another crowling snippet
This one's from later in the story. It's rather info-dumpy, so I'll probably have to set something exciting around it. Maybe a nice attack? Who doesn't want to see a crowling rip someone's face off?
To remind himself that Trevan was not easy to dispose of, Damian set a copy of Trevan's last newspaper on his desk.
The top story, ironically, dealt with the Aldrich scandal. Damian had uncovered the former Concilor feeding prisoners to crowlings; the knights investigated and arrested him; Trevan re...

My article on e-piracy is now up at the MLR blog. Both the cat and the roommate think it's well written, and as any writer can tell you, the people who live with you and depend on you to feed them will always be honest ;)

crowling snippet
I posted this one last year on the FWF site. I've changed it a bit after I took it to the conference in February, though, making it even more awesome. Enjoy :)
As an alienist, Damian had spent of his time in the knighthood studying the things that crept through the dark. Until his half-brother disappeared, he never thought he'd become one of them.
Despite that, his knowledge of how creatures slipped through the shadows bled into this moment. He knew to wait until the harvest festival had drawn ...

happy pumpkin thoughts
We haven't gotten our pumpkins yet but I've been thinking about it (mmm, I can't wait to carve the head off and dig into its wet guts ;). I found a cool new site a few minutes ago that has some really nice designs.
This one goes with our crow theme.
This one doesn't.
This one's just cool.

after snippet
After popular request (well, one person asked for it ;), here's a snippet from After Twilight (and, since it's been a while since I posted anything about these guys, here's a link to more snippets).
Andrew wasn't surprised to wake up alone that night.
Over the last few days, he had killed one man and nearly driven another to cannibalism. If he was going to be surprised by anything, it was that there were voices murmuring on the other side of the bedroom door, and one of them belonged to Devon.

rainbow awards
Cooking with Ergot and Written in blood have made it to the second phase of the Rainbow Awards :)
Ergot is in the paranormal/horror category.
Written in Blood is in the historical category.
*bounces off the walls*
Speaking of bouncing off the walls; two cool things happened recently. Shadow Hunt made it onto Jessewave's Readers Favorite Gay Books list and the Hot Comfort anthology was released. Ergot is now in print :)

octoberfest
I've been doing my favorite October activity: enjoying the cool, Halloween-ish atmosphere. So far, Jen and I have had the prerequisite dark and stormy night, baked pumpkin-shaped cupcakes, watched Zombieland, gotten a new zombie book, and debated pumpkin designs (we won't be getting them for another week, but we like planning. This year, we're thinking of going for an all crow theme).
We haven't checked out any haunted houses or gone to our favorite corn maze yet, but we've still got a few wee...

crawling out from behind the computer
I can't believe it's nearly been a month since I last blogged O_O
While I hit the word count challenge (29k, yeah!), I feel bad about not blogging in a while. To make up for it, I'm going to post snippets. Until Halloween, I'll post something every other day.
So, with that in mind, here's the first snippet. It's from End Game.
Nanomedicine: the end of death.
Jessie Canning leaned forward in his office chair, studying his computer screen. When his husband whispered the words as a possible headline...

damn
*sigh*
I just wrote a snippet I can't use. It's awesome, though, so I thought I'd share it.
In the fourteenth century, a mage could gather an army of pitchfork wielding humans with just a few whispers of _demon._
In the twenty-first century, muttering _demon_ made the police decide to send the mage to the hospital so they could be watched for twenty-four hours.
