Idi Amin – Ugandan Coup d’detat
In January 1971, aware that Ugandan President Milton Obote was planning to arrest him for misappropriating army funds, Uganda Army Commander Idi Amin launched a Ugandan coup d’état and declared himself president.

Hamburger Hill Vietnam
In May 1969 the Battle of Hamburger Hill was fought by US Army and Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) forces against People’s Army of Vietnam (PAVN) forces. Though the heavily-fortified Hill 937 had little strategic value, US command ordered its capture by a frontal assault, only to abandon it soon thereafter.
This controversial battle marked a turning point in the U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War.

Leonid Brezhnev Assassination Attempt
In January 1969 a deserter from the Soviet Army fired shots at a motorcade carrying the Leonid Brezhnev through Moscow. Though Brezhnev was unhurt, the driver was killed and several celebrated cosmonauts were injured.

UFO Project Blue Book Declassified
In January 1969 the Condon Report (commissioned by the United States Air Force) concluded: “nothing has come from the study of UFOs in the past 21 years that has added to scientific knowledge.”
The Condon Report further recommended that the US Air Force close its Project Blue Book investigation of UFO reports – the USAF would do so at the end of the year.
