I decided to change things up a bit for my final Jungle Girl cover. (Issue #4.) I decided to draw most of it in my ballpoint pen technique. It’s a time and labor intensive method but the results are fantastic – that is if I don’t screw up and is done right.
I’ve attached the cover in progress. As you can see, it’s a slow and deliberate layering process. I essentially blanket the image with ballpoint pen cross-hatches. I have to be hyper-vigilant and clean my ballpoint pen tip after few strokes to avoid the dreaded “ink glob”. This is two days of work so far. I’m at the mid-point. I should finish in another couple of days. I’ll post the finished image next week.
This image is created by using “Round Stic” BIC ballpoint pen (medium point, black ink) on Strathmore Bristol board vellum surface (300 series).

Good day today. I’m about at the halfway point from recoloring all the Liberty Meadows Sunday comic strips, thanks to my colorist, Michelle Proust. At the rate we’re going, I should have everything finished by next month and hopefully have the second collection book of Liberty Meadows Sunday comic strips by fall.
Well, I gotta get back to work. We still have lot of work to do on these strips, rescanning and recoloring. But I’ll keep you guys updated when we reach another milestone.

Katniss – Hunger Games

Today is my sweet daughter’s birthday. I can’t believe my little baby is 11 years old today. Happy birthday, Samantha!
My daughter, being a big fan of Jennifer Lawrence, wanted a drawing of Katniss from the Hunger Games. Now, my daughter never asked for my art nor, to my knowledge, expressed any interest in what I did for a living. So I was pleasantly surprised when she asked me to draw her a picture. To make sure I don’t disappoint her, I set everything aside this week and focused on this ballpoint pen portrait. I literally finished this portrait last night and in process of getting a nice frame for it. I’m gonna surprise her today with it.
Here’s my birthday gift for my daughter, Samantha – Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss from Hunger Games.
