Carbon Leaf Announces New Album + National Tour

CARBON LEAF RELEASES NEW ALBUM Fall Tour Confirmed    photo by Elmo Thamm
Carbon Leaf releases Constellation Prize on October 1, 2013. Listen and share the featured track, "Ragtime Carnival" at: https://soundcloud.com/carbonleaf/ragtime-carnival/s-Insdo?in=carbonleaf/sets/constellation-prize/s-Insdo
After a full Spring touring schedule, Carbon Leaf continues performing live throughout the United States until the end of the year.

This year kicked off with the release of Ghost Dragon Attacks Castle , a 12-song collection of Celtic-inspired, original tunes. Already a fan favorite, it debuted at #15 on the Billboard Top New Artist Album Chart  (2/24/13) and #2 on the iTunes Rock Chart (2/24/13).
Sixth months later, Carbon Leaf’s 11th album, Constellation Prize is the companion piece to Ghost Dragon Attacks Castle and explores American roots and folk, with 10 tracks ranging in tone from bluegrass and Appalachia, to country, rock and some more languid, extended jams.

The band’s autonomous spirit forges on in recording and producing independently from their own studio. Releasing their music directly to fans has rekindled their creative output and inspired them to release more music and with greater frequency. Since 2010, the band has released 5 independent albums – why wait two years for an album cycle?
Blending musical traditions into their own sound for 12 albums now, Carbon Leaf’s music can best be summed up by the title of one of their earliest releases, “Ether-Electrified Porch Music.”   The Carbon Leaf sound conveys an aura of warmth, punctuated by diverse instruments including mandolin, upright bass, fiddle, penny whistle, banjo, cello, peddle steel, accordion, acoustic and electric guitars, bodhrán and bagpipes.

Now in their 20th year of award-winning recording, this Richmond, Virginia quintet is consistently traversing America with their nonstop touring schedule, bringing with them an impressive portfolio of achievements, as they continue to produce a steady stream of new music coupled with energetic live-shows throughout North America. View the enthralling live show and some behind-the-scenes footage at: http://www.carbonleaf.com/media/
Carbon Leaf debuted as an independent college band in 1993, eventually leading to a recording contract with Vanguard Recordsin 2004, resulting in three albums during their six years with the label. Along the way, Carbon Leaf scored hit singles at AAA and Hot AC Radio with “Life Less Ordinary” and “The Boxer.” The band placed first in the International Songwriting Competition for “The War Was In Color” and was the first independent band to ever win an American Music Award for the “The Boxer” in 2002.  In 2010, Carbon Leaf wrote six songs for the Curious George 2 soundtrack (Universal Pictures).

Today, HAERTS announce the release of their Hemiplegia EP to come out on 10/8 via Columbia Records. HAERTS partnered with Spotify to premiere the EP a week early on NYLON Magazine HERE. The band just finished up their tour with Washed Out, and will play the Neon Gold Records Showcase and a KEXP Live Session at CMJ Festival next month.
About the EP artwork, the band says: "The cover art is based on two images that have been meaningful to us and capture the title, sound and feel of "Hemiplegia".  Gerhard Richter's Cloud is the first image we used as band and has always remained significant. In our search for an image for "Hemiplegia," we drew from another of Richter's most haunting works from the 70s, titled I.G.. His treatment of the body, impossibly and eternally suspended in a moment, emotes the sense of paralysis found in the track "Hemiplegia." This is why we chose to interpret I.G. with a photograph of Nini set against the cloud".
HAERTS is a band based in New York hailing from Germany, England, and the United States. The group consists of Nini Fabi, Ben Gebert, Garrett Ienner, Derek McWilliams, and Jonathan Schmidt. The EP was produced in collaboration with Jean-Philip Grobler (aka St. Lucia). Late last year, the band revealed their first song “Wings” . In April, they collaborated with Emily Kai Bock for the gorgeous official “Wings” video.
The band has shared their upcoming album live on tours with Shout Out Louds, Atlas Genius, Fitz And The Tantrums and Washed Out. HAERTS' debut album is due in 2014.

BRIANNA LEA PRUETT'S GYPSY BELLS

BRIANNA LEA PRUETT'S GYPSY BELLS OUT TODAY VIA CANYON RECORDSPASTE PREMIERES GYPSY BELLS ALBUM STREAM
"Brianna Lea Pruett's sweet vocals and vivid lyrics are continuing to garner more attention in anticipation of the forthcoming release of Gypsy Bells" - PASTE

Gypsy Bells available in all formats and streaming at iTunes | Amazon | Spotify | SoundCloud
Today, Canyon Records releases the "breathtaking folk" and "quiet bucolic beauty" of Brianna Lea Pruett's stunning collection of songs that form her debut Gypsy Bells. Paste Magazine continues to champion Pruett by premiering the entirety of Gypsy Bells yesterday saying "Brianna Lea Pruett has captivated us with her sweet vocals and rustic lyrics."
Gypsy Bells is as informed by Pruett's Cherokee and Choctaw heritage as it is her parent's vinyl collection, with influences ranging from Leonard Cohen and Emmylou Harris to Pruett's personal discoveries of Mazzy Star and Neko Case. Gypsy Bells cuts to the quick within the simplicity and poignant themes across the range of the album seeming juxtaposed to the richness of Pruett's Native American heritage and her California folk traditions.
"Your songs sound just like mine" - Daniel Johnston

Much of Brianna's Gypsy Bells, particularly "It's All Right" comes in the form of self-examination and life in the moment... "We can write our own life story, we get to choose ourselves, our integrity, our responses, our passions, our vices. It's definitely a freedom song," says Pruett. "Dream this life with me. What's the best thing we can dream together? Who are you in the dream? That's what this song is about. Dream something you like."

The Limiñanas To Release Costa Blanca Nov. 19

THE LIMIÑANAS TO RELEASE COSTA BLANCA NOVEMBER 19TH ON TROUBLE IN MIND
STREAM/SHARE THE LIMIÑANAS' "MY BLACK SABBATH"http://snd.sc/17oAvga  The Limiñanas, the brainchild of French duo Lio and Marie Limiñana, are back on Trouble In Mind with their third album, Costa Blanca , out November 19th! Once again, recorded at their home in the south of France by Lio himself, Costa Blanca pushes the envelope of their signature Franc-o-phonic sound -- the coloeur café cool of Gainsbourg, the hypnotic drone of VU-era Cale, and the spiky fuzz of Davie Allan. This time around the band incorporate avant-classical and experimental sonic elements, lacing the tunes with a dramatic flair of French New Wave soundtracks and the percussive accents found in Morricone's work in Il Gruppo. Melodic "jump-cuts," sonic echoes of previous tunes and future melodies, appear and disappear throughout the course of this album (and The Limiñanas' entire oeuvre). Thematically, Costa Blanca is an insular record, with subjects that reference Lio's youth growing up in Spain in the 1970's near the Mediterranean Sea and nostalgic odes to the music, films, girls, books and cars that shaped his world.
STREAM/SHARE THE LIMIÑANAS' "MY BLACK SABBATH" - http://snd.sc/17oAvga
"Marie and Lio Limiñana are making something new with the echoes of France's artistic past. . . Marie's airy vocals add that retro element to the modern soundscape, which even features glimmers of Mediterranean melodies. The driving bassline also has a throwback vibe, but its place within the production and combination with the rest of the instrumentation gives it a twenty-first-century flavor. The Limiñanas know how to make established styles sound new again." -  Ad Hoc

Sebadoh performs in New York on November 1st

Sebadoh's first LP in 14 years, Defend Yourself, is out now on Joyful Noise Recordings and is streaming in its entirety at Bandcamp!

Fans can catch them live at the Bowery Ballroom on November 1st.
WHAT THE PRESS IS SAYING ABOUT DEFEND YOURSELF:
"Even as Barlow offers up clear-eyed postmortems of a wrecked marriage, Defend Yourself exudes the live-wire energy of a vital band brought back from the brink." NPR "A private project became a public one, and this is its legitimate new chapter."
The New York Times "...great, gritty new songs and refreshing upgrades to their idiosyncratic aesthetic." Exclaim! "Fuck yeah, we still need indie-rock bands!" SPIN "So, yeah, it’s not surprising that a band has changed after 14 years without a record, but the changes here, the subtlety of them, are bracing and make Defend Yourself not just a welcome return, but a shot in the arm for the band, the listeners, and indie rock at large." Pop Matters "...his muse hasn’t run out of ways to torture him yet." Pitchfork "That a band can successfully experiment after such an extended break is a testament to their self-preservation." FILTER "Luckily for everyone - from the peach-fuzz hipsters who claim to have witnessed the original incarnation of the band in the flesh, to those who actually did - Defend Yourself is virtually filler-less, unlike so many filler-hiding-behind-one-good-song returns." MAGNET "It harks back to the classic sounds of Sebadoh - tender Barlow ballads, balls to the wall Loewenstein rockers - essentially the yin and yang that endeared the band to so many fans throughout the 90's, with the artistic growth you'd expect from a band 14 years removed from their last album." Under The Radar "A band maintaining the same sound after 14 years is not usually a positive. With Sebadoh, it's a gift." eMusic
