WTF Wednesday
Ha! That's kind of how I feel today. It's all payroll-y and stuff. ::sigh::
So I found myself on the CS message boards again this afternoon explaining to the "noob" indies that selling 0-5 paperback copies (a month) of their WWII historical ::yawn:: novel is normal. It also made me realize how strange some indies are because their marketing consists of telling other "writers" about their book.
Really? I mean – yeah, I've kindly purchased fellow writers' books (after previewing them and making ...

Tour de Tuesday
I really have nothing profound going on today. Did some editing on the latest MS last night and resubmitted to my editor. Still waiting on a few beta's to tell me what they think. Kicked myself for some glaring typos in already published stuff (ugh – it can't always be helped – typos slip through but I mercilessly flog myself on a regular basis for it anyway!). Worked on MNE and OTS2 a little; a sentence at a time. Plus did some beta for my sis. Did I mention my sis is awesome? She's always b...

Jitters
So my newest release was finally announced on my personal Facebook last night and the overwhelming positive feedback (like 30+ people positive) has me all jittery. Mostly because I know I can't please everyone and I don't try, but those feelings of "It's a lousy book!" do creep in from time to time even when the book probably isn't half bad. People have asked me, "What's your favorite book that you've written?" and generally my response is, "The most recent one." I know where the flaws are ...

A Day In My Life
So despite all the writing I get done, despite the day job, despite my social activities, despite my magickal work, – there is a domestic side to my life. Some days – that's mostly what I do. I tend to play catch-up a lot. Days where I do very little else except domestic chores and duties. With the cats I'm constantly vacuuming carpets, mopping floors, and scrubbing cat puke stains out of the carpets. DH and I have so much crap – we're constantly making trips to Goodwill (where did all the...

Bees & Other Garden Thoughts
I've been hearing a great deal how we're losing our bees and if we lose the bees, we lose a large portion of our sustainable food crops (technically we could lose something crazy like 85% of plant life which could destroy humans and animals). This, in turn, could lead to mass starvation (of humans – that's you and me and our animals who survive on plant foods). This, of course, has me thinking about what I can do, personally, to help bees and the environment aside from merely signing a...

Third Book Going to Beta
So my third book (sorry – still a secret) for 2011 is making its way to beta tonight. Actually, technically it is my second. Training Amy was supposed to be a December 2010 release and that just didn't happen. Regardless, once this one is done in beta, it goes to editing, then any corrections are made, and then it goes to print for proofing, then if the proof clears it is actually made available. So technically the eBook and preliminary paperbacks could be out by beginning of April. But it m...

Weekend Captive back on Amazon
For the last few weeks *Weekend Captive* was removed from Amazon. Not just for the reformatting, heck – I had that taken care of within a day. But rather because the book only came up by direct link and wasn't anywhere in their database to be found (by searching ASIN, title or author). Not to mention it was removed from my Author Central page. Well it all came back today so if you missed it – it's back. Of course Amazon's explanation was that my cover and/or description was sexually...

Opinions Change – Mine Have
This post was bound to happen sooner or later. A lot of my views about being an Indie have changed in the past six months since some of my Indie titles have taken off. I went from making a decent supplementary income on my writing (about $1K a month) to making the same salary an engineer might make. Almost overnight. I am an exception, rather than the rule (as traditionally published authors keep reminding me). However – I am getting a little tired of the people tooting the "Traditional...

Happy Spring!
Busy weekend! Got all the taxes delivered to our accountant. Did some more writing. Found some surprises in the yard! I found a patch of lily out front (that have never bloomed before), and garlic and onions from last year's failed experiment. Ha! Last time I did shallots same thing happened. I didn't have shallots the year I planted, but the following year I did.
I also got a great deal done on my new NF. So much material I've been having a hard time deciding what to include and what to...

Greenhouse!
HAHA! – Greenhouse! This is the model we're getting and get this – DH was minding his own business reading through Reader's Digest and guess what he found a coupon for $70 off on? This same friggin' Greenhouse! I know, I know, it's really just a cold frame or solar greenhouse, but there are ways of insulating them against the weather making them usable for longer durations in the colder months without having to bring in other heat sources. Like caulking all the panels in and...
