Deadly Curiosities Book 6
by Gail Z. Martin
Genre: Supernatural Mystery Adventure
A haunted tapestry. A cursed dynasty. Dark magic, and a supernatural
creature with an insatiable hunger.
Cassidy Kincaide and the Deadly
Curiosities crew get a call from a desperate real estate investor to
un-haunt a mansion that has belonged to a family of dark witches for
generations. Inside, a hidden chamber reveals a legacy of
supernatural power, a dangerous tapestry woven with malicious magic
and defiant ghosts that refuse to accept the house’s new ownership.
When the dust settles, the family’s witch and the djinn that has
influenced the dynasty’s fortunes for more than a century are
missing—and bent on vengeance.
A mysterious pop-up gallery
sells magical tapestries to Charleston’s art collectors, but good
luck quickly turns bad as the woven pieces permit the djinn to drain
and kill the owners. Meanwhile, Cassidy’s best friend, Teag Logan,
and his fiancé, Anthony Benton, finalize plans for their wedding,
dodging mama drama and supernatural setbacks.
When Cassidy and her allies go
after the witch and the djinn, they find themselves targeted by magic
that can bend perception and reshape reality. The psychic pain caused
by the cursed tapestries fuels the power of the djinn and the dark
witch, setting up a showdown with the Alliance for the soul of
Charleston.
Can they stop the witch, defeat the djinn, destroy the tapestries, and still make it to the wedding on time?

The Mutiny of the American Foreign Legions
They fought America’s wars, now they’re fighting for their own freedom.
The Mutiny of the American Foreign Legion
Rebels of the American Hemisphere Book 1
by Neal Alexander
Genre: Thriller
Hugo Ayala has burned his bridges with the Colombian military by
denouncing murders committed by his former officers. After surviving
a bloody assignment in Yemen with an American security company, he
completes U.S. Army basic training. But he’s blocked from becoming a
green card soldier by new anti-immigration laws. He stays on as an
illegal, and joins the American Foreign Legion, an immigration rights
group whose members have fought for the USA.
Meanwhile, Immigration and Customs Enforcement is detaining and deporting
thousands of people a day, without due process. But now the
communities being targeted include Hugo and others who know how to
fight back. The leader of the AFL has his own political backers and
doubtful motives. As each side ratchets up the violence, American
political unity starts to crack.
This gripping thriller which draws on current events and little-known facts:
–
Many non-citizens serve in the US armed forces and as employees of
American security contractors. For example, the second US Marine

of these green card soldiers is subtitled “Between Model Immigrant and Security Threat”.
– Border Patrol agents “have gone from having one of the most obscure jobs in law enforcement to
one of the most hated,” according to the New York Times.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deport people without due
process, including US Citizens.
– A recent Chicago Tribune op-ed describes how current how the current “struggles over
immigration echo the conflict over slavery”. Confrontations in
Texas over immigration have been described as “civil war” in the New York Times.

JANE AUSTEN LIED TO ME
JANE AUSTEN LIED TO ME
Jeanette Watts
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Romantic Comedy Audiobook
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
What college girl doesn’t dream of meeting Mr. Darcy? Lizzy was certainly no exception. But when Darcy Fitzwilliam comes into her life, he turns out to be every bit as aggravating as Elizabeth Bennett’s Fitzwilliam Darcy. So what’s a modern girl to think, except….
How could my hero be so wrong?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT
Sept 5
Well! That was interesting. My roommate invited me along to this frat party she was going to. She went through something called rush week, and she is now pledged to a sorority. She said the frats are less formal than the sororities, and even though I wasn’t a pledge I could go with her. I figured, why not, it should be fun, right?
I got to meet the guy she’s chasing. I couldn’t blame her for being interested. He’s cute, and sweet, and considerate, and a total people-pleaser. One of his parents must be the demanding sort who is never happy.
He introduced us to his friend… whose name is Darcy Fitzwilliam! I wasn’t sure at first that the guy wasn’t just pulling our legs.
“Your mother obviously loves Jane Austen,” I laughed.
“Obviously,” he answered. Not much to go by.
“I love Pride and Prejudice,” I continued.
“I hate Pride and Prejudice,” I can only describe the look he was giving me as hostile.
“I think you will find yourself very much in a minority,” I answered, returning his look with one of my own.
We didn’t talk any more that night. Talk about getting off on the wrong foot!
Q & A With …
Tell us about you as a person.
My friends tell me that I collect people. It’s a very apt observation. I love people. I am always interested to know their story, what makes them tick. My fourth grade teacher told my mother that’s what I do. She says I used to stay after school to talk to her just to figure her out how she ticked. It has never stopped being true. I talk a lot, but I also listen a lot. I want to be the dumbest person in the room. Otherwise, how are you going to learn anything? I know people who want to be the smartest person in the room. No thanks.
I am also very much a canine. I usually travel in a pack. One friend once referred to our group as herd animals. I corrected her “No, we are pack animals not herd animals.” My friend asked “What’s the difference?” I had to explain pack animals eat herd animals.
If you could hang out with one famous person for one day, who would it be and why?
Well, of course, there’s only one answer for this question considering the nature of the book I’m here to talk about: Jane Austen! I have a lot of questions for her. The problem is, she would have to want to talk to me. She was something of a curmudgeon, so I would probably have to convince her to talk to me. But I believe I would win her over, because she and I share a great love of dancing. And pretty dresses.
What’s the story behind your latest book?
I am celebrating the release of the brand new audiobook for my romantic comedy, Jane Austen Lied to Me! It has been a long time in the making, but I am thrilled to be able to be the first audiobook released with the voice of the very talented Kristyna Zaharek. She will make you laugh, cry, and be very glad that you aren’t in college anymore.
What advice do you have for other writers who want to get the word out about their latest book?
Be prepared to work. It takes at least twice as much work to promote a book as it does to write it. Once the writing is done, the real work hasn’t even begun. Also, for the most part, you just cannot be cheap. You have to spend a lot of money to promote books. Once you include self- published books, there are 4 million new books being published each year. Every one of them trying to find an audience. What are you going to do to distinguish yourself from the rest of the 4 million new books that just came out? Remember, that’s just new books this year. There were 4 million books last year, too, still trying to find readers.
List 5 things on your bucket list.
1. I am currently working on this item: I am a historical dance instructor. I teach dances from the Renaissance through the 1960s at history museums, to Girl Scout troops, elementary schools, and workshops for elementary school teachers so that they can go home and show their students. In our currently fractured society, I think we suffer because people do not dance together in our communities. In order to heal, it would help if people danced together. In my myopic view of the Universe, every elementary school child in the United States should learn one dance the way the Continental soldiers danced in the Revolutionary War, and one dance from the year their state entered the Union. They should also know one dance from their own personal ethnic background, and a dance from the American tribe that once lived on the soil where they live. That obviously requires more dance teachers than just me. But these are ALL dances that are significant to our personal histories. They should be part of what makes us tick, part of what connects us to each other and our past.
2. I want to live in New England at some point before I die. I adore New England! Every time I get up to Massachusetts or Rhode Island, I am euphorically happy. I swear I used to live there in a past reincarnation, and a portion of my soul just wants to go home for a while.
3. I want to finish the long list of books that are sitting half-completed in my computer! I have books set in Elizabethan England, a third book to go with the two I have set in Pittsburgh in the Industrial Revolution, a trilogy on Abraham Lincoln, and a book set in Chicago around the Turn of the Century. I have multiple books that are partially set in New York City… but I was born in Chicago. I love New York, but I’m a Chicago girl, and I need to pay homage to the city of my birth.
4. I want to learn Argentine Tango, and flamenco dancing. I mean, really learn. I have been to workshops. But these are not dances that you learn by taking a few hours here or there, or even full weekends of classes. These are dances that you need to do for three years before you stop being a beginner. While I’m at it, I need to learn Carolina shag. I lived in North Carolina for three years, during which time I did not make the opportunity to go to shag classes. I thought I had more time, and then I had to move again. I am very annoyed with myself for having lost an obvious opportunity.
5. There are so many places that I need to travel to! I have wanted to go to Egypt since I was 10 years old, and my dad’s aunt Heddy, who was the coolest lady ever, just came home from her trip to Egypt. That’s when I found out that it is a perfectly reasonable life choice to not have kids, and travel instead. I have not yet been to Bulgaria for the big festival folk festival in Koprivchitsa. I really want to go to Norway and see the fjords, and to Poland to see where my grandparents came from, and Vienna to dance at all the balls during “The Season,” and to Australia and see… everything. I haven’t been to Alaska or Maine. Other than those 2, I think I have now been in the rest of the states. I also have not seen the northern lights since I lived in Minnesota, and I need to see the northern lights again. It is one of the most profound experiences to watch the sky dancing with light
Any final thoughts?
For any history lovers among your readers, I highly recommend checking out my TikTok account, and my YouTube channel, both labeled History is My Playground. It is a random collection of little historical mysteries, historical costuming, historical architecture, historical dancing of course, and other fun tidbits I love to share with other people who find joy in connecting with the past.
Genre:
Contemporary MC Romance
She’s the MC President’s
daughter, she’s off limits, we’re on a road trip together and
there’s only one bed!
Charlie is spontaneous and
wild. She’s utterly gorgeous and intent on contradicting everything
I say.
She frustrates the heck out of me and turns me on in
equal measure.
I shouldn’t fall for the feisty MC President’s
daughter.
She’s off limits and fifteen years younger than me.
I’m ex-military and stuck in my ways, she’s a free
spirit who follows her heart.
We’re opposites in every way.
But when we’re stuck on a road trip together, and there’s
only one bed I don’t know how long this ex-soldier’s defences
will hold…
Wild Child is a forbidden love, age gap,
forced proximity, steamy romance novella featuring an ex-military
biker and the curvy younger woman who’s off limits.
Wild Ride
Wild Heart Mountain: Wild Riders MC Book 1
If an attractive ex-military biker offered to give you anything you desired, what would you ask
for?
Danni
Mom always made the decisions for me: Go to college, get a good job in
the city, find a nice man in a suit.
Instead, I’ve lost my job
and I’ve lost my apartment. I’m single, I still have my
v-card, and I’m wildly attracted to the bearded, tattooed
biker who rescued me and my broken-down Caddy.
I’ve only ever
done things to please Mom until I meet Colter.
He offers me a weekend of yes. One entire weekend where he will do whatever I ask of
him.
It’s a fun game at first, but as the weekend goes on, I
realize the only thing I want from him is one he’s not prepared to
give: his heart.
Colter
I don’t do relationships. I have my MC club, my vintage bike
collection, and my oversized dog. Women are trouble and best left
alone.
But when I see Danni, stranded on the side of my mountain
and looking like a pin-up straight out of the fifties, I can’t
resist. It’s been a long time since I let a woman on the back of my
bike. But Danni is one curvy exception.
She’s spent too long
pleasing others, and now it’s my duty to please her.
As long as she knows it’s just for the weekend…
Wild Ride is a forced proximity steamy instalove age gap romance featuring an
ex-military mountain man biker and the curvy younger woman who steals
his heart.
Authors Note: Wild Ride is a short steamy story that can be read in a couple
DARK WALKER SERIES
DARK WALKER SERIES
Shelly Campbell
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Speculative Fiction/Horror/ Dark Sci-fi
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Series Blurb:
When we were children, they told us monsters weren’t real. They were dead wrong.
It’s just a closet door with a skeleton key, but when David opens it, he unlocks a gateway to a sinister world that’s bent on destroying everything and everyone he loves. Some doors are better left closed.
Embark on a thrilling journey with the Dark Walker Series, and be transported into an interdimensional tale of monsters, lies and self-discovery. Where the terror of darkness is real and the line between ally and enemy is as thin as a blade.
“Equal parts coming of age story and otherworldly horror, Gulf probes the depths of loneliness, loss of identity and childhood trauma. It is a true treat for fans of the genre and had me clutched in its razor-clawed hands from the first word to the last.” -C.M. Forest author of Infested
Book One Blurb:
Seventeen-year-old David is fading from his world, like a Polaroid picture in reverse. He longs to feel connected to something bigger.
When his brothers discover the new extension at the rental cottage comes with a locked door, David finds the key first. Expecting to claim a bedroom, he opens a dimensional gateway instead, exploring abandoned versions of his world in different timelines, 1960s muscle cars alternating with crumbling cottages.
Except now the dimensional bridge won’t close, and something hungry claws the door at night. David scours for clues to break the bridge, but each trip to the other side makes him fade more on his. Even if he succeeds, he risks severing his connection to his own world, and dying on the wrong side, forgotten.
Book Two Blurb:
There are doors that open to other worlds, but it’s no fairytale on the other side.
I thought otherworldly monsters bent on devouring my whole world starting with my family trumped everything. Turns out, I was wrong. My world’s only one of thousands facing annihilation from the maneaters that tried to eat me alive. Charlie saved me, rolled into my life on a motorcycle, and rescued me.
Problem is, I’m the Embassy’s property now. They’re the interdimensional agency tasked with stemming the flow of ravenous aliens into our universe, but they seem more interested in studying me. I crashed a gateway in a way they’ve never seen. The Embassy wants to replicate that. I think they want to use me as a war weapon.
If I don’t convince Charlie to help me escape, I’ll be an Embassy science experiment for the rest of my short life, or worse, eternally trapped in the dark hell that fills the spaces between worlds.
EXCERPT
Certain my family is gone, I cross to the five-panel in two strides, twist the key into the lock, and push the door.
It doesn’t open.
Of course it doesn’t, idiot. It’s still hung like a closet door. It opens out, not in.
I pull.
Mirror.
That’s the first thought that strikes me as I take in the exact duplicate of the living room I’m standing in. Same green, crushed velvet sofa bed sagging behind me. Identical chipped melamine cabinets. Same painted windmills on the porcelain tile backsplash—wait.
No me.
No reflection of me. Tentative as Alice in bloody Wonderland, I pull the black skeleton key from its hole and crane my head through the doorway. No dirty breakfast dishes, but when I look over my shoulder, there’s still stacks of egg-yolk spackled tin plates beside our sink. Crumpled under one arm of the hide-a-bed is my plaid blanket, but the one in front of me is empty. Looks dusty.
“What the hell, Everett?” This is creepy.
The ole bugger’s built an exact mirror image of the room next door. Where on earth did he find the twin to that green monster of a couch? There’s even a spring beckoning through the same spot in the back cushion.
Got an eye for detail, hasn’t he?
Same woodstove too, only this one has a cold, crusty frying pan on it. I can still feel the heat on my back from ours across the wall.
The pine planking creaks under my next step, and I jump and then smile, but I’m pretty sure it ends up as a snarl. An odd feeling consumes me whole, the one I had just before Sam Ren and his gorilla wingmen beat the piss out of me behind the Dairy Queen. A curdled sense of approaching doom slithers through my lungs.
Get out.
Primal instinct presses me back a step toward the door, but I hold fast there, like a dumbass, like I waited while Sam Ren eased toward me in the Dairy Queen parking lot.
Shaking out my hands and hissing through my teeth, I scan the room trying to identify what’s wrong, because something is. Something is very wrong, and it’s not just the duplicate room, or the draft emanating from here at night. It takes a few seconds to pin it down. The out-of-place thing. My throat spasms when I see it. I swallow and shift to the balls of my feet.
“Window,” I whisper.
AUTHOR Bio and Links:
At a young age, Shelly Campbell wanted to be an air show pilot or a pirate, possibly a dragon and definitely a writer and artist. She’s piloted a Cessna 172 through spins and stalls, and sailed up the east coast on a tall ship barque—mostly without projectile vomiting. In the end, Shelly found writing and drawing dragons to be so much easier on the stomach. Shelly writes speculative fiction ranging from grimdark fantasy, to sci-fi and horror. She’d love to hear from you.
Q & A With Shelly Campbell author of the Dark Walker series.
Tell us about you as a person.
Ah, you’re presuming that I’m a person. Correct. No AI writing or art here. Wait. That sounds like something AI would say. I’m human, honest. I like cozy winter nights in front of a fireplace with a rum and coke in hand and a good book. During summer, I enjoy paddle-boarding on mountain lakes, and filling my pockets with rocks that simply must come home with me to my tiny backyard pond. I love watching my boys play sports and cheering with enough gusto to embarrass them thoroughly. My husband tolerates all of this, as well as the hours and hours I spend clacking away at a keyboard playing in imaginary worlds.
If you could hang out with one famous person for one day, who would it be and why?
Living or dead? If living, I’m going for pure fun factor here. Ryan Reynolds. He’s a fellow Canadian, and he seems like a genuinely fun guy to hang out with for a day. Dead. Albert Einstein, because how cool would it to spend time with someone who is that profoundly intelligent, passionate, and curious about how the world around them works? Plus, Albert looked like he had a bit of a goofy streak. Goofy people are my people.
What’s the story behind your latest book?
Gulf, book one, is a coming-of-age quiet horror story that plays with the idea of invisibility. As a teen, I felt a bit invisible, but at the same time, I wanted to make big changes, and have an impact on the world I was growing up in. It’s a weird dichotomy wanting to do all the big things but feeling like you’re ill-equipped to do so. I wanted to amplify that for David. He is literally becoming invisible. He’s found a key to a locked door, but now nocturnal monsters on the other side are trying to get through to devour his family, and he can’t warn the people he loves because they no longer see or hear him.
Breach, book two, takes on more of a sci-fi/horror feel. It’s got Doctor Who vibes. Now, the boy who was invisible is the guy everyone wants a piece of. David is dealing with bigger worlds, there’s a larger cast, and he gets into deeper trouble because the people around him are betraying him, and he doesn’t know who to trust. It lays the groundwork for a whirlwind ride of a book 3 (which is coming out in early 2025). I can’t wait for you all to dive into David’s world(s)!
What advice do you have for other writers who want to get the word out about their latest book?
Well, I need to do a better job of this myself, honestly. Authors, your book is invisible when it releases. It truly is. The market is flooded with millions of new releases on a daily basis, and, unless you have a marketing team and a pile of cash burning a hole in your pocket, you need to work your tail off to get your books in front of reader’s faces. They can’t love your book if they don’t know it exists. Also, you’re competing against corporations. So, you’ve got to get creative. For myself, I get a lot of traction selling at in-person events like comic-cons or quirky gift markets. I don’t make a lot of money, but readers get to meet me face-to-face, and I sell more books monthly than I do online. Readers want a connection. They want to meet the person behind the story they’re reading. Plus, I enjoy attending events like these.
What do you enjoy that will also connect you to your readers?
It doesn’t even have to be book related. Lean into that, but don’t burn yourself out. You are not a corporation, friend. You’re human. Luckily, books don’t expire, and you can market as best you can at your own pace. This is a marathon, not a sprint.
List 5 things on your bucket list.
Oh, good question! I’m a bit stumped here. Becoming a published author and doing my own cover art were on my bucket list, but I’ve been fortunate enough to tick those both of my list. I haven’t given a lot of thought to what comes next, but if I were to choose in the moment—in no particular order:
1. Get one of my books to the point where it sells more than 10,000 copies. I’m small fry, and that’d make me feel pretty good.
2. Make enough writing books to take a nice vacation somewhere once a year.
3. Get in good enough shape to do a chin-up in case I’m ever hanging off a helicopter, like in the movies, so I could pull myself back onboard.
4. Fly in a fighter jet without puking.
5. Be the kind of parent my adult kids want to come home to, like they genuinely want to hang out a couple times a month. That’d be cool. I love my parents and want to hang out more with them, but don’t visit nearly enough.
Any final thoughts?
Just a hearty thanks for having me on. Reviewers and bloggers do so much for increasing an author’s visibility out of the goodness of their hearts. Truly. A thousand thank you’s.
