Jenny Lewis Scores First Ever Top 10 Debut With New Solo Album
JENNY LEWIS SCORES FIRST EVER TOP 10 DEBUT WITH NEW SOLO ALBUM THE VOYAGER
THE VOYAGER IS ALSO NO. 1 VINYL ALBUM AND NO. 2 ALTERNATIVE ALBUM IN THE U.S.
August 14th, 2014 - Burbank, CA - The Voyager - the new solo album from Jenny Lewis - has bowed at No. 9 on Billboard's Top 200 Album chart, selling nearly 31,000 copies in its first two weeks. This is the celebrated California singer-songwriter's first Top 10 album and highest chart debut ever, including the albums she released with her former band Rilo Kiley and with her side project Jenny and Johnny with Johnathan Rice.
In addition, The Voyager debuted at No. 1 on the Vinyl Albums chart and No. 2 on the Alternative Albums chart. The album is currently available for purchase on cassette viaBurger Recordshere.
What critics have said about The Voyager:
"A rewarding journey." - Rolling Stone
"Jenny Lewis has done her best work as a solo artist, and The Voyager continues the trend." - Chicago Tribune
"The whole album is full of little moments of wonder. The most polished, intelligent and damn near perfect record of not just her career, but of the decade so far. Buy this immediately." - Press Play
"Arguably her strongest work to date." - TIME
"Her best solo effort to date" - American Songwriter
Over the weekend, Lewis performed her current single "Just One Of The Guys" on CBS Saturday Morning (watch here) and also played a sold-out show at The Wiltern in Los Angeles. She will appear on Conan on August 18th.
The Voyager is Lewis's most deeply personal album to date, documenting her struggle to cope following the death of her estranged father in 2010 and the subsequent break-up of Rilo Kiley. The Voyager's rootsy, golden glow comes courtesy of Lewis and the artists she chose to produce various tracks, including Ryan Adams (who, alongside Mike Viola, produced all but three of the tracks), Beck, and Lewis' longtime collaborator Johnathan Rice. The Voyager finds the always relatable songwriter at her sharp-witted best, singing about her recent experiences with honesty and incisiveness.

She Keeps Bees share "Owl" and Fall tour dates
SHE KEEPS BEES SHARE "OWL"
ON TOUR THIS FALL EIGHT HOUSES OUT SEPT 16TH ON FUTURE GODS RECORDS
LISTEN TO "OWL"(please post and share) Today She Keeps Bees have shared "Owl", the latest single from their new album, Eight Houses, out September 16th on Future Gods Records. "Owl" is another haunting and powerful song with minimal and gentle instrumentation indicative of the beautiful timelessness that She Keeps Bees have created with Eight Houses.
Eight Houses finds She Keeps Bees working with an outside producer, Nicolas Vernhes (Deerhunter, The War On Drugs, Dirty Projectors, etc.) for the first time and enlisting guest musicians including Sharon Van Etten and Adam Schatz.
She Keeps Bees are taking their highly affecting live show on the road this fall on a full US tour, all dates below.
EARLY PRAISE FOR EIGHT HOUSES:"Low-key but powerful, trailing wisps of desolation, menace, and regret. Larrabee's moan is a ripple of unease in stale air, occupied only by some keyboard and a drum track." -Pitchfork
"Larrabee's soothing alto murmurs against minimal organ parts and a sparse drumbeat, and the less-is-more effect is powerful." -Stereogum
ABOUT SHE KEEPS BEES:Considering how controlled the chaos is on Eight Houses-a record that's ruptured by riffs and rattled by rhythms without leaping straight off the rails-it's tough to imagine a time when Jessica Larrabee and Andy LaPlant didn't finish each other's sentences, creatively and personally. But that's how She Keeps Bees began: with LaPlant bashing a borrowed kit (including a garbage-picked floor tom) atop a step-ladder and Larrabee directing the dark solo recordings she began soon after moving from Philadelphia to Brooklyn. "It was trial by fire," says LaPlant of their early rehearsals. "Luckily what she wanted out of me at the time wasn't complicated." "We grew together slowly," adds Larrabee, "like a tree. It felt powerful with him behind me. Nothing really clicked until I met Andy." That dynamic became more pronounced with each passing record, peaking with the self-produced songs of Nests and Dig On, the latter of which expanded the pair's minimal sound with bass parts and synths. Now joined by an outside producer (Rare Book Room's Nicolas Vernhes) and guest musicians including Sharon Van Etten and Adam Schatz, She Keeps Bees revels in the raw power of subtlety, silence and space, coloring Larrabee's compositions with lean piano lines, hazy horns and warm organ rolls. "There was definitely a batch of more aggressive songs that got cut from the record," explains LaPlant. "Having a producer was nice in that respect; if things were starting to sound too similar and we didn't hear it, Nicolas wasn't shy about letting us know. We wanted to step outside our comfort zone stylistically, which really gives Jess' songwriting a chance to shine." It also pushes her dense lyrics to the fore, exploring a wide range of universal emotions (desire, obsession, change) and looking for answers to questions our teachers never addressed, from the blood-splattered war hero status Custer earned during his "last stand" to the forced assimilation of Native Americans on the open roads She Keeps Bees toured for the first time in 2012. "The reservations left a heartache in me," she explains, "and swarms of questions. I began reading stories. The more I read the history, the more I realized this was a universal story of 'progress': the Western world surrounding indigenous people, taking their natural resources, destroying their sense of self." And yet there's still a light at the end of the tumultuous tunnel Eight Houses carves over the course of 10 punchy, confident songs. It kicks in as "Raven" collides with its choruses, meeting the human condition head on. "Let the toxic mimics roll off us all," says Larrabee. "Let the power of your truest self rest in your heart. Draw strength from below your navel-a place where there is no fear. Honor the gravity of the emotion but do not be consumed."

Riot Fest Announces After-Fest Show Spree!
Riot Fest & Carnival Announces After-Fest Show Spree!Rise Against, C0ck Sparrer, Bad Religion, The Get Up Kids, The Hold Steady, Blue Meanies, Billy Bragg, Primus, Hot Snakes, Television, Mineral, Luceroand Andrew W.K. Headline Shows Across ChicagoMore Fest Announcements Coming Soon
Organizers of Chicago's Riot Fest & Carnival have just announced a slew of club shows to take place each night after the festival at Humboldt Park takes its nightly hiatus. Festival headliners and their compatriots will hit stages at Aragon Ballroom, Double Door, Concord Music Hall, Cobra Lounge, City Winery, Empty Bottle, Bottom Lounge and Beauty Bar; there’s even a nightly official Riot Fest meet-up/hangout at Emporium Arcade's Wicker Park and newly opened Logan Square locations. Tickets will be gone in a heartbeat as some of the shows feature intimate performances by true heavyweights, the larger venues are stacked with talent as well. In other news, the mighty NY legends Television join Riot Fest, performing the fest and an after-show. For more information visit http://riotfest.org/chicago-official-shows/Tickets are on sale now – see links below.
Thursday night, Chicago punk stalwarts Rise Against will kick off the fest at the Aragon Ballroom – they are joined by their old friends the Lawrence Arms, Touche’ Amore and Radkey. Rise Against released The Black Market last month, it debuted at #3 on the Billboard Top 200.
Friday night will be a special treat for punk fans as Riot Fest alumns Bad Religion make a one-off appearance along with Anti-Flag at Double Door. Bad Religion will not be playing the festival, so don't miss this chance to see them in a small club!
When C*ck Sparrer hit Chicago to play Riot Fest in 2009, it was a revelation, with fans going absolutely nuts. The band is a force of nature – and will perform both the Fest and an after-show. They share the bill with fellow UK rabble rousers Stiff Little Fingers!
The Get Up Kids are one of the mid-west’s favorite bands – they reunite for both the Fest and a show at Bottom Lounge with So So Glos and Modern Baseball.
Seattle meets NY at the Double Door, when Mudhoney meets Thurston Moore.
Saturday will see Primus' first performance with Tool drummer, Danny Carey, filling in for Herb (Tim “Herb” Alexander) on drums. Herb is out for recovery from recent heart surgery, but he has left his throne in good hands and we're excited to see what Danny brings to the table for the performance at Concord Music Hall and at the festival on Sunday (9/14). Les Claypool explained, “When Tim “Herb the Ginseng Drummer” Alexander had a minor heart attack a few weeks back we were all startled. The mighty Tim “Herb” Alexander is a poly rhythmic Viking of extreme and unique talent so the one person that we thought could step into his shoes and do it justice is the one and only Mr. Danny Carey. He’s a dear old friend and we are extremely excited to have him aboard and I would wager we are equally if not more intrigued than most by what kind of sounds are going to come out of the three of us once we actually get in a room together and do more than just consume fancy booze.”
Fans will probably never have a chance to see the Hold Steady in a room the size of Cobra Lounge again – they’ll rock one of Chicago’s greatest small rooms as well as the festival. Death & Memphis open up.
Billy Bragg brings his political power-folk to City Winery in addition to his festival appearance.
Blue Meanies, Mineral, Lucero and Hot Snakes also headline after-shows, and Andrew W.K. will DJ at Beauty Bar.
You can view the full after-show listings below. There are more announcements coming soon – the awe-inspiring plethora of killer Riot Fest late shows will ensure fans get their second wind and see their favorite bands in club and concert settings across the city. Chicago has a mind-boggling array of wonderful venues – out of towners should prepare to caffeinate and enjoy what this amazing city has to offer.

From the crowded streets of Phnom Penh to the vast empty landscape of West Texas...we have cut through...burned through...and followed through to reach you...From the heat of the desert...to the heat of your city's sprawling squall...This transmission is here to transport and ruin you. It is the release of your mortal coil...Just let the rain wash it away from the mountains...down to the motherfucking sea...wash it away ...blow it all away and check this moment out.
On the upcoming European run …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead will be joined by Canada’s Your Favorite Enemies as well as Midnight Masses – a band featuring and formed by Autry Fulbright and Jason Reece of …And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead. Midnight Masses released their debut album Departures at the end of July and the fall run will be the band’s live European debut. You can check out the Midnight Masses video for “Broken Mirrors” (featuring Haley Dekle ofDirty Projectors) here: http://www.stereogum.com/1691678/midnight-masses-broken-mirror-video-stereogum-premiere/video/.
This fall European tour comes on the heels of an extremely successful Spring US tour that had …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead playing seminal album Source Tags & Codes in its entirety and the new album, IX is the follow up to the band’s critically acclaimed 2012 LP release Lost Songs .

"A sonic tornado of joyous electro-madness." --
Austin Chronicle
Austin, TX hyper-kinetic duo Zorch premiere their B-side/outtake of The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)" recorded for the Flaming Lips' upcoming tribute to that album, titled With A Little Help From My Fwends. Zorch's initial contribution of the album track "Good Morning, Good Morning" will be on the final release, but Lips frontman Wayne Coyne also later asked the band to record 2 additional songs. By the time the duo submitted this song, several other artists had also covered it. Some form of those recordings will make the final cut. With Coyne's blessing, Zorch's rendition of "Sgt. Pepper's..." is available to hear and share via SPIN HERE. (Direct Soundcloud HERE)
This track features guest vocals in which every syllable of the lyrics has a different combination of voices, which never repeats. Vocalists are: Holland Andrews (AU, Like A Villian), Emma Ruth Rundle (Marriages, Red Sparowes), Karla Manzur (Dana Falconberry, Alejandro Escovedo), Ben Aqua, Rich Aucoin and Zorch drummer/singer Sam Chown.
Zorch once again hit the road later this month for a set of North American tour dates, which includes a run with Fujiya & Miyagi. The duo also plays Fun Fun Fun Fest in their hometown in November. Please see complete dates below.
Zorch recently premiered a live in-studio performance video via Earmilk. The dual perspective clip for album track "Zut Alors" is available to watch/share HERE . (Direct YouTube HERE .) And, a high quality multi-camera live video from SXSW 2014 of the band's "We All Die Young" is available towatch/share HERE.

Robert Levon Been of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club pays tribute to his late father's music with an unforgettable live performance leading his father, Michael Been's, legendary band The Call in the upcoming live album The Call Live Tribute With Robert Levon Been (available September 2nd, 2014 via Label Records/Lightyear/Caroline).
While The Call (Michael Been, Tom Ferrier, Jim Goodwin and Scott Musick) got their official start in Santa Cruz, CA in 1979, its roots as a band go back to Michael Been's childhood in Oklahoma City, where seeing Elvis Presley perform on television changed the course of his life. That early interest in musical performance inspired his career, from the very beginning performing at the age of seven on local radio and television programs, to his eventual move to Chicago at the age of 16, where he was drawn into the blues scene by Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, and Junior Parker. Been eventually made his way to California, where he connected with drummer Scott Musick, as well as Tom Ferrier (guitar, vocals) and Jim Goodwin (keyboards, vocals) to form The Call.
Despite having their initial demos rejected by all the major labels, the band found themselves in demand by nearly every major producer in America. The Call's debut album was ultimately produced by Hugh Padgham (David Bowie, The Police) and the band were suddenly opening acts for major artists including Peter Gabriel and Simple Minds.
The Call were signed to Mercury, Elektra and MCA, and released seven critically acclaimed albums over the next eight years, featuring several iconic hit songs including "Let The Day Begin" and "I Still Believe (Great Design)." In 1997, after a seven year break, the band reformed to release the album Heaven & Back, before disbanding once more. Michael Been began serving as sound engineer for his son Robert Levon Been's band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, but passed away from a heart attack while working backstage at the 2010 Pukkelpop festival in Belgium.
Now after twenty years, The Call reunited at legendary Los Angeles venue The Troubador and gave an incredible live performance with Robert Levon Been stepping into his father's role and joining Musick, Ferrier and Goodwin for the one-of-a-kind event. For Robert—who grew up going out on the road with The Call anytime he had a break from school—the performance offered the chance to honor his musical legacy and perform nearly a dozen and a half songs from the band’s esteemed catalog. And for original members Musick, Ferrier and Goodwin, the show allowed them the opportunity to honor their friend and their own musical legacy while revisiting a bond they thought was gone forever.
The Call Live Tribute With Robert Levon Been will be available as a DVD+CD Deluxe Set on September 2nd 2014 and will also be available on CD, 180 gram double vinyl, and digitally (with 5 extra bonus tracks). Preview the trailer for the release now.
