MIrrors were rare and expensive in ancient Rome. It was not until the mid-16th Century that Venetian glass-makers learned to back a glass plate with shiny metal that mirrors became more affordable, popular, and common.
But beyond their practical uses, mirrors have always stimulated deeper reflections of spiritual philosophy — in particular, the idea that the physical world is, in some way, a reflection of Divine Mind.
