writing 3k, sims 0

so far, so good :) Two things I need to focus on:

1. right now, its all in snippet form. I need to connect them.

2. double my daily quota. The Sims keep tempting me, but if I'm going to play and not feel guilty, I better write a lot. And bring the alphasmart over when I play. The previous version took time to load, and if it does the same here, that time could be spent writing.

curses

The Sims 3 came out today.

*sigh*

I LOVE the Sims. The Sims loves eating my time. Occasionally we strike a happy balance, where I set up a situation similar to something in one of my stories and play with the possible outcomes. Other times I just base characters after someone else's story and just play.

We haven't gotten the game yet, but I suspect it'll find its way into the house before the day is out. When it does, I think I'll just curl up with a notebook and do something fiendish to my WIP. If

I just got started for today, but I wanted to report my current word count :)

sleep versus the muse: sleep 0, muse 1

Most days, Darian wakes me up (I've gotten quite good at translating "meow." Depending on the tone, it can mean anything from "I'm hungry," "I want to watch MST3K," or "I want to go outside"). Today, the muse woke me.

Well, technically, it was a neighbor's stereo. When they turned it on, it was too loud, and in the moment it took them to turn it down, I caught enough of the song. Immediately, my muse began stirring. I tend to create soundtracks to listen to when working on a project, and that son

calling it a night

But before I do . . .

1135 / 25000 words. 5% done!

The funny thing was, my word count had been awful today (er, yesterday). I ran around most of Sunday doing errands, leaving my muse in need of a nap. The moment I told myself to wait until midnight, though, the muse began talking.

twas the night before write-a-thon

Writing-wise, May hasn't been bad. Since I'll be going to TNEO in a couple months, though, I'd like the next month to be freakishly productive. With that in mind, I'll be joining cassandra_gold and others in writing 25k next month.

I'll be finishing up a revision and working on my TNEO project (I'm close on one and have people wanting to rip my arm off because they want more with the other). For simplicity's sake, I'll keep one counter.

salt and pepper duel

When I was in New Jersey visiting Rita, we staged an epic duel. Here, at long last, are the photos.

Warning; they're quite graphic.

First blood.

Noooo!

You killed my father. Prepare to die.

En garde!

The duel is so fierce, they lost their hats.

The battle must come to a close, for they are evenly matched (and our meals just arrived). For now, the duel will have to wait.

goofy quiz

Your Pop Star Name Is Coco Midnite

You're Gonna Be a Star!

What's Your Pop Star Name?

Ironically, we got Jem on DVD yesterday. The music is as catchy now as when I was a kid. I may not get the "fashion, glamor, and fame" part right* but the pink and baby blue outfits do make me want to . . . giggle, actually. The 80's gave the world some nice music. Fashion? Eh.

* I keep wanting to think of it as "fashion, power, and fame," which would've made it a different kind of show ;)

what I did over my not-yet-summer non-vacation

1. return home :)

2. get my hands on Sins and Shadows.

3. continue revising/writing. Not let self read Sins and Shadows until revision is done.

4. fight zombies.

5. get cover for Written in Blood. It's coming out next month :)

6. test to see if the revising will do itself.

7. learn that stories will not revise themselves.

8. look at the cover for Dark Designs :)

9. continue revising/writing.

10. find some more zombies to fight.

gorey times

Rita and I escaped our laptops on Saturday and went to an Edward Gorey exhibit. It was neat, in a creepy, the dude had a macabre sense of humor, wow, he really had a fur coat, kind of way. I like his work, but I have to confess: after wandering through the exhibit, I wanted to hug a stuffed animal.

Thankfully, I'd brought Blaise, so I sat outside the exhibit with him, scribbling notes (I tend to bring Blaise with me when i travel. Never know when I might see something cool I can take his picture
