Facebook Censors and Suspends Frank Cho
FRANK CHO: Jungle Queen BOOM
Well, it happened again. Facebook lowered the boom on me. They censored my art and suspended me for 3 days.
The art in question was a drawing of topless Jungle Queen hanging onto a flying Pterodactyl. Yes, you’ve heard correctly – a DRAWING of a topless woman.
Sigh.
America is very backward and goes against common sense in some ways. You can show people getting killed, tortured, and maimed in most violent ways but you can’t show nipples on a woman because that’s crossing the line.
I worry for this country.
The good news is that all the censored art will be in my new Jungle Queen themed sketchbook called “Savage Beauty”.
It’s a 64 page book of all the naked women art that Facebook don’t want you to see. (Limited print run. $20 per copy.)
I’ll be selling the sketchbook at San Diego, Boston, and Baltimore Comic Cons.
For all you foreign fans, Stuart Ng Books (http://stuartngbooks.com/) and Bud Plant Comic Art (http://www.budplant.com/) will carry them after San Diego Comic-Con. You can order your copy through them.

WHEW. MADE IT!
FRANK CHO: Jungle Queen art
I had to pull double duties and work around the clock but I made it. The new Jungle Queen themed sketchbook is at the printer right now.
I should get the color proofs Monday or Tuesday. Once approved, the printer will have my books printed and at my doorstep in about two weeks – which will give me just enough time to re-box them about 600 copies and mail them out to the San Diego Comic-Con.
I just hope to Jebus that there’s no mistakes in the color proofs.
Knock on wood.

Frank Cho Donates Spider-Gwen Money To House Of Ruth Charity
Frank Cho: Spider Gwen donation check
First and foremost, I want to thank all my fans and decent strangers who stood with me and supported me throughout the week. You guys and gals are the reasons why common sense will prevail over knee-jerk overreaction.
There are things you need to be outraged about. There are things you need to rally against. There are things you need to call out and fight with all your might. But an unpublished drawing of a pretty fictional woman by an artist to show to his fans on his website is not one of them.
The outcry over my drawing by the misguided few is nonsensical and simply stupid. It is an outcry over an imaginary slight, and an outcry of the desperate who want to make a name for themselves in the industry. It was fascinating, amusing and appalling to see the overzealous critics of my art use faux outrage to air their personal demons and imagined injustices in the world. I can’t stress enough what utter nonsense and a waste of energy this whole event has been.
There are many real problems that deserve the attention and effort this make-believe scandal has unfairly received, problems I want to help fix. I’m going to use the publicity generated by this Spider-Gwen drawing and create something positive out of it by showcasing one of the more deserving charities – House of Ruth, a charity that helps battered women and broken families find safe haven in this world of threats and violence.
I am donating the money generated by my Spider-Gwen drawing to House of Ruth, a real charity that deals with and solves real problems.

Spider Gwen Sketch Cover

Frank Cho Spider Gwen sketch cover.
I’m still trying to dig my way out of my creative slump, so I rearranged my drawing studio. I bought several big office furniture from IKEA that will help my studio more practical and functional. I’m happy with how everything is now set in the room. There’s more “flow” to the room.
I still have to assemble couple of furniture, but I decided to take a break and draw which I haven’t done since I came back from Texas. So here’s my fun doodle for Spider Gwen with a nod to Manara.

Frank Cho announces: LIBERTY MEADOWS Is Coming Back!!!

FRANK CHO – Liberty Meadows
People have been asking me about the status of Liberty Meadows for awhile now. So today, I’m here to address that very question.
Yes, Liberty Meadows is alive and well. I’ve been quietly working on it since I got my rights back from Sony. Issue 38 will hopefully come out end of this year.
Let’s back track a minute. About 3 years ago, Sony got the rights to Liberty Meadows to develop it as a downloadable original cartoon series for their new Sony Digital division. I wrote the original pilot episode but it was rejected for being too “risque”. So other writers were brought in to tone it down and make it more kid friendly. Once I read the rewrite, I thought it completely missed the point of Liberty Meadows. So I rewrote the rewrite, and this went back and forth couple of times until we reached a compromised script. We turned that script into an traditional 2D animated pilot episode.
Enter Sony Television division. They saw the pilot episode and liked it. Liberty Meadows get bumped up to their television division and a TV series is planned. However there is one request, Sony Television people wanted Liberty Meadows to be more “risque” with adult humor like the “Family Guy”. This is the point where I rip my hair out in frustration. Sony Digital people rejected my original script for that very reason, for being too “risque”.
So I go back and re-polish the original script, adding more scenes to make it longer to fit the television episode time frame. As I’m doing this, a new Sony television contract is being drafted to replace my Sony digital contract. Then the recession hit. Then the three Sony executives who were shepherding this project along since the beginning leave Sony. The new guy who takes over have no interest in projects started by his predecessors. Thus Liberty Meadows TV show goes into limbo… and we wait and wait. Ultimately under the inactivity clause, all the Liberty Meadows rights revert back to me, and concludes my 2 year journey at Sony.
Now Liberty Meadows is back home, firmly under my complete control again.
Will I turn Liberty Meadows into a movie or a TV show? Sure, if the right offer comes along. However until that offer comes, I’m going to enjoy writing and drawing the next misadventures of Brandy and crew at Liberty Meadows with no suits looking over my shoulder telling me which market I should target.

Harley Quinn – Manara Parody
Frank Cho Harley Quinn sketch cover.
Wow. What a crazy couple of days it has been. My parody cover sketch of Spider-Gwen aping the infamous Manara Spider-Woman pose sent some of the hypersensitive people in a tizzy.
To be honest, I was amused and surprised by the uproar since it was, in my opinion, over nothing. It’s essentially a small group of angry and humorless people ranting against my DRAWING of a pretty woman. It’s utter nonsense. This world would be a better and a happier place if some people just grow a sense of humor and relax.
Now, I’m getting bombarded by various bloggers asking for an interview addressing this “scandal”. Instead of me wasting my breath and precious time over this non-issue replying to all the interviewers, I’ve drawn another cover sketch in response which will, hopefully, answer all the questions.
Enjoy, everyone.
