Writing Exercise

The 3rd Annual
Deus Ex Machina
Competition.
Like the previous Deus Ex Machina competitions, this isn't a competition. Just an exercise. Write a scene in which Evil Editor is in big trouble, and in which he is rescued/escapes as a result of a preposterous intervention.
As you probably know, DEM's were not uncommon in ancient Greek dramas, where the hero's demise would be thwarted at the last second by the arrival of Poseidon, who would skewer the villain on his trident.
The results of previous DEM ...

Since we moved to the East Coast, I'm even more of an in-your-face driver. I catch myself drumming my fingers on the steering wheel when I'm stuck behind a meandering, slow driver. And I say something like…For God's sake, make it occur, or pull over and park. Make a choice. Now. And I might add a few more words at the end; since I don't know the slow slob's name, I make a really good one up.

I have got a very genuine Idea about a novel that deals with an alternative interpretation of Jesus' life and mission. I am not a native speaker of English and am not well-versed in writing fiction. I think I need someone to coauthor the novel with me. My problem is that I don't know who to contact and don't know if I can trust the coauthor. I mean I must start by telling him/her what I have in mind and there is nothing that guarantees me he won't kick me and write it on his own.

The "f" word sprayed the bedroom in machine gun bursts, short and controlled as Elana caught sight of the newspaper. She glimpsed what lay, one more time, on page one. Fat, fat, fat! She hated the "f" word. Her obsessive/compulsive mind game forced the words to run across the ruts and creases of her brain. More fat, most fattest, maybe the most fat photo. The fattest photo. Her best fat photo. On and on the phrases ran, screaming in silence.
