Mystic Braves Premiere Video for "Desert Island" on BULLETT
Mystic Braves Premiere Video for "Desert Island" on BULLETTAnnounce Echo Residency and National Spring TourSophomore LP Desert Island out Apr. 29

It's no wonder why The Zombies asked Mystic Braves to open their L.A. show last year. While the hometown favorites were barely even a blip on their respective parents' radars when Odessey and Oracle was released, the psych-steeped five-piece sounds like they stepped straight out of the '60s. And not in an obvious, someone's-been-studying-their Nuggets-comps-until-the-grooves-give-out sort of way, either. We're talking a richer, fuller plot of references (garage-borne greats like The Electric Prunes, The Chocolate Watchband and The Music Machine) that filter the band's hook-centric purple haze through robust organ rolls, runaway guitar riffs, heat-stroked horns and a rhythm section that can only be described as "restless".
Especially on Desert Island, a scrappy extension of the self-titled debut Mystic Braves dropped in 2013. From the ravenous opening remarks of "Bright Blue Day Haze"—the first song frontman Julian Ducatenzeiler wrote for the outfit, making it their mission statement in more ways than one—right on through the wild-eyed melodies of "Earthshake," the filler-free effort is more aggressive than their last album yet about as immediately accessible as vapor-trailed rock music gets these days. It's sunshine in a bottle, really, which can only be expected from a group with such deep California roots."The west coast has it all really—beaches, mountains, deserts, cities, suburbs," explains Ducatenzeiler, who's rounded out by drummer Cameron Gartung, guitarist Shane Stotsenberg, bassist Tony Malacara and organist/tambourinist Ignacio Gonzalez. "Our sound is merely a byproduct of the environments we grew up in and the experiences we had. We're not trying to deliberately channel '60s music, either; we simply write sensible pop songs from the heart with psychedelic textures and tones. It just comes natural to us."

David J reveals Francophile obsession with his 1st single
David J divulges his quirky inspiration for his new single You Suit a Rainy Day from his upcoming albumAn Eclipse of Ships: "Indeed, it was at a tribute concert at the Hollywood Bowl for the late great libertine and chanteur, that the single You Suit A Rainy Day was inspired. The pretty young bohemian girl who accompanied me to that event was certainly a "Francophile of the first order" and when the performance was all over, she could not help but dance across the famous stage in her stars and stripes high wedge shoes, pirouetting under the famous clamshell arch.
The song's lyric bubbled up a few days later as I was awaiting her arrival at my apartment as a wonderful gloomy storm brewed over the Hollywood Hills. At the heart of most of these songs there is a woman and I consider myself privileged and blessed to have known these various manifestations of the great eternal muse. Some for only moments and others for many years. This is an album that has been percolating for a long time and during it's execution, I believe that I have finally managed to access my inner Serge Gainsbourg! In a 2013 article on street harassment by the women of Seattle alt-weeklyThe Stranger, Tacocat frontwoman and Stranger Music Editor Emily Nokes wrote, "We don't need any more advice on how to avoid or ignore street harassment. If anything, what we deserve are a few good revenge tactics." Tacocat's "Hey Girl," from their new album NVM, serves up its own righteous dose of pop-punk vengeance. This morning, Stereogumpremiered Eric J. Olson and James Smith's colorful stop-motion video for the song, which was hand-animated in keeping with the band's DIY-or-die spirit. Taking aim at cat-calling construction workers, drunk hobos, business dads and undergrads, Nokes sarcastically sings, "Oh it helps my self esteem, ‘cause you finally noticed me."

Born under a cloudless Californian sky and bled into leftover tape, Wunder Wunder is the rolling amnesia of a Los Angeles summer, the deathless West Coast, and drinking in the dreams of its young. The debut creation of Melbourne producers Aaron Shanahan and Benjamin Plant, Everything Infinite is an album that captures lost moments spent in the pair's adopted city of LA and a unique exploration of their unspent ideas.
"Los Angeles is a dreamy place, almost surreal," notes Shanahan, of the duo's drastic decision to uproot nearly 8000 miles from their native Australia. "It has continuous unspoilt skies and pastel sunsets, a backdrop of palm trees, and interesting people and houses stemming from many backgrounds in a wash of variety."
Viewed through the windows on all three sides of the duo's lofty home studio, endless sunshine and idyllic views of the surrounding Hollywood hills and a silhouetted horizon offered the perfect setting for Everything Infinite's recordings to take place. "We even have visits from our little hummingbird friends which makes the space a very vibing area to create," they say, "instead of being locked in a dungeon like studio". Much like Wunder Wunder's own summit observatory onto the world, the pair's relocation offered a unique perspective from which to explore new musical styles and artistic methods by shifting from the 'indietronica' sound of their previous Miami Horror project and focusing their attention towards skilled song writing and content.
"You're a product of your surroundings," admits Shanahan, whose new dwellings offered the pair a chance to indulge in some quality time with Mother Nature. During the recording process meditation, hikes in the hills and listening to audio books all provided clarity in mind paving the way for Everything Infinite's distinct themes; nostalgia, beauty, and universal connection. "Wunder Wunder feels like being reborn - we have learnt a lot during the making of this record," they say.
Recalling the innocence of moments when you were a kid ('Summers Day'), growing up as a teenager and spending a special time with that certain someone ('Midnight Hours'), the vapour of childhood memories ('Coastline') or dreaming of a place where everything will be alright ('Dreams of the Fall'), each song touches on the ease of romanticising situations and having sentimental moments. "It almost reminds me of how shows like 'The Wonder Years' or the movie 'Stand By Me' reflect on special times. It's important to remember the positive things in life, especially when the world can seem grim," explains Shanahan.
Whether you put it down to the West Coast's elevated vitamin D levels or a more positive outlook, it's clear that Wunder Wunder are karma chameleons blending seamlessly into their new habitat. 'Midnight Hours' offers a smooth dose of cool Cliff Martinez night-time retro nostalgia, 'Trouble in Utopia' sounds like an Animal Collective and Temples exchanging their own campfire stories, and the album's big pop moment comes via 'Hail The Madmen's funky Prince-like groove. Melding swaying, dappled guitars, rasping layers of harmony, dreamy delays and a warm tangle of vintage synthesizers and drums, Everything Infinite is a brilliantly executed concoction of mellow 70s lo-fi chords, the sonic and progressive sounds of 60s psychedelia, a distillation of sun-bleached yearning and the undulating 90s pop sounds of Shanahan's teenage years; each track its own kaleidoscopic motif that tessellates and reflects light like a shower of sun-kissed sequins.
"Wunder Wunder is a project of positivity, dreaming, exploration and connection," they clarify. "We want people to feel something uplifting from what we do. Whether it's a backdrop for happy memories on a road trip or another nostalgic occasion it'd be great to be part of those moments in people's lives."

Legendary Seattle Punk’s The Funhouse - In ‘Razing The Bar’

“As with all things DIY, integrity is essential. The explicit endorsement of the Funhouse staff was a golden seal. And a sensible one—this is a self-made movie about a self-made venue that hosted self-made bands. More than that, it documents Seattle’s headlong rush into evolution and its equally powerful desire to maintain a legacy.”

Gardens & Villa at The Fonda on May 8

Gardens & Villa just revealed that they will be joining Tycho for a string of US shows this spring, kicking off in Burlington, VT, on April 15th. The band, who released their sophomore offering Dunes last month on Secretly Canadian, is currently in Europe for a run of dates supporting Broken Bells before returning to the states for the Tycho dates. You can take a look at their full tour schedule below.
Following the release of Dunes last month, the California-based five-piece shared a new video for "Colony Glen," which Stereogum praised as "plasticine new wave pastures with falsetto lingering in it's wake." Watch The Video For "Colony Glen" On VEVO Here
Biography / Over the past three years, the Santa Barbarian comrades that make up Gardens & Villa – Chris Lynch, Adam Rasmussen, Levi Hayden, Shane McKillop, and Dusty Ineman – went from playing local bills to being veterans of the road. After releasing their self-titled debut on Secretly Canadian in 2011, they pushed their van's odometer into the six-digit range, zigzagging North America and Europe with over 350 shows in just 2 years. Gardens & Villa emerged a wiser, crystallized version of themselves.
Those experiences planted the seeds for the band's new batch of cohesive, personal, and beautifully layered pop songs -- homegrown in the confines of the band's beachside practice space. When it came time to record, they searched out acclaimed producer Tim Goldsworthy (Cut Copy, DFA Records, LCD Soundsystem, Hercules & Love Affair) and these five surf-town natives found themselves traveling to the unlikely locale of Benton Harbor, MI (pop. 10,040) in January. There they landed at the Key Club, located deep in the recesses of a converted locksmith's building where they would record what would become their second full-length, Dunes.
Gardens & Villa burrowed into the Key Club's retro-themed studio and living space, only leaving the facility five times over the next month. The disconnect between Santa Barbara's familiar sunny beaches and Michigan's snow-covered lakeshore led to the group's creative unraveling in the studio. The band lost track of the hours, days, and weeks as blinking analog machines captured the intense journey. In the process, Dunes was poured through Sly Stone's original custom-built Flickinger recording console.
With just a week left before deadline, Gardens & Villa sought a brief refuge from the studio where their progress had stalled. They went on a trip, traversing winding roads past frozen tundra and barren trees and into the wilderness of the nearby state park's tall dunes. The group climbed to the top and collapsed into a combination of sand and snow. Simultaneously reminded of home as well as their distance from it, their jaws dropped as they turned to see Lake Michigan's majestic and surreal expanse stretching toward the horizon.
Supported by Goldsworthy's guidance, the band went back to the studio and ultimately emerged with a record beaming with dystopian energy, subconscious lyrics, and uncompromising sincerity. Lynch has seamlessly integrated his bansuri flutes and Rasmussen has fleshed out his looming synths alongside shades of '80s cult films soundscapes that lurk just underneath the songs in an unnoticeable-yet-omnipresent fashion. Like the awe-inspiring clarity of sitting atop Michigan's dunes, the band's forthcoming record shares a clear and evocative vision of where Gardens & Villa's members have traveled, what they've learned, and what lies ahead.

David Lynch's "The Air Is On Fire" to be released as ltd. edition LP
DAVID LYNCH'S
THE AIR IS ON FIRE
TO BE RELEASED AS LIMITED EDITION LP
VIA SACRED BONES FOR RECORD STORE DAY
HEAR AN INTERVIEW WITH COLLABORATOR
DEAN HURLEY REGARDING THE ALBUM
In early 2007, David Lynch was the subject of a retrospective art exhibition at Paris’ Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain. Evocatively titled The Air is on Fire, it was notable for being the first major comprehensive exhibition of the avant-garde director’s paintings, photographs and drawings. It wasn’t strictly a visual affair; throughout the entire gallery’s two floors and four rooms, a pervasive, interactive soundscape escorted viewers through the work. That soundscape, which shares the name of the exhibition, was composed by Lynch and his collaborator, Dean Hurley, and it’s being issued for the first time on vinyl by Sacred Bones Records as a special Record Store Day release.
Over the two sides of vinyl totaling more than 41 minutes, the soundscape taps into the full history of experimental, minimal and electronic music, while blurring the line between music and sound design and exploring some of the same depths the director plumbed on the soundtrack to Eraserhead. This is challenging music, but it’s injected with the same approachability that characterizes much of Lynch’s work. He lulls you in with his warm synthesizer strains and hits you with glitchy, hissing percussion and groaning, industrial menace. Like the man behind Winkie’s, you suspect something threatening is lurking within The Air Is On Fire, but you can’t resist it. When David Lynch beckons you into the void, you follow.
This will be a one-time pressing of 2,000 copies exclusively for Record Store Day 2014
