WOMEN BOOK 2 Cover - In Progress
FRANK CHO - Women 2 cover art prelim - click to view
Okay, I wasn’t too happy with how my Women Book 2 cover in watercolor was shaping up. (I think watercolor is one of the most unforgiving and hardest to control art mediums.) The color tones were uneven and bit splotchy. The overall feel was rushed and well, “amateurish”. But it had to be done and turned in for the November Diamond Preview solicitation. So once the painting was dry, I scanned it and turned it in. Knowing full well that this will not be the final
cover image. (I told Drew Gill at Image Comics art department to let the Diamond people know that the solicitation image and the final cover image will be different.)
I knew that there was no way I can fix the watercolor image with watercolor. The only way I can fix this watercolor cover painting is to use the watercolor
image as an underdrawing/underpainting for the oil painting, the art medium I prefer and have more confidence in.
However, oil painting is a long and arduous undertaking if you want to do it properly. And with my busy schedule on top of it, it’s going to be a harder task.
So I sat on the cover and brooded and waited, preparing myself.
Finally I had a small break in my schedule this weekend so I pounced on the cover, working all evening. And I’m happy how it’s turning out.
I still need to do few more passes before I varnish it, but I think, it’s finally shaping up okay.
I’ll post more images as things progress.

Sketching things I like
FRANK CHO - ballpoint pen art - click to view
It’s dark and raining outside. Everywhere I look there’s drabness.
From the floor to ceiling, colors seem to have fled as grayness filled their vacancy.
I’m bored.
I shouldn’t be bored since I have enough work to last me the next 2 years if I stop taking new assignments now. But for some reason, my productiveness has left me today. I fill like a prisoner in my studio.
I guess partly from the sheer amount of work that needs to be done and the mundaneness of some of the projects I face.
Whatever the reason, I need to jolt myself out of this inactivity and into action. For this, I start sketching things I like, to bring back the passion back into my work. So, today, I spent all day drawing nudes with my ballpoint pens, losing myself in the pen strokes…
I’m not bored anymore.

Well, gang. I can’t believe that summer is almost over and September just around the corner. It’s been a busy comic convention season for me this year. Marvel will announce my secret project at New York Comicon (or sooner). However, I won’t be attending New York Comicon and will not be at hand when they make the announcement.
Here are the final comic conventions that I’ll be attending this year.
*September 8 - 9, BALTIMORE COMIC CON
http://baltimorecomiccon.com/
*September 14 - 16, MONTREAL COMIC CON

*October 26 - 28, DETROIT FANFARE (Dearborn, Michigan)

*November 17 - 18, NORTH CAROLINA COMICON

I’ll post what I’ll sell at each convention as time nears.
