Why I Write
This question came up again this past week. Why do writers always ask each other this question? To me – asking me why I write is akin to asking why I collect swords. Or asking me why I like chocolate. Writing is something I've always been attracted to and always enjoyed – just like swords and chocolate. I honestly can't remember a time in my life where I wasn't reading. And I honestly have very little recollection of a time when I wasn't a writer. I've been fascinated by the written word...

Book Review: The Beans of Egypt Maine
I haven't done a book review for awhile so I decided this is my Thursday post. No – I'm not going to review an obscure indie, an urban fantasy, a paranormal mystery, or erotica today. Actually this book has been on my mind a lot lately. It was so potent that I can't stop thinking about it — and I read it back in 1996!
Just a note – the Kindle edition costs as much as the paperback. ::shrug::
I first read this book years ago on recommendation of a friend. I'm not usually big on the "Americana s...

What a Week for News!
Wow. It's been one heck of a week for news, hasn't it? Fascinating how the Republicans have managed to piss off the working class in one fail swoop. Between union busting in Wisconsin and giving themselves the right to dissolve the entire towns in Michigan (and appoint a dictator – er, a coordinator, um, yeah) I think people are going to start getting off their bums to stand up for themselves. We've been placid for too long people. We've allowed too many people get away with too much...
I Love This Woman
Ms. Amanda Hocking - a hard working Indie Author whose books were the right price at the right time in the right genre – and who sells hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of copies. She would tell you how much work being a writer is (especially when you're Indie). I won't rehash my rant about how writing is actually work. While she is not the typical Indie, I guess neither am I. I still contend there are more authors like *me* out there (those of us making $40K-$80K a year writing and...
Brilliant Short Story Beginning
I was going through short story files last night on my computer and pulled out this gem. Read it through to the end. This is really what's in the file. I'm not kidding.
Beliar's Curtainby S. J. Reisner
Pungent black night slipped swift into the long halls and dank corridors. With sword drawn, the smell of fear, and sweat prickling her deep tanned skin Loriann continued on. There was something foul to be said of wandering these halls in search of intruders. But guard duty was the best job s...

Let's Talk About Plants Baby!
While the weather outside is nasty the plants inside are taking root and getting big. My little Coriander seedling warranted his own pot and is now being fed a mix of nutrient and coffee. The Belladonna and Mandrake seeds are in their little pots being fed the same nutrients and the Basil is getting big. I think I'll find a good spot out of the way (in April or May) and sow some chives directly into the soil and just see what happens. I've had great luck with chives in my garden and a...
Cover Art
Cover art is one of those things that can make or break a book. Due to some of the controversial opinions of my covers on the OTS Mysteries I've decided to change the eBook covers to be more "serious". Personally – I really love my painted covers. They're unique and strange. But they also seem to elicit the Love/Hate response. People either love them or hate them – there is no in between. Much like the Charlaine Harris novels – they did a print run with the more serious covers and others...

The Spiritual Me
I noticed a lot of people visit this site from my author pages on Amazon. More specifically, the S. Connolly author page. Because of this I thought it appropriate to take a moment to briefly discuss this website and my spirituality. I don't really go into depth about my personal spirituality on this public blog since fans of my fiction cross the spiritual spectrum from open-minded Christians to Atheists and everything in between. Clearly my NF is geared toward Demonolaters, many who are...

Manic Monday
Mondays require a lot of coffee. The day has already started somewhat chaotic. Had some errands to run before work and then when I'm done here at the office it's home for dinner and then I have to do the grocery shopping. Snow + Ice always make such chores more fun. My choice, of course. I could have gone grocery shopping yesterday but I opted for smaller crowds. I think I'll take a night off from writing. In the meantime, PubIt seems to be down today. Ha! I love being a guinna pig. I guess m...
