THESE TIMES, HOW ARE THEY CHANGING YOU?
I’ve just arrived home after such a nourishing trip to upstate New York. I was there visiting my friends Eliza and Sil Reynolds and then sharpening up my shamanic skills at the Light Body School Review at Menla. A week of deep connection, learning, devoted people, delicious food, comfy beds and nature walks with like hearted brothers and sisters was salve for my soul. I didn’t realise how much I needed it!
I haven’t written much this year as it has been such an internal year for me, which seems fitting to write today of all days, Samhain (the Celtic celebration that many know as Halloween). So much has fallen away and new seeds planted to be healed. It’s been a winter year with initiations that have invited me to learn to see in the dark. To be comfortable in the dark. To learn that seeds can only grow in the dark. Taking this moment this past week to exhale has helped me see that. I can sense a new dawn arriving in the far away chambers of my heart. I welcome its arrival and also know that the new morn is still a while off. The whispers of my third book have been circling me in the mountains above for some time now, and this one cannot be rushed. This year with all of its changes and urgencies and emergencies has changed me in ways I do not yet have words for.
I am learning that in times of emergency and urgency deep roots and slow considered action are needed.
I know I’m not alone… These times, how are they changing you?
I sense a new contract with life approaching and wonder if you do too? It’s easy to forget that we can do that when we are so busy becoming. Transmuting. Surviving. Growing. Living.
My heart’s prayer for this next year is a lot more being, a lot more nourishing, a lot more time with the back of my heart on the pulse of the earth. Never before have I craved more for the dark soil of the Mother. I can feel her calling me and see how hungry for her I have always been. And perhaps, we all have always been.
May these times soften our hearts. May they open our minds. May they nourish our exhaustion. May they anchor our souls. May they quench our thirst. May they mend our separation. May they return us to our innocence. May they remind us that we are all children of a gentle loving Earth and the Earth part of an immeasurable cosmos. May these times lead us back home to a place where all people and all bodies and all hearts are cherished, seen, respected, equal, loved and held.
These times, how are they changing you?

The more personal it feels
The more personal it feels, the more universal it actually is.
We are all innocent children looking to be seen, understood and cherished.
With wounds and traumas no matter what life has dealt.
Souls doing their best to be embodied.
Deeply longing to belong.

The power of sisterhood
This week I received the most precious email. Two women (Suzanne and Sumaa) who were introduced through an international book exchange (*googles how to be a part of one*). Suzanne sent a copy of Rise Sister Rise to Sumaa in India. After a lot of red tape, paperwork and phone calls between the two women, the book arrived. This is what Sumaa wrote to Suzanne. It touched my heart witnessing the threads of sisterhood weaving their way around the world.
Thank you Suzanne @suzannesimpson2020 and Sumaa @sumaatekur for sharing your story with me and letting me to share it with others too…
“Dear Suzanne,
Have you heard of Navratri, the Hindu festival for the nine avatars of the Goddess? We just concluded that nine-day festival today. For this period, I had fire ceremonies everyday for each of the nine avatars of the Goddess.
A small group of six of us met every morning at 7 to invoke the avatar for that day and make offerings while seeking blessings. It was a beautiful nine days with special energy all around.
You were very much with us through this journey. My friend, a Reiki master and Shamanic practitioner, saw your book (Rise Sister Rise) in my living room and instantly sensed its high energy. Every morning after the fire ceremony she would pick up your book and do a reading for each of us by randomly opening a page and reading from it.
The reading was so perfect each time, it was simply beautiful! Every day, we each got the right message at the right time. Some of us even got rituals to do, which we followed. It has already enabled a huge shift.
Thank you for the book. It had an interesting journey reaching me, and is now already transforming lives here. I wanted to share this beautiful experience with you. Also, you were in my heart during the ceremonies these past nine days. Lots of love and hugs!
I hope you’re having a peaceful week.
Happy Navratri!
Sumaa”

The reality of awakening
As we journey deeper into the closing months of this year I am reflecting on the lifting of veils that has been this year. As the volcano erupted in Hawaii the me too movement continued to explode on front pages across the globe. New lights have been shone on important issues that have previously been swept under the rug. On a global level and personal level we are been invited to see things more clearly. To change our perceptions, to see things through eyes that have been opened. This is a good thing. And like anything that involves a falling away or a death of any kind, realising this can be difficult. And necessary. And difficult. Sometimes a mourning period is required when we discover the lens we once saw the world through has now changed. When we change at a cellular level.
It can feel like the ground has been moved. This is the process of awakening. In some spiritual circles, the awakening process has been glamorised. However in my experience, more often than not the awakening is the opposite of glamorous. And it is incredible. And in these times so necessary.
In any awakening, while there can be periods of extreme bliss, insight and inspiring visions, it can also be excruciating as we attempt to put the pieces of our inner and outer lives together. This is what has been happening at a global level this year. And for many it has this been happening on a personal level too. The thing about waking up is that once awake it is impossible to go back to sleep. And sometimes it requires guts, honesty and deep devotion.
A practice that I am deeply deeply grateful for that has got me through periods like this is devotional chanting. When the world feels shaky and when I find myself swimming in the ocean of uncertainty the tides of chanting carry me to shore each and every time.
My relationship with chanting began 10 years ago and with each coming year it has gently yet firmly deepened. I have been blessed by teachers who met me where I was. Last year I graduated from my Kirtan teacher training with Nikki Slade who I had been learning from for many years. Through the years Nikki has gone on to become a dear friend who I cherish deeply (you can watch a podcast with us here).
I never expected to study the Kirtan tradition, to learn about the Vedas, the sacred language of Sanskrit that has been preserved through thousands of years) and the Indian Ragas from teachers like Hareesh Wallis and Sulekh Ruparell. And I certainly did not expect to offer chanting at my events. I find soul callings do that a lot. Call you in a direction that you least expect. What starts as something you do for yourself, soon you find yourself sharing with those around you.
This year I have yearned for home more that any other year, and chanting has been that for me. It has lead me home to the inner temple of my heart which may sound corny but has brought me more peace than I can ever put into words.
“By chanting the name, you’ve planted a bomb in your heart that will go off when you least expect it, and destroy your sense of being separate’
– Krishna Das
Sharing this devotional Bhakti space is one of my favourite things to do. If you would like to experience the healing qualities of this ancient sacred lineage, come sing with me and listen to the whispers of your soul. I have three more events of the year in London, the New Forest and Dublin. You can find out more details here.

Activated Earth
We live in a time where many of us have we have become disconnected from the land beneath us. Somewhere along the way a severing happened. A moment where it became too painful to stay connected. And as such we find ourselves wondering where we truly belong. Wandering around not feeling held. Supported. At home. Shapeshifting our way through lives, cities, friends and experiences, looking to others to fill the void of the holding and belonging of what the earth once gave us. Taking. Clutching. Conquering. Longing for others to receive us fully as the Mother once did. Clueless to the truth that she is still there waiting for us to remember Her and activate the part in us that is so longing to receive her embrace.
When we consciously connect with the earth a veil is lifted and the earth opens up and receives you more fully. You are able to be held fully and release what no longer serves, stagnant energy falls away and you become connected to all things on the planet. When you connect with the electromagnet pulse between you both is able to move, to come alive and as it does each of your cells come more alive too. As you connect with the earth and honour the keepers of it, of those who came before you. As you honour them, the land opens up more fully and those ancestors don’t just become guardians of the land, but guardians of you too.

Inner Peace with Nikki Slade
If you’ve been to one of my events or are part of the Rise Sister Rise Membership you will know how influential Kirtan chanting has been in my life.
After chanting for the past 10 years, last year I graduated from my Bhakti Kirtan Teacher Training I was honoured to be interviewed by my teacher and dear friend Nikki Slade alongside Producer Gerry Edwards on Panda Radio where we spoke about the power of the voice, rock bottoms, the awakening process, the fear of sharing your voice and I shared 4 of my all time favourite songs!

I believe that we all have a unique note to play in the orchestra of life. I believe that when you share your soul’s voice you unlock something in the Universe and call a missing piece of you home. Our individual voice is the most powerful sound current on the planet.
If you have kept your soul’s voice silenced or held back, chanting could be truly life changing for you. As we chant we don’t just heal ourselves, we also chant for all those who do not have a voice and the healing of all. In John (1:1) it says that ‘sound or vibration is the most powerful force in the Universe.’ I couldn’t agree more.

On questioning everything
The biggest challenges are designed to at first separate you from your faith. Let them. Do not judge yourself when you question it all. When you doubt your beliefs, your devotion, your God/dess, your entire existence.
It is in these times that we are meant to. It does not matter how long you stay away. How much you ignore your faith. How tightly you close your heart. How long you dwell in your separateness.
Each challenge is an opportunity to deepen. But first we might retract. To come up to the surface before diving once more to the depths. Eventually you will return to the pearls. Even deeper than before.

For those going through sacred pain right now
Soon these times of sacred birthing will be over. Soon. Soon. Soon. These moments of devastating separation, of polarity, of being wrongly accused, not accurately seen, misunderstood, scapegoated, of confusion… Soon. Soon. Soon, all will be but a breath in the winds of time.
This moment matters. And soon what feels like it will matter will not. Trust your part in the sacred play. Trust that these times are birthing times for humanity. For all of us. Both individually and collectively. Kali Durga times. Holy birthing times.
It is both about you and not about you at all. Trust your part in the holy birth. In the contractions. In the pressure. In the void. In the darkness. In the push. Sweet relief is coming. Sweetness is coming again. Soon. Soon. Soon.

Interview with my Kirktan Teacher; Nikki Slade on Panda Radio
If you’ve been to one of my events or are part of the Rise Sister Rise Sisterhood you will know how much I adore chanting and love my harmonium! I was introduced to Chanting through connecting with my Kirtan Teacher; Nikki Slade who really helped me step into sharing my souls voice and allow myself to be truly seen and heard which has been one of my BIGGEST fears!
I really do believe that we all have a beautiful note to play in order to orchestrate the perfect symphony. We do this by sharing our souls voice. As Sera Beak beautifully puts it; ‘the world needs your unique tone in order to harmonize.’ When you share your voice you unlock something in the Universe and call a missing piece of you home. Our individual voice is the most powerful sound current on the planet. If you have kept your soul’s voice silenced or held back, chanting could be truly life changing for you. As we chant we don’t just heal ourselves, we also chant for all those who do not have a voice and the healing of all. In John (1:1) it says that ‘sound or vibration is the most powerful force in the Universe.’ I couldn’t agree more!
By being personally moved through Chanting and Graduating in my Bhakti Kirtan Teacher Training I was honoured to be interviewed by my dear friend; Nikki Slade and Producer Gerry Edwards on Panda Radio where we spoke about the power of the voice, rock bottoms, the awakening process, the fear of sharing your voice and I shared 4 of my all time favourite songs! Who doesn’t love a good song to dance too! I also sang one of my original chants to connect with the Goddess Oshun; who is the Mother of the sweet waters and all children.

I had the best time on Panda Radio and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Click here to listen.
If you feel called to Chanting and Kirtan Training you can find more information on Nikki’s website here.
It’s time to clear the chimney of your soul so those around you can hear the music you came to share. Let the sharing of your voice be your own medicine.
