Forest Fire's "Waiting In The Night" Video

Stereogum Premieres Forest Fire's "Waiting In The Night" Video New Album Screens Out Now On FatCat  Brooklyn Record Release Show October 5 At Glasslands     "Forest Fire recall the coterie of bands who either worked with Dave Fridmann or took cues from his production tactics in the late 1990s and early '00s-- groups that created studio-intensive, computerized folk that interacted with electronics while still being wary of their effect on human nature." - Pitchfork "The upcoming LP Screenshas been recorded with an outside engineer in a studio for the first time, making their washed-out sound more focused than ever before." - The Line Of Best Fit

"Expanding and refining on the best parts of Staring at the X, these songs have one foot in classic New York indie and the other in the synth-driven pop of the 2010s." - Allmusic
Watch: "Waiting In The Night" via Stereogum or YouTube
Listen: "Waiting In The Night" via SoundCloud

Stereogum has premiered Forest Fire's new track "Waiting In The Night" from the band's new album Screens out now on FatCat. The track is also available to post and share via SoundCloud. The video was filmed in Crown Heights, NY at a vintage store called Cool Pony. Director Jordan Alexandersays, "We considered having a live audience, but quickly opted to go without, which, while filming, it gave me this odd feeling like it was a performance people would've really liked to be at, if they'd have known about it, but they ended up missing out. Like people do. He added, "Here's this band playing a brilliant piece of music in some cool underground New York venue, and you would love it, but instead you're stuck at home watching reruns of your favorite show. Fortunately, the band had it filmed for you. And now your "Screen" will conveniently allow you to visit their world. Like a portal to an alternate reality, if you will, which is in-keeping with Mark's other worldly but grounded lyrics and (for me) is the feeling you get when listening to the album." Forest Fire has a Brooklyn record release show coming up on October 5 at Glasslands.    New York City's Forest Fire, led by vocalist/songwriter Mark Thresher, return this fall with Screens. With their third full-length, Forest Fire - now the quartet of Thresher, Natalie Stormann, Galen Bremer, and Robert Pounding - have found it.
"It" has been hinted at in previous releases - e.g. the howling languor of "Slow Motion", from the band's debut Survival (named one of Rough Trade Shops' top album of the year for 2010), or vitreous mid-tempo dejection ballad "The News" from 2011's FatCat issued Staring at the X ("You won't get far," Thresher sang, "with that look in your eyes") - but Screens is pure lightning.
After some lineup adjustments that left the band leaner and more centered, Forest Fire partnered with engineer Jonathan Schenke (Parquet Courts, Dirty Beaches) possibilities they'd before only touched on, and to enable their new songs to breathe and stretch out.
That stretching out is quite literal in the case of album centerpiece "Annie," an eleven- minute track that is wide but not sprawling, buoyed by motorik lope and ornate synths, that the band acknowledges owes a debt to the late '70s output of not only Kraftwerk but Yoko Ono, Joy Division, Laurie Anderson, and their ilk; Sandy Skoglund's iconic 1977 photograph Pink Sink is the cover.
From its darker, sparser, sonic landscapes, obsession with analog instrumentation, and movement-focused, heavily metaphorical lyrics, Screensfinds Forest Fire hewing to this mood. But for all the record's gratitude to the past, its aesthetic is just as much forward-looking, able to embrace the sunrise hooks of anthemic album opener "Waiting in the Night" and the Suicide-spooky synth-drone of "Cold Kind" as easily as "Alone with the Wires"'s jangly stride and Leonard Cohen-frosted vocal delivery.
Screens Track List  1. Waiting in the Night 2. Yellow Roses3. Passengers4. Monorail          5. Cold Kind          6. Fixation7. Annie8. The Great Wall          9. Alone with the Wires10. Never Far

Trentemøller Debuts New 'Candy Tongue' Video

Trentemøller Debuts New 'Candy Tongue' Video at Stereogum
Third Album Lost Featuring Blonde Redhead, The Raveonettes, The Drums, Low and more Due September 24th

"wide-ranging visionary dance tunes...[shifting] from shoe-gazey introspection to stripped-down club tunes with surf beats." - TIME 'Scandinavian Band You Should Listen To Now'

Danish electronic artist Anders Trentemøller has debuted a new video for 'Candy Tongue feat. Marie Fisker' at Stereogum. Directed by Thomas Jessen, the track features Danish singer/composer Marie Fisker, and, "uses a lot of time to visualize the atmosphere in the music. No fast edits and cuts, but only these stirred, hypnotic bodies, old and young," according to Anders. It follows first single, 'Never Stop Running feat. Jonny Pierce of The Drums' (Noisey), and is taken from his third album, Lost , out September 24th on In My Room. A more streamlined and intricate musical tapestry woven over sleepless nights in his Copenhagen studio, the album features a host of Anders' esteemed peers, personal influences and sprouting talent, Kazu Makino (Blonde Redhead), Jana Hunter (Lower Dens), Sune Rose Wagner (The Raveonettes), and Low, among others. Though the Trentemøller sound is left intact, as a whole, this album doesn't sound like anything he's ever produced before.
Trentemøller was handpicked to open for Depeche Mode this past June on a European tour, and has spent the summer headlining festival dates. His music "transcends genres with cinematic scope" says NME who describe his "captivating complexity" of his music and sound design. It's been a long and exciting way from his debut LP, The Last Resort, alongside projects like The Trentem øller Chronicles and Remixed/Reworked , to his 2010 record Into The Great Wide Yonder , which gained praise from Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, SPIN, XLR8R , and more.
After a groundbreaking performance at Coachella in 2011, which had Yahoo! calling him the "ultimate underdog, stunning all onlookers and becoming the toast of the fest...the biggest revelation of the entire weekend," Trentemøller embarked on a set of coast-to-coast US tours with his full live band, featuring guest appearances by expert theremin player Dorit Chrysler and Coco Sumner (I Blame Coco), concluding with the band's late night TV debut on Late Night with Carson Daly. Stay tuned for details on Trentemøller's return to the US to follow.

Ólafur Arnalds Returns to the US for Fall Tour

Ólafur Arnalds Returns to the US for Fall Tour
For Now I Am Winter LP Available Now
"One of the year's finest new albums." - Rolling Stone "If you crave morose, impressive beauty, it's here." - Pitchfork
"...stunning, perfect music."-  Bob Boilen, NPR All Songs Considered  Stream/Embed title track 'For Now I Am Winter (feat. Arnór Dan)'Watch the new video for 'This Place Was A Shelter'  Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds will return to the US for a fall tour in support of his latest release, For Now I Am Winter , available now on Mercury Classics. The album, featuring arrangements from Nico Muhly and vocals from Arnór Dan, has spurred performances ranging from one of NPR's "Top 15 Essential Moments" at SXSW (watch at Baeble ) to his unforgettable performance at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC this past spring bolstered by a full 28 piece orchestra (watch at NPR ), followed by a summer run of tour dates including an intimate performance at Hollywood Forever in Los Angeles.
Arnalds continues to steadily build a reputation as one of the world's most bright and able young composers, currently scoring the music for BBC's critically acclaimed #1 hit drama Broadchurch, which debuted in the US this past August on BBC America. The New York Times aptly wrote in the review of their program, "What Broadchurch has to offer is mood: a tasty icing of gloom and foreboding that leans heavily on the music of Ólafur Arnalds."  More recent television exposure for Arnalds includes an installment of The Colbert Report, as well as his song 'Old Skin' being featured on the hit TV show 'So You Think You Can Dance' in July, causing For Now I Am Winter to return to significant standing on the US iTunes Classical Chart. The album debuted at #1 on Billboard 's Classical Traditional Chart upon its release in the spring to great praise and critical accolades, including SPIN , who gave it a 7/10 saying, "Winter is easily his most straightforwardly accessible and mainstream-leaning effort to date. Which is impressive," FILTER , who added that the album, "demonstrates several key growths in Arnalds' development as a songwriter," and Interview Magazine , who said, "at 26, Icelandic multi-instrumentalist Ólafur Arnalds has already accomplished more than many musicians do in a lifetime."

Since the release of his 2007 debut, Eulogy for Evolution , the 26-year-old, has put his name to a variety of projects and collaborations ranging from Emma Watson to Peter Broderick to Nils Frahm. Since 2009 he has scored films and TV shows including Another Happy Day , the feature film Gimme Shelter (Starring Vanessa Hudgens), as well as having tracks featured on the soundtracks to Hollywood hits The Hunger Games and Looper .Purveying a neo-classical style with an array of influences which range from electronica to minimalism, Arnalds is an artist who draws from a variety of sources whilst maintaining his own unique sound.

TRAAMS Debut Album Grin Streaming At SPIN

TRAAMS Debut Album Grin Streaming At SPIN Grin Out September 24 On FatCat Records    "Stu Hopkins' flat, nasal honk is fetching enough from a melodic standpoint, yet it's those brief pockets where the guitars go silent amidst the steady drums that are just as hooky." - Pitchfork
"The album successfully captures the raw energy of TRAAMS' frenzied and sweaty live performances, as witnessed at The Great Escape, Tallin Music Week and gigging with Parquet Courts and Hookworms" - Contact Music
"a noisy, joyous racket" - This Is Fake DIY
Listen: TRAAMS GRIN via SPIN Magazine
UK-trio TRAAMS' debut full-length, Grin is set to be released September 24 on FatCat. SPIN is running a full stream of the album and said, "the upcoming LP collects 11 tracks of tunefully deranged, remarkably giddy guitar-pop that reimagines early Modest Mouse as a Krautrock-fluent crew." Earlier this summer NME premiered the new video for the album's lead single "Flowers" which was directed by James Burgess this summer, featuring TRAAMS being drenched in psychedelic goo. The video is available to post and share via YouTube.

Grin is the follow-up the recently released  Ladders EP and was recorded throughout 2012 and 2013 with producers Rory Atwell and MJ from Hookworms, the aptly-titled Grinis eleven tracks of pure distorted joy. The album successfully captures the raw energy of TRAAMS' frenzied and sweaty live performances, as witnessed supporting bands like Parquet Courts, Fildar, Hooded Fang, Dope Body and many others.
TRAAMS formed in summer 2011 in Chichester, West Sussex after meeting at a club night that vocalist and guitarist Stu Hopkins started as a reaction to the city's limited nightlife. The only options previously available to him and his friends were "boring clubs and bars which only played boring club music." At his club night Hopkins would mainly play records by Wire, New Order and Le Tigre, supplemented with mainstream pop and hip-hop. Similarly, there is a pop immediacy coexisting with an expansive, experimental element inside the music they make themselves. Incorporating the two sides are vital when writing a TRAAMS song, as Hopkins elaborates; "we really want to push both those areas as far as we can. We like seeing people dance and having fun but we also want to be noisy and aggressive. It's fun trying to strike a balance and seeing how far we can push it." The band claim Mclusky, Abe Vigoda, Pavement, Television, and Women as influences. Hopkins specifically cites Stephen Malkmus, Iggy Pop, and Tom Verlaine as songwriters he admires because they all make what he calls "skewed pop", a term that fits TRAAMS' sound snuggly.
The band's debut full-length, Grin, is the sound of a band finding true solace in music as a driving force. Bassist Leigh Padley has noted that the three members of the band felt compelled towards music as the only means to escape the mundanity of their hometown; "We had to start a band."he says, "It was all we had." As such, the album is bristling and vital - a sonic escape. The band has both a both a pop immediacy and a more expansive, experimental element and incorporating the two sides is essential when writing a TRAAMS song. Hopkins elaborates, "We really want to push both those areas as far as we can. We like seeing people dance and having fun but we also want to be noisy and aggressive."
That tenuous balance is what keeps TRAAMS' music endlessly exciting and keeps us coming back so often to dig into each new song with anticipations high.
