Biography:In the summer of 2010, Superhumanoids was birthed under the hazy air and bright blue skies of Los Angeles. A fascination for electronic sounds, instruments, pedals, and more, aesthetically united Max, Sarah, and Cameron. Like a petri dish growing each day, the band spent their time together intertwining and experimenting with their R&B upbringings and love for pop music. Bartered studio time, extensive touring, and the release of two EPs set the stage for what was to come and in the fall of 2011 these forces coalesced to create Exhibitionists.
Exhibitionists is the soundtrack to the last moments of dusk in LA. With swooning guitars, glimmering air, soaring melodies, the setting sun, and melting keyboards, something about the whole thing makes your breath stop short. Developed in the home studios of the Superhumanoids, the record takes a completely hands on approach from the trio. With each synth and guitar sound being completely made from scratch, the record brings a homegrown feel that encapsulates the thumps of the beating heart and lulls of swaying palm fronds from LA. And just as the record takes those elements and brings them to life, the live performance of Exhibitionists only continues to further that distinction. Despite being wrapped in an electronic blanket, the trio unravels each song's core to take the listener on a journey that highlights the living R&B undertones and driving groove that brings to light the soul of the record. What is found in the sticky air of the city of angels is found here in Exhibitionists, to ease between the spaces of your body, make you dance, and bring you home. Mixed by Ariel Rechtshaid (Usher, Major Lazer, Charli XCX, Sky Ferreira) and Doug Boehm (GIRLS, Guided By Voices).

The Fader Premieres The Casket Girls' "Holding You Back"

The Fader Premieres The Casket Girls' "Holding You Back" MP3Limited Edition Tape Out On September 7 / Cassette Store Day "The Casket Girls' brand of goth pop is definitely dark, but it's aperfect mixture of doom and optimism that keeps you
hanging on every word." - Bust
"The Casket Girls sound like homespun electronic kindred spirits to School of Seven Bells, A Sunny Day in Glasgow, Au Revoir Simone, and other dream-pop groups centered around swirling sisterly vocals." - Spin
Listen: "Holding You Back" via The Fader or SoundCloud

The Casket Girls, comprised of Ryan Graveface (Black Moth Super Rainbow, The Marshmallow Ghosts, Dreamend)  and newcomers, Elsa and Phaedra Greene, are back with two new songs for the first ever Cassette Store Day . The limited edition tape will be released on September 7 on Graveface Records & Curiosities and features "Holding You Back" & "Suddenly." The Faderpremiered "Holding You Back" and said "it's got a subtle creepiness to it, seemingly tied to the ethereal, double-female vocals, like an extremely happy song that you might hear over the closing credits of a horror movie." Holding You Back" is also available to post and share via SoundCloud.

The cassingle follows up The Casket Girls debut album Sleepwalking which was released late last year on Graveface and a limited edition Record Store Day EP. Those releases were praised by publications such as Bust NPR , Paste , PopMatters , Spin The Washington Post and more. The band toured in support of those albums with The Faint, Trust and Black Moth Super Rainbow among others.

The forthcoming cassingle will also act as a competition between the two new songs. Check back on The Casket Girls Facebook page in the coming weeks as there will be a poll, and the song that wins will go on their next full length due in early 2014.

Still Corners Premieres "Fireflies" Video w/ Vogue

Still Corners Premieres “Fireflies” Video With Vogue
http://bit.ly/1cgTLgz
Still Corners have premiered a glistening new video for the song “Fireflies”, from their recently released album Strange Pleasures, with Vogue.com. The stylish and ambient clip, directed by returning director Christian Hansen Sorenson (“Berlin Lovers”), stars band members Greg Hughes and Tessa Murray in a series of epic landscapes. Vogue calls the bands album, Strange Pleasures "A sumptuously expansive soundscape lifted by Murray’s ethereal soprano (see Video Premiere August 28th)."
Still Corners have scheduled a series of European tour dates from September 14th through November 28th. Please find a complete list of tour dates below.
Still Corners’ Strange Pleasures, the follow up to Creatures Of An Hour, the band’s acclaimed 2011 debut,  will be available everywhere via Sub Pop. The album is available on CD, LP and digitally, and features the singles “Berlin Lovers” and “Fireflies” as well as highlights “The Trip,” “Beginning to Blue,” “Future Age,” and “Beatcity.”  Strange Pleasures was produced by band leader Greg Hughes at his Greenwich studio in London.
What people are saying about Still Corners: “Tessa Murray’s ethereal vocals are trance-inducing...sounds as if it could loop on into some dreamy eternity.” - Stereogum

"Fireflies"...is no less beholden to the past-- only, this time, the band's drawing from the spangly, huge-sounding sounds of 1980s synth-pop. It's their most immediate and starry-eyed song to date, with Tessa Murray's multi-tracked vocals navigating their way through gorgeously empty terrain dotted with cymbal washes and gently pulsing synth tones.” [Best New Track]  - Pitchfork

“…starry-eyed, cinematic ’80s prom slow-dance vibes…” Gorilla vs Bear
“…Compellingly strange, endlessly relistenable strobelit pop that in a different world might be inescapable on Top 40 radio.” - Pretty Much Amazing   “Continuing to challenge themselves, the band are able to move forward without losing sight of the flavours which made their debut so seductive.” - Clash   “…Pure, infectious pop.” - Paper Mag
"...The music is ephemeral, but not meandering, the lush arrangements striking a balance between organic instrumentation and the synthetic, the crystalline guitar lines offsetting digital pop effects and subdued drum machine beats." [8/10] -  Pop Matters
"A welcome, and ultimately pleasurable return." [8/10] - Drowned In Sound
"The feel is consistently of an eerie twilight, perched high above a near-future city." [8/10] - Clash
“Strange Pleasures is an album of cinematic charm and where, with the weight lifted off his shoulders, Hughes has created a journey along a dark motorway that adds light and colour to stand out from the traffic.” - This Is Fake DIY
"...A brilliant dream-pop record." - Treble
"Like Creatures of an Hour, Strange Pleasures is a piece of great beauty..." [8.1/ 10] PASTE
Tour Dates Sep. 14 - Leffinge, BE - Leffingeleuren Festival Sep. 16 - Tilburg, NE - Incubate Sep. 17 - Paris, FR - Fleche Sep. 18 - Nantes, FR - Festival Scopitone @ Stereolux Sep. 20 - Lille, FR - Grand Mix Sep. 21 -  Metz, FR - Festival Zikamine Oct. 07 - London, UK - Bush Hall Oct. 10 - Thessaloniki, GR - Eightball Club Oct. 11 -  Athens, GR - An Club Oct. 12 - Patra, GR - Mikros Pripigas Nov. 28 - London, UK - Heaven**w/ Little Boots

CMJ premieres Happy Fangs video / free song download

CMJ PREMIERES DIRECTORS CUTOF HAPPY FANGS LION INSIDE YOU VIDEO

SELF-TITLED DEBUT OUT OCT. 1
If Bikini Kill and the Beach Boys were leveled to synth pop, it would probably sound something like Happy Fangs, San Francisco Chronicle

CMJ has premiered the official directors cut of the latest music video from San Franciscos Happy Fangs. Originally made in less than 48 hours, the video for Lion Inside You won the Best On-Screen Performance award at this years Music Video Race. The video captures the art punk duos ferocious presence, a raw attitude that reflects the sound heard on their upcoming self-titled debut, to be released on October 1st. In addition, CMJ is also offering Lion Inside You as a free audio download.

Watch the video/download Lion Inside You here:
http://www.cmj.com/news/video-premiere-happy-fangs-lion-inside-you/

Regarding the spirit of Lion Inside You and how it reflects their style, Rebecca Bortman(vocals) says, This is our rally song to stir up the muck and the mischief down deep. We all have a fierce side and the more we swallow it down, the more vicious that lion becomes. This theme is woven through a bunch of the songs on our first EP, each one meant to be a cathartic dose of energy. At its core, Happy Fangs aims to invigorate you. We want to be your punk rock release.

The duo is rounded out by Michael Cobra (guitar/drum machine) and although both come from visual design backgrounds, musically the two come from opposite ends of the spectrum. Outside of Happy Fangs, Cobra serves as the brooding front-man of electro rock band King Loses Crown, while RGB (AKA Rebecca Gone Bad) has gained notoriety as the feisty front-woman of new-wave indie dance-punks, My First Earthquake. When the duo decided to combine forces, they decided to fore-go any defined musical blueprint and only use inspiration, spontaneity and whatever backing rhythms they could produce from a Korg Electribe drum machine.

This spirit of excitement and unpredictability extends to Happy Fangs live performances. Speaking on Bortman says, We strive to make each performance an unreproducible musical rush. We never want to play the same show twice. We come to the stage in only black & white, war-painted, and with a bundle of energy to release on our wide-eyed audiences. At every show, we ask the crowd what our newest song should be about. We write that song on the spot for them with a promise and the warning that whether the song is a total failure or the next Blitzkrieg Bop, we will never play it again. A few of these songs so good that weve debated recording them, but in the end, we are sticking to our promise."

Be sure to bring your video camera to capture the duos improvisational song when you see Happy Fangs during their upcoming national tour (the CMJ Music Marathon in New York this October). Dates to be announced shortly.

Sleepy Sun's "11:32" Premieres w/ SPIN, New 7"

Sleepy Sun Announces New 7" Out 10/15 via Dine Alone Records,"11:32" Stream Premieres w/ SPIN Today
US Tour w/ City and Colour This Fall
"...a shape-shifting mess of psych-garage slime." -- SPIN

Northern California's Sleepy Sun has announced a new 7", to be released October 15th via Dine Alone Records. With just two tracks-- the heavy, fuzzed-out "11:32" and melodic, psych-tinged "The Lane"-- the release captures the diversity of the quintet's sound and experimental nature of their songwriting. The result of six years, three LPs, and countless tours worth of exploration and growth, Sleepy Sun's new tracks represent an evolved version of the band: one that has torn down walls and built up confidence. Today, SPIN  offers a sneak peek into their hazy, smoke-filled world with the premiere of "11:32," one of the band's heaviest songs to date.
Known for their incessant touring, Sleepy Sun has traveled the US with acts like Arctic Monkeys and the Black Angels, and this fall, they join City and Colour on the road (see below for a full list of tour dates.) 2014 will see the release of a brand new LP from the band--  stay tuned for more news, coming soon!

Mick Turner (Of The Dirty Three) To Release New Album

MICK TURNER (OF THE DIRTY THREE) TO RELEASE FIRST POST ROCK-ROCK OPERA OF OUR TIMES!
DON'T TELL THE DRIVER OUT NOVEMBER 19TH ON DRAG CITY  Finally! After 15 years, Big Mick Turner has turned in the big rock record we always knew he had in him! Yeah, Don't Tell the Driver is a different kind of record from all the Mick Turner records - not just his own, but the ones he's done with Dirty Three, Bonny Billy, Cat Power, Fungus Brains and Venom P. Stinger put together.
So, what's so different about Don't Tell the Driveranyway? Well, Mick grew a mustache for this one. That must mean it's his Sgt. Pepper; a consolidation and development of everything he's done up until now, streamlined and presented under the sophisticated umbrella known as the rock opera/concept album! Yep, with indecipherable themes of wonder and disenchantment and plenty of singing, Don't Tell the Driver is inarguably the first post-rock rock opera of our times - by an artist running out of time.  Like all the best masterpieces, Don't Tell the Drivercame together slowly, spurred by life experiences and aided by the meditation that only time brings. Over the last four years, Mick put together the pieces at Big Moth Studios in Melbourne, working his magic with aquatic guitar-and-drums chemistry, augmenting the tracks with melodica, piano and Fender Rhodes, and then bringing in the vocalists, including Caroline Kennedy-McCraken (Dead Star, The Plums, Caroline No) and progressive classical/opera singer Oliver Mann, plus other additional players, such as bassist Peggy Frew (Art of Fighting). Sitting in the drum throne of Tren Brother (and Dirty 1/3rd) Jim White, drummers Ian Wadley (Bird Blobs, Minimum Chips), Jeff Wegener (Laughing Clowns) and Kishore Ryan (Kid Sam, Where Were You At Lunch) do more than just fill the space equitably - they meet Mick out in his wild landscapes and ride the winds with him, bringing expert percussive colors to his soundworld. Topping off this extensive crew and providing a strong frame for the "narrative" are sweetly sentimental brass arrangements featuring trumpet and French horn.
Replete with classic epics and timely reprises, Don't Tell the Driveris an inspired and focused collection of Mick Turner music that reaches for new borders without sacrificing the dizzy wandering and painterly stillness that has typified Mick's best work of the past. With the help of his many friends, Mick Turner has turned over a powerful page of life and music on Don't Tell the Driver, out November 19th on Drag City Records.

Portugal. The Man teams with Danny Brown for Jake One remix

PORTUGAL. THE MAN SHARES "EVIL FRIENDS" REMIX
REMIXED BY JAKE ONE AND FEATURING DANNY BROWN
SHARES STEMS FOR "PURPLE YELLOW RED & BLUE""I heard about this mix happening a while back from Benny Blanco. He had mentioned that one of his friends had pulled a dope sample out of 'Evil Friends.' That friend turned out to be Jake One, who basically flipped the whole track. He pulled the sample, dropped the tempo and replaced the beat. At this point we had heard the track and could dig the vibes but I never expected someone to jump on it and deliver with the pace that Danny Brown did. As a fan of hip hop and all things competitive I'd say that Jake and Danny pointed where our music could go and how open it is to interpretation. All love to Danny Brown and Jake One, they crushed it. To everyone else, step up and take note. Sample our records - we have stems available for those who want them."
In light of that, the band is sharing the stems for Evil Friendsstandout "Purple Yellow Red & Blue" today. Having been previously remixed by Passion Pit, the track's stems are now available here for fans to download and remix on their own. Remixes can be submitted here upon completion. The band will be posting their favorite remixes as they come in.
Additionally, the band has gone through to verify and annotate Danny Brown's lyrics of Jake One's "Modern Jesus" remix at RapGenius. Check out the remix along with the band's recent AG Rojas-directed video for "Modern Jesus" and all upcoming US tour dates below.
