Anti-war March on the Pentagon

In October 1967 ~ 70,000 Vietnam War protesters marched in Washington, D.C. to the Lincoln Memorial.

The next day ~50,000 marched to the Pentagon, where Allen GinsbergAbbie Hoffman, and Jerry Rubin  chanted to “levitate” the building and “exorcise the evil within.”

‘Che’ Guevara Killed in Bolivia

The Argentine Marxist revolutionary and Cuban guerilla leader Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara was killed in October 1967 apparrently on orders from the Bolivian President despite the United States government’s desire that Guevara be taken to Panama for further interrogation.

Fleetwood Mac

Fleetwood Mac, a British-American rock band was formed in London in 1967 by guitarist and singer Peter Green.

The addition of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks gave the band a pop rock sound and their 1975 album Fleetwood Mac topped the Billboard 200 chart (with my favorite Landslide).

Fire ravages USS Forrestal

In July 1967 an explosion and fire aboard the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Forrestal in the Gulf of Tonkin left 134 dead.

In the summer of 1967 more than 150 race riots erupted in Atlanta, Boston, Cincinnati, and Tampa, Birmingham, Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Newark, New Britain, New York City, Plainfield, Rochester, and Toledo.

Loving vs. Virginia

In June 1967 Loving v. Virginia was a landmark civil rights decision of the U.S. Supreme Court which ruled that laws banning interracial marriage violate the Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

USS Liberty Incident

In June 1967 (during the Six-Day War) the USS Liberty, a technical research ship in international waters,  was attacked by Israeli aircraft and torpedo boats.   34 crew members and one civilian employee) were killed. 171 crew members were wounded and the ship was severely damaged. Israel apologized for the attack, saying that the USS Liberty had been attacked in error after being mistaken for an Egyptian ship.
