Festive Holiday Recipe from Gina Neely
Christmas Cornish Game Hens
[image error]
Ingredients
3 large carrots, roughly chopped
3 stalks celery, roughly chopped
3 large onions, roughly chopped
2 parsnips, rough chopped
2 oranges, cut into wedges
6 Cornish game hens (about 2 pounds each), rinsed and dried thoroughly
Olive oil, to drizzle
Holiday Dry Rub, recipe follows
Directions
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
Spread the vegetables and orange out evenly in the roasting pans. Place the Cornish game hens over the vegetables. Drizzle with olive oil. Rub the oil into the hens and sprinkle with the seasoning mixture, remembering to season the cavity. Place some vegetables and an orange wedge in the cavity of the birds.
Place in the oven and roast for 45 minutes or until the juices run clear and they are browned. Let the hens rest 10 minutes before carving.
Cook's Note: Line the baking sheet pan with foil under the wire rack for an easy clean-up. The veggies and orange stuffed in the cavities of the hens will impart flavor to the meat as it cooks. Be sure not to crowd the hens on the baking sheets or else the skin won't crisp up properly and they will take much longer to cook.
Holiday Dry Rub
2 tablespoon salt
2 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Place all ingredients in a bowl and mix to combine.

Qualities of Successful Women: Valerie Jarrett
In our third blog on insights from successful women, here’s Valerie Jarrett’s advice about rising above people who try to bring you down.
You will inevitably encounter people, both professionally and in your personal life, who try to shine at your expense and undermine you whenever they can. They’ll deliberately try to hold you back and break your spirit. Be patient, keep focused on doing your very best, shrug, laugh and bounce back. Over the long haul, you’ll earn your colleagues’ respect, your bosses will recognize your talents and your true friends will reveal themselves. And if any of them don’t respect you after you have given it a fair shot, go back to lesson number one: Be flexible and move on. Prove them wrong. Success is the best revenge.

How to Handle People Who Don't Listen to You
We've all had to deal with people who cut us off and don't listen to what we have to say. In order to manage people’s attention and attitude, you must first understand and manage your own mindset. Is it possible it’s your behavior that causes them not to listen?
A good place to start is to check whether your mindset is negative or positive.
Some of the questions you could ask yourself are:
Do I approach people with problems or solutions?
Do I hold an attitude of entitlement or gratitude?
Do I impose my agenda on them or am I mindful of their agenda?
Do I come across as self-serving or do I try to be of service to others?
If your approach matches the latter part of each question, then know that the other person's failure to listen is not due to anything you've done, so don't take it personally.

Qualities of Successful Women: Ivanka Trump
I get it from both sides, the good and the bad. Positive and negative. And I’ve learned to ignore it. To rise above it. I refuse to let the opinions of others define how I see myself, how I carry myself, how I get through my days. It’s just not relevant to me.
If I got upset every time someone suggested that I was coasting on my last name, my looks, or the silver spoon that might or might not have been lodged in my mouth at birth, I’d be a basket case.

How to be Confident Despite Self-Doubt
How do you put yourself in the running for a promotion when you don't feel completely confident that you can do it? To answer the question, let’s take a look at the inner contradictions that hold us back from being confident and seeing possibilities.
Take a moment and ask yourself, “What are some of the inner contradictory beliefs that cause me to doubt myself?” For instance, you might worry that you don’t have enough knowledge for the new position, though on a deeper level, you know that isn’t true. Make a list of past successes to negate the critical beliefs with real life evidence.
What you will realize is that successes outweigh failures and yet the failures stick out as a sore thumb.
When you take the time to appreciate failures as learning opportunities and realize that the negative mind-talk isn’t true, the limiting beliefs will have less hold on you.
Confidence comes naturally when you manage your thoughts and the opposite is true when the thoughts manage you. Through self-regulation, self-judgment drops and a positive mindset arises, energizing you and encouraging you to take the necessary actions towards the promotion.

Why You Need to Put Self-Care First
During this busy holiday season, we wanted to share some inspirational tweets that have resonated with our visitors.
Qualities of Successful Women: Mary Kay Ash
This week, we're going to share with you some insights from accomplished women about the qualities it takes to succeed. Here are some thoughts from Mary Kay Ash, founder of Mary Kay Cosmentics.
There are four kinds of people in this world:
those who make things happen
those who watch things happen
those who wonder what happened
those who don’t know anything happened!
I knew from a very early age that I wanted to be first on that list. And in the years since, I have learned that people who do succeed are set apart by their personalities, objectives, and abilities. Specifically, this means they have:
enthusiasm (with purpose)
discipline
willingness (to work, to serve, and to learn)
determination
appreciation of others

Why You Need to be Honest with Yourself to Succeed
There are three common factors that derail professionals from their career tracks:
1. Confusion
2. Inner Conflict
3. Cynicism
In order to move from confusion to clarity; conflict to confidence and cynicism to curiosity, we must be willing to look at the source of the derailment.
It is much easier to blame external sources for a career derailment, like managers or coworkers. But not taking ownership of your missteps is disempowering and holds you back from reaching your full potential.
Instead, ask yourself what you can do differently. Self-inquiry can be challenging, but the rewards are extremely satisfying.
For this month we will explore self-inquiry as a tool to transform personal perceptions. It helps us move forward and break away from old, habitual ways of thinking.
Before we begin to slice and dice the process, let us begin today with a simple yet profound exercise. I invite you to see the greatest possibilities in yourself and everyone you meet today. Each time you notice a cynical thought, take a deep breath and look at the situation through the lens of curiosity and trust. Make note of the possibilities you begin to see!
