In anticipation of his debut album, The Ballad of Willy Robbins (out October 15th via Mama Bird Recording Co.), Vikesh Kapoor has shared a new video for single "I Dreamt Blues." Premiering with American Songwriter today, the video features Vikesh performing the dark, narrative track live at Portland Playhouse, showcasing his deft finger-picking and distinct, emotionally-charged croon. Co-produced by Adam Selzer (M. Ward) and featuring Nate Query (Decemberists, Black Prairie), Jeff Ratner (Langhorne Slim), and Birger Olsen (Denver), The Ballad of Willy Robbins is a concept album that chronicles the brutal but hopeful journey of a working-class man who slowly loses his ambition, health, family and shelter. It was inspired by the struggles Kapoor saw all around him, from the hardships his parents faced as immigrants to the everyday challenges of small-town American life. These early experiences, along with the distinct privilege of performing at historian Howard Zinn’s memorial service, led Kapoor to hole up in Portland and write this record. From domestic discord to the failures of the American health care system (and so much more in between), The Ballad of Willy Robbins explores universal issues faced by many individuals each day-- resulting in a story that will resonate with people all around the world.
Vikesh will perform on KEXP's The Roadhouse (with Greg Vandy) on October 9th and will be announcing a string of US tour dates around his album release in October. Stay tuned for more information, coming soon!

"Island Universe Story Two" is the second in an ongoing series of EPs from Helado Negro, aka Roberto Lange. Not designed to "tease" or "build up to" or kill time between the Helado Negro albums, these releases shadow the LPs.
"Two" is underpinned by collaborations -- the orchestral sound on the opening "Stop Living Dead," for instance, was created with composer Trey Pollard and a double string quartet, and "Mitad del Mundo" features the talents of Wilco's Mikael Jorgenson -- but the Helado Negro project has never operated in a vacuum. From his headquarters in Brooklyn, Lange has always been quick to point out the importance of other people, sometimes in other places, who have contributed to his music, and of the collaborative dynamic itself. Some aspects of his process "are wildly free, and some of them are very structured and have a large amount of direction; it's widely variable in terms of what freedoms are given and what control is taken," says Lange. Ultimately, Lange loves the idea of process and what happens on the other side. Both the aesthetically satisfying product and the experimental process are important to him, and like any Helado Negro release, this latest chapter in the "Island Universe Story" delivers on both counts.

, a co-production with the Norwegian contemporary music group, Ensemble neoN. Featuring new arrangements of new and already released songs by Susanna, The Forestercaptures her composition, and all the nuances of her distinctive voice in neoN's deceptively simple chamber-folk tapestry, combining the antique notes of the Baroque theorbo, woodwinds and strings, and Susanna's sparse piano. The result is in an eerily exquisite canvas that recalls Mark Hollis, Tim Buckley, Kate Bush and Claude Debussy while remaining uniquely Susanna's soundworld. Today, Susanna shares a glimpse of this soundworld via The Forester's "Oh, I Am Stuck," of which she says, "The feeling of being stuck in a situation is such a frustrating state of mind, but also a quite fascinating process to try and break the circle - right at the point where the paralyzation starts vanishing and the will to break loose sets in."

New Zealand artist Lordehas announced yet more dates and venue changes for her upcoming North American tour this fall. The 16 year old singer/songwriter has also confirmed that UK artist Until The Ribbon Breaks (full band) will be the direct support on this highly anticipated 8 day stint. The tour is set to commence on the west coast at the prestigious Fonda Theater on 09/24 and wind up east, making 2 stops at the legendary Webster Hall in NYC (extra date added), another at Brooklyn’s Warsaw and finishing up at the Danforth Music Hall in Toronto (show upgraded from the Hoxton).

In advance of the release of her highly anticipated third album, Tall Tall Shadow , Paste premieres the live video for Basia Bulat’s track “It Can’t Be You” today. It can be viewed HERE.. Basia has also expanded her fall tour schedule, which now includes stops in Los Angeles, London, and Berlin, in addition to her previously announced headlining shows, and September support dates with Jim James. Secret City Records will release Tall Tall Shadow on September 30.
The “It Can’t Be You” live video was shot at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Basia’s hometown during a commissioned collaboration between Basia and visual artist Stephanie Comilang. Comilang’s contributions became the inspiration for Tall Tall Shadow’s artwork. Basia explains, “The images from the performance became an inspiration for the album artwork for this new record, and I’m so happy that we have a video to be able to share from it. During the show we played with the idea of what a stage should be and what people’s expectations of performance might be, especially within the context of an art gallery.” Tall Tall Shadow was co-produced with Tim Kingsbury of Arcade Fire and Mark Lawson, Grammy-winning engineer of Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs. The first single can be streamed HERE and is available for preorder HERE. The album is inspired in equal parts by tragic loss and abundant joy, which is reflected in more directly personal, emotional lyrics. It marks a sonic departure from her earlier work, moving away from her long-time practice of writing songs on the guitar or autoharp and instead primarily using piano and charango, an instrument which Basia has been unable to put down since receiving it from a friend.Basia chose to work with Lawson and Kingsbury knowing that they would not only challenge her but also push her music to new places. Several cuts on Tall Tall Shadow were recordedduring live, full band takes, an achievement she attributes to the creative environment nurtured by her two co-producers. The album also features the work of one of her favorite collaborators, her brother Bobby. The album follows Basia’s 2007 debut album Oh, My Darling and 2010’s Heart of My Own, of which NPR Music says Bulat’s voice is “a single powerful element.” SPIN praises the Juno-nominated singer’s “bright harmonies and … resonant alto voice” and Mother Jones raves, “this crafty Canadian folkie turns seemingly simple songs into engrossing accounts of desire and regret.” Basia has garnered great critical acclaim; Pitchfork praises her “rare, extraordinary voice,” and Filterdeclares “Bulat can pine with the best of them.” She has toured in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Australia sharing the stage with artists including St. Vincent, Tune-Yards, Arcade Fire, Andrew Bird and Nick Cave. Danish alterna-pop chanteuse Oh Land, a.k.a. Nanna Øland Fabricius, will embark on a North American tour this fall in support of her highly-anticipated new album Wish Bone , due out September 24(Federal Prism). Kicking off September 20 in Brooklyn, the 5-week headlining run will make stops in Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Washington DC, Seattle, San Francisco and more before wrapping up in Los Angeles on October 24. Featuring her distinctive brand of left-field pop, Wish Bone features collaborations with TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek, as well as additional contributions from Sia, WNDRBRD and Dan Carey, among others. The album will be released on Sitek's boutique label Federal Prism, joining a roster that includes TV On The Radio, Chuck Inglish, CSS, Priscilla Ahn, and more Oh Land recently unveiled the video for the energetic new single "Renaissance Girls." Taking inspiration from her past in ballet, the video features light-hearted choreography juxtaposed by the harshness of an abandoned warehouse setting. "Renaissance Girls" on iTuneshttp://smarturl.it/OL-RenaissanceGirls On Wish Bone, Oh Land's approach to songwriting was grounded in her hunger to be present in her immediate surroundings, accepting the limitations of reality rather than creating an idealized fantasy world. Spending time writing in Los Angeles and New York, Oh Land found inspiration in the limits of her own physicality (a disciplined ballet dancer, her career was sidelined by a crippling back injury) and found freedom within those restrictions.
For the recording of the album, Oh Land collaborated with Dave Sitek, holing up in his studio in Los Angeles and allowing the process to reflect the spontaneity of everyday life. "The collaboration was very intuitive," explains Oh Land. ""We didn't plan what we wanted to do, we just pressed record and played a million different instruments. We were both eager for the songs to sound likes the lives we were living at the time, so we kept some of the 'mistakes' on purpose, maintaining the integrity of what was delivered in the moment." Fittingly, the album was recorded using analog equipment and features brass horns, harp, and even a choir all recorded live. The result is Oh Land's most raw and immediate album yet.
Wish Bone is the long-awaited follow up to Oh Land's 2011 self-titled album that garnered overwhelming acclaim, with SPIN declaring it one of "20 best pop albums of 2011," and Details praising it's "fizzy, danceable electro-pop in the mode of Lykke Li and Florence and the Machine."

Kicking off September 20 in Brooklyn, the 5-week headlining run will make stops in Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Washington DC, Seattle, San Francisco and more before wrapping up in Los Angeles on October 24. Featuring her distinctive brand of left-field pop, Wish Bone features collaborations with TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek, as well as additional contributions from Sia, WNDRBRD and Dan Carey, among others. The album will be released on Sitek's boutique label Federal Prism, joining a roster that includes TV On The Radio, Chuck Inglish, CSS, Priscilla Ahn, and more Oh Land recently unveiled the video for the energetic new single "Renaissance Girls." Taking inspiration from her past in ballet, the video features light-hearted choreography juxtaposed by the harshness of an abandoned warehouse setting. "Renaissance Girls" on iTuneshttp://smarturl.it/OL-RenaissanceGirls On Wish Bone, Oh Land's approach to songwriting was grounded in her hunger to be present in her immediate surroundings, accepting the limitations of reality rather than creating an idealized fantasy world. Spending time writing in Los Angeles and New York, Oh Land found inspiration in the limits of her own physicality (a disciplined ballet dancer, her career was sidelined by a crippling back injury) and found freedom within those restrictions.
For the recording of the album, Oh Land collaborated with Dave Sitek, holing up in his studio in Los Angeles and allowing the process to reflect the spontaneity of everyday life. "The collaboration was very intuitive," explains Oh Land. ""We didn't plan what we wanted to do, we just pressed record and played a million different instruments. We were both eager for the songs to sound likes the lives we were living at the time, so we kept some of the 'mistakes' on purpose, maintaining the integrity of what was delivered in the moment." Fittingly, the album was recorded using analog equipment and features brass horns, harp, and even a choir all recorded live. The result is Oh Land's most raw and immediate album yet.
Wish Bone is the long-awaited follow up to Oh Land's 2011 self-titled album that garnered overwhelming acclaim, with SPIN declaring it one of "20 best pop albums of 2011," and Details praising it's "fizzy, danceable electro-pop in the mode of Lykke Li and Florence and the Machine."
