Jon Hopkins has shared a stunning new video for his single "Breathe This Air feat. Purity Ring," which is released this week. The video was directed by Anthony Dickenson, who said the following:
"I was interested in those times when you think you're totally alone in your thoughts and something unexpectedly disrupts that, snapping you out. The characters in the film have very different stories but I wanted to create distinct parallels, bringing them closer and closer until they actually intersect in a single defining moment."

The single version of "Breathe This Air" features Purity Ring's Megan James, whose vocals transform the track into a vast and shimmering expanse, bringing waves of beautiful melancholy to the original's dark and dusty techno. "Breathe This Air" is the second single taken from the universally acclaimed Immunity , which was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize last week.

OFF! Premieres New Track From Grand Theft Auto

While Keith Morris is currently winding down from a stint as a member of FLAG, his OFF! project featuring members of Earthless, Redd Kross, Rocket from the Crypt and more is still running strong.  The throwback punk project has released a new track with "What's Next?", their contribution to the gaming juggernaut Grand Theft Auto V.

It’s been 18 months since the Swedish duo first posted their hit single ‘ I Love It ft. Charlie XCX ’ online. Since that day, both Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt, otherwise known as Icona Pop, have gone on to be internationally acclaimed pop-stars. In advance of the release of her highly anticipated third album, Tall Tall Shadow , The Onion’s A.V. Club premieres an exclusive stream of the full album. It can be found HERE. Secret City Records will release Tall Tall Shadow on September 30.
Bulat co-produced Tall Tall Shadow with Tim Kingsbury of Arcade Fire and Mark Lawson, Grammy-winning engineer of Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs. The first single can be streamed HERE and is available for preorder HERE. The album is inspired in equal parts by tragic loss and abundant joy, which is reflected in more directly personal, emotional lyrics. It marks a sonic departure from her earlier work, moving away from her long-time practice of writing songs on the guitar or autoharp and instead primarily using piano and charango, an instrument which Basia has been unable to put down since receiving it from a friend.Basia chose to work with Lawson and Kingsbury knowing that they would not only challenge her but also push her music to new places. Several cuts on Tall Tall Shadow were recorded during live, full band takes, an achievement she attributes to the creative environment nurtured by her two co-producers. The album also features the work of one of her favorite collaborators, her brother Bobby.The album follows Basia’s 2007 debut album Oh, My Darling and 2010’s Heart of My Own, of which NPR Music says Bulat’s voice is “a single powerful element.” SPIN praises the Juno-nominated singer’s “bright harmonies and … resonant alto voice” and Mother Jones raves, “this crafty Canadian folkie turns seemingly simple songs into engrossing accounts of desire and regret.”Basia has garnered great critical acclaim; Pitchfork praises her “rare, extraordinary voice,” and Filterdeclares “Bulat can pine with the best of them.” She has toured in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Australia sharing the stage with artists including St. Vincent, Tune-Yards, Arcade Fire, Andrew Bird and Nick Cave. Frankie Rose Announces Tour Dates With Franz Ferdinand

Rose's highly anticipated new album, Herein Wild, is out today on Fat Possum Records. The New York Times' album review commended the album, noting that Rose's "melodies are always crisply defined by hooks that are distributed between riffing guitars and her high, airy voice." The Village Voice ran a full page feature in this week's issue on Rose, called the album "addictively dynamic" while Interview Magazine described Rose's new offering as a "tighter, darker album." MSN declared Herein Wild as an album "full of pristine songs that harken back to the golden age of gloomy, swirling guitars," while AllMusic raved that "Rose performs a magical synthesis of her first two albums to reveal her most satisfying and accomplished record yet."

Golden Animals Release New LP

Brooklyn duo Golden Animals are releasing their sophomore album  Hear Eye Go this week on Vinyl, CD, Cassette and Digital formats. Released via The Reverberation Appreciation Society - the label arm of Austin Psych Fest - Hear Eye Go is the follow-up to their 2008 debut Free Your Mind and Win a Pony.  In conjunction with the release, Hear Eye Go premiered in full via Consequence of Sound, praising the album as "most impressive because Eisner's guitar and Beecroft's kit are the only instruments heard... With little more than their own prowess and resolve, Golden Animals capture all their musical and locational influences in succinct bursts of haunting psych-rock."Hear Eye Go is available for streaming/embed in its entirety HERE.
Dividing their time between the extremes of Brooklyn and the California desert since their 2006 inception, longtime friends Tommy Eisner (vocals/guitar) and Linda Beecroft (drums/backing vocals) construct tales of love, friendship and seclusion while keeping their sound simultaneously energetic and meditative. They view their two home bases as complementary influences, shaping their sound equally but very differently.
Golden Animals' commitment to the fruits of their labor is impressive-the band recorded an entire LP in a California cabin, only to scrap it upon finding that limitations on their recording process diminished the power of the tracks. That rigid commitment to their work is readily apparent throughout Hear Eye Go's 10 tracks--they're exactly what they need to be, full of rock and roll energy and devoid of filler.
Despite its full-bodied sound, no bass guitars or organs were used in the record's creation-it's all drums and guitar. Hear Eye Go was recorded by Matt Boynton (MGMT, Kurt Vile) at Vacation Island Recordings, and by the band themselves at their own studio. Joe LaPorta (Foo Fighters, Beach House) mastered the album at The Lodge.

With his unexpectedly deep and mournful baritone tracing fissures of disappointment and social disorientation to devastating effect, Marshall has harnessed the inchoate frustration and fury of youth and translated it into a series of brilliant singles released on the likes of True Panther Sounds and Rinse over the past few years.
Now comes 6 Feet Beneath the Moon, his first full-length on XL Recordings/True Panther Sounds, and with it, the much anticipated unveiling of the full scope and scale of Marshall's vision. Over the course of 14 tracks, Marshall's passions and confusions are rubbed raw and laid bare, the only connective tissue throughout it all being one of searing lyrical clarity paired with a confounding musical deftness which utterly belies his tender years. From the opening clarion call of "Easy, Easy" it is abundantly clear that this is a breathtakingly bold and arresting sonic worldview, as his songs, produced by Marshall along with Rodaidh McDonald (The XX, Savages), open up to become a loose knit meditation on regret and discontent, loss of faith and renewal of hope, and optimism in the face of desperation.
Eschewing much of his previously released material, 6 Feet Beneath the Moon firmly yet soundly rejects any notion of contemporary trends or peers to occupy its very own unique place on the music landscape, oscillating gently between the classic 50's soul of Gene Vincent and Elvis Presley to the minimal, avant-garde experimentation of Penguin Café Orchestra, to even the electronic smog and dub textures of Marshall's beloved Rinse FM. This is a record where the nakedly bluesy stomp of the likes of "A Lizard State" and "Easy, Easy" sit effortlessly next to the low-end frequency and shimmering beats of "Neptune Estate" and "Will I Come," after all. It is reflective as much of Marshall's own eclectic tastes as it is of the frenetic pulse and rhythm of the city around him, particularly the rapidly changing south-east areas in which he grew up. There is a genuine grittiness and world weariness ingrained here, as exemplified so succinctly when Marshall sings, "Hate...runs through my blood" on the stunning "Out Getting Ribs," the track which started all the fuss.
