Temple of Philae

A photo extract from my diary from my incredible trip through the sacred sites of ancient Egypt. Thank you to my guides.
One of the most incredibly touching, familiar, love filled, powerful places I’ve ever been. She was once underwater. But not anymore. The stone people who surround her guard her so unquestionably that it brought me to my knees.

The Temple of Hatshepsut

I found this one of the most rejuvenating temples. She was quiet in her whispers and so we each leaned in to listen. Hatshepsut is thought to have been the second known female Pharaoh. If a temple were to invite you to drink from its waters this would be it. It is obvious to us all how different the feminine temples are from those of the masculine Gods and Pharaohs. And how long we have been cut off from their nourishing nectar. But not now. The sweet waters of the Great Mother, will soon be bubbling once more.
I’m told that the energy hasn’t always been this nourishing and open. It makes me think perhaps the gates are reopening along with all of the healing that has been happening. With all the voices that are being heard and reclaimed and all that is being unbound. There is a way to go, but with each new day we are getting closer and closer.

Temple of Dendera (Hathor)

Dendera Temple felt like walking into a portal. After spending the morning in the powerful energies of the temple of Philae, Aswan, we all fell asleep on our bus receiving powerful transmissions. I awoke to find myself looking up at a giant eye in the centre of a community square in a nearby town near Dendera. I could feel the temple of Hathor close. Upon walking through the gates and beneath the great pillars I lay on the cool temple floor allowing the detailed murals to whisper. Snakes and stars, Goddesses and flying machines – what were the ancients trying to say? What did they know and what technology did they have that we do not today? I lost the rest of the group and so let myself be led up a very steep staircase to the rooftop of the temple. Here I wandered and found myself in an initiation chamber once again looking up at the incredible art filled ceiling. I felt the presence of Hathor, or rather the Hathors saying Birth is a great initiation for the soul. And indeed it is.

Such a palpable, humbling and memorable experience today visiting the tombs in the incredible Valley of the Kings. Spotted Jesus and Coptic Cross graffiti in Ramses’ Tomb.

Insisde the great pyramid

Today was an initiation in more ways than I am yet to comprehend. We woke with the dawn & the closer we got I could feel the energy rising. By the time we saw Her the sun was at its highest. This was the second time I had come here, and this time she invited me in. There’s so much we don’t know about the ancients, but one thing I feel is that they knew much more than we do about the power of sound, our connection with the stars & living beyond dying. We made our way into the body of what is arguably one of the most powerful places on the planet.
After crawling in the darkness towards on my hands and knees in a tunnel that got narrower and narrower we made it to the Queen’s Chamber (was freaking out too much to take any pics). As someone who has been claustrophobic my entire life I broke down when I made it there. It was my second time in Egypt, the first in 2010 I was not ready to journey in, or perhaps I knew I needed to do it in reverence. I am reminded that most places of initiations work like this… they invite the initiate to go through a certain dying to arrive there. This time I was surrounded by the most tender hearted men who called me forth and helped me to my feet. How blessed to share this place with such reverence.
After meditating in the majesty of the Queen’s Chamber we then climbed while hunched over to the King’s chamber (pic shown) which was directly above. Here we were blessed to sing our cells back to sovereignty as the powerful vibrations of this sacred chamber echoed from the bones of the earth to the marrow of our own. We chanted each other’s name one by one. It felt like tender sweet reserection. Hours felt like minutes as we crawled from the womb of the pyramid on hands and knees and were birthed into the now dark star lit sky. The moonlight gently whispering that everything is born and grows in the darkness. A day and a moment that will echo forever in the samskara of my soul. One I feel so deeply fortunate to be able to have experienced. As destiny would have it, I was able to share it with my husband who 3 years ago became my husband @craiggourlay

How To Make An Altar
Making altars grounds me. My shamanic Mesa (essentially a portable altar not in this picture) is wrapped in the material from a baby pillow that the hospital gave my mum and dad because I came a month early and there was no mattress in the bassinet. I chose this material because in my shamanic training my teacher taught me that the shamans of Peru who knew they were shamans from a young age would wrap their altar in their baby blanket, representing the transition from the biological mother to The Mother and how The Mother now holds them. This is how I feel when I create an altar, which to me is essentially an area of devotion and a place for the soul. An external representation of the inner temple that resides within. A place to feed, listen to and honour our prayers and soul. It brings me so much comfort and creating it ritualistically allows me to step into the space of the soul. To quite literally create an altered space of being.
How to make an Altar:
1: Choose a place for your altar.
Size does not matter, intention does. If you live with others and it’s hard to find personal space, you can use a window sill or even a portable altar by your bedside table.
2: Create your altar
Choose sacred items to create your altar that make you feel connected to your soul. There are no rules, just choose whatever makes your soul feel good. This could be a candle, prayer card, statue, incense, books, flowers, anything that makes your heart open.
3: Tend to your altar
Your altar is a place where you can go to pray, meditate, ask for support and set your intentions for the day. It is an altered space – meaning, it has the power to shift you into the space of the soul. You can think of it as a physical anchor. A resting space for your soul. You might want to create a daily ritual where you light a candle, meditate or say a sort prayer. Don’t overthink it; just go with what feels good.

Answer your soul’s calling
Your guidance is divinely guided. You are being called to answer the call of your soul. It might be scary, it might not make sense, but if you trust your soul’s yearnings, you will live a life beyond what your mind could possibly imagine. Answering your soul’s calling is not a one-time thing, rather a lifelong dance. Deep down, you already know what you long for. What your soul yearns for.
Whatever you are called to do, that is your calling. Don’t overthink it. Don’t wait for permission. Just say YES. Most people are waiting for a step-by-step plan before they take the first step. But intuition doesn’t work like that. It takes faith and courage to answer the calls of your soul. And that’s why most people don’t do it. But you are not most people.
You are in exactly the right place to answer your calling now. You don’t need to know the whole plan. You don’t even need to know where it is leading. You just need to take the next step. No one has ever had the complete, perfect plan. There is no end destination. There is no right or wrong way to do it and you do NOT need permission from anyone else.
Sometimes the more resistance we have around answering a soul calling, the more important it is to our soul’s growth.
