                                                                              – FRANK CHO – upcoming cover art detail

First of all, I want to thank everyone for giving my Savage Wolverine a try. I hope that you guys enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed writing and drawing it.

Now, people have asked me what’s coming up after my Savage Wolverine run. Well, gang, Marvel will announce it soon. In fact, I’ve just received the full script this week and just started drawing it. It’s a doozy.

Here’s the partial image of the cover of the wrap around cover.

Let the speculation begin.

*****

I’ll be at Heroes Convention at Charlotte, North Carolina, this weekend.

I’ll be sitting in AA-1503, near Neal Adams and Brandon Peterson.

I have no idea what I’ll bring to sell since I’m sold out of everything. As for whether or not I’ll be doing sketches at the show is up in the air.

FRANK CHO Frankenstein pen and ink

I didn’t get a chance to work more on the Frankenstein piece. Marvel has been keeping me very busy with one exciting projects after another. However, I did manage to find some free time to finish the woman’s dress, and start on the Frankenstein figure in the background.

Some of you are asking which pens I’m using on this illustration. As always, I’m using Micron Pigma pens. I’m using two sizes, 08 for thick dark lines (Frankenstein’s jacket) and 01 for light area (Frankenstein’s shirt). I haven’t figured out what to use for the black curtains. I think I’ll use a brush and tweak it with Pigma pens.

One of the dangers of doing these long tedious, highly detailed illustration is rushing through it, especially when you’re more than halfway finished. This is when most of the mistakes are made. If you get the urge to rush it. It’s best to walk away and come back with a fresh eye and calm energy.

Hopefully, I can finish this by Sunday. Knock on wood.

FRANK CHO and Brandon Peterson – Liberty Meadows Brandy in space San Diego Comic-Con print

Boom! Hot off the press. Here’s the annual art print that I’ll be selling at the San Diego Comic-Con.

I had fun drawing this cheeky parody of Star Trek, one of my favorite sci-fi shows. My boy, Brandon Peterson, did another stellar job coloring it.

It was interesting to see all the details on the costumes and the props while studying the reference photos. I couldn’t believe how simple and crude the captain’s chair was. I just cracked up looking at all the 1960’s beehive hair-dos on the female cast. Talk about walking down memory lane. Despite the shoe-string budget and the dated look, Star Trek still told great emotional and entertaining stories. And this print is my nod to that great classic show. Live Long and Prosper.

Print size – 11″ X 17″

Price – $20

Where – Booth #4907 (Big Wow Art)

Quantity – Signed and numbered 250 prints.

The first cover to my secret Marvel project is done!

Here’s the step-by-step progress of the ballpoint art on the cover. I used BIC ballpoint pens (medium point, black ink) on a Bristol board (Strathmore, vellum surface, 300 series). From start to finish, it took me about 5 days to complete this cover.

Now the final cover has been “editorially tweaked” and will not exactly look like this art but it turned out okay.

On to the next cover.

FRANK CHO – Wonder Woman new costumes.

Here’s the second of the three convention sketches I did at MegaCon, The Joys of Being Wonder Woman During the Costume Reboots.

The 3 sketches were: Wonder Woman, Mary Jane and Vampirella. All were done on a 14″ x 21″ Bristol board with pencil and ink for the word balloon. The 4th one I couldn’t finish in time. (Sorry Dave M. I’ll make it up to you at Chicago C2E2.Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to scan the third one – Vampirella – having troubles with her high heels. But I think the happy owner of that piece will scan it himself and post it on the internet soon.

(Special thanks to Brandon Peterson for scanning these sketches at the convention.)

Private ballpoint pen commission for a very, very patient art collector. (Thanks again for your patience, D.) With my hectic and uneven workload, I could only work on this piece just a little bit at a time during my free periods.

I don’t believe I’ve tackled a large Mary Jane piece before, especially in her iconic introduction. I rather enjoyed drawing this piece, and probably do another version in a slightly different pose.

Frank Cho: Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss from Hunger Games.

Today is my sweet daughter’s birthday. I can’t believe my little baby is 11 years old today. Happy birthday, Samantha!

My daughter, being a big fan of Jennifer Lawrence, wanted a drawing of Katniss from the Hunger Games. Now, my daughter never asked for my art nor, to my knowledge, expressed any interest in what I did for a living. So I was pleasantly surprised when she asked me to draw her a picture. To make sure I don’t disappoint her, I set everything aside this week and focused on this ballpoint pen portrait. I literally finished this portrait last night and in process of getting a nice frame for it. I’m gonna surprise her today with it.

Here’s my birthday gift for my daughter, Samantha – Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss from Hunger Games.

I’ve been teasing you guys for many months now with several creator-owned projects that I’ve been working on. Well, here’s the first of many. I introduce to you – THE JUNGLE QUEEN!

This is a first 5 page sneak peek of the short introductory story of my new character. The entire short story will be published in “How To Draw Beautiful Women: The Frank Cho Method” book in October by Flesk Publications. (Storytelling chapter.) Afterward, a full stand alone Jungle Queen graphic novel or mini-series will be published.

The cool thing about this short story is that the entire story is silent, No dialogues. No word balloons. Nothing. The entire story is

told graphically without any verbal aid, just through body language and action. It was a story-telling challenge worth doing.

I hope that you guys enjoy this sneak peek of Jungle Queen as much as I enjoyed creating it.
