Mirrored Wounds
When the present mirrors her past wounds, Laura begins to unravel
Mirrored Wounds
by Rebecca Christo
Genre: Contemporary Women’s Fiction, Psychological Mystery
Laura’s life was finally good. She’d freed herself from the clutches
of an abusive partner, left an unrewarding career as an interior
designer to follow her dreams of becoming a writer, and was finally
happy. And things were only getting better. Her very first novel had
struck a chord with readers and become a bestseller, but when the
murder she’d described in its pages suddenly gets played out in real
life, with her beloved husband as the victim, it is obvious to her
that she looks guilty, despite having an alibi that would have been
difficult to fake.
As the investigation proceeds, with
little or no progress being made, bizarre happenings in the
security-protected home she’d shared with her husband have her
questioning her own sanity, despite the reassurance of her therapist.
Could she have murdered the first man to ever make her feel truly
loved and secure and then just … forgotten somehow? Surely not. But
as even more troubling events come to light, with no logical
explanation besides her own guilt, she finds herself questioning
everything she knows to be true … including her own innocence.

Avid dog lover and Author Rebecca Christo was born in Toronto,
Ontario, where she developed an early love of both reading and
writing. Of particular interest to her was creating a story with
emotionally mature content that was still entertaining enough to be
read for fun on a relaxing vacation. She hopes she’s succeeded with
her very first published novel: Mirrored Wounds.
When she’s not travelling with her husband, Darcy Christo, Rebecca
enjoys spending time with him, her children Ali, Brittany and
Maxwell, and her puppies (Lucy and Winston) in Wasaga Beach, Ontario

GENRE: Fantasy, Science Fiction

BLURB:
Will it end in peace or a silvery dose of fate?
Henna’s manipulation knows no bounds,
Denida is still the object of her prophecy, while Lucifer, God, and Gabriel remain in her sights.
Having seen her son, Nina is more determined than ever to bring him back from Henna’s world of dead souls. Meanwhile, the Darkness runs rampant across the Underworlds and on Earth as Lucifer’s grief over Heavani’s death overwhelms him.
Everyone has their own goals and ends, but one thing is inescapable: the bright silvery path that Henna willed.
Can these characters escape destiny’s hold on them, or will they become pawns in Henna’s quest for revenge?

EXCERPT
Den, Denida’s human form, trotted from his grandparent’s house with a smile painted across his face. He admired the sunny sky before skipping down the road, humming to himself.
He’s barely grown. Odin clenched his scepter. “We have to do it within one week.” He glared in through a window, then turned to Loki. “I’ll leave the task to you; don’t fail me.”
Loki chuckled. “Why bother? They’re lowly humans.”
“I want to expedite Henna’s prophecy. We have waited in this world long enough. This is your chance to show me that I can rely on you, Loki.”
“But what I still don’t understand is: why? Isn’t that kid Henna’s chosen one?”
Odin adjusted his grip on his scepter. “His soul form is, not the boy, but certain events must fall into place to achieve Henna’s desired outcome, instead of a less desirable one.”
“Understood.” Loki smirked.
“You must use dark magic to kill the boy’s grandmother within one week. I can’t specify how important that is.”
Loki’s eyes widened. “To frame Lucifer?”
Odin sighed. “Aren’t you attentive today.” He leaned closer to Loki. “Correct.”

As a Christmas Child, I believe magic is everywhere, especially during the winter, and I try to weave that magic into my stories. After all, my firm belief in karma and destiny has shaped who I am, so it should guide my stories, as well.
I was born and raised in Denmark, but faced many challenges during my life, one of which was my inability to write my stories in Danish! I’ve had my stories brewing in my head since I was a child and struggled for years to express them properly. After recovering from a diabetic attack that left me hospitalized, I managed to find my writer’s voice in English, and am thrilled to now have the ability to share my tales with you.

Q& A With …
Tell us about you as a person.
I am a Christmas Child with a dog and a cat, and I’m the only boy in a flock on four. I’ve been writing since 2017, following an incident that left me paralyzed. After I recovered from that condition, I wrote my first novel.
If you could hang out with one famous person for one day, who would it be and why?
Famous? I don’t know… nowadays, most of the people I would want to be with are dead and buried. (Unless they were cremated)
What’s the story behind your latest book?
Denida is the MC. He is fighting a battle against time, trying to stop Henna from manipulating him and others to bring about her will, while still trying to get through to the Devil before the world is annihilated.
What advice do you have for other writers who want to get the word out about their latest book?
Keep trying; I’m still at it, too!
List 5 things on your bucket list.
After my incident, I did most of those things. Life is short, I knew I had come close to it being the end, so I took as many precautions as I could.
Any final thoughts?
Let’s all enjoy life while we can. I enjoyed telling and writing these stories, and hope you get a chance to enjoy them, too!

A dark, gritty post-apocalyptic tale of love, loathing, & survival!
Tribes
by Mia Frances
Genre: Post-Apocalyptic Dystopian, Dark Romantic Suspense
A dark, gritty post-apocalyptic tale of love, loathing, &
survival!
Alex, her sisters, and their kids are on their way to her camp in the
Adirondack Mountains for the Columbus Day weekend when the
unthinkable happens. A voice on the radio warns the country is under
attack! Greeted by guns and bullets when they try to seek shelter,
they’re forced to hide in a cave to wait out the fallout.
After two weeks in their dank hole, Alex wakes up one morning to discover her sisters
gone. They’ve taken the rented minibus and returned to the city to
search for their husbands, leaving Alex to care for her 7 nieces and
nephews. It’s an arduous 35-mile hike through the mountains to her
camp…a journey through hell!
Society is devolving. The strong: looters, murderers, and rapists; preying on
the weak. The small hamlets and villages they pass through have
become killing fields, as survivors battle each other for the few
remaining supplies. Above them, the skies are growing darker every
day, blocking out the sun. Temperatures are plummeting. Winter is
coming early.
Along the way, Alex rescues two starving orphans whose mother was murdered by marauders.
In her struggle to keep the children alive, Alex stumbles on a hidden
cache of food only to discover it’s guarded by a man who’ll haunt her
nightmares. Half guardian angel, half demon. Both barbarian and
benefactor. A strange mixture of brutality and gentleness, cruelty
and caring. A man named Wolf!
This book contains explicit, non-consensual sexual scenes, spankings, and
elements of power exchange, which may offend or trigger some readers.

PLAYING ARMY
PLAYING ARMY
Nancy Stroer
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: UpLit / domestic war
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
It’s 1995 and the Army units of Fort Stewart, Georgia are gearing up to deploy to Bosnia, but Lieutenant Minerva Mills has no intention of going to war-torn eastern Europe. Her father disappeared in Vietnam and, desperate for some kind of connection to him, she’s determined to go on a long-promised tour to Asia. But the Colonel will only release her on two conditions—that she reform the rag-tag Headquarters Company so they’re ready for the peacekeeping mission, and that she get her weight within Army regs, whichever comes second. Min only has one summer to kick everyone’s butts into shape but the harder she plays Army, the more the soldiers—and her body—rebel. If she can’t even get the other women on her side, much less lose those eight lousy pounds, she’ll never have another chance to stand where her father once stood in Vietnam, feeling what he felt. The Colonel may sweep her along to Bosnia or throw her out of the Army altogether. Can you fake it until you make it? Min is about to find out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT
I sucked in my gut and forced the top button of my BDU trousers through the hole. Pounds never melted off me like they did in the diet pill commercials. As I wrestled with my body’s ill-fitting container the latrine door opened and two pairs of boots tromped in. Specialist Pettit’s voice floated over the sound of running water. “Not to be mean or anything, but female commanders are the worst. And Lieutenant Mills is the absolute worst. I worked for her for two years in Personnel and she ragged on me the whole time.”
Whoa, shit. Enemy inside the wire. I stopped breathing altogether and leaned so close to the stall door my eyes crossed.
“Hey, now.” That was Lieutenant Logan, my replacement at my old job. Female soldiers carved their hierarchies along different lines, never straight down the military ranks, and new alliances were being tested. Would Logan stick up for me, officer to officer? “It’s a short-term thing. She won’t be here long.” Instead of reproach, Logan’s voice was edged with mirth. “The colonel needs a body in that chair until a real commander comes in, and now that I’m here, Lieutenant Mills is over strength. She’s the body.”
My face grew hot. Real commander? Body? I clamped my lips shut against the urge to burst out of the stall, roaring. I imagined inhaling the entire room then blowing them away with the release of my torso, all tightly packed plastic explosives and buckshot. These two, Logan especially, had no freaking clue.
THE BIG COMB OVER
THE BIG COMB OVER
J.P. Rieger
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Family satire; Farce; Magical realism
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Three nephews and three eccentric uncles.
———
It’s 2050 and Robbie Elders has all but forgotten about his oddball, religious fanatic uncle, tim tim. He’s taken up the latest fad, genealogical research based solely on DNA. But Robbie’s “inconclusive” DNA results are unsettling. He crashes back to his childhood, back to his world of comic books and tim tim.
“I opt for posh and London” declares Lady Florence Stour. It’s 2019 and time for a Royal Wedding. Robbie’s uncle, Stef, is engaged to Lady Florence, a distant member of the British royal family. Stef’s Baltimore clan have been invited, but Robbie’s mom and dad can’t attend. They’ve entrusted Robbie and big brother, Doyle, to their mom’s two eccentric brothers, uncles Roy and Roland. Roy, a weathered waterman with a severe Baltimore accent, lives for Maryland blue crabs. Roland, a mildly hypochondriacal actor, lives to survive the Karens he unavoidably encounters. And then there’s Desales, Roy’s smart aleck, teenage son. He lives to prank. They’ve descended upon London. What could possibly go wrong?
Meanwhile, tim tim has been coaching Robbie on “the mission.” A silly religious fantasy according to Robbie’s atheist parents and the therapists. Or perhaps not? Things are not always as they appear in The Big Comb Over.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT
Roland looked at the bottle in awe. “Fletcher’s Dry Shampoo – Hint of Almond.” He looked over the directions and ingredients on the back. “Wow! It’s gluten-free and approved by PETA, too!” He handed back the bottle, gingerly, as though it were an egg.
“Yes! So, I’ll get things started, today, but when you use it, remember to follow the instructions carefully. You have to shake the thing like a bastard.”
He pulled off the top cap and shook the bottle frantically.
“Okay, shield your eyes with your hands, Roland.”
Morris began carefully spraying the bald spot. The bottle produced several quick spurts—the initial “targeting” move. He then pulled the can back several inches and sprayed in a wider arc, slowly filling in the surrounding areas. Excess brown powder fell gently onto the cape; iron filings mixed with cinnamon.
“Yes, there we go! Success! Let me give it a brush-through and a good zhuzh!”
Morris began to carefully run the boar’s hairbrush through the mixture of hair and powdered shampoo. There was that one tricky area, so he gave it another quick blast with the aerosol can. He completed brushing and found the most optimal place for the all-important part. Something natural. Avoiding the comb-over effect was difficult. Balance . . . balance . . .
He then gave Roland’s hair a quick blast with the hair dryer. Not too much, as there was not much to dry. The shampoo had absorbed most of the hemp oil treatment. He put the dryer aside and gave Roland’s hair a two-handed, final zhuzh. He spun the chair around, dramatically, and placed a hand mirror in front of Roland’s face so that he could check out the back.
“Looky loo, Sir Roland! Nary a hint of . . . deficiency!”
Roland looked with disbelief. He no longer had that bald spot! It was gone!
“Oh dear Lord, Morris! You are a genius! Look at this! Michelangelo!” He handed back the mirror, stunned.
“Thank you, thank you!” Morris took a quick bow and rapidly turned the chair back around, causing Roland some dizziness. “Now, let me hit you with a finishing spray to hold everything in place!”
He dramatically removed the top of the hairspray aerosol and shook the can furiously. He sprayed the mist in a near random fashion near the scalp and then away from the scalp and then back toward and quickly away again—a symphony conductor of a twelve-tone sound poem.
He spun Roland around again and thrust the mirror before his face. “What do you think?!”
“Yes, yes, Morris, this is perfect! This is what I’ve been waiting for . . . dreaming about!”

Q&A With …
Do you cry at the movies?
Yes, if served stale popcorn. You get your hopes up for a real treat and then – boom. Disappointment.
Who is the last person you hugged?
My beautiful spouse! I would hug her all day, but she would find that annoying.
What are you reading now?
Paul McCartney: The Life by Philip Norman. I love well-written biographies on musicians and persons in the music industry such as record producers and label execs. I’ve read many bios on more obscure persons and have worked my way up to Macca, the big fish.
How do you come up with the titles to your books?
Of late, I’ve tried to use titles that both relate to the storyline but are yet enigmatic. The goal is to grab the potential reader with an unusual title: Clonk!, The Big Comb Over and my as yet unpublished novel, Sunscreen Shower. I’m hoping a potential reader will be intrigued by these titles and will make an impulse purchase. Much how one buys a candy bar while waiting in the checkout line.
Would your book make a compelling movie?
Absolutely. There’s plenty of action and comic dialog to keep the viewer amused. Jacques Audiard would be the perfect director for The Big Comb Over. Audiard’s direction in The Sisters Brothers was brilliant. Unfortunately, the movie bombed at the box office, but I loved it.

PROPHET’S DEATH
PROPHET’S DEATH
Robert Creekmore
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Southern Noir
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Death-cult leader Joseph Proffit has met his end! Along with him perishes the secret method for manufacturing indigo, the substance that imbued him with godlike abilities.
To the dismay of Naomi’s family, she succumbed to the injuries Joseph dealt her during their final battle atop the abandoned Coast Guard station, Frying Pan Tower, thirty miles off the North Carolina coast.
Both of their bodies were lost at sea when the one-hundred-foot-tall structure crumbled during Tropical Storm Gabriel.
Naomi’s beloved companions escaped aboard her dive boat, along with Joseph’s final victim, who is on the verge of death.
In the aftermath, Naomi’s family has no choice but to rebuild their lives in hiding, fearing reprisal from the handful of remaining Apostle loyalists.
Soon, their secret, dormant conflict will be thrust onto the world stage by a wealthy benefactor who funnels his personal hatred and unfounded grievances into throngs of ignorant followers.
Is this the end of Naomi’s family? Without her, how will they survive?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT
The winds of Tropical Storm Gabrielle punish the small dive boat. Its howling feels like the voice of nature herself crying out in lamentation at the death of Naomi Pace.
As Nate pilots the craft over each wave, there’s a moment when he can hear the engines rev hard as the props come out of the water momentarily just before crashing down again. This cycle repeats every few seconds, seemingly without end.
Below deck, Rebecca and Herschel steady an unconscious Malcolm by keeping him squeezed between their bodies. It’s difficult. There’s nothing to hold onto since the Apostles stripped the cabin bare. The two hours it takes to get back to their dock are hell, both physically and introspectively.
Naomi was Nate’s best friend. To him, she was invincible.
How could she be dead? Nate thinks to himself as he involuntarily projects images of their time together across the water.
He has successfully outrun the incoming storm wall, but a new one awaits his fractured mind when all of the chaos subsides.
Neither Herschel nor Rebecca has the same composure. They wail with grief. Reaching across Malcolm’s limp body, they hold one another’s hands for comfort as much as they do to keep their injured companion safe from the onslaught of the turbulent water.
Nate threads the needle at the Masonboro Inlet, just like Naomi taught him. The waves rocking the swollen bay attempt to push them easterly into the mainland. Even though it means safety, the sight of the dock fills Nate with dread. Its arrival in the foreground always meant the end of a day fishing with Naomi, until now.
Robert Creekmore is from a rural farming community in Eastern North Carolina.
He attended North Carolina State where he studied psychology. While at university, he was active at the student radio station. There, he fell in love with punk rock and its ethos.
Robert acquired several teaching licenses in special education. He was an autism specialist in Raleigh for eight years. He then taught for four years in a small mountain community in western North Carolina.
During his time in the mountains, he lived with his wife Juliana in a remote primitive cabin built in 1875. While there, he grew most of his own food, raised chickens, worked on a cattle farm, as well as participated in subsistence hunting and fishing.
Eventually, the couple moved back to the small farming community where Robert was raised.
Annoyed with the stereotype of the southeastern United States as a monolith of ignorance and hatred, he wanted to bring forth characters from the region who are queer and autistic. They now hold up a disinfecting light to the hatred of the region’s past and to those who still yearn for a return to ways and ideas that should have long ago perished.
Robert’s first traditionally published novel, Prophet’s Debt, was a Manly Wade Wellman Literary Award Finalist.
His second, Prophet’s Lamentation, was a Lambda Literary recommendation for July 2023.
by C.L. Schneider
Genre: Epic Fantasy
All he wanted was to end the war. Fate had other plans.
This box set doesn’t just contain The Crown of Stones Trilogy.
It holds an adventure that transports you to a shattered land in need
of rescue, an immersive reading experience that drops you into the
mind of exiled soldier Ian Troy: a man born with an addiction to
magic, living in a world where magic is reviled, and its users are
enslaved.
This dark, epic saga comes to life as you journey across the war-torn
realms of Mirra’kelan and meet its ever-evolving cast of characters
all struggling to survive and find their own path to peace. You’ll
cross realms devastated and divided by years of conflict, molded by
secrets and lies, and governed by prejudice and fear. Learn their
tangled history. Unearth the lore. Discover the true origins—and
the danger—of the ancient Shinree’s powerful magic.
Travel with Ian as he returns to the past to save the future, crossing time
to solve the mystery of The Crown of Stones,
his true connection to the artifact, and the role it played in
shaping all their lives.
