I do have 6 books I plan to write at some point that take place 17 years after The Dread. I don't have a timeline on that yet. I would also like to write about the Mage War with Bava K'aa and the Obsidian King that happened 50 years before The Summoner. Right now, I'm writing Jonmarc's backstory in the Jonmarc Vahanian Adventures, short stories on Kindle/Kobo/Nook. There will eventually be the equivalent of three books, taking Jonmarc up to just before The Summoner. I wouldn't be surprised to see a short story series about what Soterius and Cam were doing during The Blood King, since in the books we only get glimpses of their efforts against Jared. Thanks for asking!(less)

“Foolishness pours out of an open mouth....
but wisdom sneaks in through the ears....”
Gail Z. Martin, The Dread

“Oh, there are little rhymes a mage might use to remember the sequence of what must be done, but the words themselves don't do a thing. You could write every 'spell' as high as a man on the barn wall, but if you don't have the power to start with, all you'd have is a strange rhyme. And a bad one at that".”
Gail Z. Martin, The Blood King

“Maybe, just maybe Vahanian thought, an outlaw turned noble has an outside chance with a noble turned outlaw.”
Gail Z Martin

Scythe (Arc of a Scythe, #1) by Neal Shusterman Scythe by Neal Shusterman
Thou shalt kill.

A world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery. Humanity has conquered all those things, and has even conquered death. Now scythes are the only ones who can end life—and they are commanded to do so, in order to keep the size of the population under control.

Citra and Rowan are chosen to apprentice to a scythe—a role that neither wants. These teens must master the “art” of taking life, knowing that the consequence of failure could mean losing their own.

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
“Are you happy with your life?”

Those are the last words Jason Dessen hears before the masked abductor knocks him unconscious.

Before he awakens to find himself strapped to a gurney, surrounded by strangers in hazmat suits.

Before a man Jason’s never met smiles down at him and says, “Welcome back, my friend.”

In this world he’s woken up to, Jason’s life is not the one he knows. His wife is not his wife. His son was never born. And Jason is not an ordinary college physics professor, but a celebrated genius who has achieved something remarkable. Something impossible.

Is it this world or the other that’s the dream? And even if the home he remembers is real, how can Jason possibly make it back to the family he loves? The answers lie in a journey more wondrous and horrifying than anything he could’ve imagined—one that will force him to confront the darkest parts of himself even as he battles a terrifying, seemingly unbeatable foe.

From the author of the bestselling Wayward Pines trilogy, Dark Matter is a brilliantly plotted tale that is at once sweeping and intimate, mind-bendingly strange and profoundly human—a relentlessly surprising science-fiction thriller about choices, paths not taken, and how far we’ll go to claim the lives we dream of.

The Girl With All the Gifts (The Girl With All the Gifts, #1) by M.R. Carey The Girl With All the Gifts by M.R. Carey
Melanie is a very special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her "our little genius."

Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant Parks keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh.

Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she'll do when she grows up. Melanie doesn't know why this makes Miss Justineau look sad.

The Girl with All the Gifts is a sensational thriller, perfect for fans of Stephen King, Justin Cronin, and Neil Gaiman.

Incredibly, Shahrzad finds herself falling in love. How is this possible? It's an unforgivable betrayal. It's a Charmed Life (The Grimm Chronicles, #1) by Selene Charles It's a Charmed Life by Selene Charles
My name's Elle. Princess Arielle, for those who know about my past. Cursed by my own father, now I'm banished to Grimm. I'm a siren, killer, and one of the best damned cold-case detectives in all of the bloody realms. I don't stop until I discover the truth, no matter where that truth leads.

My next case sends me to Wonderland, a harrowing place of madness and dark secrets. I'd rather be landlocked than step foot on that tainted soil, but I don't have a choice after discovering Alice's bloodstained ribbon and a bandicoot's claw covered in blood beside two stiff's at the Charming's sprawling castle. My insatiable thirst for truth leads to a conspiracy that will not only rock the Grimm world but also my own.

No one ever walks away from Wonderland unscathed... No one.

Join me on a spell-binding tale that you aren't soon to forget.

Space Opera by Catherynne M. Valente Space Opera by Catherynne M. Valente

A century ago, the Sentience Wars tore the galaxy apart and nearly ended the entire concept of intelligent space-faring life. In the aftermath, a curious tradition was invented-something to cheer up everyone who was left and bring the shattered worlds together in the spirit of peace, unity, and understanding.

Once every cycle, the civilizations gather for the Metagalactic Grand Prix - part gladiatorial contest, part beauty pageant, part concert extravaganza, and part continuation of the wars of the past. Instead of competing in orbital combat, the powerful species that survived face off in a competition of song, dance, or whatever can be physically performed in an intergalactic talent show. The stakes are high for this new game, and everyone is forced to compete.

This year, though, humankind has discovered the enormous universe. And while they expected to discover a grand drama of diplomacy, gunships, wormholes, and stoic councils of aliens, they have instead found glitter, lipstick and electric guitars. Mankind will not get to fight for its destiny - they must sing.

A one-hit-wonder band of human musicians, dancers and roadies from London - Decibel Jones and the Absolute Zeroes - have been chosen to represent Earth on the greatest stage in the galaxy. And the fate of their species lies in their ability to rock.

We Are Legion - We Are Bob (Bobiverse, #1) by Dennis E. Taylor We Are Legion - We Are Bob by Dennis E. Taylor
Bob Johansson has just sold his software company and is looking forward to a life of leisure. There are places to go, books to read, and movies to watch. So it's a little unfair when he gets himself killed crossing the street.

Bob wakes up a century later to find that corpsicles have been declared to be without rights, and he is now the property of the state. He has been uploaded into computer hardware and is slated to be the controlling AI in an interstellar probe looking for habitable planets. The stakes are high: no less than the first claim to entire worlds. If he declines the honor, he'll be switched off, and they'll try again with someone else. If he accepts, he becomes a prime target. There are at least three other countries trying to get their own probes launched first, and they play dirty.

The safest place for Bob is in space, heading away from Earth at top speed. Or so he thinks. Because the universe is full of nasties, and trespassers make them mad - very mad.

Sons of Darkness A Night Vigil Novel by Gail Z. Martin Sons of Darkness: A Night Vigil Novel by Gail Z. Martin
We are the Night Vigil.

The run-down convenience store, the all-night diner, the last-ditch shelter, or seedy motel, the redneck bar and the emergency room, and all the other places open on the graveyard shift—they’re Hell’s hunting grounds, full of easy marks and desperate souls, prey for evil things out there in the dark.

We keep the Vigil, looking for the ones who can still be saved, the ones who aren’t too far gone. We’re the misfits and the muck-ups, unwanted by Heaven or Hell, given one last chance to atone for all the mistakes and missed chances, the pain we’ve caused others and ourselves, the good things we were afraid to do, and the bad things we embraced with open arms. We work the night shift because that’s when evil walks. We’re the clerk in the all-night liquor store, the server in the 24-hour diner, the long-haul trucker who only drives at night, the counter person in the convenience store, the dog shift nurse. We recognize the evil when we see it, and we use the skills we honed with blood and fire to stop it, whatever it takes.

Unfinished business ties us to the mortal world, to make atonement, find absolution, satisfy retribution, get things right. You won’t find a sorrier group of halfway house heroes. No illusions left—about ourselves, humanity, or what’s really out there in the darkness. Just a purpose, to go down fighting the good fight. Because this is our last chance.

One final chance to make it right, the thin red line of humanity against the evil that goes bump in the night, your best hope to make it through the hour of the wolf

When a series of disappearances, suicides, and vengeful spirits cause havoc and death along a remote interstate highway, demon-hunting ex-priest Travis Dominick teams up with former special ops soldier and monster-hunter Brent Lawson to end the problem with extreme prejudice.

In this gritty and gripping new novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series, Eve Dallas fights to save the innocent—and serve justice to the guilty—on the streets of New York.

Homicide cop Eve Dallas and her billionaire husband, Roarke, are building a brand-new school and youth shelter. They know that the hard life can lead kids toward dangerous crossroads—and with this new project, they hope to nudge a few more of them onto the right path. For expert help, they hire child psychologist Dr. Rochelle Pickering—whose own brother pulled himself out of a spiral of addiction and crime with Rochelle’s support.

After all his work to get clean, Lyle’s been pumped full of poison—and a neighbor with a peephole reports seeing a scruffy, pink-haired girl fleeing the scene.

Now Eve and Roarke must venture into the gang territory where Lyle used to run, and the ugly underground world of tattoo parlors and strip joints where everyone has taken a wrong turn somewhere. Even worse, she's stuck with Archduke Drac EL Kyn, a Darkan--a creature of darkness and sensuality, who entices her with passion, intrigue, and danger. Drawn by an irresistible hunger to the princess, he struggles to maintain distance from a woman who is utterly forbidden to those of his race. Gail Martin Bloggers, media and reviewers! If you want to get a copy of Shadow and Flame, the fourth and final book in the Ascendant Kingdoms Saga, it's now on NetGalley---BUT you won't be able to see it in the catalog because the publisher set it to 'secret' because .... well, they make the rules. Right now it's going out by invitation-only, but I can submit your name for an invitation!

SO ... if you want a review copy, please message me with your name, the email address you use on NetGalley and the URL for your blog/review site. (This offer is restricted to media, bloggers and book reviewers with a book review website.)

I know this requires a little extra effort, and I'm trying to run interference. I am always *very* grateful to all the bloggers and reviewers who give my books a shout-out.

BTW, here are what some other folks are saying about Shadow and Flame *blush*

“The perfect conclusion to a truly epic tale.” -- Michael J. Sullivan, author of the Riyria novels.

“Gail Z. Martin is the one of the finest storytellers writing today. Her fascinating characters and mastery of atmospherics gives readers stories that have to be savored. Her characters display the sort of quick wit and heart that make them a joy to follow through their adventures.”
--Michael A. Stackpole, New York Times Bestselling author of I, Jedi and Rogue Squadron

“A flawless finale that does not disappoint.” -- RT Book Reviews

Thank you very much.

Gail Martin Vendetta is live TODAY! It's the second book in my Deadly Curiosities urban fantasy series--and it's jam-packed with action and magic.

Someone from Sorren's past is out to destroy him and everything he cares about. That puts Cassidy, Teag and Trifles and Folly in the cross-hairs, against an unknown enemy with strong magic and significant resources.

Sorren has spent centuries shutting down the plans of powerful immortals, dark warlocks and supernatural creatures, and now he’s got to figure out which of those many enemies is out to get him before they pick off his friends one by one and come after him to finish an immortal vendetta. Please read and review--and tell your friends. Thanks!

Gail Martin Hey folks! If you’ve ridden into battle with Blaine McFadden, faced down dark mages with Tris Drayke and Jonmarc Vahanian, outwitted Victorian villains with Jake Desmet or Mitch Storm and kicked demon butt with Cassidy Kincaide, this is for you!

If so, I’m putting together a working street team called The Shadow Alliance to spread the word about my books before they come out. When they are out, then getting reviews out are important. This means getting organized and I need help spreading the word.

You can find The Shadow Alliance here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/43581... Joining comes with many fringe benefits and I’m hoping we can share things together. I hope you'll join me. We'll have fun!

L Dear Gail Z Martin,
I would like to thank you for being my friend on Goodreads, which is a fantastic site where one is able to converse with so many likeminded people both authors and readers. As a huge fan of your books (the chronicles of the necromancer series), i can honestly say that this is a huge privalige. I am looking forward to reading more of your work, including the two books in the fallen kings cycle that i cannot wait to read.
Thank you so much once again.
