MADNESS // One Step Beyond 35th Anniversary Edition

MADNESS
‘One Step Beyond 35th Anniversary Edition’
CD/DVD released 13th October on Salvo & Sound Vision
[image error]
·         Original hit album digitally remastered from ¼ inch tapes. Includes unreleased rehearsal tracks with two previously unheard songs – ‘Sunshine Voice’ & ‘Lost My Head’ - promotional videos, TOTP and Old Grey Whistle Test performances & BBC ‘Young Guns’ Documentary
When Top Of The Pops rocketed Suggs, Chas, Barzo, Woody, Chrissy, Thommo and Bedders into our living rooms with ‘The Prince’ in 1979, Madness’ rise to stardom was swift. Spearheading the 2Tone Ska revival, along with The Specials, the band adopted an authentic attitude and philosophy that propelled them quickly into the charts. Fast-forward thirty five years and countless hits later, Madness are rightly considered one of the most important acts that Britain has ever produced.
Salvo Sound and Vision are pleased to announce ‘Madness: One Step Beyond 35th Anniversary Edition’, released 13th October on CD/DVD.
On its initial release, ‘One Step Beyond…’ coined the unmistakable “heavy, heavy monster sound” and catapulted the band from poky rehearsal rooms and sweaty gigs to the hearts of the nation. In truth it delivered so much more: sophisticated pop, vaudevillian vamps, English eccentrics and desert moonstomps.
The album stayed in the charts for nearly a year, cementing its position as one of the most seminal albums of the period. Featuring such classic singles as ‘The Prince’, ‘One Step Beyond’, ‘My Girl’ and ‘Night Boat To Cairo’, it blended lively ska, thoughtful pop, rockabilly roots, vaudeville music hall and bouncy-castle carnival vibes: “That Nutty Sound” was born.
Included in this special reissue are songs from a recently unearthed 1979 rehearsal cassette which shows Madness’ early songcraft, musicianship and giddy energy. Although not quite uptown Jamaica, you can clearly hear a band following their own anarchic compass from the off. Two previously unheard songs, ‘Sunshine Voice’ and ‘Lost My Head’, appear for the first time anywhere in any form and are certain to catch the interest of Madness fans the world over.
With incisive liner notes expertly written by journalist and Madness aficionado Stevie Chick, ‘Madness: One Step Beyond 35th Anniversary Edition’ also features promotional videos to ‘One Step Beyond’, ‘Bed And Breakfast Man’, ‘My Girl’ and ‘Night Boat To Cairo’, plus Top Of The Pops and Old Grey Whistle Test TV performances from 1979/80 and the 2000 BBC ‘Young Guns’ documentary. The 24 page colour booklet features band photos and memorabilia, and includes brand new interviews with producers Clive Langer & Alan Winstanley, plus three-word quotes from band members.
35 years on from its original release, ‘One Step Beyond…’ remains the rockingest rock-steady beat, the Nuttiest Sound Around.

Thurston Moore Announces "The Best Day" (10/21 on Matador)

THURSTON MOORE ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM AND RELEASES TITLE TRACK "THE BEST DAY"
THE BEST DAY OUT OCTOBER 21ST ON MATADOR RECORDSON TOUR THIS FALL
  Thurston Moore cover
The Best Day, Thurston Moore's first solo record since 2010's Demolished Thoughts, will be released on October 21, 2014 on Matador Records. Backed by James Sedwards of Nought (guitar), Deb Googe of My Bloody Valentine (bass) and Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth (drums), the album radiates with both his signature thrashing electric guitars as well as blissful 12-string acoustic ballads.

The Thurston Moore Band will be playing dates in Europe, UK, and North America, including Riot Fest in Chicago and Toronto as well as a West coast run with Sebadoh. See all tour dates below.
They recently played an impromptu show at the London's Café Oto. The UK's Uncut had this to say about the live performance of The Best Day, "The album - which is due out in October - is excellent, and these live versions are muscular and digressive. Great songs, and a sense that Moore has found fresh inspiration in N16 with his latest, formidable accomplices."
Thurston Moore has been at the forefront of the alternative rock scene since that particular sobriquet was first used to signify any music that challenged and defied the mainstream standard. He is the founder of Sonic Youth, the band that turned on an entire generation to the value of experimentation in rock n' roll. From its influence on a nascent Nirvana, to Sonic Youth's own Daydream Nation album being chosen by the US Library of Congress for historical preservation in the National Recording Registry in 2006, the band's importance in rock history is undeniable.
Moore records and performs in a cavalcade of disciplines ranging from free improvisation to acoustic composition to black/white metal/noise disruption. Alongside his various activities in the musical world, he is involved with publishing and poetry, and teaches writing annually at Naropa University, Boulder CO, a school founded by Allen Ginsberg and Anne Waldman in 1974.

The Rural Alberta Advantage's Mended With Gold out September

The Rural Alberta Advantage  Mended With Gold  out September 30 on Saddle Creek KEXP Premieres Mended With Gold's "On The Rocks"    "The Toronto-based trio, led by born-and-bred Albertan Nils Edenloff are full of nostalgic songs about hometowns and heartbreaks, marrying salt-of-the-earth acoustic rock to energetic rhythms and grand orchestral arrangements." - Pitchfork "The band shines in its own ability to blend pared-down composition with fast-paced percussion and lyrics that could only come from, well, rural Alberta." - Filter  Stream: "On The Rocks" via KEXP or  Soundcloud     The Rural Alberta Advantage have unveiled another song from their upcoming third album  Mended With Gold .  KEXP premiered "On The Rocks" and said, "the band continue to create powerful folk-pop songs with deep emotional resonance."  Consequence Of Sound  added, "The track permeates a sense of imperfection, from the shaky rumble of drums to the grimy, lo-fi sheen ad the not-quite-harmonious melodies. But within all that is some of the most pure and visceral displays of emotion, represented brilliantly by Nils Edenloff's manic howl of a croon. "On The Rocks" is also streaming and available to share via SoundCloud. Mended With Gold, will be released on September 30 on Saddle Creek. The twelve-track album was recorded at Toronto's Candle Recording with the band's long-time live engineer Matt Lederman (Hayden!!!Besnard Lakes) alongside co-producer Leon Taheny (Owen PallettAustraF*cked Up). The album is available for pre-order now on CD & LP in  Saddle Creek Online Store  and digitally via Itunes. A limited Indie Exclusive version of the album will be released on clear vinyl with metallic gold sputter and will be available at local, independent record stores and through the Saddle Creek Online Store.  A full list of tour dates can be found below.
"The song itself is an amalgamation of a lot of different memories and emotions," says frontman Nils Edenloff, "But the heart of it centers around the acceptance of an ending relationship. I'm personally really happy with the chorus of the song: Our Hearts they were strong / Never made a sound / Our love was on the rocks / The day we let it out / Nothing going wrong / Nothing going down. There is a resignation to the chorus, but not in a hurtful way; it's more an honest acceptance."
In 2006 singer-songwriter Nils Edenloff, percussionist Paul Banwatt, and multi-instrumentalist Amy Cole came together to release their debut self-titled EP as The Rural Alberta Advantage. The ensuing years have brought two full-length albums (2008's  Hometowns  and 2011's  Departing ), widespread critical praise (SPINThe New York TimesRolling StonePitchforkNPR, among others), two Juno Awardnominations (Best New Group, Video of the Year), the Polaris Music Prize Long List, and a hard earned reputation as one of the most impressive live bands you'll ever see. It was through all of this that The RAA's latest album, Mended With Gold, took shape.

TOPS share new song via Vogue + LP due 9/2

TOPS SHARE "OUTSIDE" VIA VOGUE
PICTURE YOU STARING DUE 9/2 VIA ARBUTUS RECORDSCredit: Rebecca Storm STREAM: "Outside" - https://soundcloud.com/arbutus-records/tops-outside
Building upon on previous singles "Change of Heart" and "Way To Be Loved", TOPS are now sharing "Outside" from their forthcoming sophomore LP Picture You Staring. Speaking on the song, the band says, "Outside came about when we were messing around playing this Phil Lynott demo 'One Wish'. The vibe stuck, but the song turned into something else completely. It gets into the feelings that guilt causes, the loneliness of uncertainty, being lead to feel weak and angry, and finding the strength to do what you want to do anyways. I remember this song really coming together last fall and it matching the season really well, at least for me."
The Montreal-based four-piece will release Picture You Staring on September 2nd on Vinyl, CD, Digital and Cassette via Arbutus. To hear more of the album, click on the links below for "Change of Heart" and "Way To Be Loved". After recently performing with Blood Orange, the band's next live show will be their record release party on August 29th in Montreal followed by a Pop Montreal play on September 19th.  Tour Dates:
August 29th - Montreal, QC @ La Vitrola (Album release show)September 19th - Montreal, QC @ Sala Rossa (Pop Montreal)  Previously:

Roddy Frame's (Aztec Camera) first album in 8 years

Roddy Frame (Aztec Camera) New Album, Seven Dials, Out NOW via AED Records

“This, for any lover of the cracked ballad, the pop hit, the smart word or the perfectly chosen chord, is essential.” – The Line of Best Fit
It is with great delight and pride to announce that Roddy Frame has released his first recordings in eight years, Seven Dials.

The album was recorded at West Heath Studios, the home of AED Records, a label formed by Edwyn Collins in 2011. The relationship between Roddy and Edwyn reaches back to the records their respective bands, Aztec Camera an Orange Juice, released on the legendary Postcard Records of Scotland label in the early 1980’s.

Seven Dials was recorded in sessions that spanned across 2013. Co-produced by Roddy himself and Sebastian Lewsley, the ten tracks feature drummer Adrian Meehan and keyboards by long-time Roddy cohort Mark Edwards, with all other instruments played by Roddy himself.

Following three prestigious sell-out shows in the UK to celebrate the thirty-year anniversary of his first album with Aztec Camera, Roddy will internationally tour later this year.
