post contest, plus one more chance

Since a lot more people entered the contest than I'd imagined, I ended up deciding to give away three books (congrats to Becky, Nemine, and Joy :).

Jessewave is holding a contest today, though, and the prize is Written in Blood. She's got a neat site and often gives books away, so I highly recommend checking out her site.

written in blood

It's out!

To celebrate, I'll be holding a contest :) Just drop me an e-mail at poukaj @ yahoo.com by midnight (subject: WiB). I'll write out the names on slips of paper, drop them in a hat, and announce the winner in the morning.

the bike simile

I just had to cut this from the WIP. It made me laugh, though, so I thought I'd at least post it here.

He could do this. It was just like riding a bike.

A bike that had once told him it loved him, took him to places he'd never imagined, and then dumped him when it found someone cuter and blond.

And then came back to run him over.

And tell him that it was happy with how things had ended. Everything was better now.

He frowned. Maybe he should look into a different mode of transportation.

coming soon . . .

Amber Allure will be releasing Written in Blood on Sunday :)

Here's the blurb and a peek:

In Victorian London, people lament over dreadful news in the paper. Give them a scandal, though, and they want blood.

An outspoken reporter, Collin Foster, is used to keeping his desires silent. When he encounters a handsome and mysterious man, he’s tempted to step out of his carefully structured life. For one night, he will follow his passions.

And one night is all the man needs to change Collin...forever...

writing 1, edits 2

The edits for Written in Blood are done. I love doing edits (it's the last chance I get to correct "he hat down" to "he sat down"), but it's effected my word count. I'm not worried about it, though. I'll just play the song that makes my muse climb the walls and get caught up in a few days :)

15070 / 25000 words. 60% done!

ergot review

Cerebral Reviews reviewed Cooking with Ergot :) They gave it four brainys (which look like pencils with brains instead of erasers. It's really cute).

Oh, what a pleasure it was to read Cooking with Ergot. Right off the bat I knew I’d like it. The voice is great, the word structure and usage wonderful, and the plot is superb. Ms. Prieto is an accomplished writer who knows her craft and how to use words to her advantage. Cooking with Ergot has it all: suspense, humor, thrills, sex, and fabulous cha

edits, part one

During every edit session, I always learn something new about my writing. Sometimes it's how to get deeper into a character's head, other times its to cut back on ". . .". One of the things that's pointed out to me is a list of words I apparently fell in love with during the course of the writing and had to use a lot.

For Written in Blood, here's the list so far:

Lovely (FSM, did I love this word)

Exquisite (don't get excited, I used it to describe the setting)

Push (no, not in the way you're thinki

written in blood edits

I got the Written in Blood edits today. The timing is great; I just sent off the last chunk of my TNEO project off and can now focus on WiB. When the story's done, it'll be back to the WIPs :)

migraine blues

I've been fighting a migraine the last few days. Despite it, I've gotten some words in.

8396 / 25000 words. 34% done!

Overall, I think it's a good word count. Right now it feels blah because I feel blah, but it's only the ninth. By the end of the week the migraine will be gone and I'll have written a ton more words.
