nifty odds and ends
Here's some cool stuff that's happened while I've been working away in the writer cave (it's like the batcave, only with less vigilantism and more blood ;).
* I stumbled across The Zombie Hunters, an awesome webcomic about, yes, zombie hunters. It's funny and poignant and scary :)
* I've fallen in and out of the Time Sink's clutches (the site is great for research but one link will always lead to another, and then another, and then the next thing you know it's the middle of the night).
* So many awesome things to read, so little time.
* I want to see this movie sooo bad.

dark designs review
Three Dollar Bill Reviews gave DD an awesome review. Here's a peek:
The book is divided into two storylines. The first story is set in present day USA in San Jose where we are introduced to a set of characters. Kyler is a English professor and writer who is taking up a chair in a small College after a horrific experience with rebels in Colombia. Sorin is a student at the College who edits the College paper. Sorin's brother Ryan hosts a show on the cooking network along with his friend Slyvain. Gavin is a famous writer of dark fantasy fiction. Finally there is Dean who runs a local coffee shop and provides the food for Ryan's TV show. Life is about to change for all these men as they become embroiled in the work of evil mages who work on behalf of the 'Darkness'. This aspect of the book was intensely creepy and filled with genuinely frightening moments. Kyler becomes aware that he is about to undergo a change called a convergence which will join his present life with that of a knight of the darkness, Etherwolf. His resistance to this causes harm to a number of people and the casual deaths that happen during this part of the book were chilling. This story is not going to be for the fainthearted, but as a fan of dark fantasy I found myself both compelled through this part of the book and repelled by some of the characters especially Rhune, and the lack of compassion she displays.

zombies haven't eaten me
Hello, livejournal world! I'm back! And I have (some) news.
The AD revision is done. It's off with my awesome editor, hopefully giving her less of a hard time than it gave me. In the meantime, I'm now working on AM, as well as working on AT. When I'm not attached to the word program, I'm also drawing. I used to love doing it when I was a kid. I'm probably as bad now as I was then but it's fun :)
(How bad am I? When I first showed it to Jen, she said, "aww, what a cute gargoyle." I was like,
Note to self: must learn to draw better, before someone else asks me, "is that a guy or a girl?" It's a guy. In my head, anyway.
On a goofy note:
When I was coming up with the subject line, my first thought was, "haven't been eaten by zombies." It was immediately followed by "no, that's passive." Even when the WIP isn't right in front of me, I'm still revising. Yeah! And o_O

happy new year! Here, have an earthquake
The funny thing was, I was deconstructing a zombie story I'd just skipped to the end of, when the earthquake hit.
me: gasp!
Darian: (sits up looking worriedly)
Jen: (not looking up from her computer) It's okay, Darian. Mommy is just tweaking over an earthquake. Not even a big one at that.
me: I thought it was a zombie.
Darian: (looks at Jen)
Jen: nah, earthquake. Two, maybe two point five.
me: it felt stronger than that.
Jen: you also thought it was a zombie.
Edited to add: it was four point one. Hah!
Jen: still wasn't a zombie, though.

what have I been up to? Ohhh, where to begin....
Jen began feeling sick right before Halloween weekend. She was throwing up and feeling icky so I decided against going to Yaoi Con so I could stay home and make her chicken soup (she spent the next week muttering, "I can't believe you made me soup. From scratch.").
She stopped throwing up after Halloween but still felt tired. Then, at the tail end of "I can't believe you made me soup," she began feeling icky again. One night, she said it hurt to breath. Twenty minutes later, we were in the ER.
The doctors, using their magic powers, looked at her and said her gallbladder had become infected (they did some tests as well, but really, we walked in, they looked at her, asked a few questions, and then said, "we think it's her gallbladder. Let's check.").
While we waited for them to make it official, Jen dozed and I kept looking out the door every time someone's cell phone rang (it sounded like a little dog yapping. What the heck?). By morning it was official and we now had to wait for a doctor and operating room to become open.
Between arrival, surgery, and recovery, Jen was in the hospital a few days. While there, she got to enjoy jello, chicken broth, and pain medication. Having had my gallbladder taken out years ago, I warned her that after she got out, she would feel like her guts were on the verge of spilling out for a month afterward. She did feel like that too; for a week.
me: wow, I can't believe how much faster you're recovering than me.
Jen: it was the soup.
By the time the doctor said she could go back to work, it was Thanksgiving week. I spent her first day back staring at the calender, wondering where the month went to. Eventually, I figured it out: it's still back in the ER, jumping every time the doggy phone rings.

revising blues
My green pen has died :( I now have to use a purple one until I can go to the office supply store this weekend and replace it.
Yes, it's goofy, but I work best with 'ol greenie. The soothing color makes crossing out huge sections of my stuff easier.

gay of the dead: it gets better
This guy writes one of my favorite features on Fangoria. It's sad but I think it needs to get out there.

Octoberfest
Woo-hoo, it's October! My favorite month of the year :) I spend most of the summer looking forward to this month and now that it's here, I can't wait to get out there and do them. My current plans are:
* write 20k. I came pretty close to last month's 10k challenge (9,400 words) and I'm hoping to do better this month.
* write a couple posts for DIK (I've got one up now :).
* make pumpkin pot pie (during the summer, when I'm longing for October, I'm also lamenting the fact that pumpkins aren't in season yet. I LOVE this dish).
* go to the pumpkin patch, buy a ton of pumpkins for cooking and carving, and then get lost in the corn maze (I don't actually plan to get lost, it just happens every year).
* make a new action figure just so I can make it a different Halloween costume every week (I fear that if I dress up Sorin I'll start thinking happy DD thoughts, which pull pull me away from the revision. If it's just some random guy, I'll be able to think happy revision thoughts. This will likely lead to...).
* figure out if the new doll is going to be Andrew or Devon.
* make more pumpkin pot pie (when September began, I started looking for pumpkins at Safeway. Sadly, none appeared until the last week).
* finally make it to the Pirates of Emerson haunted house (we've been meaning to go to it for the last two years but have yet to make it there).
* carve pumpkins (we used to decorate like mad. Now we just carve a ton of pumpkins and place them around the head-on-a-stick figure. It looks really awesome).
* buy more pumpkins so we can make more pot pies (the dream is to freeze a ton of it, so come next summer we can thaw it out and enjoy).
* go to Yaoi Con (so many things to buy and people to hang out with).

writing and things
I'm currently in the midst of a fun writing challenge with cassandra_gold.
The goal: 10k in a month.
My progress so far: 5,390.
Getting further in the Revision That Will Not End as well as creating an outline for After Twilight that I'm happy with: priceless.
To celebrate, here's an awesome video Jen sent me. OMG, it's fun :)
