Most of us have a few clocks or watches that do not automatically adjust themselves to Daylight Saving Time. So please remember to "spring forward" before going to bed this Saturday night.
Peace and tranquility are our natural state, so they should be our default position. Disease and displeasure are unnatural, but common due to the stress and anxiety of living in a frenetic, material world.
The technology and economic systems of the present era seduce us with promises of convenience and ease. But in fact, we exhaust ourselves in the process.
So how may we recover? How do we find and sustain a calm and peaceful disposition — to see things as they truly are, clearly and deeply, and begin to understand our role in this world with grace and ease?

First, a reminder that except for Hawaii and most of Arizona, the United States will move to Daylight Saving Time next Sunday, March 12. Remember to set your clocks ahead Saturday night (3/11/23) so you don't miss the first hour of our Sunday class.
In tomorrow's class we'll tackle the nature of Truth, which includes facts, proof, evidence, belief, experience, opinion, and all manner of assumptions and suppositions. This is a fascinating topic which begins with the differences between subjective and objective truth, as well as relative and absolute truth.
Further, there are metaphysical truths which must be taken on faith before they can be experienced as true — a significant distinction from the physical truths of mathematics and science.

MIrrors were rare and expensive in ancient Rome. It was not until the mid-16th Century that Venetian glass-makers learned to back a glass plate with shiny metal that mirrors became more affordable, popular, and common.
But beyond their practical uses, mirrors have always stimulated deeper reflections of spiritual philosophy — in particular, the idea that the physical world is, in some way, a reflection of Divine Mind.

In this Sunday's free Zoom class, we'll take a look at the art and science of deep relaxation. Would it surprise you if I said, "Besides sleeping, few people ever relax." In fact, most people find relaxation difficult and uncomfortable.
Does trying to relax make you anxious, nervous, or even irritated? The average attention span in the U.S. is getting shorter and shorter. Many of our friends and neighbors find it difficult to even sit through a 90-movie. And meditation seems impossible to those who identify with the voices inside their heads.
The stress, tension, and anxiety that accumulates from an inability or unwillingness to relax shatters self-awareness and intelligence. Further, routine distress is emotionally painful and physical unhealthy, Why do you think illness is called "dis-ease?"

The parable, "You reap what you sow" has a sister-allegory, which is just as true — "You go where you look."
It brings to mind George Harrison's lyric, "If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there."
When we obsess on avoiding what we wish to avoid, we attract that undesirable outcome, which we resist and become stuck. So it is imperative that we envision clear, specific goals and strategies.
Knowing what you want is the first step to getting it. Do you know what you want? Do you know why you want it? Can you imagine already having it, or is your mind full of reasons why you'll probably never get there?

Having devoted most of our recent classes to non-religious approaches to the spiritual development of consciousness, we will now turn our attention to personal development. We do so by asking, "Why develop a personality we seek to transcend?"
It's a fair question. Seems we should just skip over the intrapersonal and jump to the transpersonal. But that would be like trying to learn algebra or calculus with little or no understanding of basic arithmetic.
In some ways, the unfolding of consciousness is like climbing a ladder. We must move upwards one rung at a time.
In this Sunday's "Wisdom of the Soul" class, we'll discuss the various forms of induction to a safe, relaxed alpha brainwave state, plus some ot the basics of visualization.

As promised, we will follow-up on last week's Sermon on the Mount class with a similar overview of the Buddhist Noble Eightfold Path. Like the Beatitudes, the Noble Path is an instruction guide or "how to" manual for the unfolding of enlightenment (Nirvana/Paradise).
We'll touch briefly on the most fundamental Buddhist principles — the Four Noble Truths, then dwell of the fourth, which is the Noble Eightfold Path.

Christ was not a Christian. He was a mystic. He taught the principles necessary to become more virtuous and God-like, not simply to accept and obey Him through ritual and ceremony.
It is ironic that the most significant lessons taught by Christ are largely ignored by so many Christians — the fundamentalists in particular. No doubt, this is because "The Sermon on the Mount" and its introductory Beatitudes are not a system of theology or worship, but rather a metaphysical guide for the unfolding of consciousness.
