goofy quiz
You Are the Magic Wand

You are imaginative and idealistic. You believe that anything is possible, and you don't leave room for doubt.
You think that there is too much hopelessness in the world. People need more optimism and hope in their lives.
You know that change isn't as easy as the flick of a magic wand, but you also know that amazing things can happen if you let them.
You aren't sure if you believe in miracles, but you do believe in yourself. And that's almost as good.

pins and needles
Every once in a while, I get an urge to sew (or, if you ask Jen, I get an urge to stab myself with a needle). Sometimes I quilt (they only require a little blood letting), other times I make dragons (I can't begin to tell you how blood thirsty the needles get with those guys).
The project I played with for the last couple of weeks? Making a doll-er, action figure.
Yup, he's totally an action figure (I named him Sorin, after one of the protagonists in my upcoming release, Dark Designs).

links and things
Ah, February. It's one of my favorite months. Spring is around the corner, the Wolfman is coming out soon, and my birthday is next week (whee! An excuse to eat chocolate :).
Other cool things:
Anne is doing a workshop this weekend (technically it's Anne, April Martinez, Chris Griffin and Croco Designs; but seriously, Anne! Who doesn't love her?). It looks really cool.
Rita's anthology, Time Well Bent, got an awesome review from Rainbow Romance. They even mentioned her story :)

mmm, zombies
Ahh, January. There's so much to enjoy: the cold, the rain, the earthquakes (nothing too exciting, thankfully. Even the cat didn't freak).
Writing-wise, things have been blah. Nothing serious, just some post-holiday exhaustion. I had a vampire dream a couple days ago, though, and it writing some notes about it have made the words start flowing. I think I'll be back to obsessing about the WIP by the end of the week.
In the meantime, I'll just enjoy this vid I I found on a friend's blog.

the edits have left the building
I've finished DD's edits :)
As with any edits, I've learned new things about my writing. Sometimes they're embarrassing things (coach versus couch), other times they're really cool (when to use ephemeral and when not to). DD's edits taught me:
* when it's okay to use "-" and when to just go ahead and finish the sentence. FSM, ever since I began the edits, I've found myself looking at my WIPs and thinking, "ugh. Don't do that. Finish the sentence."
* "..." is right, ". . ." isn't.

I've written more this week than I did in all of Nano
I was wrong: the edits are taking me a little longer than I thought. I'm writing a couple new scenes for the story. The first one is done and I'm almost done with the second. Three more pages and it'll be done (and the word count will go up by 5k :).
As I write, I invite you all to enjoy a nice quiz.

x-mas shopping, part one
Ages ago, I used to wait until the last minute to do my Christmas shopping. It was a layover from working around my work/school schedules: the holidays were always a crunch time, and I wouldn't have much time to myself until the final week.
Now, I've got more time to shop, and I have the glory that is the internet to protect me from having to set foot in the mall (ugh. The mall in Christmas time. *shudder*).
While looking around for presents for others, I've stumbled across things that I think ...

it's already December?!
O_O
I can't believe November went by so quickly (what was I doing? Fighting off a cold for the first part, attempting and failing Nano in the second. One year, I will succeed). On the bright side, I have a couple things to share.
The awesome Jessewave interviewed me recently. I had a lot of fun doing the interview, and occasionally go by the site and look at it (I've been blessed with a lot of wonderful covers. Wait until I post the one the brilliant Anne Cain did for the MLR print edition of D...

netherwood snippet
A few years ago, a bad cold went through Jen's office. She caught it, she gave it to her mom, but didn't give it to me. When she was better, I teased her, saying that she'd been selfish and hadn't shared her cold with me. The next time a cold went through her office, the same thing happened again. We laughed, we teased, we bought more tissue for her poor nose.
Occasionally, though? I catch her cold.
Having spent most of the weekend napping, I wasn't able to get out and get a pumpkin until today...

hot comfort review
Jessewave has reviewed Hot Comfort, the anthology that Cooking with Ergot is in :)
The review goes over each story in the anthology. Since they reviewed Ergot a few months ago, they just repeat what they'd said before for it. The review was awesome then and it's awesome now :) Here's a bit of it:
This book is magical from the first page in more ways than one. The author, Luisa Prieto, sucks the reader in with her prose and dialogue and the two protagonists are both beta characters, with Carter ...
