LISTEN: "North Street" - https://soundcloud.com/drag-city/death-north-st/
Five years after the second life of Death was started with the release of their revelatory 1976 album, For the Whole World to SeeDeath III slams the door on the vault with a powerful set of songs that bring equal amounts of rock and ethereal soul-searching, in high-fidelity, rich bottomed, studio-grade sound. Alongside songs from 1975, 1976 and 1980,Death III contains two songs from 1992, as the Hackney brothers reconvened nearly a decade after they'd stopped playing together. Death III serves as a companion piece of sorts to the A Band Called Death documentary, tracking the band's movement from spiritual young rockers to older and wiser, bruised-but-undefeated brothers, in pure musical terms.  David Hackney's visual representation of Death was a triangle, where "spiritual," "mental" and "physical" formed the three angles. With this in mind, For the Whole World to See is clearly the physical corner, with its undeniable proto-punk power; Spiritual-Mental-Physicalexplores the mental axis, with Death working through some of their influences, including The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Who and even ELO, in their practice space. Death III is the spiritual end of the portrait, bookended by the dreamlike rock visions of David Hackney that created and propelled the band called Death.  Death III starts with David inside a deep 1975 guitar improvisation, rising up through atmospheres and prehistoric guitar murk to coalesce in jagged monster-riff-dom. The whole exercise recalls Funkadelic's great Eddie Hazel while reflecting the pure essence of David Hackney's guitar style. This jump-cuts perfectly five years into the future, with the funky staccato of "North Street," which finds the band's punkish approach at it's most aggressive. From there, the album moves back and forth from 1975 and '76 (including two songs recorded at Groovesville in Detroit with the other For the Whole World to See songs) to 1980, showing the band streamlining their frenetic core and maximizing the power. The lyrical focus of the songs "Open Road," "We Are Only People," and "Free" is more in the spirit/soul side of Death as heard on "Let the World Turn" and "Where Do We Go From Here???" - sensitive, searching, reflective. "We Are Only People" is an epic journey that begins with another Funkadelic-styled spoken-word moment, progressing through a spacious solo-guitar-with-harmonies section and into the inevitable rock conclusion. Dark hues are generated by the relentless and speedy "Restlessness" while remaining at a philosophical remove, and "Free" is a heavy duo piece with Bobby and David exploring the meaning of the word. But the album's climax is provided by a trio (once again, the triangle) of David songs, two of which hail from 1992. All three pieces together form a release of the soul of Death from it's dark origins, building optimism upon the harsh realities they'd experienced in their lives, more relaxed without losing the spark and bite of those former times. The unaccompanied guitar instrumental "First Snowfall in Detroit," is David Hackney at his most soulful, which gives way to "We're Gonna Make It," first featured as an emotional climax to the documentary and no less powerful here. With these songs, Death III pays final tribute to David Hackney's thoroughly original voice and vision, now stilled, but captured forever as a part of the remarkable story of Death.

Glass Animals stream full EP, announce Brooklyn show

GLASS ANIMALS STREAM GOOEY EP OUT TODAY VIA HARVEST RECORDS
ANNOUNCE BROOKLYN SHOW  LISTEN: Glass Animals - Gooey EPhttps://soundcloud.com/glassanimals/sets/gooey
Glass Animals LIVEMay 14th - Baby's All Right - Brooklyn, NY

Today, Glass Animals are proud to release their Gooey EP. The EP features a collaboration with Tei Shi, remixes by Kingdom and Gilligan Watson, and a "Gooey" re-work featuring Chester Watson.   As one of the first signings to Paul Epworth's Wolf Tone label in the UK, Glass Animals have polished their pulsing indie electronica-by-way-of-RnB under the production of the band's vocalist and writer Dave Bayley, and Epworth's guiding hand.
Having left the confines of their creative hub in the woodlands of Oxfordshire (referred to as The Shed), the band took up residence at Epworth's London studio in the Autumn of 2013. It's a move that has instantly developed their sound, merging their love of analogue with digital, and transforming their psych-fuzz into something a whole lot wilder.
Armed with a full LP, ZABA to come in June, and a seriously impressive live set-up, Glass Animals are primed for a very exciting twelve months and beyond.
Glass Animals are: Dave Bayley, Drew MacFarlane, Edmund Irwin-Singer, Joe Seaward.
Praise for Glass Animals  "The music seeps into your bloodstream, a sinuous and ultra contagious flow of good vibes that could be likened to a euphoric trip to a technicolor Neverland." - Consequence of Sound    "Glass Animals and their funky, synth-heavy rock will be the next big thing" - Impose Magazine
"The band plays pulsing electronica with dashes of R&B and their new track "Gooey" is a mesmerizingly sexy track that got a great response." - KCRW

THE FAINT DOOM ABUSE Out Today On SQE Music

THE FAINT DOOM ABUSE Out Today On SQE MusicSpring Tour Dates Announced      "Doom Abuse' is pure synth-pop mania" - NME   Listen: "Dress Code" via Stereogum or SoundCloudListen: "Salt My Doom" via Consequence Of Sound or SoundCloud          Watch: "Help In The Head" video via Pitchfork or YouTube
Omaha-based band THE FAINT released their sixth album, DOOM ABUSE today via SQE Music. DOOM ABUSE, THE FAINT's first release since 2008's Fasciinatiion, can be ordered on LPand CD in the SQE online store. Additionally the album is available digitally on iTunes
DOOM ABUSE has received critical acclaim with  Filter Magazine  saying "DOOM ABUSE is a cathartic slap in the face from a band that sounds completely revitalized after its multi-year slumber" and NME calling the album "pure synth-pop mania." The Omaha Reader raved "the album has classic Faint dance moments ("Evil Voices," "Loss of Head") that will get the crowd jumping every time. Welcome back, boys."
THE FAINT will embark on a national headlining tour that will kick off on April 24th in Des Moines at Wooly's and continue onto major markets including Atlanta, Philadelphia, Boston, New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, Portland, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles. The tour will conclude on June 13th in the band's hometown of Omaha at the Sokol Auditorium. To understand DOOM ABUSE and its raw, visceral aesthetic you have to understand its birth story. You have to understand that after touring for a year on their 2008 self-released album Fasciinatiion, an album that took several years to write and produce, THE FAINT ceased to exist. The musicians were burned out, uninspired and could no longer find the most important element of any musical creation: fun. They went their separate ways, pursued other sorts of music in other projects, sometimes together and sometimes separately, and learned new ways of channeling sound. They remembered what drove their songwriting in the first place. Then, in the spring of 2013, THE FAINT existed again. Anxious to make new music the band recorded a 4-song white label 12" they referred to as "Preversions." That music, primal and punk rock in its approach became the unplanned blueprint for DOOM ABUSE.
The band booked time with longtime collaborator Mike Mogis to mix the album before even really having songs written. There was no specific concept, just a sense of wanting to capture moments of real passion and invigorated glee. A lot of the record was created live in the room, with first takes and first ideas taking precedent. The entire album took only about three months to create. It reflects specific experiences from a specific time and sounds unlike anything else. From boisterous, static-laced opener "Help In The Head" to propulsive aggressor "Evil Voices" to ambient and layered closer "Damage Control," the album explores different variations of THE FAINT as a live rock band. Their history as an innovative dance act lingers, years of obsession with crafting a new style for the dance floor seeping into each song, but here and now, the band wanted to make songs that capture the sheer power and collaborative nature of their onstage performances. The songs differ and balance each other out but all share the same space and overarching tone, another pattern seen after the fact.
The birth of DOOM ABUSE in many ways, is in parallel with a rebirth of the band itself. THE FAINT, started in Omaha in the mid-'90s, have always created against the grain, disinterested in making anything except what their own inspiration drives them to make. Each album since their 1998 debut Media has shifted and evolved that desire. Some albums, like 1999's Blank-Wave Arcade, came from urgent, short recording processes while others, like 2004's Wet From Birth, were more carefully constructed. The musicians themselves are the constant, together embracing a style that is truly unlike every other band out there. While DOOM ABUSE harkens back to Blank-Wave Arcade'simmediacy in some ways, it opens a new door. Inside is exactly where THE FAINT want to be now.

King Dude details upcoming "Fear" LP + shares new music video

KING DUDE DETAILS FEAR LP
OUT MAY 6TH ON NOT JUST RELIGIOUS MUSIC
SHARES NEW VIDEO VIA  SELF-TITLED
U.S. TOUR WITH GHOST STARTS THIS MONTH                                                                                                                                                     Pulling together the biblical sound and isolation of the bygone days of revelation with an atmosphere filled with hope and salvation, King Dude has woven his own unique brand of purely American music. He brandishes many varied influences in his songwriting... Everything from British Folk, Americana, Country and Blues can be heard in his songs. Even Heavy Metal tends to slither it's way into the King Dude canon. The resulting songs are much more of a modern day hymn then your average pop song.
Reverent as it is prophetic and stark, King Dude has previously shared his spiritual visions with releases on Dais, Avant!, Bathetic, Clan Destine, and Ván records. Now he has started his own record label called Not Just Religious Music to spread not only his own gospel, but those of his fellow musicians around the world.

King Dude's latest album, entitled Fear, was produced by the legendary Bill Rieflin (Ministry, Swans, Pigface, etc). Below are some of TJ's thoughts on Fear and what it really means to terrify people through song.

When I set out to write the follow up record to my last record Burning Daylight I hadn't quite realized what I was going to do for it's themes and overall concept. Although I had one crystal clear intention - To make the most horrifying music I could. So with that in mind I began to write what would later become Fear.

Now writing a record that is horrifying to me is one thing, writing a record that is horrifying to everyone in the whole world is some other thing altogether. So I really had to begin to think about what inner fear every single person possibly could have. Of course the most common fear everyone on Earth shares would be the fear of dying. But that seemed too obvious to write a record called "Fear" and have it be about the fear of death. There are already way too many songs written about being afraid to die (or not afraid to die for that matter) in fact I have written a few of them myself.

So I chose the next most obvious fear I felt everyone shared. And that is the fear felt during early adolescence. As we move away from our childhood towards our adulthood we (in a sense) watch helplessly from the confides of our own slowly deforming, prepubescent bodies as the "child-mind" is ripped away only (or buried deeply into our subconscious) only to be replaced by the cruel, maniacal, sex crazed "adult-mind" also known as the ultimate product of a civilized adult world reality.

The two other themes that I chose for this record are static in nature, or how shall I say, more tangible. And those two themes are "mirrors" and "telephones". Mirror reflections are often associated in the subconscious with our relationship to our physical bodies but they serve another hidden terrifying purpose which is to remind us that we are in fact separated from the reality conjured in our minds. Another sort of reflection we cast of ourselves is that one of which we cast upon those around us and at times very far away from us through communication. Advanced communication came about recently with the advent of the telephone and the concept of "separation of the mind and body" reveals itself to our subconscious every time we "reach out and touch someone" The mirrored image plays an integral role in the concept of Fear, a concept that will be revealed to the listener when the record is finally in their hands.

The music of King Dude begs the soul to lift itself up from the darkness of ignorance, towards the ever shining glorious Light that exists outside of all of us yet that which we are eternally connected to and at once connects everyone on Earth. You can stream a brand new music video for the title track "Fear" below, and see King Dude's upcoming tour dates with Ghost as well.

GARY NUMAN: new video + London, Sonisphere and Alt-Fest live

Gary Numan
“Making electronic music that's inspired generations of musicians, and it doesn't look like he's letting up any time soon” Noisey
·                     New ‘I Am Dust’  video ·                     Live at Sonisphere festival - 4th July·                     Live at Alt-Fest - 16th August·                     Headline live show at Hammersmith Eventim Apollo - 28th November
Gary Numan is pleased to announce a main stage appearance at this year’s Sonisphere festival on 4th July, Alt-Fest on 16th August and an exclusive London show for 2014 at The Hammersmith Eventim Apollo, on 28th November.
In anticipation of the shows, Gary has unveiled a brand new video for ‘I Am Dust’ (taken from his lauded recent album Splinter (Songs From A Broken Mind))’, which marked a deserved return to the top-rank of worldwide musical stardom. The 'I Am Dust' video was made using a Tachyons+ video glitch synth effected live via HI-8 camera and a CRT television captured by a modern digital camera. No computer post production was used in the making of this video.Tachyons+ is a video glitch synth designing team that modifies vintage video gear to create new ways of crafting visual productions for video artists around the world. It wasdirected by Gary Numan fans Logan Owlbeemoth with effects by Omebi Velouria can be viewed here.‘I Am Dust’s grinding, apocalyptic, electro gives way to a gigantic chorus, all of which is sonically and musically streets ahead, highlighting Numan’s renewed mojo for fresh, exciting songs, and breaking new sonic ground. The Sonisphere, Alt-Fest and Hammersmith dates follow in the wake of Gary’s fantastic recent run of success, which culminated in critical acclaim and a return to the UK Top 20 albums chart after 30 years for ‘Splinter (Songs From A Broken Mind)’, plus a rapturous response to his sold-out national headline tour and South By Southwest dates.
This triumphant live return to London’s Hammersmith Apollo also has special historical significance for Gary,  as he released his first (and now classic) full-length live album 'The Touring Principle 1979' (which was recorded at a sold out Hammersmith Apollo) 35 years ago this year.
2014 also marks the 35th anniversary of the release of 'The Pleasure Principle', plus the Hammersmith  gig will be Gary’s biggest London headline show in over 20 years, so fans can expect a celebratory show, which promises to reach an all time incendiary and inspired high.
This summer will no doubt see Gary’s star continue to rise, alongside his widespread recognition as a hugely-influential pioneer and a vital, current artist enjoying a new creative peak.

On 7th April, Swedish/UK/US all girl quartet The Franklys will be releasing their debut single ‘Puppet’ b/w‘Imaginarium’ on Electric Woods Records which is a twisted freakbeat flavoured 7” fiery rocket to the eardrums.
Mastered by Brian Lucey (Arctic Monkeys ‘AM’), the single is a freewheeling slab of garage-rock and 60s inspired Rhythm and Blues. ‘Puppet’ charges into view with an unforgiving swagger combining raucous hooks, spiraling guitar lines and a tight and taught rhythm section that nods towards the British Invasion bands of the early 60s. Entwined into this are moments that recall the infectious grit of Ramones, hints of The Flaming Sideburns and The Hellacopters rawk ‘n roll and the throttling beat of Babes in Toyland. Jennifer Ahlkvist's vocals yelp and scream with anger as she exclaims “you never wanted me, you kicked me to the ground and left me there to die” as the warm surf guitar riffs cruise in amongst handclaps, foot tappingly incessant drums and a deep, bubbling bass line; all this combines to make them a bristling modern day counterpart to any great Nuggets acts.
‘Imaginarium’ has darkly gothic undertones that lurch menacingly around your peripheries as the words, “part of me is longing to be dead” echo morbidly wrapped around the neo-psychedelic twists and as the friction builds; vocals career upwards whilst a storm of bass, drums and crying guitar riffs rage in the background.
Their debut UK show was to a sold out audience at the legendary 100 Club which has seen them follow up with tours of the US and Sweden following their debut EP release last year. Having worked on other projects; NicolePinto also wrote, directed and starred in her short horror film ‘Camp Crystal’ starring Adrein Grenier (Entourage) and Adam Green (Moldy Peaches); the film premiered in NYC in 2001 which then went on to win praise across various film festivals. She was also in successful US acts Crème Blush, Hot Sugar and co-wrote the hit ‘Come Play With Me’ with Armand Van Helden.
