Lt Calley Sentenced for My Lai Massacre
In March 1971 U.S. Army lieutenant William Calley was found guilty of 22 murders during the My Lai Massacre and is sentenced to life in prison (he is later pardoned).

Weather Underground Bombs US Capitol
In March 1971 the far left militant Weather Underground issued a communiqué stating that the bombing of the United States Capitol was in protest of the U.S. invasion of Laos.
While the bomb smashed windows and caused hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of damage, there were no casualties.

Operation Lam Son 719 in Laos
In February 1971 a limited-objective offensive campaign named Operation Lam Son 719 was launched in the southeastern portion of the Kingdom of Laos. The campaign was carried out by the armed forces of South Vietnam with logistical, aerial, and artillery support by US forces that were prohibited by law from entering Laotian territory.
