An Island Christmas Wedding is now available!
An Island Christmas Wedding is now available on Amazon Kindle for $0.99! (Paperback version to follow in the next day or two.) This story is a continuation of Custom Built for Me , however, it could be read as a standalone. If you enjoy short romantic holiday stories, check it out! Here's a synopsis and happy reading!
In this follow-up to Custom Built for Me, Jess and Shane, and Hannah and Ty are off to the U.S. Virgin Islands for their double wedding. While Jess is thrilled to be getting married to the man of her dreams, she’s nervous about reuniting with her dad and sister, who she’s been estranged from since her mother died. A wedding, though, might be the perfect occasion for their reconciliation.
In the meantime, Hannah is very pregnant, and her primary concern is fitting into her wedding dress! How she wishes that her best friend and soon-to-be sister-in-law were experiencing the same thing too. Little does she know her wish may come true sooner than later.
And then there’s Matt, the best man and brother to Shane and Hannah. He’s just become single again, but it doesn’t look like he will be for very long. Matt quickly becomes enamored with the maid-of-honor, who happens to be none other than Jess’s sister!
Join these couples and their families as they celebrate love and Christmas at…An Island Christmas Wedding!

Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult
Small Great Things - Powerful realistic fiction.
Small Great Things is a powerful realistic fiction novel about race, family, and friendship. Ruth is an African American woman who works as a labor and delivery nurse in a predominantly white community in Connecticut. She's worked there for many years and is a well-liked and respected employee. Everything changes when Ruth is assigned to work with a white couple who have just delivered a baby boy. The father, Turk, (a self-proclaimed white supremacist) requests that no African American be allowed to touch his baby, and a note is put into the baby's file. Ruth is hurt and angered, but she plans to abide by the patients' wishes. After a routine circumcision, the baby goes into cardiac arrest, and Ruth happens to be the only staff member on hand to witness it. Torn between her duty as a medical professional and the patients' request, she finally steps in to assist, but without success. Afterwards, Turk and his wife blame Ruth for what transpired, and they file a lawsuit against her. She loses her job, her friends at the hospital, and the respect she once had, until Kennedy, a public defender, steps in to help. The story is told from the perspectives of Ruth, Turk, and Kennedy, and the reader is taken on a bumpy ride through the minefield that is race relations in our country. Picoult tackles this heavy topic with real, well-developed characters, and forces the reader to see the story from all sides. There are several supporting characters that add depth, including, Ruth's son, Edison, and her sister, Adisa. Small Great Things is powerful, and engaging, as most of Picoult's novels are. If this topic doesn't interest you, check out my reviews of some of Picoult's other novels. Regardless of which book you read by this author, she will make you think!

If You Only Knew by Kristan Higgins
If You Only Knew - Emotional women's fiction novel.
If You Only Knew is an emotional women's fiction novel with multiple story lines. Jenny Tate is a successful wedding gown designer, however, her love life has taken a recent hit. Jenny's ex-husband, Owen, remarried and has a new baby, yet he wants them to continue to be "friends." Jenny moves from New York City into the quiet suburb where she grew up in an attempt to start over. In the meantime, Jenny's sister, Rachel, a stay-at-home mom of triplets, has just discovered her husband's infidelity. Rachel is torn between wanting to leave or wanting to stay and fight for her marriage. Two sisters, each with their own problems, band together in this emotional story about love, marriage, and family. This is the first book that I've read by Kristan Higgins but it won't be my last. The characters were real, and mostly likable (except for Rachel's husband), and the plot was rich and multi-layered. There are also some interesting and likable secondary characters, including Leo, Jenny's handsome and mysterious landlord. As a romance fan (and writer!), I was really rooting for Jenny and Rachel to find their happy endings which they did. If you're a fan of women's fiction that revolves around sisters and families, I would highly recommend If You Only Knew. I would also recommend books by Elin Hilderbrand who writes engaging stories with similar themes.

Dirty Little Secret by Kendall Ryan
Dirty Little Secret - A steamy contemporary romance.
Dirty Little Secret is a steamy contemporary romance novel featuring Emma, a librarian, and two brothers, Gavin and Cooper. For months, Emma has admired Gavin at a local coffee shop and although she's never spoken to him, he features prominently in her fantasies. That all changes when he leaves behind his business card, and she feels certain that he wants her to contact him. It turns out that Gavin and his equally hot brothers own an elite escort service. Emma's curiosity gets the best of her and she ends up having an interview with Gavin, even though she has no intention of becoming an escort. The chemistry between them is off the charts and he convinces her to become an escort but only for him and Cooper. Emma agrees and she quickly becomes entangled in the brothers' lives. Cooper is the sweeter of the two, but she's inexplicably drawn to Gavin, and they have some intense encounters on their "dates." Just as she and Gavin become closer, Emma discovers something suspicious from his past, and just like that the story ends. Dirty Little Secret is book one of a series so you have to read the next book to find out what happens. I was drawn into this story immediately and found the characters interesting, and mostly likable, even though Gavin has a gruff exterior. However, my interest waned toward the end of the book, and I was especially disappointed in the cliffhanger. If you enjoy steamy contemporary romance novels and don't mind investing in a series, you may like Dirty Little Secret.
