MCM.
View this post on InstagramA post shared by Starling Architecture (@starlingarchitecture)
An important thing to note is that the books have to feel actually collected by the homeowner. Not just pretty spines used for the sake of stacking to throw a vase atop (as I have been guilty of doing plenty of times for a pretty photo). The cookbooks need splashes of marinara between the pages; the paperbacks need spines bent so many times, that the title is almost not readable. And the trophy books that take pride of place cover-out (rather than spine-out) need to mean something.
View this post on InstagramA post shared by Another Studio (@anotherstudio.dk)
View this post on InstagramA post shared by The Modern House (@themodernhouse)
The shelves don’t even necessarily have to be all-encompassing. They can even be a sliver like in this sweet family-friendly nook of a home in east London by Emil Eve Architects.
View this post on InstagramA post shared by domino (@dominomag)
And boy do I love bookshelves that just have books on them. No trinkets, no boxes, no styling hacks. Just books, and lots of them like the ones in this room from a home featured in Domino.
#5: Built-In Storage or Reading NooksThis point here is an offshoot of the bookshelves, but it seems to be paramount to a warm modern beach bungalow. I suppose it also goes hand in hand with the wood paneling from point #1, but it’s different enough to include as its own key element.
View this post on InstagramA post shared by Studio Shamshiri (@studioshamshiri)
When you have books and books and more books everywhere, you of course need an amazing book bunker to read them all. I could see my daughter climbing up in here and reading stacks of Eric Carle for hours. Is this not every kid’s (and adult’s) dream space? The chandelier Studio Shamshiri used here doesn’t exactly peg WMBB but…that’s not her style anyway and likely not her intention.
View this post on InstagramA post shared by And And And Studio | Architecture & Interior Design (@andandandstudio)
Houses built up into the hillsides of LA’s Silver Lake neighborhood aren’t really what I like to call family-oriented (no backyard, steep driveways and stairs up to the front door) but in this living room above, with it’s paneling-backed shelves and ledge, I can picture a very cool family gathered on that sectional. You know, the kind of family that would be cast in CW drama, but this is the home of the nice yet stylish kid that knows all the other kids are making a huge mistake not involving actual adults in their predicaments (but for real, where are all the freaking adults in those shows and why are they always the worst people?!?).
View this post on InstagramA post shared by Nina Freudenberger (@ninafreudenberger)
Another spot to lean back and read a book perhaps? Is this whole style crush of mine revolving around the fact that maybe I just want a quiet place to read a friggin’ book without my phone buzzing or my husband asking me something or my daughter running to me to kiss a boo-boo (no please, don’t EVER let that stop). But all my personal things aside, these custom details make these homes feel so special and unique to the people living in them. To me, at least.
In summary: Clean – check. Warm and friendly – check. Some color but not enough to overwhelm the senses – check. It’s kind of everything I never thought I’d want for myself, as a lover of maximalism, but sometimes even the bakery owner tires of cake, you know? It really feels like the style of home I could happily live at peace in while exploring my love of other aesthetics safely and without fear of becoming cloying.
Thoughts? Questions? Concerns? Leave them at the door, please…I can’t be bothered in my new wood-clad, primary-colored reading nook. (Kidding, I’d love to know your thoughts, and you know our comment section is waiting to hear from you.)
Until next time…

The Mother’s Day Post We Needed/Wanted! Real Mom Requests To Guarantee Gifting Success:)

This Monday is all about mothers (and grandmothers and people who are like mothers to us). I know this may feel a little early, and in full disclosure, it was meant for the end of the week but we needed to do a last-minute swap (only for exciting reasons I promise:)), BUT how good would it feel to know what you wanted to do or get for your mom this year a couple weeks ahead of time? Let me tell you, GREAT. So like we did a few years ago, we wanted to get the real low down on what moms actually wanted So we hit up Instagram for some suggestions. As you will soon see it was an incredible and thorough list but with a ton of overlap (obviously). But in case you want those “GUARANTEED WINNERS” up top here you go:
All the quality time things (family time, dinner at home, etc.)Reduce her to-do list things (Groupon + TaskRabbit or you!)Time Alone (most requested!)Nails, Massage, and or Facial Classes and Activities (you know what she’ll like but a list of ideas is at the end)Ok, let’s talk some more details…
All Things Quality Family Time

Groupon: Moms asked for car detailing, nails, massages, and more so Groupon is a GREAT place to find great deals on these kinds of services.
TaskRabbit: If you don’t have the time, bandwidth, or skill to help clean the house or finish a project then hiring a TaskRabbit is the way to go! Lots on moms asked for this, FYI.

1. Hori Hori Knife: A gardener’s essential tool – this one can hori hori saw, dig, cut, and more.
2. Foldable Gardening Seat: An easy-to-move garden bench makes laborious tasks far more comfortable. This one comes with tools and a removable tote bag, too.
3. Stand Up Weed Puller: Make her least-favorite task a bit more manageable. (PS. If your maternal figure loves a good manicure, she’ll be thrilled about this one.)
4. Lightweight Flexi Hose: These are SO GOOD. Winding a heavy, damp, kinked rubber tube (read: a standard hose) into an aesthetically-pleasing coil is a nightmare. This flexible, lightweight alternative takes up no space AND it can stretch up to 150 feet. It’s devastating that it took us so long to come up with this idea!
5. Garden Pruners: A good gift for gardeners or for floral arrangers alike. (What stylist isn’t carrying around a pair of pruners, ready to clip any errant branch?)
6. Deep Seat Garden Kneeler: Tried and true! Padded knee support, higher arms that can help you stand back up (essential!), it can be flipped and used as a stool, AND it folds flat for storage.

1. Antiqued Copper Birdbath: If the ornamental birdbaths of yore aren’t up their alley, surprise them with a minimalist, modern option.
2. Steel Rose Arbor: This arbor looks SO MUCH more chic than its $43 price tag. (Dare I say it’s Athena Calderone-esque?)
3. Wooden Greenhouse: Give her next seedlings a growth advantage with this bright, sweet, and study piece.
4. Arched Wood Arbor: Mark an entrance or build a special sitting place in the garden with this simple, classic, all-wood arbor. Maybe you could even build a bean arch, a la Joe Pera! (Niche, but some of you will REALLY get it.)
5. Metal Greenhouse: A sweet greenhouse with a petite, easy-to-move profile.
6. Concrete Sundial Birdbath: Pop this in a tree and save yard space for more important things, like “seating” or “loved ones.”

1. Lomi Composter: “I’m in love” and “I use it every other day, if not more” are just two of the glowing reviews we’ve published here. The Lomi’s counter-friendly size makes composting a breeze. Bowser has one and LOVES it too.
2. Mill Food Recycler: If your mom has a bit more space, try out a Mill Food Recycler. It holds up to 40 pounds (!!!) of product, so it doesn’t need to be tended daily, and – get this – you can rent one for under $50 a month. Perfect to test it out.

But maybe you also know your plants and can pick up some plants for your mom! There were also a few requests for BIG plants like trees:)

1. UrbanStems: Great flexibility here – you can prepay for a certain number of shipments (weekly, biweekly, or monthly – your choice!). If you’re the type to forget about subscriptions, this is a great choice.
2. Bouqs: Caitlin has it and LOVES IT. Blooms ship with a few buds mixed and her arrangements have lasted for weeks. (She’s on day 19 of my most recent bouquet!) They’re the best value, too.
3. Farmgirl Flowers: These are a little pricier (starting at $59 for a one-sided bouquet!) but they are VERY beautiful. If mom is really into floral design, this would be a good pick.

1. Golf Bag with Stand: This Callaway bag – complete with a stand, for those who prefer to schlep across courses – is a great, beginner-friendly option. It’s been my dad’s go-to brand for years (it is a classic after all)
2. Golf Shoes: CUTE and another Les Bunge rec (and you know the man loves shoes). If she’s walking 9 holes on the course, make sure she’s comfortable while doing it! These are cute enough to grab some drinks in afterwards, too. Thanks to my dad and this follower for asking!

1. Drunk Elephant: One follower specifically asked for this brand so it’s going on the list! This set of six travel-sized products lets her sample the best from the internet’s most viral skincare brand. But if you know she loves it, maybe grab a full-size of something.
2. Shani Darden: I will never stop singing the praises of Shani Darden. Aesticitian to the stars that also created an award-winning skincare brand. I’ve been using this brand for almost 4 years now and I still love it just as much. This starter kit would be an incredible gift.
3. Versed: For a far more affordable option, this brand has gotten so many rave reviews. Even Arlyn herself! (The gel cream and rich cream are must-tries for any lovers of a good moisturizer!)

1. At-home Sauna: When a mom requested an at-home sauna I immediately knew I had one to recommend! My dad has had this one for 4 months now and really loves it. It is a big splurge but a GOOD gift if it’s in your budget.
2. Foot Massager: Any desk job or boring, stationary task is made A MILLION times better by a heated foot massage. (Companies do a grave disservice when they shoot photographs of these in a living room. They belong under your workstation! Trust us!)

SOOOO many requests for all of these! It may not seem wildly creative but it’s NO FAIL gift that anyone would be over the moon about. Unless you know your mom isn’t a fan. Couldn’t be me:)

1. Makeup Refresh: Loved this request! A Sephora, Credo, or Ulta gift card is NEVER a bad call for the beauty guru in your life. (Bonus points: get a physical gift card, tack on a fun brunch, and turn it into a girl’s day!)
2. Nikki La Rose Brush Set: This 7-piece set is topping one reader’s wishlist (and with near-perfect 5-star reviews, it’s easy to see why!).

1. Le Labo Perfume: This was specially requested and for good reason. It’s a classic and luxurious for sure. For even more fun, head out together to smell them in person. FYI each bottle is personalizable if you order through their site or get it in-store!
2. Aesop Hand Wash: Once you’ve tried it, you get how soap (or, I’m sorry, wash) can be worth $43. Moisturizing without stripping, beautiful scents, nice lather…it’s a thoughtful upgrade of an everyday essential.

1. Reformation Dress: One thing EHD moms have in common? Reformation is topping their Mother’s Day wishlist. If she has an event coming up, why don’t you let her pick out something nice?
2. Cheery Bucket Hat: Same vein. If you have any vacations coming up, a thoughtful gift – like this sweet sunhat, to protect their noggin’ from harmful rays – will be well-appreciated. This one was a great aks.
3. Target Dress: As seen here, on all 5 of us. (It works on everyone, seriously.)

1. Waterproof Layering Necklace: A follower specifically wanted a waterproof layering necklace and I’ve got them! I can attest to this brand, Hey Harper, because I am wearing one of their necklaces now and over the past 2+ years have taken it off maybe 6 times and it still looks brand new. 10/10
2. : This was a follower’s request and boy do I love it! It’s not inexpensive but what a chic way to have your kid’s name on a piece of jewelry.
3. MCM Gold Jewelry Box: If your mom has jewelry she loves and not a great place to put it get her a great jewelry box! I love this MCM version a lot because it’s so versatile (and pretty:))
4. Extra Large Jewelry Box: Another awesome and more modern option that’s big! I think it looks very cool.
5. Jewelry with Kids’ Initials or Names: So sweet and beloved by most if not all moms. You can choose to go for initials (great if they have more than one kid) or go big and spell out the full name!
6. Gold Hoops: Who doesn’t love a classic gold hoop?! We know our moms do and want a pair.

1. Agathe Bracelet: When I looked up this bracelet via a follower’s request I thought, “OOOOO yea!” It’s cool, chunky, and so so chic.
2. Mariko Bracelet: Another follower asked for dainty gold bracelets and I just think this little layered number is perfect.
3. Charm Bracelet: Moms want charm bracelets from Clare V and it’s clear why. They are fun and cool and personal. Win-win-win.

1. Coach Bag: Coach is back in a big way and the moms are in the know! This one is very cool but I’m sure any one of them will do. Ha.
2. Messenger Bag: A Clare V bag was very popular on this call out (which I completely get) so this bag is beautiful, is larger than the Grande Fanny, and Arlyn just got one and loves it so much!
3. Dragon Diffusion Bag: I might be living under a rock but I hadn’t heard of this brand, but the bags are beautiful and the moms want one!
4. Fanny Pack: Obviously, I had to include the Grande Fanny because it’s also soooo good. Emily has one, I have one, and many of my friends have one. It curves so nicely to your body and all of them will instantly make an outfit more exciting.
5. Leather Wallet: A nice leather wallet feels so nice to have, right?! So if you see that your mom could use an upgrade we love this one from Madewell.
6. Bucket Tote: This bucket tote is super chic, modern, and can hold a good amount of loot.

1. New Balance Sneakers: The moms want New Balances and we can’t recommend these ones enough. Every time I see Emily in them I want them bad. But one mom mentioned she wanted to match her New Balances with her kids which I thought was so sweet:) Another idea!
2. Red Flats: We got requests for comfortable flats, flats for wide feet, red flats, and Rothy’s flats. So when I realized that these Rothy’s Mary Janes checked off every box I clearly had to include them. I’ve never been much of a Rothy’s gal myself but I’ve been seeing these on social media and I think they are SO cute.
3. Bryr Clog: A follower rec I am both happy and sad to know about because how cute are these?! They carry a bunch of styles but clogs were specifically requested.
Honorable Mention: Birkenstock Sandals – A few requests for these all-stars and this is Em’s favorite style!

1. Silk Pillowcase + Mask Set: This is such a great and affordable silk sleep set! It has everything your mom could want to keep her hair and face very happy while she sleeps.
2. Cozy PJs (Top + Bottom): These are Emily’s FAVORITE and most comfortable pajamas and they are affordable! A new set of PJs for your mom would be such a thoughtful and cozy gift. To see others Em reviewed. Head here!

1. Robe: Robes are another great gift if your mom needs one or could use a new one. Emily found this one for a shoot and has vowed to buy it as a gift for all of her friends. If that isn’t convincing, I don’t know what is.
2. Slippers: Caitlin and Emily have been raving about these for years because they are simply the most comfortable. These won’t be a miss, we promise!

1. Family Photo Shoot: Emily is lucky in that she tends to have a few family photoshoots a year but for most moms that isn’t the case. But your mom loves you and wants to show off her beautiful family! Setting up a family photo shoot would mean the world to her (I know this because a lot of moms said so).
2. Mom and Kid(s) Family Photo Album or Book: OK, maybe you have the photos but they aren’t in one, physical place. A lot of moms also asked for photo books! These can be done online (we linked our favorite place) or you can print out photos and make an old-school one:)

1. Baggu Pop Up Tent: I didn’t know Baggu made these cute pop up tents until a mom requested it! There aren’t many cute ones on the market so these are a treat for those picnics and beach days.
2. Charleston Water Resistant Indoor/Outdoor Throw: Another “new to me” product that appears to be the ideal outdoor blanket. Perfect for a mom who loves being cozy outside.
3. Cute Hammock: If your mom wants a hammock then this is SUCH a cute and good one. Emily agrees with that too (has there ever been a more “Emily Henderson” hammock print?? :))

1. Ember Travel Mug: The only thing better than an Ember mug? An Ember Mug you can take with you. (Read Em’s original review here – it’s the best heated mug on the market.)
2. Tiled Anthro Mug: This is, by far, the most luxe-looking “mom”-branded apparel on the market. (They also have one for “Dad” and “Mum,” in case you’re looking to gift a set.)
3. Miir Travel Mug: This brand was new to us but also requested! Love the simple, modern lines and it comes in a bunch of other styles and colors.

1. Rocketbook Planner: By reader request – the only planner she’ll need for the rest of her life. This Rocketbook instantly sends scans of your writing to the platform of your choice, so she’ll always know what’s going on.
2. Brass Bullet Pen: A good pen really is so enjoyable, don’t you think? Well, that’s what a couple of moms said. This one gets rave reviews from left-handers and right-handers alike.

1. Staub Dutch Oven: Full disclosure – these are both reader requests. If you’re a Staub household, this would be a great option.
2. Le Creuset Dutch Oven: And if you’re a Le Creuset household….you know what to do. (PS. If you’re lucky enough to live by a Le Creuset outlet, the savings are worth the trek. Oh, and stock up on these wine sleeves while you’re there – they’re useful and they make great gifts.)

1. KitchenAid Mixer: If your maternal figure loves to cook or bake and doesn’t have a KitchenAid, there’s a high chance that she’s waiting for someone to get her one!
2. Ice Cream Maker: I mean…we all love a sweet treat, right? And it’s even better when you can make one at home, custom-suited to your tastes and dietary preferences. Mom requested!
3. Ooni Pizza Oven: This was a reader request, and it’s a good one. Have you ever used one of these? THEY’RE A BLAST. If your mom loves to cook or host, this will bring so much joy (and pizza) to your home.
4. Breville Cold-Press Juicer: This isn’t any old juicer – this is the high-end, fancy espresso-machine version of a juicer. Extraordinarily powerful, easy to use, and a breeze to clean. It’s a little splurgy, but she’ll use it for the rest of her life.

1. Design Commune: If she loves California style, you can’t go wrong with this one – the spaces feature beautiful woods, layered textiles, and that little je ne sais quoi for which Commune is famed.
2. The Interior Design Handbook: A must-own for any design lover – it seemingly contains an answer to every decorating, furnishing, and styling conundrum in only 240 pages. (And at $17, the price is right!)
3. Every Room Should Sing: Beata’s style is so fresh and vibrant – there’s something for every maternal figure to enjoy in here.

As one would expect from followers of a designer, lots of home decor was requested. Some were specific like a Noguchi lamp or a vintage store box, while others just said “art” or “gift card to my favorite small shop”. I would recommend for art to look at Uprise Art, Tappan, Saatchi Art, Etsy, and Chairish. For other smalls (and more), we also love shops like Jayson Home. But of course, if you can support a local shop that your mom loves do that!

1. Water Rower: Caitlin has a water rower! There’s nothing better than a seated cardio workout that hits every muscle. The relaxing sound it makes doesn’t hurt, either. (PS. Here’s an option under $500!)
2. Peleton Bike: Your mom! She wants to take classes with Cody! She told us! (This was actually a reader recommendation, FYI.)
3. Oura Ring: All of the data, none of the bulk. Tracks steps, sleep, temperature, and WAY more with this simple, easy-to-wear band. (PS. It comes in a variety of finishes, including gold, rose gold, titanium, silver, and more.)

1. Carry-On Suitcase: You know what isn’t fun? Researching “high-quality suitcases” when you could be doing literally anything else. This one gets top marks, holds a week’s worth of travel essentials, and it’s PRETTY to boot!
2. Car Organizer: A must-have for any of the on-the-go types out there – the handles on the edge make this one easy to bring inside for any unloading, too. The actual request was a “cute care organizer” and I think this one wins!
As promised here are some ideas for classes or activities if you know your mom would prefer it! These all came from the moms:)
Sewing ClassRock Climbing ClassWhale WatchingBallet TicketsMovie TicketsThat was A LOT but we truly hope that you got an idea or found something perfect for your mom or maternal figure. Parents deserve all the love they can get so even if it’s just a nice long phone call, make sure they feel loved. Actually, GO CALL YOUR MOM NOW (if you are lucky enough to be able to. I know I wish I could<3)!
Also A HUGE thanks to Miss Caitlin Higgins for being my co-writer on this post!!
Love you, mean it.

The Link Up: Em’s Viral “Liquid Glass” Face Mask, Arlyn’s Heavenly Recipe, And Our New Favorite Mirror

Happy Sunday everyone! We had a BIG design week in Portland for some exciting things coming up (sorry to be a tease but we just want you to know THINGS ARE HAPPENING!) Aside from that we are patiently awaiting getting to be in Mexico for a few days together. Yes, Emily is the best boss and really knows how to pick a place for brainstorming. 22 days and for sure not counting:) Links?? Let’s go!
This week’s house tour is one we’ve been talking about all week! Our beloved Pierce & Ward designed Emma Roberts house and it’s a cozy, warm, layered space. How do you all feel about it??
From Emily: I finally tried the viral face mask that “makes your face look like liquid glass”. After traveling (where I do NOT stick to my routine and my face gets so dry and angry) I came home and looked in the mirror and apologized hard to my skin. So I put on the mask which you are supposed to wear for 3-4 hours minimum (best overnight). I went to be in it and pulled it off 1/2 way through the night (it bugged me while sleeping) but y’all, my skin was so bouncy and full (in a good way). EXTREMELY moisturizing. Two days later my skin is still very happy, so it’s definitely in my Sunday repertoire now (and will likely just do it while I’m cleaning the house or watching something as sleeping overnight in it wasn’t my jam).
From Mallory: A friend of a friend started an electric wine opener company called Vin Fresco so I decided to try it out and MAN why have I not had one of these bad boys sooner??? Gone are the days when you accidentally stab yourself with a wine opener because this thing makes opening wine so insanely easy. You literally push a button and the cork comes right out without the MMA fight that is normally you versus the cork. I have it in black but it comes in a lot of other fun colors too. A great Mother’s Day gift if I do say so myself…

PSA: This week, our friends at Bluepoint Lighting are holding a massive 25% off sale/fundraiser with 100% of profits going to the Environmental Defense Fund! Isn’t that INCREDIBLE? The sale kicks off on Wednesday and runs through Friday (details here) and it’s an awesome opportunity to grab some show-stopping lighting while doing good for the earth. We’re especially partial to this floral-inspired sconce, this chic industrial sconce (the chain! So cool!), this gorgeous, organic modern pendant, and these unbelievably cool sconces, inspired by mid-century French design. We actually used one of these fixtures in the River House – any guesses as to which one?
From Jess: I think I can say that this will be my last hair product rec for at least a few weeks. But it’s all that I’m buying right now! Ok, are you a fine-haired person like myself? Well, apparently certain oils are better for different-sized hair follicles which, of course, makes sense. I was using an inexpensive one that I liked but was leaving my scalp a little itchy. So then I was recommended this one from Fable & Mane that I bought during the Sephora Sale. I was told it’s better for fine hair and so far no itchiness! It could all be marketing (of which I’m a sucker for) but I did see a friend last weekend who I hadn’t seen in months, if not a year, and unprompted she asked what I was doing with my hair because it looked a lot thicker! Now that it’s officially been three months I feel like I’m really seeing a difference:)
From Caitlin: I’m sorry – is this the world’s cutest summer jumpsuit, or is it just me? (PSST. Check the reviews – it’s not just me.) I thought this would be kind of boxy or shapeless or that the bow up top would add a little too much volume, but guys…it’s SO FREAKIN’ CUTE, and it’s surprisingly kind of flattering on! I’m obsessed with the cheery gingham print, but could imagine that those who prefer neutrals could rock the black version year-round. I got an XL and found it to be a little big around my midsection (not complaining – it’s like built-in air conditioning, TBH) but perfectly sized around my chest, hips, and thighs. Grabbed it a few weeks ago and I can’t wait to wear it for July 4th this year!!!

Topia Mantel Mirror | Topia Floor Mirror
Ginny (the OG EHD alum) has two new mirrors with Lulu and Georgia and they are as awesome as you’d expect! It comes in a wall or mantle size and both come in black or natural wood tones.
From Arlyn: Have you ever had an arepa? Or rather, have you ever *made* an arepa? OMG IT’S ABSOLUTELY HEAVEN. While I typically leave the arepa goodness to my local Venezuelan eatery that I frequent, I decided to try my hand at a new version (I make them often-ish at home just not with so many bells and whistles). This recipe for an arepa “reina papiada” was super easy and outrageously tasty. It’s basically shredded chicken breast (you can buy rotisserie which makes it even faster), mayo, lime, onion, cilantro, and avocado stuffed inside a savory corn pocket and it’ll make you so happy, I promise.
From Gretchen: A couple weeks ago I ran into Target and two things happened. 1) I found a super cute new dress! I like the way it hangs, roomy and not clinging to any part of me, with a really nice structure thanks to the cotton-poplin material. The shoulders are cute, I love the deeper v-neckline and the skirt is fun and girly. All things I had to discover once I got home because… 2) Target’s power went out while I was in the dressing room. Suddenly, I was half naked in total darkness, unable to see even my hand out in front of me, let alone the dress! After feeling my way around for my phone’s flashlight, I threw my shirt on (inside-out), gathered up what I hoped were some cute looks, and made my way to the register, which was thankfully running on their backup generator. All this to say, I took a gamble on the dress and I’m really glad I did!
Thanks for stopping by and see ya tomorrow. xx

I Went To Old Navy And Found Some Shockingly Good Pieces (Totally #NONSPON)

I hadn’t been to Old Navy in years, mostly because it’s not at the mall that I frequent and Brian buys most of the kids’ clothes at Target. WELL… NO LONGER. I was honestly blown away by how good some of the stuff was. I, of course, vowed to buy NOTHING because I don’t have the lifestyle anymore to need as many different clothes, especially nice work clothes but not only did I find some great pieces for those of you who do leave the house for a job where you need/want to look nice, but there were a few pieces that I literally couldn’t not buy. If you want to read my philosophy of consuming RE fast fashion it’s at the end. But for now, here are some standout pieces that I found.

Striped Linen Top, $40 | Jeans, $29 | Mules (not Old Navy)
What I don’t need in my life is another striped linen shirt, but for $40 I couldn’t believe how good this was (and my other one from 2 years ago is a little too snug right now so I justified this one quickly). I’m wearing a small, FYI, so it’s pretty oversized. The jeans were so good – high-waisted, wide-leg and I cuffed them because I don’t love the puddle look that many people are into right now. But I LOVED these jeans and if I had a job where I left the house needing to impress anyone I would get these.
My Maxi Skirt Formula IRL

Sweatshirt, $35 | Maxi Skirt, $35 | Sneakers (not Old Navy)
A cute cotton skirt (elastic waist, flattering tummy) and a boxy sweatshirt. I’m not totally selling it in these photos but we all agreed that this was such an easy/cute spring outfit to wear. I skipped the skirt since I do like showing off my legs when it’s warm out, but bought the sweatshirt because it’s boxy and super comfy (the color looks icky under their fluorescent lighting, but its a really nice olive).
The Cutest Striped Linen Set Ever
Linen Striped Shirt, $40 | Linen Striped Shorts, $30 | Sneakers (not Old Navy)
I’m taking the EHD team to Mexico in May (you know, for a very serious brainstorming session) and y’all I’LL BE WEARING THIS. This shirt is an XL so I ordered a medium, but the linen is soft and flowy, the shorts were so comfy and cute and as a set (with sandals) it is so cute (and doesn’t read as pajamas at all, which I think many sets can). I would probably style this with my Birkenstocks and something tied around my waist.

Linen Striped Shirt, $40 | Linen Striped Shorts, $30 | Sneakers (not Old Navy)
This comes in a lot of colors, but we agreed that this pink was perfect for me The top of the shorts is a light elastic (not too tight, doesn’t cut in).

Pink One Piece Swimsuit, $25 | Striped Shorts, $30
While this is not the suit for me I still thought it was super super cute for someone who might not need as much support and might not have the budget for my dumb splurgy suits (I’m EXTREMELY picky and curvy for being so short so I’m a TA3 gal – just got the muscle tank suit and OMG, I want it in every color).

Pink One Piece Swimsuit, $25 | Striped Shorts, $30
Again, if you have larger ladies this will not be supportive enough, but if you are smaller up top the shape is so cute, it’s double-layered so you feel more secure. I just liked the shape of the tank, the zipper makes it flirty and cute, and the color POPS if you are still in your Barbie season.
I Bought This Entire Outfit And I Feel Zero Shame

Blazer, $55 | Vest, $40 | White Tee, $8 | Jeans, $29 | Mules (not Old Navy)
While I do NOT have an office job, this linen jacket and vest was so good and affordable that both Kaitlin and I bought it. The vest is boxy and cool (and looks VERY expensive). I can’t stress this enough – the cut of it is far better than most other vests I’ve ever tried that try to make it too body-con and it feels either cheesy or hugs in the wrong places. This is more of a “boy cut” that is straight and very simple. SO GOOD. The jacket, too – double-breasted and perfectly tailored and straight. The boyfriend jeans were EXCELLENT and I’ve worn them 3 times since I got them last week. They were loose in the right ways that boyfriend jeans should be, with an excellent wash and I just feel so cute in them.

Blazer, $50 | Striped Tank, $20 | Shorts, $20 | Mules (not Old Navy)
Another EXCELLENT spring/summer suit for those of you who want to look professional and cool, while not being crazy hot. This isn’t how I would style it (the tank, which I loved and bought) was too high-necked for this but the jacket and shorts (on sale) were great. Also, the lighting in these stores SUCK.
Matching Summer Set With The Best Pull-On Shorts YET

Sweater, $45 | Pull-on Shorts, $30 | Mules (not Old Navy)
I bought two pairs of these pull-on shorts (one in white, one in denim) because they are such a good cut, so comfortable up top (doesn’t cut in to make a waist, just sits nicely up there with slight elastic in the back). The stitched pockets on the front are very flattering and flair out in the most perfect way. And yes, such a great summer-weight sweater with holes.

Sweater, $45 | Pull-on Shorts, $30 | Sneakers (not Old Navy)
I obviously tried it on in the olive, too, and sized up to a medium in both so you could see the difference (just slightly bigger). I bought small (the white pair above) but might size up for the days when I just feel like I want everything loose.

Quarter Zip Sweatshirt, $50 | Shorts, $10 | Sneakers (not Old Navy)
I absolutely LOVED this quarter zip and went online to buy the green one below in a small (only had white in store in small and my life is too dirty for white). It’s so soft, has a great shape, pockets with zippers – THE WORKS. The shorts have a liner and a nice fit at the top (not too tight). I’m going to have to break up with my $90 Lululemon shorts that I still really love but for $19 (just $10 if they’re still on sale!) these are just so cute (and since I’m not a performance athlete).

Quarter Zip Sweatshirt, $50 | Tee, $17 | Shorts, $10 | Sneakers (not Old Navy)
Here it is in the green – the set I ended up ordering. It’s so cute and comfortable and while It’s not flashy, I felt pulled together.

Windbreaker, $60 | Leggings, $45 | Sneakers (not Old Navy)
I’m not properly selling this windbreaker in this shot but it’s really good – the fabric is stiff enough to not look cheap and to keep its shape, and it’s cropped with buttons, pockets, drawstrings – all the goods. It’s the perfect spring layer that is easy to layer even over a sweatshirt (and yes, I bought this one). Also, the green ribbed tights were very comfy, with a thick band and side pockets.

Denim Shirt, $40 | Purse (not Old Navy) | Biker Shorts, $20 | Sneakers (not Old Navy)
Forever laughing that my team made me recreate some Gigi Hadid in biker shorts looking at her phone moment, but these two are really good. An oversized super thin and drapey denim shirt (that is also excellent if you are a sweater around the waist person like I am) and really affordable. Oh, and these are thick biker shorts (not too thick, but thick enough that it doesn’t show everything underneath). I brought home both.

Shirt Dress, $45 | Sweater, $45 | Mules (not Old Navy)
Another excellent shirt dress that has a cute pocket, pleating in the back, and pockets. This one is a bit see-through so you might want a slip. It’s a great shape and feels like an updated classic.

Shirt Dress, $45 | Sweater, $45 | Mules (not Old Navy)
A Triangle Tent Dress For All The Spring/Summer Days
Dress, $40 | Mules (not Old Navy)

Dress, $40 | Mules (not Old Navy)
Another shirt dress, this time super wide with an A-line shape that is just so easy to throw on. This might be too casual for many offices, but for those hotter days it’s kinda all you can wear in the summer. The pattern was cute, but it’s the cut that was so great.
Excellent Baggy Jeans
Shoulder Padded Tee (not Old Navy) | Purse | Jeans, $46 | Mules (not Old Navy)
This was my “woah, these are so cute” look. These are oddly floppy jeans, in a good way. Like they are fitted up top but then really flowy (probably the word I was looking for) and fun to wear. These are petite (shorter) which I loved as it’s more of the look that I like. I wish they didn’t have holes but at that price, I love them for the days when you want to wear jeans but not tight or thick denim.
A Good Layering Cargo Jacket

Jacket, $25 | Jeans, $29 | Mules (not Old Navy)
Gretchen and Kailtin said “You will wear this jacket every day” and they aren’t wrong. It’s structured but roomy so it’s great to layer even over sweatshirts. It has multiple pockets, a fun collar, and it’s just classic in all the ways. And yes, those are the boyfriend jeans again – so good.
Re my fast fashion philosophy. Not everyone can afford to buy from the brands that are making beautiful clothes with the best sustainable practices. I wish that was different. So if your budget doesn’t allow for those pieces, then “fast fashion” tends to be one of the main options. Yes, there is of course secondhand but that can be limited depending on your location and even size. And everyone deserves to look and feel good. With all that said, just because something is considered fast fashion doesn’t mean it’s automatically going to end up in a landfill. I’ve had some of those pieces for years and that is the hope of this post, to help us all find really good, affordable pieces that we’ll want to wear for a long time. As with everything we consume, we need to do so mindfully and do the best we can with what we have.

FIX IT FRIDAY: 3 Readers Needed Budget-Friendly Outdoor Space “Makeovers” And This Is What We Told Them To Do

The sun has started to really shine now that we are well into April so it was only natural that our next Fix it Friday was outdoor-related. I know many of us have been “meaning” to fix up our patios, balconies, decks, etc for probably years now, so how about we make it actually happen during this one? Full honestly, mine needs a very laborious deep clean. But if you are starting fresh (and hopefully kinda clean) then here are three reader-submitted entries that I hope will inspire you.
Now, I chose three more budget-friendly ones to show you that you can do a lot for less. However, outdoor furniture is typically pricey. The idea is that they have to stand up to the elements, right? But also remember that there are so many affordable second-hand options that with a little love can look awesome. I just had to choose things that were purchasable online for more than one person since it’s you know, a blog with a few readers:) Ok first batter up!
Nothin In Napa
From Our Reader: “We’re in Napa Valley, hoping to have a small table for dining and then some lounge space for 2-4 ppl. Open to seating styles, chaises, or a couch.
Budget $3k
Look – totally open-minded, something comfortable and in the middle of not too modern and not too farmlike in style. A classic hideaway? Rustic oasis? Need some planters!”

You got it! So I think this can easily be split into a lounge zone and a dining zone. On the left is where I think a sectional could happily go, especially with that beautiful tree next to it. Then adding a patterned rug to zone out the area would totally anchor the space. Plus it adds visual interest and texture. I’d love to see some fun but neutral pillows on the sectional too!

Then on the right and a little closer to the house, I think a round dining table (to break up the rectangle-ness of the sectional and the patio itself) would look perfect. I chose this awesome rattan one from Article that I also used on my communal apartment patio (see above). It’s so so pretty, easily fits 4 if not 5 or 6, but should be covered when you aren’t using it FYI. Now, let’s get more into the design…

Outdoor String Lights | Sectional + Coffee Table Set | Rug | Side Table | Floral Pillow | Green Pillow | Faux Natural Fiber Pillow | Candelabra | Taper Candles | Cream Planter | Terra Cotta Planter | Footed Tray Set | Copper Lanterns | Dining Table | Metal Chairs (Set of 4)
I really think this mood board rides the line nicely between modern and farmhouse while still staying within the $3k budget. The sectional and coffee table set is a bit more modern but then is offset by the rustic wood side table and cozy, almost farmhouse-like pillows. I then wanted to use a slightly bold but not too loud rug (yes, it’s one of ours:)) and I love this combo. But for easy cleaning and stackability, those metal chairs are perfect and are a great contrast to the very natural, airy dining table. To finish it off, with cute decor, I LOVE the look of an iron candelabra on an outdoor table. Then adding in those pinkish candles when they are hosting or eating outside it will look incredibly stylish and intentional. That black tray is awesome (actually comes in a set of 2) and would look great on the coffee table and the copper lanterns help to warm up the space. Honestly, I didn’t pick out too many planters because I think an assortment of terra cotta planters from a local nursery is their best bet. I really hope this helps!
Curing That “Blah” Feeling
From Our Reader: “I love our backyard! But it needs a bit of styling. We have already spent quite a bit removing all of the grass and adding pavers, pea gravel, new fence, and last year a pergola to cover our prized Big Green Egg! The downside. It tends to look a bit grey. Between the pavers, gravel, and Adirondackchairs (that I love) it’s all totally blah. The budget would be $3000. We live in North Vancouver, Canada so need to accommodate a very wet climate.”

I love their yard too and can definitely tell they’ve really put in a ton of work. But I also can see that with a little styling and a potential DIY it could really sing. I do want to preface that since the reader is in Canada I kept my search to Wayfair, Amazon, and one Article piece assuming shipping wouldn’t be an issue. I wish I could snap my fingers and Canada’s Targets were as good there as they are here (or at least that’s what I keep hearing).
First off, I think their beloved Adirondack chairs could benefit from a fresh coat of stain? That way they will look a little warmer and inviting if that’s what they are looking for. If they love the current shade then no need to stain. It’s not crucial to the design:) But some visual texture is. What I mean is that we need a rug, some interesting but practical seating for the table, a little color, and more planters!
The last thing I’ll say before I get into specific products is that maybe letting/guiding that greenery on the right wall extend around the whole space would be SO pretty. That might be the plan already which I’m keeping my fingers crossed for (if it’s possible!).

Copper Side Table | Adirondack Chair Pillows x4 | Dining Chair Pillows x2 | Long Planter | Blankets x4 | Blanket Basket | Copper Lanterns | Black Lantern | Captain Chair x2 | Metal Outdoor Bench x2 | Ceramic Tray | Jute Rug | Water Resistant Plastic Lockable Deck Box
See what I mean by the warmer wood stain? It’s just cozy. But also NO pressure. One thing I want to point out is this reader’s weather issue in that they experience A LOT of it. So the first thing I did was look for an affordable, not hideous, water-resistant storage box. If you have any great suggestions, aside from the one above, please drop them in the comments! It’s very important to remember that without textiles and plants, of course, your backyard will most likely feel kinda blah. It’s been cold for months, y’all! But then spring comes and the textiles will reemerge leaving your eyes so happy. No need to go crazy with bright colors to counterbalance the seasonal grayness unless that’s your style.
I felt like this reader was more of a nature color lover so I stuck with blues and greens for the pillows and rug. Also, peep the “blanket basket” which would be so cute and wonderful to bring out when people are crowded around the fire pit. But this doesn’t mean we can’t have a little metallic glam with that side table and those lanterns (which I would love to see a lot more of by the play area entrance). Speaking of the play area, I think it would look so pretty to have a long planter at the edge of the elevated area by the stairs on the left (even better if there’s another on the right). Plantings that are just tall enough to make that space feel separate, but not so tall that you can’t see the kids playing. Plus that rusty metal is so pretty.
Then for the dining table, I am a big fan of the idea of getting two really special captain chairs and then two benches for the sides. I saw that some chairs were stacked next to the pergola so no need to get new seating but at the same time, with those 4 Adirondack chairs, it’s A LOT of chairs with a lot of lines. But the most crucial part of the dining area is a large area rug! It helps zone the space and brings in more visual life. This is also why a storage box is SO IMPORTANT so that their pillows, blankets, and rug can stay beautiful and out of a landfill.
Sun Bathing In BrooklynBudget:
About $1500!A little about the space:
It’s really big and has 2 levels (you will see the little step). It is on the second floor of a 3rd floor walkup. There is no direct view into anyone’s windows except my neighbors upstairs, so it is pretty privateI just got that IKEA bamboo picnic table, which I love but everything else can go. There is a spot for an umbrella. You are probably wondering WTF is lying my the door? That is a divider that rotted and fell down. It blocks my portion of the deck from my next-door neighbors and keeps my dog from wandering over thereWhat I want/need to do with the space:
I work from home 3 days a week, so when it is nice I would like to do calls from thereI def more of a tanning and gossiping with my best friend type of gal and not a hosting BBQs and having a conversation space. I would love a cool chaise/reclining chair to lay in the sun on nice daysI have an old dog so I need a comfy place for him to relax when it doesn’t feel up for taking a walk.I love plants and growing veggies! I would love a cool big tree I could grow in a pot that won’t die in the winter. My landlord built the current flower pot and it is dying. I just bought a compost bin that I am going to set up out there, so I need a spot for that too!
Well, that was extremely helpful information and I hope I got pretty close to it! While $1,500 is not a small amount of money, especially for one space, I wasn’t about to deck it out as much as I would have liked. But as a vintage lover/hoarder (other info from the email) over time she will decorate this deck out BEAUTIFULLY. Until then, here’s my plan for her.

I think a symmetrical look would be so fun. That means centering the table a little more (and obviously adding a sick-looking umbrella). Then on the “lower level” get two lounge chairs that sit facing the building. Since they really aren’t a BBQ person, this gives them ample space to sunbathe with a friend. I also really like that white cabinet they already have and think it could be great for storage or even a glorified plant stand:)

Bring this baby back to life and add a couple of cute trellises for a little extra privacy (vines will really help with this:))

They also mentioned that their divider fell down and in the spirit of saving some money, I’d really try to repair it. Then throw the new compost under the stairs since the last thing you’ll want to do is walk far with your food scraps when the weather is super cold…or too hot and near all the lounging if you catch my drift. I also think the colors of that accent chair are FUN. But moving it to the other side for just one more place to sit would be great (and not get in the way of the lounge chairs:)).
Here’s what I think is a great starting point.

Outdoor String Lights | Rattan Planters | Umbrella | Umbrella Stand | Existing Picnic Table | Trellises x2 | Lounge Chairs x2 | Towels x2 | Dog Bed | Patio Cooler
The umbrella is the centerpiece and while looking yellow the description reads like more of a cream, FYI. A stand is important but it’s an added bonus that their recently purchased table has a hole for umbrellas already. Then if we stay on the top deck, I love love these trellises and think two (I didn’t get measurements) would be perfect in the plant box. A vintage-esque-looking beauty if you ask me! But as someone who loves laying (read: napping) in the sun, a good lounge chair was important for me to find. I love the style of this one and the pull-out side table. The white cushion color is risky but that’s what covers are for. These are perfect for not being depressed when you look outside. But while using these chairs, I love these towel’s print so much. Then, of course, we needed a comfy spot for the dog and this outdoor plush bed was screaming my name. I think having the bed at the foot of one of the loungers or back behind the table where the current one is will work best. Lastly, an extra large cooler for fun drinks or cold snacks for when our reader is solo or with friends sounds like a good idea to me:)
As always, I hope this was helpful even if you weren’t chosen and THANK YOU to everyone who did submit! I wish we could help every single on of you every time<3 Happy Friday!
Love you, mean it.
