STEVE KILBEY & GREG DULLI One Night

A special fan pre-sale will begin this Wednesday at Noon PST. The passcode for the pre-sale is: KILBEYDULLI
“An Evening With Steve Kilbey & Greg Dulli “ will feature the duo performing a stripped down set. Kilbey & Dulli will perform a wide selection of songs encompassing both of their careers along with debuting several new ones.
As long time fans of each other’s work, Dulli met Steve Kilbey at a Church show several years back in Los Angeles and struck up a fast friendship with him. The two have stayed in touch over the past few years and have begun working on material together. During last year’s Afghan Whigs Australian tour, Kilbey joined the band on stage to perform the Church classic “One Day” in Sydney. You can watch that performance here: http://www.messandnoise.com/news/4498993
As the lead singer and bassist for The Church, Steve Kilbey has been making music since forming the group in the late 1970’s. The Church have released over 30 albums and have garnered massive international success. In 2010, The Church were inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame. Kilbey has also released thirteen solo albums and has collaboratively written, engineered and produced recordings with the late Grant McLennan of the Go-Betweens, Stephen Cummings, and Kev Carmody among numerous others. Kilbey was inducted into the Australian Songwriters Association Hall Of Fame in 2011.
Greg Dulli began his musical career as the front man and guitarist for the pioneering band The Afghan Whigs in 1987. Praised by critics and fans alike, the band released six studio albums, before originally disbanding in the late 90’s. Dulli went on to form The Twilight Singers, who have released five albums including the critically lauded Blackberry Belle, Powder Burns and Dynamite Steps in 2003, 2006 & 2011 respectively. In 2008, Dulli collaborated with close friend Mark Lanegan to form The Gutter Twins. In 2012, Dulli reformed The Afghan Whigs who embarked on their first world tour in thirteen years. In 2013 The Afghan Whigs made a surprise appearance at this year’s SXSW performing with Usher. Dulli also performed a solo set at this year’s Sub Pop 25th Anniversary Festival in Seattle in July.

“Californiyeah” is the latest single from !!! off their recently released album THR!!!ER, which is accompanied by a brand new video premiered on Rolling Stone and a remix courtesy of fellow Californians, rappers Main Attrakionz.
Nic Offer on making the video:
The song is about being a Californian and loving it, but choosing NYC. But really we spend more time on the road than in NYC, so Tokyo felt like as good a place as any to make the video.
We chose Tokyo because we were tired of sifting through a bunch of treatments and decided to make this video ourselves. We had free time after the show in Tokyo and our sound guy Jamie had his camera with him. We liked the way the city looked behind us going up and down in the glass elevator, so we thought why not just goof around and film this thing ourselves. It came out kinda punk looking, it's not hi-def, but we had a blast doing it.
They are also continuing their global touring schedule, which includes US, EU and AU festival dates.

Holograms Sophomore Album 'Forever' Now Streaming

Next week Holograms will release their sophomore album Forever, the follow up to last year's standout self-titled debut. However, you can hear it now in its entirety, streaming over on Noisey, who call the album "a lot like the gnarly William Bouguereau painting which adorns [their album cover]—a swift knee full of synth-rock into your lower back, a big old handful of hair and post-punk, and a huge bite of melodic energy to the throat."
Click Here to Listen to Forever Now
Forever strides forward with a youthful vigor and infectious energy that "comes and goes like a tornado" [FADER]. You can't avoid, nor do you want to, being swept up in its exuberance.
Stay tuned for more Holograms news coming soon...

Forever Tracklisting
1. A Sacred State
2. Flesh & Bone
3. Meditations
4. Ättestupa
5. Luminous
6. Rush
7. Wolves
8. Laughter Breaks The Silence
9. A Blaze On The Hillside
10. Lay Us Down
Pre-Order Forever Here A year plus on after the release of their debut LP, Sweden’s Holograms have returned with their second full length, Forever . After a year and a half of touring, losing their jobs, parts of their sanity and returning home only with the hope that their hard work will eventually pay off, they embarked on a new record drawing from the experiences that had simultaneously excited and exhausted the members.
Frontman Andreas Lagerström (vocals/bass) and Anton Strandberg (drums) still live in working class Farsta, 5 miles (8 kilometers) south of urbane and metropolitan Stockholm while the brothers’ Spetze (Anton: vocals/guitar, Filip: synth) still live at home. This isolation and boredom after their first international tours led the group to further mature and grow their sound into a record far more cohesive and “big-sounding” than their debut. The band aimed to capture the feeling of music being played in a church or temple, “like a mass…procession, or eulogy” as clearly demonstrated on closing track “Lay Us Down.” Though matured and experienced, the band’s youthful energy and DIY/Punk upbringing is still upfront and in full effect with the caustic “A Sacred State,” the melodic attack of “Rush,” or the unbridled mass-of-energy-cut-loose of “A Blaze on the Hillside.” Clearly, Holograms show no signs of slowing down the excitement and aggression of their original sound, something to delight their growing audience in this current world of arrogant sonic about-faces on sophomore albums.
Foreveris more than the next set of songs from Holograms. It’s a fully realized album that fans will relish for years to come. Songwriting and anthemic choruses as classic as the William Bouguereau painting they chose as the basis of their cover, though presented in a new and exciting way. A way perhaps best described with Holograms’ own words for the essence of their music “...energy, honesty, heart and spirit.”

Black Joe Lewis' newest full-length LP is out today via Vagrant Records. The Naked and Famous Debut New Track 'A Stillness'
The Naked and Famous Debuts New Track 'A Stillness'
Prepares For North American Fall Tour
I n Rolling Waves Out September 17th on Republic Stream/Embed New Track 'A Stillness' (Available To Post)
New Zealand quintet The Naked and Famous have debuted the first track, 'A Stillness,' off their forthcoming sophomore album,
In Rolling Waves
, out via Republic on September 17th. Listen now at
Glamour
and pre-order the album here. The song follows their explosive first single '
Hearts Like Ours
,' debuted as Zane Lowe's "Hottest Record in the World Today" on BBC Radio 1 and went #1 on the Hype Machine overnight, garnering praise from
NYLON, MTV Buzzworthy
, and
Cosmopolitan,
among others, who called it "our new anthem! We give it five minutes before it's used in every commercial." According to the band's songwriter/producer Thom Powers, 'A Stillness' is "a song about overcoming catastrophizing, re-discovering love, stability, security, calmness...I think it's about not abandoning. It's about dealing with your own sense of hopelessness."
In Rolling Waves follows the band's widely lauded debut Passive Me, Aggressive You. With global sales of over 500,000, the album spawned a US Gold single, 'Young Blood,' and took the band's YouTube and Vevo views beyond 25 million. Praised by the NME , it was "A classic case of lovely and beautiful: TNAF's passive melodicism and aggressive innovation clash in a dazzling blaze of psych/sonic fireworks" and Rolling Stone magazine described 'Young Blood' as one of the year's "best singles." Fronted by Powers (guitar/vocalts) and Alisa Xayalith (vocals/keyboards), The Naked and Famous lit a fire under an online fan base, with a video subculture built through YouTube and into radio. M83 invited TNAF to remix a single and a Tiesto remix transformed 'Young Blood' into a club smash. By June 2012 the band, including David Beadle (bass guitar), Jesse Wood (drums) and Aaron Short (keyboards), had played to more than 600,000 people in 24 countries, and after two years of near-constant touring, set up home in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles to begin work on the twelve track album. The resulting album, In Rolling Waves, was produced by Powers and Short, along with Justin Meldal-Johnsen (M83, Beck and NIN). In 2013, the band will commence a North American tour in late September before heading to Europe and arriving in the UK late November. Dates below.
In Rolling Waves Track listing:
1. A Stillness
2. Hearts Like Ours
3. Waltz

Fronted by Powers (guitar/vocalts) and Alisa Xayalith (vocals/keyboards), The Naked and Famous lit a fire under an online fan base, with a video subculture built through YouTube and into radio.

Nadine Shah Releases new Video for 'Runaway'

August 27th, 2013 - New York, NY - Nadine Shah has released a brand new video for her single, 'Runaway' from the debut, critically acclaimed album Love Your Dum And Mad. The record, produced by Ben Hillier (Blur, Elbow, Doves, Depeche Mode) was released via R&S/Apollo Records on July 23rd.

The video is cleared for posting and you can grab it here:

"Nadine Shah has a powerful voice and a way with striking moods. The London-based songwriter channels the bleak work of contemporaries Tiny Vipers and Scout Niblett, though infuses her songs with a powerful operatic bent." SPIN "Love Your Dum And Mad’ is an accomplished debut from the Whitburn-raised songwriter born of Norwegian and Pakistani parents, one in which Shah joins the canon of musicians who push the boundaries of singer-songwriter traditions." Six long years since the release of
What Is?!
, cult musical legends King Khan & The Shrines are launching their third studio album on Merge Records next week!
Idle No More
proves this psychedelic soul band can not only induce feverish frenzied dance floor killers, but also mix it up with timeless hymns and some more serious socio-political issues at the same time. It's about the state of the world we live in today and it's King Khan & The Shrines' most refined piece of music yet. The album, named after an indigenous rights movement, offers a glimmer of hope in such chaotic times. "Idle No Morereally documents a very big healing process that I had to go through in the past few years and I hope that this music can help the healing process the world is so badly in need of right now," says Khan. Looks like what has been called the "wildest show on earth" is gearing up for the revolution! If your soul needs a good cleansing then listen to the new record now in it its entirety via SPINand catch the crazy live spectacle as they celebrate the new record in venues and radio stations all over North America this fall.

Artist Max Hooper Schneider taps Jorge Elbrecht to create soundscape

Long time friends and veterans of phantasmagoria, musician/producer Jorge Elbrecht and artist Max Hooper Schneider announce their first public intersection of sound and form. Click on the soundcloud link above to hear an excerpt of Jorge Elbrecht's soundscape.
The collaboration merges Schneider's creation of a life-sized glowing Beluga whale skeleton (currently fundraising on Kickstarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/712313083/the-glowing-beluga-whale-skeleton) with Elbrecht's sonic interpretations of bone and phosphorescence. The resulting soundscape, an icy miasma etched with the click trains and burst pulses of the Beluga whale, expands the field in which the sculptural specimen is experienced and presents a dank, liquid ambience evocative of a paranormal field recording. The research behind the soundscape is extended further to syncopate with both the breathing behavior of the Beluga whale and the accompanying lighting system that refreshes the glow of the sculpture. The 20-minute track loop signals the maximum duration of time the white cetacean can hold its breath, while the recurring apex of chord progressions reveals the Beluga taking small sips of air as it propels across the ocean surface.
The resulting combination of the installed sculpture and soundscape produce an unprecedented and affecting artwork that is scheduled to debut this fall at numerous venues in both New York and Los Angeles.
About Max Hooper Schneider:Max Hooper Schneider is an artist holding a master's degree from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. His work focuses on the agency of matter and the production of scientific knowledge and spans a wide range of media. He has recently completed a large-scale work for the Mongolian Land Art Biennial in the Gobi Desert and exhibited across many indoor and outdoor venues worldwide. His most recent solo show at Vavassori in Milan will appear in the forthcoming issue of Artforum and has received praise from the Missoni Foundation and Wallpaper Magazine. Max continues to collaborate with architects, scientists, and musicians and has solo shows this fall at Gallery 169 in Los Angeles and the Hudson Basilica in New York. He has been working on the glowing Beluga whale skeleton for the past year and will complete it this fall in tandem with the release of its sonic counterpart.
About Jorge Elbrecht:Jorge Elbrecht has previously been involved with musical projects such as Violens and the NYC art company Lansing-Dreiden. He is currently a touring member of Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti. He has also helped make records for many other artists. Most recently he produced/mixed No Joy's Wait to Pleasure and he co-produced/mixed the forthcoming Au Revoir Simone record, Move in Spectrums. In addition to all of that, Elbrecht is teaming up with other artist/songwriters for a series of 7" releases in different styles and grouped album headings on Mexican Summer. In June of 2013 a split 7" with Ariel Pink, "Hang on To Life" was released. The next in the series is a collaboration with Caroline Polachek from Chairlift (the first issue of the electronic "Gloss Coma" series.) Another series, entitled "R.I.P", will be focused on ambient or environmental sound for places of rest--the installation site of the Glowing Beluga Whale Sculpture by Max Hooper Schneider being the first of these places.
