“ FREE YOUR MIND ”
in CUT COPY’s New Video, Directed by Christopher Hill
Free Your Mind To Be Released Nov. 5
via Loma Vista/Modular
Cut Copy’s “absolutely vital” current single “Free Your Mind” is a psychedelic
synth scream, and it now comes matched with an equally wild video.

In a few short years Cut Copy have grown from a bedroom project to an international festival staple that never fails to leave thousands enraptured. Each release and tour has invited fans internationally one step closer into their world full of ecstatic peaks broken up by quiet moments of melancholy and beauty. Their vision is clearer than ever before on their fourth album, Free Your Mind , due out November 5 on Loma Vista/Modular. The follow-up to the Grammy-nominated Zonoscope was recorded in the band’s hometown of Melbourne, Australia, and produced by Cut Copy frontman Dan Whitford. The band then decamped to upstate New York, where mixer Dave Fridmann(Tame Impala, MGMT, The Flaming Lips) added extra sonic wizardry. The result is a sound of a band that has been sending masses into abandon for years.

The record was strongly influenced by the two “Summers of Love,” which were birthed from burdening times – Vietnam and 10 years of Thatcher’s reign. Through unprecedented explosions of youth culture, communal elation and celebration, these eras provided a spirit that the band embraced – the need to tear down the walls of perception while creating a fantasy of what the next youth revolution might sound like. The title track would be a worthy soundtrack to that movement, with its propulsive bass line and soaring vocals urging you to “Free Your Mind” and make the world what you want it to be.

CYP2 announces anniversary show w/ Alice Glass, Andrew W.K
CHECK YO PONYTAIL 2 ANNOUNCES THREE YEAR ANNIVERSARY SHOW ON NOVEMBER 19TH
LINEUP INCLUDES ALICE GLASS, ANDREW W.K., CHUCK INGLISH, YOUTH CODE AND SPECIAL GUESTS
IHEARTCOMIX.COM RELAUNCHES WEBSITE
After three years of curating the most progressive and diverse concert experiences for audiences in Los Angeles and across the country, Check Yo Ponytail 2 is proud to announce it's three year anniversary which will be celebrated with a special night of performances. On November, 19th, Alice Glass (Crystal Castles) will perform a DJ set alongside other performances by Andrew W.K., Chuck Inglish, Youth Code, and special guests at Los Angeles' The Echoplex. Tickets go on sale Friday and are available here.
Before the three year anniversary show, CYP2 is also throwing two shows in October. The first is on October 18th and features Sage The Gemini, IAMSU, and FiNNaTicZ at The Echoplex. Then on October 29th, the original punk band Death, Tijuana Panthers, Obliterations, and Tony Molina will also perform at The Echoplex. Please scroll down for complete details and show posters.
Check Yo Ponytail 2's parent company IHEARTCOMIX has relaunched it's website in anticipation of the anniversary. The new site features a wide array of exclusive IHC content. Visit the site here to stay informed about upcoming performances, listen to exclusive mixtapes by performing artists, and watch exclusive video content of past performances.
Additionally, Check Yo Ponytail 2 will be creating a feature length documentary titled Get Amongst It: The Story of The First Check Yo Ponytail Tour which will document the trials and successes of the first national CYP tour which brought Spank Rock, Big Freedia, Picture Plane, and The Death Setto audiences across the country with the full Check Yo production. The experience serves as a case study of what it takes to launch a DIY tour in the current music industry landscape and the how this family of artists and promoters bonded through the hard times, ultimately achieving great success by the end of the tour. While not specifically about the tour, an informative mini-doc about the first two years of Check Yo can be viewed via The Hollywood Reporter here. CYP2 needs help to create the film and will be launching a Kickstarter campaign on November 1st which will include rare prizes from Check Yo friends such as a bondage set created by Picture Plane and a trademark fedora from A-Trak. Please do what you can to support this initiative whether it be through a donation or sharing the information with others.
Check Yo and IHEARTCOMIX founder, Franki Chan, reflects on the past three years and why he has worked with his team and the artists to bring these unique experiences to life:
"Check Yo Ponytail 2 was born in Oct of 2010. It's been a crazy ride since my partner, Danny Johnson, and I brought back this event series. What started as just an idea has blossomed into a full fledged brand and multi-media experiment. CYP2 has become the home for both emerging and established artists that want to cut their chops and make a splash onto the scene. In the 3 years we've been around such artists as the Wavves, Skrillex, Trash Talk, Grimes, Danny Brown, A-Trak, Salem and Andrew W.K. have graced our stage.
It hasn't been only about the artists tho, it's been about what Check Yo represents. We're here to put a spotlight on the best in new music, of all kinds. Whether it's a great show, a tour, our video series, the exclusive CYP2 Mixtapes or even the upcoming CYP Movie, we are striving to build a brand that represents and is a home for this generation of artists." - Franki Chan
About Check Yo Ponytail 2:
Check Yo Ponytail 2 is an open-genre, open-format party held monthly at the Echoplex in Los Angeles. The event has become known for highlighting some of today's top performers, with a few tried and true legacy acts in between. There's no doubt that Check Yo Ponytail 2 has played an integral part in the evolution of the modern music scene, supporting music that challenges the way we think about and enjoy culture in the day to day.
In the past, many of today's progressive artists including Justice, Matt & Kim, Boys Noize, and countless others made their Los Angeles debuts at a Check Yo Ponytail 2 event. CYP2 has since expanded beyond its home at the Echoplex through a series of specially branded events that include parties at SXSW, stage takeovers at Electric Forest, and the CYP Tour, a mobile version of the show that takes the full Check Yo production on the road. The story behind the first CYP Tour, which featured Spank Rock, Big Freedia, The Death Set, Pictureplane, and Franki Chan, has since become the focus of a feature length documentary titled, Get Amongst It , currently slated for a 2014 release.
While the lineups remain an integral part of the show going experience, it's the extended Check Yo Ponytail universe that make the parties "MORE THAN A SHOW" complete with live visuals, original flyer artwork, collaborative mixtapes, professional photo and video coverage, and online social media interactions that create an experience like no other.Upcoming Check Yo Ponytail 2 shows:

Neon Gold and Columbia Records Boston based, synth-rock act Magic Man will join Sir Sly for two weeks this month for a handful of east coast dates (full list of dates below). The band, who recently joined Walk The Moon for a set of tour dates, will bring their vibrant live show to this year’s CMJ Festival in New York City next week. The band will perform to a sold-out audience at Bowery Ballroom on October 16 and make an appearance a the Neon Gold event on October 17. To watch some behind the scenes footage of Magic Man on the road check out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7YpXpBZ4Ag
Magic Man recently released their EP You Are Here which was produced by Alex Aldi (Passion Pit, Holy Ghost!) and includes previously released Magic Man demos “Paris,” Texas,” and “Nova Scotia” plus two additional new tracks “Every Day” and “Waves.”
Magic Man is the creation of childhood friends Alex Caplow (vocals) and Sam Vanderhoop Lee (guitars and keyboards) who, while spending a summer abroad trading labor for room and board on a series of French organic farms, flushed out the music that would comprise Magic Man’s 2010 self-released album Real Life Color. The album gradually made its way across the internet like a slow-burning wildfire until it caught the attention of music blogs including: Pigeons and Planes, All Things Go, and Pitchfork.
Shortly after the release of Real Life Color Caplow and Lee decided to take Magic Man on the road and that is when they added high school friend Daniel Radin on bass, college friend Justine Bowe on keyboard and Joey Sulkowski on drums. As the exuberance of Magic Man’s new live set began transforming the band's sound, Sam and Alex decided to retreat to the Providence, RI in 2012 to a flat they called the "Fox Den" to refine their material to the anthemic propulsion that defined the band's resulting Fox Den Demos, which comprises the backbone of the band's first proper studio effort, You Are Here.
