About That Kiss by Jill Shalvis

About That Kiss - Entertaining Contemporary Romance.
About That Kiss is an entertaining contemporary romance in the Heartbreaker Bay series. Kylie, a custom woodworker, hires Joe, a private investigator, to help her find a stolen item that is near and dear to her heart. They shared a kiss once, but she's determined to keep their relationship strictly business. So is Joe, although as they work together they find each other harder to resist. Set in San Francisco with a cast of colorful friends, the story moves along at a fast clip. The characters are real and likable, and humor is injected into almost every scene. There are plenty of steamy moments between Kylie and Joe too, creating a nice balance to the story. If you're a fan of romance novels, and you haven't read anything by Jill Shalvis yet, I would recommend starting with the Lucky Harbor Series. None of her books have to be read in order, and each has a blend of humor, friends, family, and sweet and sexy romance. Check out my reviews of some of her other novels here, and happy reading!

The Woman In The Window by A. J. Finn

The Woman In The Window - Edge of your seat suspense!
The Woman In The Window is an edge of your seat suspense novel with numerous twists and turns. Dr. Anna Fox is housebound, suffering from a severe case of agoraphobia, the fear of the outdoors. So, she spends much of her time observing her neighbors comings and goings and making up stories about their lives. When Anna thinks she witnesses a crime through her neighbor's window, nobody believes her. She's considered the crazy lady that never goes outside. Besides, there's no proof of a crime having been committed. This event propels the story forward through a series of twists and turns that keep the reader wondering what's real and what's just a figment of Anna's imagination.

The Woman In The Window isn't just about a crime. Themes of love, friendship, and family are woven throughout. The characters are complex, interesting, and real. I found this book hard to put down, and I was constantly surprised by the way the story changed direction. If you're a fan of popular suspense novels, like Gone Girl, and Girl On The Train, you may like The Woman In The Window. I know I did!

The Ones Who Got Away by Roni Loren

The Ones Who Got Away - Sizzling Contemporary Romance.
The Ones Who Got Away is book one of a sizzling contemporary romance series by Roni Loren. Liv is reunited with her high school love, Finn, under less than ideal circumstances. They've returned to their high school to participate in a documentary about the horrific shooting that took place there during their senior year. Liv and Finn were among the lucky ones who survived, but many of their friends were killed, and neither of them has completely healed. Finn has since become an FBI agent who is bent on finding the criminals who provided guns to teens. Liv is a website designer who has buried herself in work as a distraction. When they see each other after all these years, their chemistry still burns hot, although both of them are reluctant to pursue it. When Finn takes a forced vacation at a nearby lake house, he invites Liv to spend some time there too, where she can pursue her true passion—photography. But spending all that uninterrupted time together proves dangerous as they slowly give in to passion, knowing that it's only temporary. When summer ends, Finn has to go back undercover, and he could be absent for months or years. The knowledge doesn't stop Liv from falling in love with him all over again and vice versa. The Ones Who Got Away has a perfect blend of romance, passion, friendship, and conflict. I found the characters to be very real and likable, and the conflict they faced felt real too. The story kept my interest until the end, and I'm planning on reading more books in this series. If you enjoy steamy romance novels with an engaging plot, you might like The Ones Who Got Away. Sting by Sandra Brown

Sting - Engaging Romantic Suspense.
Sting is an engaging romantic suspense novel with multiple twists and turns. Jordie, an attractive business owner, becomes ensnared in her brother's criminal world when she tries to save him from a ruthless killer. In the process, she's kidnapped and held captive by an enigmatic man named Shaw, who is also after her brother. Jordie fears for her life, but despite numerous threats, Shaw leaves her unharmed. Alarmed by her growing attraction to Shaw, and concerned for her brother's life, Jordie manages to escape. But she doesn't get far. The story takes another twist when she discovers Shaw's true identity, and then their personal relationship really heats up. Sting was the type of book that I found difficult to put down. There were surprises around every corner and the chemistry between Jordie and Shaw was scorching. If you're a fan of romantic suspense, I would highly recommend this book. I would also recommend the many romantic suspense novels by Nora Roberts.

Roomies by Christina Lauren

Roomies - Contemporary story of a pretend marriage.
Roomies is the latest contemporary romance from author duo, Christina Lauren, featuring an aspiring writer and an aspiring musician. Holland discovers Calvin in a subway station, where he sits and plays his guitar for money. At first, it's his music that attracts her, but he's also extremely good looking, and she becomes obsessed with him. When Holland is accosted in the subway station, Calvin comes to her rescue and that marks the beginning of their relationship. When Calvin confesses that he lives in NYC on an expired visa, Holland concocts a plan to help him stay in the country. She introduces him to her uncle who works on a Broadway production, and she offers to marry him! While they pretend to be a couple, they also fall in love, but there are some obstacles to overcome first. Having read most of Christina Lauren's books, I had high expectations for this one. Unfortunately, I was somewhat disappointed. My favorite parts were the interactions between Calvin and Holland as they became closer. However, I felt like there weren't enough of those scenes. To me, the story was heavy on the music aspect, and light on the relationship aspect. So far, I've enjoyed the author's Beautiful series more than their recent books. If you're a fan of sweet and sexy contemporary romance, you might like Roomies. For more romance recommendations, see my list of favorite romance novels.
