MINOR ALPS STREAM NEW ALBUM GET THERE

MINOR ALPS STREAM NEW ALBUM GET THEREON ROLLINGSTONE.COM
OUT OCTOBER 29TH ON BARSUK RECORDSPRE-ORDER NOW
ON TOUR THIS NOVEMBER
Minor Alps, the collaborative vision of Juliana Hatfield and Nada Surf's Matthew Caws, will release their debut album Get There on October 29th via Barsuk Records. The record is streaming in full one week early on RollingStone.com. The record has been praised as "gorgeous, perfect pop", by Alternative Press, earned points from Stereogum for its "intricate and ambitious and very lovely" compositions.
Stream Get There on RollingStone.com
"There are moments of raw power scattered throughout (particularly on the raw punk-pop attack of 'Mixed Feelings'), but the album is mostly reflective and intimate, as on lead single 'Buried Plans,' which finds Caws and Hatfield harmonizing over fragile electronics and unobtrusive acoustic guitars." - Rolling Stone
This November the pair will embark upon a string of tour dates in support of the release, kicking off in Seattle at the Barsuk Records 15th Anniversary Show. Upcoming tour dates and early praise for Minor Alps below.

Pre-Order Get There - barsuk.com/shop/bark139  Over the last two decades, both Caws and Hatfield have carved out long-lasting - and strikingly independent - careers within a dependably fickle music business, Caws with his now 20-year-old New York City group Nada Surf, and Hatfield with the Boston-reared Blake Babies, the Juliana Hatfield Three, Some Girls, as well as a number of releases under her own name.
Hatfield and Caws not only share lead vocals and co-writing credit on each of the eleven songs that comprise Get There; aside from some drumming and programming by Parker Kindred (Jeff Buckley, Antony and the Johnsons) and Chris Egan (Solange, Computer Magic), the pair plays every instrument and conjures every sound - from primitive electronic dub pulse ('Buried Plans')-- to straight-up rock hook ('I Don't Know What To Do With My Hands') to stripped-down electric guitar punch ('Mixed Feelings') to eerie trance-allure ('Radio Static') to hypnotic guitar drone ('Waiting For You').   http://www.facebook.com/minoralps For Bio and Photos visit BigHassle.com/publicity/minor-alps

Sleepy Sun Shares New Track "The Lane"

Sleepy Sun Shares "The Lane" Stream,On Tour w/ City and Colour + New Headlining Dates
"...Sleepy Sun conjures the darkly foreboding side of garage psych…" -- Stereogum

"...a shape-shifting mess of psych-garage slime." -- SPIN After releasing their new 7" last week via Dine Alone Records, San Francisco's Sleepy Sun has now shared the release's second track, "The Lane." The melodic, psych-tinged song accompanies the heavier, darker "11:32" to complete a two-track release that captures the diversity of the quintet's sound and experimental nature of their songwriting. You can stream "The Lane" where it premiered with The Bay Bridged or via Soundcloud, and feel free to post & share!
The result of six years, three LPs, and countless tours worth of exploration and growth, Sleepy Sun's new 7" represents an evolved version of the band: one that has torn down walls and built up confidence. It acts as a teaser to their upcoming fourth LP, which will be released via Dine Alone Records early next year.
Having already toured with acts like Arctic Monkeys and the Black Angels, Sleepy Sun is currently on the road with City and Colour, and just announced a string of headlining dates. See below for a full list of live shows, and stay tuned for more information on the upcoming LP!

  About COUM Transmissions:
COUM Transmissions were a performance art collective who operated in the United Kingdom from 1969 through to 1976. Influenced by the Dada and Fluxus art movements, COUM were openly confrontational and subversive, challenging aspects of conventional British society through mail art and public performances. Founded in Hull, Yorkshire in 1969 by Genesis P-Orridge, and later John Shapiro, after a brief stint with the Exploding Galaxy commune.  P-Orridge and Shapiro started the Ho-Ho Funhouse which rallied other members into the COUM Transmissions collective fold.  COUM Transmissions would later include signature members who would together found the pioneering industrial band Throbbing Gristle in 1976.

Wire Announce DRILL: SEATTLE Festival

Wire Announce DRILL: SEATTLE Festival November West Coast Tour Dates AnnouncedChange Becomes Us Out Now

"History and transformation are, understandably, recurring themes in the new lyrics on Change Becomes Us, and it's a treat to have this missing link in the Wire story repaired" - Pitchfork"This is the best Wire album of this century." - Classic Rock Magazine"They continue to exercise more craft in their work than newbies a
third of their age." - Alternative Press

Listen: "Love Bends" via Stereogum Listen: "Doubles & Trebles" via Pitchfork

Wire has announced a fall West Coast tour and plans to bring their DRILL festival to Seattle. The three-day fest will take place November 21-23 at venues throughout Seattle including Barboza, the Crocodile, and Neumo's. DRILL: SEATTLE will performances by Helmet, Chastity BeltVestals,Earth and more. The festival will also include a performance from the PinkFlag Guitar Orchestra in which other artists, including Helmet's Page Hamilton, will join Wire on stage for a rendition of "Pink Flag." All show information is listed below.

Wire's Colin Newman says, "In their nearly 40 years of existence Wire have never been a band to keep still or rest on their laurels. Although sometimes, wrongly, defined within certain narrow musical genres Wire's oeuvre has always ranged across a wide range of styles and influences whilst the membership, individually and collectively have always had good relationships, both working & personal with artists across a number of fields. So it is perhaps not surprising that in 2013 Wire launched the first of a series of Festivals entitled DRILL in London in March 2013. The concept is simple, it's an unpretentious city festival featuring artists from across all genres actively curated by Wire with a lot of input from local, informed media partners (in the case of London, The Quietus; in the case of Seattle, KEXP)  The concerts take place in small venues with great sound systems. There are no big ticket acts playing for over inflated fees. Wire go for the best in upcoming local talent combined with friends who just want to be part of it."

Wire is touring in support of Change Becomes Us which is out now on pinkflag. In spring 2012, Wire's plan had been to convene at Rockfield Studios in Wales to review the rudimentary blueprints of songs that had never made it beyond a few live performances in 1979 and 1980 - a time when the band-members were in creative overdrive yet the band itself was disintegrating. The aim wasn't simply to resuscitate and record old songs; in fact, many of them hadn't become proper songs in the first place, existing only as basic ideas or undeveloped parts. Rather, the objective was to approach that unrealized work as an oblique strategy, a potential springboard for Wire's contemporary, forward-looking processes - a possible point of departure for new compositions.

This took place with Wire firing on all cylinders, as a four-piece studio entity again, the core line-up of Newman, Graham Lewis and Robert Grey now enhanced by guitarist Matthew Simms. Simms had played a key role in helping the band to cultivate and shape its new sonic landscape throughout the preceding year's live work. Out of the exploratory Rockfield session and subsequent, extensive development and production at Newman's Swim Studio, the ostensible source material became, in the classic Wire tradition, something quite other than what it may have once been - or what it might have become if it had been pursued in 1980.

Newman's songwriting and production on Change Becomes Us reimagines the past in ways that ultimately break any substantive connection with it, making entirely new pieces - and these songs themselves enact Wire's restless drive to become other, often thriving on a fundamental tension between opposing sonic characteristics. With its stop-start, soft-hard, quiet-loud structure, "Adore Your Island" veers between what Newman describes as "prog and unhinged punk rock," never quite resolving itself; the drama of "Attractive Space" hinges on a progressive splitting of the song's personality, between its calm, expansive, anthemic orientation and an increasing sense of intensity and claustrophobia.

Change Becomes Us encapsulates the paradoxical essence of Wire's creativity. The tendency of these new songs to refuse a single, settled identity is emblematic of the band's ever-evolving aesthetic - one that's always hinged on sustained tensions and oppositions: between the familiar and the unfamiliar, the comfortable and the unsettling, the melodic and the brutal, the cerebral and the visceral, the smart and the moronic, the obvious and the inscrutable, the rational and the absurd. This intrinsic, core ambivalence generates the essential otherness that has characterized Wire's most memorable, distinctive work - from the epochal innovations of Chairs Missing and 154 to the electronic-pop deconstructions of A Bell Is A Cup to Send's postmodern-punk expressionism and the widescreen lyricism of Red Barked TreeChange Becomes Us is an undeniable part of that illustrious lineage. Definitely more than just a good idea at the time. - Wilson Neate (Author of Read & Burn: A Book About Wire)

Swearin' share music video from new LP Surfing Strange

SWEARIN' SHARE VIDEO FOR "DUST IN THE GOLD SACK"
NEW LP, SURFING STRANGE, OUT 11/4 VIA WICHITA
TOURING WITH WAXAHATCHEE THIS WINTER

WATCH THE "DUST IN THE GOLD SACK" VIDEO VIA DIY HERE
Swearin' are pleased to a music video from their new record for the song "Dust in the Gold Sack", via This Is Fake DIY.  Surfing Strange, the band's sophomore record, will be released in the UK via Wichita Recordings and in the US via Salinas Records on 11/4.  Swearin' will be taking their increasingly legendary and riotous live show across the Atlantic for the first time this October when they head out in support of Waxahatchee across Europe.  Swearin' will also hit the road in the US on a Winter tour with Waxahatchee. All tour dates below.
ABOUT SWEARIN'
Swearin' operates and shines like a well-oiled, pragmatic machine. Their complimentary personalities, solid work-ethic, and similar backgrounds in DIY punk, have helped them thrive. Formed in 2011 in Brooklyn, Allison Crutchfield (guitar) and Kyle Gilbride (guitar) had been making demos for nearly a year before inviting Keith Spencer (bass) into the equation. The trio eventually added longtime friend and Philadelphia resident Jeff Bolt on drums, releasing their demo EP, What a Dump, shortly thereafter.

The demo received instant praise from Brooklyn's indie punk scene and beyond. It combined the sounds of Gilbride and Crutchfield's prior bands (Big Soda and P.S. Eliot, respectively) while stretching into new territories of fuzzed guitars and compounded song structures.

In 2012, Swearin' released their debut self-titled LP on Salinas Records. On that album their dynamic and sound fully started to emerge and flourish and they received much critical acclaim, including a 7.8 from Pitchfork who said “it's the kind of record that reminds you of why you were drawn to indie rock in the first place”, and Stereogum who described it as “compact, tightly constructed, smart, explosive, and very catchy.” The album caught the ear of all at Wichita Recordings in London who will give the record it's first official release outside of North America in October.

During July and August 2013, Swearin' holed up in Hazel House in their new hometown of Philadelphia and, with Kyle once again at the controls, they set about recording their sophomore album. That record has been christened Surfing Strange and it sees the band build upon the foundations laid with their debut to create a record with a more rich and varied sound. Hot on the heels of the European release of the debut, Surfing Strange will be released by Wichita Recordings (outside of North America) in November.

On Surfing Strange the band often slows things down to a grungier, Breeders-like pace (“Parts of Speech”, “Watered Down”) and include more stripped-down moments (“Melanoma”, “Loretta's Flowers”.) One song (“Mermaid”) includes spoken word from an original piece of writing by Keith, whilst on “Glare of the Sun” they introduce keys for the first time, as the song slides from part to part in a style that recalls Olivia Tremor Control  (or even The Beatles?!)

It's a generally moodier record than its predecessor but the indie-rock growl and energy that propelled their debut are never far away, with songs like “Unwanted Place”, “Young” and first single, “Dust In The Gold Sack” guaranteed to keep fans of that sound grinning from ear to ear.

TEXAS: New Single and Video "Dry Your Eyes"

NEW SINGLE: “DRY YOUR EYES FEATURING RICHARD HAWLEYWATCH AND EMBED VIDEO:   ‘THE CONVERSATON’ ALBUM GOES TOP FIVE & GOLD! NATIONWIDE UK TOURIn their 25th anniversary year TEXAS have returned to the top of the album and airplay charts across Europe, while their new album ‘The Conversation’ (which entered the UK charts at Number Four in May) has won serious acclaim for its songwriting and musical depth and rapidly secured Gold status in the UK, adding to the band’s career sales of over 30 million and counting.
Now Texas release the latest single from the album, the stunning ‘Dry Your Eyes’, which will be released through [PIAS] Recordings on November 18th.
Co-written by Sharleen Spiteri and Johnny McElhone with Richard Hawley at his Sheffield studio, ‘Dry Your Eyes’ is a Texas at their anthemic best, with its flavours of early Blondie, rock’n’roll and an unforgettable sing-a-long chorus. The story of the song is described by frontwoman Sharleen Spiteri as “one woman talking to another who’s going through a really shitty time. Absolutely a through-and-through woman’s song.”
The accompanying video continues the great Texas tradition of eye-catching storylines and unusual cameos with This Is England’s Vicky McLure and Lip Services’ Ruta Gedmintas taking the starring roles alongside Sharleen in a pub scene. Vicky joins the likes of Alan Rickman, Jean Reno and Peter Mullan as Texas video guest stars. Sharleen goes on to explain “It was a pleasure working with Vicky and Ruta as they're such great actresses and good friends of mine so the whole day was easy and enjoyable. Tto be honest when you're in a pub having a drink with your mates it feels more like a night out than a day at work. I thought we were genius at acting drunk!! “.
Texas played to over 50,000 people at the BBC’s Hyde Park Prom recently where they were joined on-stage by Richard Hawley for a very special rendition of ‘Dry Your Eyes’ which can be seen at Ahead of the single release Texas embark on a nationwide tour in eight years commencing in York on November 9thand running through the rest of November.
After two acclaimed warm up shows at Glasgow’s King Tuts and London’s 100 Club (‘Timeless Texas thunder back’ announced London's Evening Standard in a 4* review), the band played two major festival performances at T in the Park and Latitude, where they headlined the BBC Radio 6 Music Stage.
Texas’s eighth album, ‘The Conversation’ is their first release in eight years and is the latest in a career that has seen the band sell over 30 million albums worldwide with a succession of multi-platinum albums in ‘White on Blonde’, ‘The Hush’ and ‘Greatest Hits’. This return in 2013 clearly redefines and confidently re-introduces the band afresh with all tracks written and produced by singer/guitarist Sharleen Spiteri and bassist Johnny McElhone and featuring collaborations with singer-songwriter Richard Hawley and Bernard Butler.
‘The Conversation’ is an album splitting its seams with the joy of a long-proven pop force creating a collection of songs rich enough in melody and emotion to deserve filing beside the best of the band’s other million-selling hits. The album was recorded in Glasgow, London and at Richard Hawley’s studio in Sheffield, where seven key tracks formed a formidable backbone for an album. ‘The Conversation’ is a perfect marriage of Hawley’s 50s rock’n’roll frills and the timeless Texas pop magnetism. Combine those two elements and its cast-iron melodies all-round.

Pitchfork recently premiered the epic tune "1777" is available to listen/share on  Pitchfork  orSoundcloudRolling Stone also recently debuted the album's title track, featuring guest vocals by label (and tour) mate Chelsea Wolfe. Listen to "Memorial" HERERussian Circles previously shared the first track from the album via Pitchfork. Listen to the song "Deficit" HERE. (Soundcloud link HERE.) Check out cover art and track listing below.

Russian Circles are currently on the road in the EU and UK with Chelsea Wolfe. Both bands are playing full headlining sets, with Wolfe joining Russian Circles to sing the album title track every night. Russian Circles will also tour the US in early 2014. Please see complete dates below.

Perhaps the most immediately apparent characteristic of the fifth Russian Circles album, Memorial is its wide range of emotion. Vacillating from somber-yet-soaring melodies on one track to pummeling metal heft on the next, Memorial sounds like an album with split personalities.

Where one song showcases guitarist Mike Sullivan, drummer Dave Turncrantz and bassist/keyboardist Brian Cook's mastery of lush melancholic melody, the next exhibits their most abrasive underground metal leaning sound, with washed-out 16th-note riffs and crushing rhythms. The band's penchant for endless hooks remains a constant, but Memorial embodies their most dramatic ranges in tone.

"We've always tried to balance our metal-influenced sounds with more nuanced, pretty, orchestral elements," Cook says. "But this time, it's far more polarized in that the heavy parts are much more blown out and exaggerated while the pretty moments are far more restrained, delicate, and atmospheric." In the two years since Russian Circles released their landmark fourth album Empros, the Chicago trio toured worldwide nearly incessantly, encountering many heavy acts whose music seemed needlessly complicated. "We set out to make a straightforward, intense, heavy record," Cook explains. "We subconsciously gravitated toward darker and more somber sounds. We wanted to get away from the overtly flashy."

In search of such a streamlined sound, the trio focused on each individual song having its own emotional and musical characteristics. As such, Memorial almost feels like stages of grief. That notion might be aided by 1) the album's clever structuring, in which it ends in the same place as it starts, and 2) special guest vocalist Chelsea Wolfe lending her hauntingly somber vocals to the album closing title track.

Memorial was recorded at the Electrical Audio studio in Chicago with the band's longtime producer Brandon Curtis of The Secret Machines & Interpol who also helmed the band's two previous albums,Empros and Geneva.

Memorial will be available on LP, CD and download via Sargent House on October 29th, 2013.

NEIL YOUNG TO RELEASE LIVE AT THE CELLAR DOOR ON

NEIL YOUNG TO RELEASE LIVE AT THE CELLAR DOOR ONNOVEMBER 26TH ON REPRISE RECORDS
LIVE ALBUM COLLECTS PERFORMANCES FROM YOUNG'S SIX-SHOW STAND AT THE INTIMATE WASHINGTON D.C., VENUE IN 1970October 21, 2013 - (Burbank, CA.) -  Neil Young  will release  Live At The Cellar Door , the latest in his Archives Performance Series, on November 26th on Reprise Records. The album collects recordings made during Young's intimate six-show solo stand at The Cellar Door in Washington D.C. between November 30th and December 2nd, 1970, a few months after Reprise released his classic third solo album  After The Gold Rush  in August. Of the many unique gems found on  Live At The Cellar Door,  a rare solo version of "Cinnamon Girl" performed on piano rather than guitar is a particular treasure for Neil fans (the full band version appears on Young's 1969 second solo album Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere ).
The album, which features Young performing on acoustic guitar and piano, includes tracks that are interesting for several reasons, such as stunning live versions of songs that appeared on  After  The Gold Rush ("Tell Me Why," "Only Love Can Break Your Heart," "Birds," "Don't Let It Bring You Down" and the title track) and solo performances of the Buffalo Springfield songs "Expecting To Fly"(from their 1967 second album  Buffalo Springfield Again ), "I Am A Child" (from their third and final album  Last Time Around  and Young's 1977 Decade compilation), and "Flying On The Ground Is Wrong," from their 1966 self-titled debut.
In addition,  Live At The Cellar Door  features early, raw performances of songs that wouldn't appear until subsequent Young albums, including the rarity "Bad Fog Of Loneliness" (which appears on Live At Massey Hall '71 -  released in 2007-- but was previously unreleased until the studio band version was included on  Archives Vol. 1 1963-1972 ) and "Old Man" (released two years later on 1972's  Harvest  album). "Down By The River," also from  Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere , rounds out the spectacular set.
Live At The Cellar Door  was recorded by Henry Lewy and produced by Young.
As with Young's previous releases in the Archives series,  Live At The Cellar Door  will be released digitally, on CD, and on 180-gram vinyl (mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering and pressed at Pallas in Germany).
The track-listing for  Live At The Cellar Door  is as follows:
Side One:Tell Me WhyOnly Love Can Break Your HeartAfter The Gold RushExpecting To FlyBad Fog Of LonelinessOld ManBirdsSide Two:Don't Let It Bring You DownSee The Sky About To RainCinnamon GirlI Am A ChildDown By The RiverFlying On The Ground Is Wrong
