Ellen Foley Goes National with the Release
Ellen Foley Goes National with the Release of About Time via Urban Noise 11/5 in Collaboration with Sands Foley Entertainment; Early Reviews are Raves...
"A Rock n Roll Queen Goes Americana; It's About Time for Ellen Foley" No Depression
Female rocker Ellen Foley is best known as the powerhouse voice behind Meat Loaf's multi-platinum 1977 legendary duet, "Paradise by the Dashboard Light," but after a 30-year hiatus from the music industry, she is releasing an electrifying new album aptly titled, About Time. It's her first solo album since the 1983 release Another Breath via Cleveland International Records, a division of Epic Records. About Time will be released on her own imprint, Urban Noise, on November 5th, in collaboration with the newly launched Sands Foley Entertainment - a management and marketing company started by label veterans Sheri Sands and Paul Foley.
With production from Eric Ambel of the legendary roots rock band The Del-Lords paired with the dynamic songwriting of Paul Foglino from the cult favorite 5 Chinese Brothers, About Time finds Foley in top form. Her unmistakable powerhouse vocals meld beautifully with the edgy, guitar-driven compositions that are nostalgic yet fresh-certifying her reign as a veteran in power pop world while pronouncing her readmission on classic rock grounds. The transfixing choruses that she delivers are unrelenting.
"It's important for me to release a new record at this point in time, " says Foley. I feel really powerful vocally, and the songs Paul Foglino has written fit so well. They have a real integrity that increases my legitimacy as an artist. In terms of making records now vs 30 years ago, I have to say it's intimidating. The digital, the social network is something I need to dive into head first. And be surrounded with people who understand it all. Which, thankfully, I do, she adds."
"I am excited to be working with Ellen again. I had the pleasure of working with her many years ago at CBS Records and after all this time, she still rocks," says Sheri Sands. "There's been many changes in music over this time, adds Paul Foley (no relation), but Ellen's great rock n roll voice is as strong as ever. We're honored to be representing her."
Ellen's dossier includes a string of credits, from music to film and theatre. She received several gold records and awards for her three solo albums recorded on Epic Records (Night Out, Spirit of St. Louis, Another Breath), which were produced by high profile rock legends such as Ian Hunter, Mick Ronson, and Mick Jones and Joe Strummer of The Clash. She was the inspiration for The Clash's "Should I Stay, or Should I Go," and has sung backup on Joe Jackson's ("Is She Really Going Out With Him?" Steppin' Out" and "Sunday Papers"). Foley also taught at the School of Rock, the foundation for Jack Black's 2003 film of the same title.
During her so-called "hiatus," she raised two incredible sons (now 23 and 19), and found success on the big screen and the stage with featured roles in the films "Hair," "Tootsie,""Fatal Attraction," "Married to the Mob," and "Cocktail" - and leading roles on Broadway in "Me and My Girl," " Into The Woods." She also played a public defender in the TV series "Night Court," and was a host on the
Early reviews for About TIme:"Her big booming voice remains intact and is still a formidable instrument. She is also very much still a rock and roll woman!" Seattle P.I.
"It's not especially common for artists to make their best albums three and a half decades down the line. Nevertheless, that's exactly what Ellen Foley seems to have done with About Time." Critical Mob
"Ellen Foley's return to recording is a fantastic thing to behold. indeed! Eric Ambel, producer

Black Hearted Brother Debut Album Stars Are Our Home
Black Hearted Brother Debut Album Stars Are Our Home
Out October 22 On Slumberland Records Band features Slowdive's Neil Halstead, Seefeel's Mark Van Hoen
& Nick Holton of Holton's Opulent Oog
Rolling Stone Premieres "This Is How It Feels" MP3
Download: "This Is How It Feels" via Rolling Stone or SoundCloud
"Black Hearted Brother make some glorious noise" - SPIN Neil Halstead, Mark Van Hoen, and Nick Holton of the newly-formed Black Hearted Brother will release their debut album Stars Are Our Home on October 22nd on Slumberland Records. The album is available for pre-order now in the Slumberland Online Store. Rolling Stone is running a premiere "This Is How It Feels" from the album and the track is also available to post and share viaSoundCloud. Black Hearted Brother's Neil Halstead told Rolling Stone, "'This is How It Feels' was one of the first tracks we worked on together. Nick Holton and I originally started working round a keyboard riff that came from somewhere else an old tune or demo, not sure, but it fitted with a bass line Nick had been playing around with. The chorus was the first part that came together and as with all the tracks on the record it evolved into it's present form over quite a period of time."
A brave, beautiful yet experimental album, Stars Are Our Home boasts the craftsmanship of Halstead, Van Hoen, and Holton's impressive resumes: Neil Halstead, previously an influential member of Slowdive and Mojave 3; Mark Van Hoen, an original member of Seefeel, subsequently working solo and as Locust; and Nick Holton, the main mover behind Holton's Opulent Oog, and member of Coley Park, who have released albums on Halstead's Shady Lane label. They had also previously worked together on Halstead's 2001 solo album, Sleeping On Roads, though Van Hoen also co-produced Mojave 3's Out Of Tune (1998), Excuses For Travellers (2000) and Spoon & Rafter(2003), while Holton took up production duties for Halstead's Palindrome Hunches (2012). Van Hoen and Halstead go back much further still, to 1992, when they were in Seefeel and Slowdive respectively.
Stars Are Our Home mirrors the similar experimental nature of Halstead's previous work - he describes the album as, "a lot of very long and indulgent space rawk." The space-rock elements of the album are obvious in the album's opening title track, but Halstead says there's more to it: "The idea was to just make a record that was in some ways 'unedited.' To not worry about a particular sound or style, but to just go with the flow. We all make quite focused records individually so, as Mark says, it's our 'guilty pleasures' album."A record that beautifully merges "order" and "chaos", Stars Are Our Home is full of unexpected twists and turns that drench the listener in noise and then flip back to acoustic melody, and offers surprises with lyrics that sometimes reference romance and other times UFO abduction. Although unexpected and surprising, the experimental nature of the album never forgets the importance of pop with tracks like, "Take Heart," "I'm Back," and the closing track, "Look Back Here They Come."Black Hearted Brother will announce U.S. tour dates in support of Stars Are Our Home in the coming weeks. Stars Are Our Home Track List1. Stars Are Our Home 2. (I Don't Mean To) Wonder (MP3) 3. This Is How It Feels 4. Got Your Love 5. If I Was Here To Change Your Mind 6. UFO 7. Time In The Machine8. Finnish Duo Shine 2009 Deals Drugs to Seniors in 'Older' Video
Our Nation LP Due October 15th on Cascine/Modular "Shine 2009 embrace the easy, midtempo shake of clubby 1990s pop, evoking the atmosphere of dark discotheques rather than the beaches of Ibiza" - Pitchfork

Finnish duo Shine 2009 have unveiled a gun-toting, drug-pushing, senior citizen-supplying new video for new single 'Older,' directed by Eugene Kortyarenko (Julia Holter), and have announced an expansive European tour with Cut Copy in support of their forthcoming album, Our Nation , out October 15th on Cascine (US)/Modular(ROW). Pre-order the vinyl here. 'Older' follows their first single, 'Eurozone,' which Pitchfork described as "a gentle collage of orchestrations, samples, and atmosphere."
Eugene explains: "The way I figure it, if you have a kitten, a baby, a grandpa and a gun, you already have the raw ingredients for a stonecold classic. I don't know that this gets there, but it feels pretty good to me."
The band also premiered a new Modcast mix today, featuring cuts from artists as diverse as Beats International, Janet Jackson and How to Dress Well. Hear it now.
With respectful nods to downtempo, soul and golden-era hip hop, their 2010 debut EP, Associates, showcased an undeniable ease and effortless confidence in both sound and feel. 2011 saw Shine 2009 release their inaugural full-length, Realism , a sumptuous and dazzling debut including a cameo from none other than Paula Abdul, strengthening the link between the way-back-then and the right-here-right-now ethos that is at the heart of Suova and Pykäri's aesthetic.

TANCRED (NOW, NOW'S JESS ABBOTT) TO RELEASE NEW SELF-TITED
TANCRED (NOW, NOW'S JESS ABBOTT) TO RELEASE NEW SELF-TITED ALBUM ON TOPSHELF RECORDS OCTOBER 15
STREAM THE FIRST SINGLE "THE RING"
Tancred will proudly release her new self-titled album on Topshelf Records this October 15th. The artistic moniker for Mainer and current Minneapolis resident Jess Abbott, Tancred serves as a creative outlet for her own songs outside the bounds of her roll as one third of the critically acclaimed trio Now, Now. Self-recorded with the help of fellow Now, Now band member Brad Hale, Tancred is Abbots' second full-length release, following up on 2011'sCapes.
Stream the lead single "The Ring" on YouTube at the link below.http://www.topshelfrecords.bigcartel.com/artist/tancred
The songs on Tancred leap from the speakers with an intense frenetic energy, unwinding like a long overdue conversation, spilling out a years worth of emotional energy discarded or withheld. Mixing sweetly sung dissonance and angular guitar tones, Abbott draws the listener in with deeply personal lyrics set to songs reminiscent of early Death Cab For Cutie and Tegan and Sara circa If It Was You.
Before she found herself ensconced within the landlocked bounds of the mid-west, Abbott began her life in California before moving with family to the coast of Maine at a young age. Her interest in music would blossom at the tender age of six with the help of an old acoustic guitar, and a lesson from her mother on how to play Boston's "More Than A Feeling". A healthy dose of curiosity kept her going until her first musical obsessions, Letters To Cleo and The Cure, instilled a desire to write and perform her own songs.
In High School Abbott played in a few different bands with varying local success, including a duo called Kids' Fiction. After graduating she threw caution to the wind and uprooted herself, moving to Minneapolis to join Now, Now before the release of their Neighbors EP and break out sophomore album Thread. Despite the intense demands of touring and recording as part of the much loved trio, Abbott has always found time to focus on her own songwriting. Through self-releases on BandCamp she cultivated a rabid following, at times paying the rent with the money made from sales, no small feat for an indie artist's low key solo releases. The tumblr fan pages and devotion inspired by her music is a testament to its magnetism.
Stay tuned for more news, music, and videos from Tancred in the coming weeks.
