LA LUZ SHARE "PINK SLIME"

LA LUZ SHARE "PINK SLIME," NEW MP3 SINGLE FROM DEBUT ALBUM IT'S ALIVE, DUE OUT 10/15

MP3 - "Pink Slime"
MP3 - "
Big Big Blood"

We're less than one month away from the release of It's Alive, the debut full-length from Seattle's most talked-about new band, La Luz. This week, the band offers another taste of this anticipated record: the peppy "Pink Slime," which handily demonstrates the band's enviable knock for disarming four-part harmonies and searing surf melodies. To stream or download the track, visit Stereogum.com, the Hardly Art Soundcloud page, or click the link above. See below for a full list of La Luz's upcoming performances, including their fall tour with of Montreal.

About the record:

Seattle’s La Luz recorded their debut EP, Damp Face, in a small trailer on a hot August day. But barring the inevitable “no-AC-in-the-van” summer tour calamity, La Luz runs cool. Their brand of coolness isn’t about distance or affect; it’s a mood, and—sue me, but I’m about to totally rip off Zelda Fitzgerald: Something about this music vibrates to the dusky, dreamy smell of dying moons and shadows. So yeah, that kind of cool.

Still, La Luz’s live shows, more than most these days, are about connection. It’s evident that the four ridiculously talented ladies on stage are not only playing music with each other, but for each other. And they engage their audience as well. Like a proper punk band—which they are not— they give you shit for not dancing. They convey a gritty self-possession, a sense that they’ve been there and back again. And, like the expert, but seemingly effortless, surf licks and meandering bass lines that rise and fall throughout their songs, their mocking is playful and dreamy and disarming enough to get most of the crowd (and sometimes the keyboard player) dancing down the center line of a soul train.

But as any half-assed Freudian will tell you, there can be no meaningful connection without first weathering some dark and lonely times. Here comes the chilly part: What makes La Luz stand out—and stand out fast—the band has only been playing together for a year and people took notice almost immediately—is that this is a band that embodies that most elusive slant on the human condition: longing, and the fleeting relief that tags alongside deep desire.

RJD2 Presents "Temperamental" Feat. Phonte Coleman

RJD2 PRESENTS "TEMPERAMENTAL" FEAT. PHONTE COLEMAN
MORE IS THAN ISN'T OUT OCTOBER 8TH ON RJ'S ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER NOW  From his very first producer credit on the MHz 12" "Rocket Science" (Fondle 'Em Records) to the critical and commercial success of debut album Deadringer  (Def Jux) to birthing "A Beautiful Mine" (aka the theme song to AMC's "Mad Men"), it is no question RJD2 (aka Ramble Krohn) has had a very impressive fifteen year career. Released on his own RJ's Electrical Connections, his forthcoming and fifth full-length LP, More Is Than Isn't , expands on RJD2's already wide sonic palette. Throughout, he continues to focus on the basic idea that has consistently driven him through his years as a producer and composer - creating soulful, beat-oriented, melodic music. In typical RJ fashion, he showcases new production techniques and approaches through mostly instrumental music, at times remindful of the ethereal, beat driven vibes of his debut album, and a dynamic range not heard before on an RJD2 album, from bombastic club music to subdued jazz-tinged pieces with much funk in between. Though More Is Than Isn'tis mostly an instrumental affair, it does feature several vocalists, and today, after sharing with you one of the album's standout instrumental tracks, "Her Majesty's Socialist Request," RJ is excited to present the rich, soulful vibes of "Temperamental" feat. Phonte Coleman (Little Brother, Foreign Exchange). Head to Esquire.com  for an exclusive interview with RJ and to check out this new jam.
More Is Than Isn't is out October 8th on RJ's Electrical Connections and available for pre-order. The iTunes pre-order includes an instant grat of "Temperamental."

Best Coast Share First Single, "I Don't Know How"

BEST COAST SHARES FIRST SINGLE "I DON'T KNOW HOW" FROM NEW MINI-ALBUM VIA NPR

FADE AWAY OUT OCTOBER 22ND

Best Coast - "I Don't Know How" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-c8WOprJjE
Fade Away,  out October 22, the first release on Bethany Cosentino's Jewel City label, in partnership with Kobalt Label Services, sets Best Coast off on a new burst of independence and creativity, which includes another album they'll start recording in November for release this Spring. And it reflects the increased confidence that Cosentino and her bandmate, multi-instrumentalist Bobb Bruno, gained in the three surreal years since their breakthrough album Crazy For You.
Celebrated as darlings of the lo-fi, it lead to defiantly hi-fi events like performing with childhood idols Green Day and No Doubt, dueting with Kendrick Lamar and Iggy Pop, having Drew Barrymore direct their Chloe Moretz-starring video, creating a new collection for Urban Outfitters, and working with the widescreen producer Jon Brion, who's overseen masterpieces by Kanye West and Fiona Apple, on an album that made Rolling Stone and Spin Magazine's Top Albums of 2012. Producing and mixing this time alongside Bethany and Bobb was Wally Gagel, who's recorded over twenty iTunes Originals sessions, including one with Best Coast back in 2011.
This new freedom led Cosentino to a faster-paced, energetic set of songs inspired by Mazzy Star, Patsy Cline, My Bloody Valentine and Ambien. "Everything in this band has worked out so organically that sometimes it scares me that something bad is going to happen.  I don't even understand why this is happening. I made some songs, I put them up on the internet, and here I am now. I feel like the luckiest person in the world. If I wasn't doing this, I don't know what I would be doing." - Bethany Cosentino.

Swedish Duo Korallreven Debuts New Track with Cornelius

Swedish Duo Korallreven Debuts New Track with Cornelius

In the Studio Finishing Sophomore Album

Stream 'Try Anything Once feat. Cornelius' at Pitchfork or SoundCloud
Korallreven (Marcus Joons and Daniel Tjäder of The Radio Dept) returns with new single 'Try Anything Once,' one of their catchiest moments to date. The single is rich in texture thanks to Japanese legend Corneliuson background vocals and a Swedish gospel choir that enters at the 3:00 mark. Throughout the song, the baggy, blissful sound of the debut album is recognizable, but a window to something new made clear.
'Try Anything Once' is the first new material from Korallreven since their debut album, An Album by Korallreven , on Acéphalein fall 2011. The album received high marks for its paradisean mix of dancehall, church choirs and Houston hip-hop. Hits such as 'As Young As Yesterday' (featuring Taken By Trees' Victoria Bergsman and 'Sa Sa Samoa' (featuring Julianna Barwick) were some of the most blogged about singles of the season. Following which, the Swedes played stages across North America and Europe.
The band is currently finishing album number two.
The 'Try Anything Once' single is presented as a limited edition 12" single from the Rallye label in Japan. Pre-order here.

Today, Richmond’s psyche-doomers, Windhand, finally release their second full-length LP, Somaon Relapse Records.  The album is nothing short of transcendent and speaks to more than just doom-metal fanatics—this is an epic record for all fans of guitar driven rock and roll.  On Soma, Windhand successfully make syrupy slow, downtuned doom hooky and anthemic.  Propelled by singer Dorthia Cottrell’s beautifully haunting bellow, Windhand’s dual guitar attack sounds like the glorious misfit offspring of Black Sabbath and Nirvana.  An easy candidate for heavy music record of the year.  The album was recorded and mixed by the band’s own Garrett Morris at The Darkroom and mastered by James Plotkin in their hometown.  This week Canada’s Exclaim shares a full album stream HERE and SPIN hosts a special edition of Soma with track by track commentary from the band – stream HERE.
  Stream Soma via Bandcamp HERE
(please post and share)
After rightfully surging the DIY circuit with stirring live shows, their very own IPA, a critically acclaimed self-titled release last year and a split with label-mates Cough this year, Windhand take their next step forth with Somaand an extensive US and European tour that include legs with High On Fire, Kvelertak and a performance at next year’s Roadburn Festival in the Netherlands.  See below for a full list of dates.

Formed in 2009, Windhand (Asechiah Bogdan - Guitar, Parker Chandler - Bass, Dorthia Cottrell - Vocals, Garrett Morris - Guitar, and Ryan Wolfe - Drums) play what has been described as a tinnitus inducing mix of eerie psychedelia and haunting ambient doom. 2012 saw the release of their self-titled, debut LP via Forcefield Records and was critically acclaimed by Decibel, Pitchfork, CVLT Nation and many more.

In The Valley Below - "Peaches" on The Late Show With David Letterman
In The Valley Below will be bringing their songs to multiple venues this October supporting White Lies and Cold War Kids, including two nights at New York's Bowery Ballroom and a stop at the El Rey Theater in their hometown of Los Angeles. For the band's full itinerary, please see below.
In The Valley Below is a new musical pairing delivering hushed swirls of male and female vocals forged with dark stories of brooding riddles and romance. Jeffrey grew up in the storied musical town of Memphis, given a guitar at the age of 13 and creating music from that point forward. Angela left the binding depths of a "mostly cold and cloudy town in Michigan," for a life at sea, finding initial songwriting inspiration while living on a small boat in the West Indies. In The Valley Below was created when these two found each other, having crossed paths in artistic circles after they separately made their way to Los Angeles. The duo honed their craft together, using faithful archetypes as their inspiration, "Our biggest inspiration is powerful subjects like sex, crime and religion. And how that fits into the lives we've chosen, our dreams and struggles, mistakes and heartbreaks."
