She Keeps Bees reveal "Radiance", on tour now
SHE KEEPS BEES REVEAL "RADIANCE"
ON TOUR NOW!EIGHT HOUSES OUT SEPT 16TH ON FUTURE GODS RECORDS

"It's glow comes like warm reds and oranges breaking the haze...She Keeps Bees manage deceptively gentle emotional forces." -Consequence of Sound
LISTEN TO "RADIANCE" (please post and share) Today She Keeps Bees have revealed a new single from their new album, Eight Houses, out September 16th on Future Gods Records. "Radiance" is another beautifully crafted, powerful song with gentle instrumentation indicative of the stunning timelessness that She Keeps Bees have created with Eight Houses.
Eight Houses finds She Keeps Bees working with an outside producer, Nicolas Vernhes (Deerhunter, The War On Drugs, Dirty Projectors, etc.) for the first time and enlisting guest musicians including Sharon Van Etten and Adam Schatz.
She Keeps Bees are on tour now, their highly affecting live show is not to be missed! All dates below.
EARLY PRAISE FOR EIGHT HOUSES:"Low-key but powerful, trailing wisps of desolation, menace, and regret. Larrabee's moan is a ripple of unease in stale air, occupied only by some keyboard and a drum track." -Pitchfork
"Larrabee's soothing alto murmurs against minimal organ parts and a sparse drumbeat, and the less-is-more effect is powerful." -Stereogum
ABOUT SHE KEEPS BEES:
Considering how controlled the chaos is on Eight Houses-a record that's ruptured by riffs and rattled by rhythms without leaping straight off the rails-it's tough to imagine a time when Jessica Larrabee and Andy LaPlant didn't finish each other's sentences, creatively and personally. But that's how She Keeps Bees began: with LaPlant bashing a borrowed kit (including a garbage-picked floor tom) atop a step-ladder and Larrabee directing the dark solo recordings she began soon after moving from Philadelphia to Brooklyn. "It was trial by fire," says LaPlant of their early rehearsals. "Luckily what she wanted out of me at the time wasn't complicated." "We grew together slowly," adds Larrabee, "like a tree. It felt powerful with him behind me. Nothing really clicked until I met Andy." That dynamic became more pronounced with each passing record, peaking with the self-produced songs of Nests and Dig On, the latter of which expanded the pair's minimal sound with bass parts and synths. Now joined by an outside producer (Rare Book Room's Nicolas Vernhes) and guest musicians including Sharon Van Etten and Adam Schatz, She Keeps Bees revels in the raw power of subtlety, silence and space, coloring Larrabee's compositions with lean piano lines, hazy horns and warm organ rolls. "There was definitely a batch of more aggressive songs that got cut from the record," explains LaPlant. "Having a producer was nice in that respect; if things were starting to sound too similar and we didn't hear it, Nicolas wasn't shy about letting us know. We wanted to step outside our comfort zone stylistically, which really gives Jess' songwriting a chance to shine." It also pushes her dense lyrics to the fore, exploring a wide range of universal emotions (desire, obsession, change) and looking for answers to questions our teachers never addressed, from the blood-splattered war hero status Custer earned during his "last stand" to the forced assimilation of Native Americans on the open roads She Keeps Bees toured for the first time in 2012. "The reservations left a heartache in me," she explains, "and swarms of questions. I began reading stories. The more I read the history, the more I realized this was a universal story of 'progress': the Western world surrounding indigenous people, taking their natural resources, destroying their sense of self." And yet there's still a light at the end of the tumultuous tunnel Eight Houses carves over the course of 10 punchy, confident songs. It kicks in as "Raven" collides with its choruses, meeting the human condition head on. "Let the toxic mimics roll off us all," says Larrabee. "Let the power of your truest self rest in your heart. Draw strength from below your navel-a place where there is no fear. Honor the gravity of the emotion but do not be consumed."

Saccenti explains, “The song is a pure emotional plea, a future primitive call to arms. To create a moment of light in these dark times was our hope. Eschewing a heavy narrative we let the images of the Earth, filmed in wide screen and mixed with a tense unnatural presence, wash over the viewer while Nika communicates her powerful message.” Nika describes the video making process, “Working with Tim was effortless. His creative ambition to turn the abstract into a tangible feel is a rare treasure.” Watch the video for “Dangerous Days,” premiered by Vogue.com here .

Nika is the 25-year-old behind Zola Jesus’ creative incarnations as sole singer and songwriter. Influenced by her time in Iceland, Vermont, and British Columbia, TAIGA was written on Vashon Island, WA and conjures all these places while creating a sonic space of its own that each listener can travel to, explore, hide in, and celebrate. Nika tracked and mixed the album in Los Angeles with co-producer Dean Hurley (David Lynch, Danger Mouse, Sparklehorse).
At once challenging and accessible, TAIGA is a transition for Zola Jesus. Undeniably branded with what Nika terms a “piercing ambition,” the album is best described by the artist herself: “The music on the record is massive, with big brass and beats, crystal clear vocals…It’s the most accessible music I’ve ever made, but also the most earnest and passionate. I gave everything for this record, more than ever before.”

Lia Ices Reveals Striking Video For "Higher!" Additional Tour Dates!
LIA ICES REVEALS VIDEO FOR "HIGHER"
NEW HEADLINING DATES CONFIRMED INCLUDING MERCURY LOUNGE IN NYC ON SEPTEMBER 17
Set To Support Phantogram In September & October
NEW ALBUM ICES OUT SEPTEMBER 16 VIA JAGJAGUWAR
Lia Ices is excited to reveal the video for her newest single 'Higher." The video premiered via Paper who described it saying "('Higher') features kaleidoscopic visions of the artist and her brother as they explore Jamaica." They went on to describe her upcoming album as "a wide variety of instrumentals, experimentation and people together; it takes the listener from north of New York City to San Francisco and Jamaica with a constant sense of levity, expressed both in the lyrics and lofty sounds." Paper spoke to Lia about her album and the single - read their full conversation here.Watch "Higher" (embed code below):
Lia Ices - "Higher" (Official Video)
"Higher" was shot in Jamaica by Storm Saulter with additional camera work by Bryan Ling and Andrew Mariani. Ices herself directed the video. Lia says, "The making of this album continuously took us out of our familiar world. During our time in jamaica we found a levity and openness we tapped into - an energy that is at the core of the song, and of this whole album. We met the Jamaican film maker Storm Saulter and spent a couple days cruising/exploring with him and making this video. We just had fun. When you can be limitless with your experiences, give into other cultures, sounds, and people, the more you actually feel like yourself."Stereogum has called "Higher" an "experimental pop number with lots of empty space but plenty going on...this (is a) weird, wonderful song" andConsequence of Sound labeled it "an ethereal earworm" and continued "the pop number's worth a spot on your 'Songs of Summer' playlist." Ices previously announced she will be supporting Phantogram on their fall tour of the U.S. She has now also confirmed headlining dates in New York (9/17), Los Angeles (9/23) and San Francisco (9/24). Her tour with Phantogram follows these dates. All shows are listed below. Lia Ices will be releasing her new album Ices on September 16 via Jagjaguwar. The album was co-produced by Benny Sagittarius (the newly formed production team of Lia and her brother Eliot) and Clams Casino. You can watch an album trailer for Ices here.
Previous to "Higher" Lia Ices released a video for the single "Thousand Eyes" which you can watch here. Pretty Much Amazing reviewed the single saying, "'Thousand Eyes' (is an) effortless and lovely weirdo pop tailor-made for summer afternoons and evenings, figuring Lia's otherworldly, Kate Bush-ian vocals front and center over a bubbly guitar line and soaring synth drones."

Honeyblood Release Liz Phair Cover For Rookie Theme Song
HONEYBLOOD RELEASE COVER OF LIZ PHAIR'S "MESMERIZING" FOR ROOKIE
DEBUT ALBUM OUT NOW
HONEYBLOODShona McVicar and Stina Tweeddale aka Honeyblood have just debuted this month's Rookie theme song, their take on Liz Phair's "Mesmerizing," which was produced by former Hole and Smashing Pumpkins bassist Melissa Auf der Maur. You can listen to the track and read an exclusive interview with the duo below.
Listen to "Mesmerizing" via Rookie
Honeyblood released their self-titled debut album last month, receiving praise from critics at Pitchfork, Stereogum, BUST and more. Of the album, the New York Times wrote "Honeyblood is a bracing two piece...that specializes in a refreshing contrast of jangle and derision. They pair the melancholy guitars of early '90s shoe gaze with surf-rock tempo - the result is energetic, peppy hostility."

"Honeyblood is a bracing two piece...that specializes in a refreshing contrast of jangle and derision. They pair the melancholy guitars of early '90s shoe gaze with surf-rock tempo - the result is energetic, peppy hostility." New York Times
"Rolling drums providing the backbone for toothache-inducing guitars and one hell of a central hook." - Pitchfork
"A blend of blustery vocals and swirling guitars." Noisey
"The self-titled debut from the UK ladies Honeyblood shows off their propensity for making exceptionally well-crafted, indie-pop songs that are simultaneously sweet and sour." - BUST"...based in Glasgow but sounding like something from a California dream." - FADER "We fall for Honeyblood, hard." Time Out
"Hazy, wistful sound." - ELLE
"There is so much to adore...There are guitars, which gleam with iridescent beauty. There are vocals, which bubble over with an immediately ingratiating spunk. Most of all, there are lyrics, which pull no punches even amidst all the sweetness." - Stereogum

Sydney, Australia’s five-piece rock band The Preatures released EP Is This How You Feel? on Harvest Records in October 2013. The title song, “a mid-tempo, feel-good, groove-based confection that explodes into one of the year’s best choruses,” was named Best New Track by Pitchfork, and the band was declared a CMJ Artist To Watch by Fuse, Paste, and KCRW.
Their 2014 SXSW performances, including the festival-edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live, did exactly what SXSW performances are supposed to do: get people psyched on new bands. Critic Jim DeRogatis was converted:
Fronted by the captivating Izzy Manfredi, who exudes a leather-jacketed, retro/New Wave cool a la Debbie Harry or Chrissie Hynde, the band incorporates percolating electronic rhythms with strains of Motown soul and garage-rock guitar… their self-confidence, energy, and maturity onstage belie their relative inexperience, and it’s difficult not to get swept away.

With most of their new material already written and road-tested, The Preatures decided to stay put in Austin and record their first album at Public Hi-Fi with producer Jim Eno of Spoon. The band settled in for three-and-a-half weeks of Tecate and breakfast taco-fueled studio magic. Between festival dates at Coachella and Bonnaroo, guitarist Jack Moffitt finished production and mixed the album on the road and at the band’s Doldrums Studio in Sydney. Blue Planet Eyes, their debut full-length album, is out September 30th. New single “Somebody’s Talking” delivers on the promise of their EP – it’s exhilarating, joyful pop with an undeniable rock swagger.
