A single realistic virtual earth for global warming - a whole earth simulation (enormous data-wise) - would allow us to see and generate knowledge of where we've come from and where we could head with ever increasing accuracy (way beyond fragmented simulations of weather on the News or even from Cambridge Univ, for ex. Or a huge national science weather simulation).
Think Google Street View with Time Slider where one could Slide forward to the future (or back) - with ever increasing data (that many can add, even you and I with photos, for example, of rising oceans and stationary land masses, to Street View, over decades ...  I see even a parallel here with the idea of people sharing info & data & 'leadings' in a hypothetical Non-theist Friends' Meeting in the group sharing aspect).

David, did you ever know Jonathan Lovell? He came to Cuttyhunk on a boat in the '50s with his father, the '60s, and possibly 70s+. He was also a Scottish Country Dancer in the SF Bay Area, a cheery friend too, a San Jose State University English Professor, and with Amherst College, Oxford and Yale degrees. He died not long ago, under slightly mysterious circumstances to me ... Could this have been from California experimenting out of the 1970s and beyond ? - Could it have been during the coronavirus pandemic? (Am not sure exactly when he died but there are some obituaries online I think). Just a heads' up in what may be an ongoing quiet witch hunt during the post coronavirus pandemic time - and re those who may have experimented sexually in the past ... I wonder if it might make sense, even regarding your Dartmouth networks (and I've been a whistle-blower about the SF Quaker Meeting and ethical wrongdoing with kids, and even tragically the international illegal sex industry - where the treasurer of this Quaker Meeting has 2 Dartmouth degrees, and was a junior CYC instructor, and may be a bit sick or mentally ill too) ... to be careful around CYC kids, and even avoid them in some ways ... for one's own safety potentially ... Am missing Jonathan Lovell's kindred Massachusetts' spirit and don't know how he died, but wonder about unjust foul play even, and sadly.

Machine learning and statistics and economics at WUaS - 
Larry, thank you for offering to contact our WUaS first prospective PhD student Alvian Nur in Indonesia directly, and to help him as his instructor or perhaps adviser to get started with his studies beginning with MIT OCW courses he sent in (below), in statistics and economics, as he matriculates in this WUaS PhD pathway.

and it makes me wonder how WUaS could richly facilitate machine learning in a statistics PhD (in Indonesia esp) further, since it's timely and topical, - and computation is probably a key path ahead in statistics and economics academically too. It seems like this would be an opportunity for WUaS to engage other resources on the web to complement MIT OCW and Alvian's MIT program pathway regarding machine learning, or to delve further into MIT OCW in different ways about this topic.

I looked up 'machine learning and Lego Robotics,' and 'Machine Learning and Scratch programming,' but only found some initial efforts and web sites.

Dennis, (Linda), are there approaches to machine learning you're developing for your students in statistics and economics at CMU? Playful approaches somehow even? Might your department be hiring faculty even to teach Machine Learning, or are you building on previous approaches to machine learning as this (ML) develops, by any chance ?

Might there some collaboration potentials between CMU and WUaS in these regards? Might we even inquire of Peter Norvig further about related questions, since he wrote the main text book on AI - Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach (2020, 4th Ed)?

Is this a turning point for World Univ & Sch? (Thanks to executive director Yassi Moghaddam at ISSIP, and everyone at ISSIP for this Award!)

Getting PRESS has been a very long journey for World Univ & Sch - and the role of the Press in America is at times one of watch dog and conscience - and I wonder whether there's any linkage whatsoever between my ongoing expression of concern about 1) the wrongs that MIT has done in recent years regarding the illegal sex industry, - my calls for aboliton in these regards - 2) my whistle-blowing about Canyon 94516, Stanford, UC Berkeley, Berkeley Law, the SF Quaker Meeting, Reed College, and 3) newly my exploration even of making this MacLeod house on Cuttyhunk law abiding proof somehow (with the Google Nest WiFi Hub and the possible Google Nest x Yale Lock with Nest Connection) ... and it makes me wonder how WUaS could richly facilitate machine learning in a statistics' PhD (in Indonesia esp.) further, since it's timely and topical, - and computation is probably a key path ahead in statistics and economics academically too. It seems like this would be an opportunity for WUaS to engage other resources on the web to complement MIT OCW and Alvian's MIT program pathway regarding machine learning, or to delve further into MIT OCW in different ways about this topic.
I looked up 'machine learning and Lego Robotics,' and 'Machine Learning and Scratch programming,' but only found some initial efforts and web sites.
Dennis, (Linda), are there approaches to machine learning you're developing for your students in statistics and economics at CMU? Playful approaches somehow even? Might your department be hiring faculty even to teach Machine Learning, or are you building on previous approaches to machine learning as this (ML) develops, by any chance ?
Might there some collaboration potentials between CMU and WUaS in these regards? Might we even inquire of Peter Norvig further about related questions, since he wrote the main text book on AI - "Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach" (2020, 4th Ed)?

It's humid, and been humid for a decade or two, relative to the 1970s, '80s and 90s, but I haven't observed any obvious or dramatic rise in sea level due to global warming yet, when looking at high tide on a full moon. So is global warming happening, but the oceans not radically affected yet? Possibly.

How are you, and how have your summers gone so far? Cuttyhunk is lovely, and nice to have driven across the country to be here for a month. Planning to head west now leaving Cuttyhunk this Saturday, leaving Portland Maine M Aug 2, and getting to the SF Bay Area around the 10-12th after a 3 night stop in Pgh (for car maintenance and to see friends) and then potentially north to Oregon & to visit 2 nights with my cousin Ann at Wisdom Creek Ranch near Medical Springs OR (would this be ok please, Ann?:) ... then to the Bay Area ... 
LOTS OF DRIVING AS ADVENTURE AND JOURNEY ... Looking forward to self driving vehicles for open western highways esp ... In a large-ish Sprinter Van that's even electric (for reversing global warming and energy efficiency)  ...

Am thinking re living in a 'safe house' in the SF Bay Area that Arlington Blvd is safe .... but could 670 Ridgecrest Canyon 94516 become safe by spring of 2022 (if previous residents moved on ... Of their own volition, and the house becomes available - for legal reasons too)?
So with this current thinking, and having made it safely to Cuttyhunk, a stop on a contemporary Underground Railroad or Freedom Trail, as I think of this - and spreading the word about reasons for living in a 'safe house' (the latent culture of violence in the illegal sex industry, for one, scarily and tragically) - and heading back west unsure of where I'll be living after my lease in 'safe house' ends in March 2022 ... Again,I'm thinking back to the 2 times Chandon Barry has asked me this summer if he can BRING OVER some musical instruments (what else could this refer to that might be illegal?) - and play them with me with my Scottish Small Pipes ... and I've said yes ... but he's never come over .... so have I given him permission in a sense to come over any time and also somehow possibly TAKE musical instruments too - if he were to know where the outside key is ? And I've just given a brand new Yamaha Piaggerro keyboard to our MacLeod's house (batteries coming soon I hope ) ... and could he also hypothetically come and take this instrument, since the house is open in a sense, and I've given him permission to do something with musical instruments in our MacLeod house? Potentially it seems to me ... and is possession 9/10s of the law (another legal principle like the Great Writ of Habeas Corpus) ...
In seeking too to develop World Univ & Sch (like Wikipedia in 300 languages with CC-4 MIT OCW in 4 languages, and offering free to students' university degrees in 200 countries & their main languages) - given all the wrongs that I observed at MIT itself IN RECENT YEARS, and regarding the illegal sex industry, - I would like to begin to seek to lessen such risks for WUaS beginning even with the MacLeod Cuttyhunk house.

Greetings! Thanks for this "Big Discovery" email.

The following is the information in our island cemetery survey. We also have a four page monograph on Louise and George and would happily send you a copy if you would share your address.
 Good luck in your ancestor search. Sometimes we learn about our direct descendants from the character and lives of their brother, sisters, aunts and uncles. In this case, Louise and George were beloved in the community and made significant contributions that are still remembered. You come from a caring and hearty stock!

Nice to get your email, and to revisit Mrs. Haskell, further, in memory.

I first came to Cuttyhunk with my family in 1966 as a six year old.

I remember Mrs. Haskell's good will and presence in the center of town, - as school teacher, and Sunday school teacher (which I didn't attend) - and her appearance primarily. She wore these leggings, rimmed glasses with dark rims, and slightly browning lenses, print dresses, and big black shoes. I picture her primarily on the front porch of where Oscar Lodter (sp?) lived at the time, too, I think, and in front of where the Cuttyhunk store was located then. (The store then moved downhill one house, and then across the street, where it now). Mrs Haskell lived in the front part, in front of this old store, right on the main road called Broadway. There was no historical society then, and in the 70s, kids used to hang out on the wall right across from where she lived, which is on the Tower Hill road. Mrs. Haskell's building, right in the center of town, is now owned by George Achille, I think. I don't know who wowned it when Mrs. Haskell lived there. I also remember her in relation to the History of Cuttyhunk she wrote. We were friends as a little kid can be with a friendly presence in town. If more memories come to me I'll let you know, but that's all I recall at this point.

While this may repeat my blog entry in parts, I didn't revisit my blog entry in the recalling process. Keep asking people on Cuttyhunk, by coming to the Cuttyhunk Historical Society, for example, in summer. There are probably a lot of people who remember her.

I wanted to thank you for this posting. I came across it when I was researching my Grand Aunt Louise T Haskell( Grandfather's Sister). I would be interested in any additional recollections or information you might have on her. Her maiden name is Hattie Louise Taylor and the last information I was able to find was the 1930 Census. She was still single at 36 and living on the island at that time. I have no information about her husband Mr. Haskell. She died in Apr 1978 at 84.

Planning to get into New Bedford, MA, next Saturday at 4 and drive directly to Buxton, to see you, if that's ok with you.

I think the connection is in Moraga CA about 3 miles away ...
Could this work for 14 miles away, from MacLeod's house, and the Tabor house, from Cuttyhunk MA to the mainland - with direct lines of sight connectivity ?
The MacLeod's Cuttyhunk house where I am is having internet streaming issues presently, and Cuttyhunk network engineer Grant Schenck just said that a satellite to the mainland wouldn't work, that 2 other options would, but as I think about Canyon re this picture, I'm wondering whether it's worth checking out with other experts in that specific area. Could even the uniformed services have helped install the Canyon dish? Could they help on Cuttyhunk? (The MacLeod house has direct point to point connectivity ... And then could much of Cuttyhunk get "Google Nest" WiFi Mesh hubs - and everyone gets good internet for once after decades?)

nice to talk to you on the road in front of OUR MacLeod's Piney's House on Cuttyhunk. Thanks  too for saying I'm an UU (as an Unitarian Universalist minister - on Cuttyhunk, and in New England!) ... I feel honored ... and having sung in 2 UU choirs in the past. Am also a Quaker (officially even re the RSoF), but with nontheistic Friendly thinking ... And a bit of a Friendly conscientious objector to some extent and re Quakers even. Am also a Yogi in some ways -http://www.scottmacleod.com/yoganotations.html (with a deep appreciation of India thinking)
 - and a Taoist (re Lao Tzu and Chuang Tzu's writings), and an Actual-Virtual Harbin Hot Springer or Harbinite (but not really regarding Heart Consciousness Church, or HCC, or NACOB too), a poet (4 books), and an anthropologist (& sociologist, and a Castellian re Manuel Castells), an agnostic with atheist tendencies, and a professor, an information technologist, and president, and identify somewhat Scottish (American) too ... All re identity-questions (a social science focus) ... So I guess such eclecticism could be very much UU esp. ...
