The Super Long Tail of Voice Search

The Super Long Tail of Voice Search

With the tremendous rise of voice assistants from the likes of Amazon, Google, and Apple, the percentage of search traffic coming from voice is dramatically increasing. This presents challenges for those who want to get found in voice search because of the importance of being listed as the first result.

Racial Bias in Marketing Unwittingly Introduced by AI Algorithms

Racial Bias in Marketing Unwittingly Introduced by AI Algorithms

Artificial Intelligence in marketing has the power to help automate routine tasks by applying math to massive amounts of data. Deploying AI tools have become important for marketers to not only save time and money but to increase the success of marketing initiatives. However, marketers need to be careful because those same AI programs also have the potential to magnify the biases that you unwittingly introduce in your marketing or that already exist in the applications you use.

5 Virtual Event Ideas To Reimagine In-Person Events Online

5 Virtual Event Ideas To Reimagine In-Person Events Online

Over the past several months, in-person conferences have completely stopped all over the world. Just like sports, music, and theater, the pandemic has required that conferences and corporate events be canceled or postponed. Companies scrambling to fill the void means an explosion in virtual events as people try to recreate the in-person experience online. As we’re all adapting to the loss of in-person events, I’ve seen some great virtual events, some that miss the mark, and some that are truly awful.

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Marketing and Public Relations

The rise of Artificial Intelligence in marketing and public relations has become an important way to automate routine tasks to save time and money as well as to increase the success of marketing initiatives. AI can help marketers in many ways, such as analyzing which blog or email newsletter topics has the greatest chance of getting seen and shared, the best ways to write headlines for maximum exposure, the best time and day to post it, which channels are the best to share it on, and what hashtags are appropriate to use.

#ThanksForDelivering: How Businesses Can Support Essential Workers

“Ugh, not another COVID-19 post.” Over the past month or so, we've been saturated with blog posts, email updates, website banners on how businesses are handling this crisis. Some of it holds meaning. Some of it comes off as lip service lacking empathy.

The NEW New Rules of Marketing and PR Requires Kindness

The NEW New Rules of Marketing and PR Requires Kindness

When we can’t meet people in person, digital connection becomes way more important. I’ve been reflecting on the new seventh edition of The New Rules of Marketing and PR releasing in the middle of the pandemic. While I’m happy that my ideas may be helpful to many people as they bring their businesses online, I’m conflicted because so many businesses are abusing the online channel.

Seventh Edition of The New Rules of Marketing and PR Releases Today!

Seventh Edition of The New Rules of Marketing and PR Releases Today!

I’m super excited that the brand spanking new seventh edition of my book The New Rules of Marketing and PR is out!

When I was researching and writing the first edition way back in 2004 through 2006, I never could have imagined that it would still be selling strongly thirteen years after initial publication and it would be available in 29 languages from Albanian to Vietnamese.

Zoom Virtual Backgrounds Are Terrible For Your Brand

Zoom Virtual Backgrounds Are Terrible For Your Brand

Northern Lights? A beach with waves and the wind in a palm tree? Your logo? On a Zoom call? If you want to be taken seriously on Zoom, use a real background! Fake virtual backgrounds are cheesy.
