Rogue Sketch

Frank Cho Rogue sketch

- FRANK CHO : Savage Land Rogue sketch – click to view full image -

After a year of constant Marvel work, 7 days a week, it’s nice to just sit back, relax and work on my personal projects. Nothing major to report after the canceled Boston Comic Con. I actually manage just sit back and watched a movie on Netflix today. (A Korean action thriller, A Man From No Where. Those knife fights were something else.)

I’ve also been polishing up the Boston Comic Con commissions for fun. These were commissions that I did at Boston Comic Con but since the show was canceled, the fans couldn’t pick them up. So I’m holding them until they can pick’em up at later shows.

Here is the Savage Land Rogue that I finished at the hotel bar in Boston. That was a fun night just sitting and drawing with Tony Daniel and Nick Bradshaw.

That’s it for now. I’m gonna go catch another movie and enjoy the afternoon.

First Annual Randy’s Basement Comic Con

Frank Cho

This weekend was an interesting one.

Boston Comic Con was canceled by the convention center due to the city wide lock-down/manhunt for that miserable coward bomber. A news I didn’t get until I landed in Boston and was in process of checking in the hotel.

After staying overnight, I prematurely checked out of the hotel and tried to get an early flight back home but everything was booked solid until Sunday afternoon. Not off to a good start.

So I ended up in my buddy’s Randy’s house with bunch of my other friends in Hudson, New Hampshire – Which quickly spiraled into “The First Annual Randy’s Basement Comic Con”.

We had a blast.

We first went to a local strip joint after lunch to check out the day shift dancers. Not bad. Lot of pretty and limber girls. The freaky thing was I saw a stripper with NO TATTOOS. It was like seeing an Unicorn in a rodeo. Unreal. I got a lap dance from a pretty brunette which turned awkward when she told me her name was “Austin” – which is the same name as my brother.

Then we went to a great seafood restaurant where I had some of the best assortment of seafood this side of the Atlantic. The Portuguese seafood stew was fantastic.

Afterward, we played Texas hold’em poker, elimination tournament, all night in Randy’s basement. I came in second. Super fun.

Then I slept in Randy’s guest room which had a giant portrait of Jesus Christ staring at you. Made me feel awkward reading Randy’s Playboy issues in that room. But I powered through it.

On Sunday, we had a wonderful brunch and went to see “Evil Dead” at the nearby theater. Groovy.

Then I flew home.

All in all, not a bad weekend. And I would say that “The First Annual Randy’s Basement Comic Con” was a smashing success.

When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade …with vodka.

Boston Comicon updates

I just landed and arrived in the hotel to find out that the Boston Comic Con was cancelled. WTF?!

And I finished all my commissions.

(I’ve emailed all those picking up the commissions.)

I’m staying at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel

138 Saint James Ave

Boston, MA 02116

(617) 267-5300

Although most of the roads are closed, you can get to the hotel using HUNTINGTON AVENUE.

I’m staying the weekend. Looks like everyone’s trying to find a flight back home.

Most of the artists and writers are staying at the Hotel lobby and throwing a mini comic con. I’ll be there all weekend, just hanging out.

Well, gang. Savage Wolverine #4 is in stores today! It’s by far my favorite issue of the story and the one I’m most proud of.

Three words: Epic ape battle.

So run, do not walk, to your nearest comic shop and grab a copy.

Boston Comic Con News

Boston Comic Con is a go. Despite the recent tragic event at Boston Marathon, Boston Comic Con will be bigger and stronger than ever, and it’s open to public this weekend as originally scheduled.

I’ll email all the people on my convention sketch list to let them know when to pick up their illustration.
